Chapter 10

Chapters

Paenji was waiting outside of their work building Monday morning for Phoebe. She had just gotten off of the phone with Hoseok who was in Tokyo for their first few concerts of the tour. He had gotten up extra early to make sure she was awake in time for work and to chat before they both got busy for the day. It was apparent to Phoebe that Tae had done the same with Peanji.

“Did you sleep well?” Paenji asked.

“I slept well but not enough.” The two walked together into the building with their arms interlocked.

“Oh? What kept you up?”

“Hoseok called and we talked till about two in the morning.” The elevator was empty when they entered it. The two girls were keeping their relationships with the members of BTS a secret at least for now.

“Tae did the same and woke me up this morning.” She sighed with a content smile.

“Yeah, Hoseok called this morning as well. Not gonna complain about seeing his smile first this in the morning.” The elevator door opened to their floor.

“He video called you?” Paenji had a look of jealousy.

“I am glad I forgot to take my makeup off before going to bed,” Phoebe smirked before turning her attention to Chan. He had a groggy look on his face that morning. She just figured that he had stayed up late working. Then he smiled at her.

“Why are you smiling at me?” Phoebe asked.

“What? I can’t smile?” Chan’s expression went right back to its normal stern look.

“No… just… you don’t normally smile,” Phoebe replied.

“I didn’t know you were capable of smiling,” Paenji commented as she sat her bag down at her desk. Chan rolled his eyes at her before returning to his work. Phoebe got started pretty much right away as well. They were already ahead of schedule on their current translation project and wanted it to stay that way. Phoebe was deep in her work when her phone vibrated.

Hoseok: Mic check time! Don’t forget to eat lunch!

Phoebe smiled at the picture of him on a soundstage. His wide smile on display with Suga in the background making a cat-like expression.

Phoebe: We’re going to our favorite noodle shop once we get to a stopping point.

Hoseok: Pics or it didn’t happen.

She laughed at the saying, catching the attention of both Chan and Paenji. “Oh, sorry just a funny text was sent to me.” Chan moved his attention back to his work. Paenji had a sly smile on her face.

Phoebe: When will you finally be done for the day?
Hoseok: Around 10 tonight. Miss my face already?
Phoebe: Maybe. I like talking to you! Plus once you leave Japan our schedules will be out of sync.

Hoseok: True. Well, I’ll call you then. I’m about to record for a show.

Phoebe: Have fun!

It was cold and rainy on their way to lunch so, not much was said between them while they concentrated on staying dry in the pouring rain. The street was just as busy as ever. Nothing stopped this city from working. Phoebe tried not to have such an obvious smile as she walked side-by-side with her friend. The warmth of the shop was just as comforting as the smell when they entered. The waitress smiled as she saw the two enter.

“I’ll get your usuals ready for you both!” The waitress said as they sat in their usual spot.

“So what text message made you all happy earlier?” Paenji didn’t even wait for her to take her jacket off.

“Hoseok. He reminded me to eat lunch and we planned another call for tonight.”

“Ooh, that makes sense as to why you had the biggest grin on the way here.” Paenji’s smirk grew.

“What about you and Tae? Hoseok told me he didn’t come back until two hours before they left to catch their plane.” Phoebe gave her a side-eye.

“Nothing happened. We obviously had been flirting all night and it continued back at my place. We sat and talked about everything until we fell asleep curled up on the couch.” Paenji had a small smile on her face thinking about the memory. The two chatted about work and began making plans for a shopping trip once their work project was over.

One the way home Phoebe was ecstatic. She had several hours before the call but she couldn’t hide her happiness. Phoebe wasn’t expecting this result from texting him that night over a month ago. She wasn’t expecting it to be Hoseok. It seemed like the universe was finally making up for all of the bad. After picking up dinner she walked to her flat with a skip in her step.

