Part 2 - Chapter 8
Only One Day
“Will you miss me when I’m gone?”
“Yah, why are you thinking about such stuff again?”
“Promise me you’ll live well”
“Yah, I’m not talking to you if you’re gonna talk like this...”
“Fine...”
He knew she was pouting even though he couldn’t see her facial
expression as she was lying on his shoulders.
They were seated on the beach by the sea, enjoying the breeze
while waiting to watch the sun set.
“Oppa, I love you. Do you love me?”
“Of course I do, silly girl...”
“I want to hear you say it to me...”
“Why do you girls like to hear it so much...”
“Because it makes me happy?”
“Just by hearing that three words?”
He could feel her nodding while lying on his shoulder, and he
lifted her head before turning around to face her.
“I love you. I love you Gabbie. More than anything else I have”
A smile spread across her face and she gave him a quick peck on his
cheek before snuggling up to him again in his arms.
“Wake up Baby, the sun is about to set”
“Uh...but I’m tired”
“It’s ok, just remain where you are and watch the sun set”
“De...it’s beautiful. Oppa, komawo...”
He smiled as he heard her whisper and gazed into the sky as the sun set, silently
wishing upon to heaven to allow them to spend more times like this together.
He noticed that she had fallen asleep again with a smile of content on her face
and gently shifted her to lie down in a more comfortable position, only to realise
that she had silently slipped away without him knowing.
“Yah... stop playing Gabbie... There’s so much more we haven’t done...
you promised to marry me once you get well.
Didn’t you want to have kids too?
We’ll work hard together and tour the world when we’ve retired...”
And all he could do was to sob as she lay lifeless in his arms, gone along with the sunset.
"You're my everything Gabbie. I love you, can you hear me?"
