Autophobia

Perfect Nurse

MinWoo didn't visit for nearly a week. He sent down other nurses with her food and for occasional checkups instead.

HyeSoo began to get worried, guilt eating away at her on the inside. Was he really that upset? Had he quit like she'd suggested?

Growing more and more tired of her current setting, she longed for his company  and harsh humor. The female nurses hardly even gave her the time of day.

Just when she was about to die of boredom, he came.

"Why are you here?" The harsh words slipped out of before she even realized it. She quickly clasped her hands over , as if it would somehow undo what had already been done.

"I see you're still ready to bite my head off," MinWoo leaned against the door like always, watching her with his scrutinizing eyes. It was as if his sole goal was to pick out and inform her of everything that he thought was wrong with her.

HyeSoo involuntarily squirmed under his gaze, suddenly uncomfortable under the intense attention. "You did lie to me about something pretty important after all." Once again she winced at her own words. Stupid! You should apologize for upsetting him!

She watched his face intently, expecting a frown or a furrowed brow. She saw neither. MinWoo was at the top of his game that day- he remained completely expressionless.

"I see," he crossed his arms and moved into a more comfortable position, as if to say I could do this all day. HyeSoo waited for him to continue, but he said nothing.

For a while the room was silent, the two just sat there, quietly observing and gauging each other's thoughts.

HyeSoo gripped her sheets irritably. Why were they behaving like little kids? Deciding to be the mature one of the two, she spoke up, "I'm sorry for what I said." Once again she waited for the typical response- a simple returned apology.

Instead, after a moment's silence, MinWoo's face curved into an arrogant smile, "I know you are."

HyeSoo gaped at him, not quite so how to respond. How could someone be so-

"What do you want to do?"

She blinked at him, completely caught unaware, "Huh?"

MinWoo unfolded his arms and gestured with his hands, drawing a bucket in the air, "You know, kid, like your bucket list.  Things you've always wanted to do-"

"Oh, I know," For some reason HyeSoo couldn't stand it when he explained things. He made her seem like a little kid. She considered his question for a moment, "Get a job?"

MinWoo sighed loudly and rolled his eyes, "Something fun, sunshine."

HyeSoo's anger flared and she muttered defensively, "A job would be fun!" Even so, she changed her train of thought, staring into her lap as she continued, a slight pink rosing her cheeks, "Go to an amusement park. Go to a haunted house. Have a horror movie night with my boyfriend-"

"You can stop now."

HyeSoo looked up, surprised by how close his voice had sounded. As usual, he had somehow managed to stealthily make his way over to her bed. He grabbed her wrist, checked his watch, and began counting, just as he had done one of the first times they'd met.

This time, however, he took no effort to courteously look at the wall or out the window. Instead, he chose to stare at the pillow excruciatingly close to where HyeSoo's head laid.

Even though it was just his eyes, HyeSoo couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. Why was it that everything he did bothered her so much?

Finally, he let go of her wrist and looked away, as if he had just noticed how awkward the atmosphere had become. He cleared his throat before asking jokingly, mocking her words a week ago, "So, coughed up any blood lately?"

HyeSoo couldn't help but laugh.

-------------

MinWoo heaved the crate onto the large pile with a grunt. He wiped his brow and tentatitvely checked the clock high on the warehouse wall. He was finally done with work for the day, so he'd be able to visit HyeSoo. His boss had let him off early, telling him that he was working too hard.

MinWoo couldn't help but smile, you could never work too hard for a cause you believed in.

Eager to see his girlfriend for the first time in over a week, MinWoo practically bounded to his motorcycle. On his way to the hospital, he took the time to grab a bouquet of daisies- HyeSoo's favorite flowers.

He was almost positive his heart was going to burst with excitement as he made his way down the hallway to HyeSoo's room. Was it healthy for his heart to be pounding so loudly?

MinWoo's hand was shaking nervously as he reached out to grab the door handle. At the last minute, he slid the bouquet behind his back, and then he inched the door open, peeking his head into the room.

Before he really even processed what he saw, his blood ran cold. The excited pounding suddenly came to a slow beat as he felt his stomach flip. What was wrong with him? Why couldn't he go in?

He willed himself to move forward, but his body wouldn't listen. He'd never really felt this way before. Disappointed, afraid, hurt, angry, betrayed all at once.

MinWoo slowly backed out of the doorway and slid to the ground, using the wall as support.

Was this jealousy?

The image of HyeSoo smiling and laughing, looking up at her nurse with adoring eyes flashed through MinWoo's mind. No matter how many guys had hit on her, she'd only ever looked at MinWoo that way before. What made the nurse so special?

Still confused and somewhat disheartened, MinWoo opted to buy a vase at the gift store, write a note, and leave the flowers outside her door.

Let the b!MinWoo jealousy begin!