Ten o'clock couldn’t have come soon enough. She tried to keep her attention by writing and cleaning. When it finally came, when the call finally came she couldn’t help but be giddy. She readjusted herself on her bed before accepting the call. Phoebe couldn’t help but smile when she saw him load up on her screen.

“Are you already in bed?” He laughed.

“I am just being comfy. How was your day?” She tilted her head still with a smile on her face.

“I’m exhausted. We’ve got two more tv shows to do and a week full of rehearsals before our two concerts this weekend.”  Hoseok laid down next to his laptop with a small smile.

“Yeah, but you love every minute though.”

“I absolutely do.” Hoseok was happy to talk to her about the ups and downs of the day. He went on and told her about the TV show recording and how rough rehearsal was that day from just being tired. At one point, while she was listening, Phoebe moved to lay next to her laptop. Hoseok couldn’t believe how beautiful she was laying on her side, smiling as she listened to him. He stopped talking as he admired her.

“What is it?” She asked.

“Sorry, I was just admiring you.”

“Admiring me? I’m not sure what I’ve done that could be admired.”

“Well I was admiring your beauty but I could list your accomplishments as well.”

“Oh please.” Phoebe rolled her eyes while also trying to keep herself from blushing, “They feel so small compared to what you’ve done.”

“Small? Phoebe, I didn’t move to another country where I knew no one and where the language was not my primary language. You’re writing a book on top of translating other books. That seems pretty impressive. You also managed to ruin my shirt the first night you were in the country.” A playful smile came across his lips bringing up that memory. “Plus, if it wasn’t for fans like you early on I wouldn’t be going on a world tour with my six brothers. You did that.”

Phoebe thought for a moment. It was never put that way to her before. She had never really done anything daring until her move but it was the death of her parents and the desire to get away from her brother and remaining family that propelled her to do that. As for keeping BTS together, it was the fans that kept them together. What she didn’t expect was that her letter to him meant that much back then.

“Never thought of it that way I guess.”

“Don’t think so little of yourself. Jeez don’t you listen to our music,” he said with a bit of a playful chuckle.

“Oh, hush. You know I do.” She gave him a bashful smile. This is what he was known for. Lifting people up and making them feel confident.

“Imagine it,” He rolled on his back and waved a hand in the air, “Phoebe Williams, best selling author.” He looked back at her with glistening eyes and a wide smile.

“I don’t even know if it will get published. It may not turn out well.”

“It’s natural to doubt yourself but you gotta push past that.” Phoebe looked away, “Imagine if any of the greats didn’t take a risk or just kept doubting themselves. As long as you write from the heart I know you can do it.”

She knew he was right. “When it does get published you will be the first one to get a signed copy.”

“That’s the spirit!” His bright smile caused her to smile as well, “Just promise me if you ever feel doubt in yourself you come to me. I’ll be your hype man.”

“I will just like I’ve always done.”

Hoseok smiled. Fans like Phoebe had become a major reason why he kept doing what he did but, she had become something more.

“And when I get back you’ll have a literal shoulder to cry on,” Hoseok propped his head up with his hand. Phoebe could tell he was tired.

“I would like that very much. Thank you.” Smiled as she buried herself in the covers trying to hide the newfound happiness and comfort he had given her.

Chapter 2: Awww....only on Chapter 2 atm, but it's a really cute & fluffy beginning so far! Also, love the story cover!! It's simple & easy on the eyes.
Tbh, for this chapter, I was a bit surprised because the texting part kinda reminds me of what I'm doing for one of my stories (similar in the sense of finding love through the help of technology, I think). Though, I suppose it's common nowadays.
Hope you don't mind a bit of unsolicited suggestion, but I think it would be helpful for readers to visualize how Phoebe looks like if you can give a bit of description in the first chapter. I was having a bit of trouble trying to imagine how she looks like. Is she an Asian-American, or a blonde Caucasian, and etc.
Anyways, I look forward to your updates. Meanwhile, I'm glad to have chapters to catch up at the moment as I wait for your future updates! :)
