Lost in thought

The Victim of Love

( ( Chanhee's POV ) )

Byunghun sure looked shocked when I responded to the Class clown's question earlier. Ha. He looked adorable with his mouth hanging open like that. I didn't really notice how good looking he was until he smiled at me. That was a smile right? Yes, I saw it with my own eyes. But it did catch me off guard. I mean, everyone said his personality was like a robot's, cold and emotionless. Except he didn't seem cold at all. So doesn't that mean -

"Channie!" a high-pitched voice broke out in the gym. I turned around and-

SLAM!

A basketball met my face. I stumbled backwards, trying not to fall. But it's kind of hard when gravity makes it impossible.

My sight went from the gym ceiling to Niel running towards me, but he immediately backed off when I fell back on something. Yeah. Leave me hanging why don't you, Niel?

"Wha-?" I managed to choke out.

Oh yeah. That's right. I was in gym, playing basketball with Niel. He was about to pass me the ball when . . . Did I space out? Wait, what am I leaning on? It feels like a short person's shoulder.

I reached back only to grab a slim boney wrist.

Oh. Changhyun? It has to be. He's shorter than me after all...

Wait, Changhyun doesn't have gym with Niel and me!

I slightly turned my head aroud to see Byunghun's face close to mine.

"GAHHHH!" I yelled as I pushed his wrist away and balanced myself up.

". . . O-oh . . . Thank you . . ." I choked out when I realized he had just helped me. He gave me a slight nod and turned away.

"You okay, Channie?" Niel asked when he ran up to me.

"Uh yeah . . . Wait! You threw that ball at me, didn't you?!" I yelled, smacking the back of his head.

"OWWW! But we were playing basketball so I threw it at you, but then you went and spaced out on me!"

"Niel, this is a basketball. WHO THE HELL THROWS IT AT SOMEONE'S FACE? YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?"

( ( Byunghun's POV ) )

I made my way back to the side benches when the coach tugs on my arm.

"Byunghun . . . You need to participate." He urged.

"I don't need to at all. I'm not unfit or anything." I protested with no interest for this conversation to continue.

"Byunghun. You have to. It's a part of your grade. Even if you don't have any friends here, you should go make some."

"..."

"I'll let you slide today, but please try to participate in the future. Okay?"

Yeah sure. When I hit age 50 and become plump like you.

I didn't answer, instead, I sat down on the bench and ignored his useless muttering.

Across the gym I could see Cherry and his friend . . . Niel? Yeah, that's his name. Man. They're both so damn loud. And they're only playing basketball. No need to scream everytime you throw the ball. It's hard just to sit here and think to myself.

And I don't even know why I helped Chanhee. I mean he was clearly spacing out. His problem. The ball was clearly going to hit his face. Once again, his problem. But why did I have to get up from the bench and sprint all the way over there just to keep him from hitting the ground? Am I crazy? I think so. I mean, I barely know the guy! Sure we exchanged a smile to each other during the last class, but I never really actually knew him. I just seen him around a bit since I attended this school. But it's not like we're on bad terms with each other, don't get me wrong, but Chanhee's nice to everyone.

"Yah! Byunghun!"

I jolted upwards at the familiar voice that was calling me from the same direction where Chanhee was. I glanced over. He was waving his arm back and forth, his dark eyes fixed on me.

"Wanna play with us?!" He called out over the noise of basketballs being slammed into the ground. Niel immediately gave him the "did you just ask him what I think you just did?" look. But he wasn't alone. Everyone in the gym paused their game to give him that look too. I don't think Chanhee noticed at all though. He was still flailing his arm like an idiot.

New nickname for him. "Airhead", due to his ability to space out when he really should be paying attention and his lack of awareness for his surroundings.

I shook my head and gave him half of a smile to assure him that I was fine by myself.

"Aw. Okay. Maybe next time then!" he blurted, just when everyone was about to get back to whatever it was they were doing. That outbreak caused them to examine Airhead one more time.

I quickly nodded to get this over with. I didn't want him getting any more attention drawn to him than he already had.

He's just too considerate of others. Maybe that was why I helped him before. And maybe because I did that, he has taken an interest in me? Probably. He didn't seem too interested in sitting next to me this morning.

But as much as I wanted to, I couldn't go over and play with him when I know that everyone will isolate him for it. I've already become the "wang-ta" of the school.

I couldn't let him become one too.
