Part 3 - Chapter 2
Only One Day
He lay on bed and recalled the first time he actually took proper notice of her.
He had just broken up with his girlfriend unhappily and spent the rest of the day sitting
in the cafe in a daze.
She came up to him with a cup of coffee and a bright smile, and he knew that
she had probably witnessed the awkward scene that took place earlier on and
was trying to make him feel better.
They spent a moment chatting until they had to close for the day and he felt
slightly better after that. But he never returned to the cafe again as it held too
much memories he didn’t want to remember.
He did think about her ocassionally though, ironically whenever he went through
a breakup in a few relationships after that which never lasted.
“Guys we have a new colleague Joelle. Please treat her well”
She got along well with everyone after joining their company in no time with
her cheerful and easy going nature, with Hyung Jun particularly and they
were constantly bickering away.
“Yah... why does Hyung have coffee and snacks? Where’s mine?”
“It’s not as if I didn’t ask you over the phone ... you were the one who
said you didn’t want anything. Besides, he’ll be working late today”
“You’re SO attentive to his needs Jojo. Are you secretly in love with him?”
“What the... Yah Kim Hyung Jun you better watch your words or you’ll regret it”
“What do you have to tell on me anyways...”
“If I didn’t remember wrongly someone said he didn’t want anything
because he’ll be leaving early for his hot date with”
“Hyung Jun’s going on a date?”
“YAH don’t you dare!”
Hyung Jun even tried to set the both of them up by asking him out for a movie
and deliberately backing out last minute saying that Kyu Jong would be taking
his place, but it turned out to be Joelle who appeared instead.
She was equally clueless about what was happening and judging from her
conversation with him over the phone she really would have pounced on
Hyung Jun and strangled him if she saw him the next moment.
“What?! You’re so gonna get it Kim Hyung Jun!”
“Mianhae... I guess it’s just you and me...”
“It’s fine. Kaja, the movie’s starting”
It didn’t help that the movie was a horror flick and she was pale by
the end of the movie from all the fright.
“Not exactly a very good movie for a first date isn’t it?”
“Huh? Oh... yeah... uhm... sorry for grabbing onto you...”
“It's ok, I think that was Hyung Jun's intention in the first place. So do I score for a second date?”
“Huh? Oh yeah right… you can save your time for those girls”
For the fear that history would repeat itself again, he closed his heart and
never took any girl seriously. But he knew she was someone he never
wanted to hurt, even though it was evident that she liked him.
He had all along sensed her nervousness whenever anyone teased the both
of them and she always kept her distance from him, and he somehow
enjoyed teasing her but went any further than that.
