Their Long-lasting Sadness

Devil's Hour - 3 AM

a/n:

I waited 'til 3 AM on Halloween to post this huehuehue Merry Christler everyone.

Now where are my goddamn ghosts.

I'm ready for my to get haunted by two cuties.

“How long do you intend to sulk on, Im Nayeon?”

“I can’t help it. My honey’s been super depressed, so I’m depressed.”

“It’s been months already.”

“Your point is?” Nayeon scoffed in annoyance. “I didn’t know you’re so heartless, Park Jihyo. Our friends died.”

“They moved on. They died decades ago.” Jihyo corrected with a sigh. “Out of everyone I know, you should be the one who’s the least affected by it. You’ve helped so many ghouls move on to their next lives.”

“Yeah, but I didn’t befriend any of them.”

“And who told you to befriend those two?”

Nayeon shot her a glare before rolling over to her other side, making her back face her fellow witch.

She hated how she knew the younger female was right.

Jihyo sat herself down onto the edge of the girl’s bed, looking at her backside with sorrowful eyes.

Nayeon wasn’t the only one who had been sad over the absence of Dahyun’s ghosts.

It was pretty weird for them all to confess, since neither of the seven girls- apart from Chaeyoung- had planned on befriending the two.

Their absurd friendship formed naturally, and before they knew it they had all treasured one another’s presence, whether they were the same being or not.

To lose the two so suddenly- especially in the middle of a party that was supposed to be enjoyable and happy-

It was too much for the girls to take in.

Being the owner to the house that was once haunted, Dahyun was affected the most out of the seven girls.

To her own surprise, she missed the two incredibly.

It’s a surprise since the past Kim Dahyun wouldn’t even dare to look at a ghost, let alone interact and eventually befriend one.

But before she knew it, the bond had already formed.

They had already started enjoying one another’s company throughout their daily lives under the same roof.

Which meant that their absence hit her the hardest.

To not hear the sweet giggles.

To not get surprised by their random appearances around her house.

To not have anyone to talk to when she got home from school.

Dahyun never knew her house could feel so lonely, even though she has technically lived there alone for almost five years now.

It has been months ever since the incident, and no one seemed to have moved on.

Yoo Jeongyeon surprised herself by being depressed about the matter still, and she didn’t even believe in ghosts at first-

Thus it should be easy to imagine the pain of the only human who was actually interested in supernatural beings.

Son Chaeyoung was the runner-up when it came to the amount of pain received from the ghosts’ disappearance.

Ever since Dahyun had discovered the girls within her household, the supernatural-loving female would visit her friend whenever she had the chance.

She’d invite herself over during the weekends for random sleepovers, just so that she could hang out with the ghosts during the devil’s hour.

The youngest of the human trio absolutely loved having two ghosts in her life.

But they were now gone.

She knew that she should be happy for them.

The girls all knew.

Their souls were finally free.

No longer were they trapped within the house where they were coldly murdered in.

No longer did they feel lonely or bored.

No longer did they have any regrets.

They were free.

They moved on.

But the seven girls didn’t.

Like what the witch had said, they felt as if their friends had died-

Even though they had already went through that process 81 years ago, just like what the other witch had said.

Yet, the pain felt as if they were murdered again-

But this time it had occurred right before everyone’s eyes.

And the pain lingered.

With the humans all feeling low from the ghosts’ absence, their partners were also sharing the same sadness.

Of course they all cared about the duo just as much as the others, but as supernatural beings themselves they understood how that was simply the fate of ghosts.

They could acknowledge such a fact better than the humans, yet even the trio found themselves struggling to do so.

It was mainly because of how their partners constantly reminded them of the pain with their solemn expressions.

The last time that they were all truly happy and were capable of laughing out loud was during their second gathering.

The gathering that they weren’t expecting to be their last.

Park Jihyo was the only one who had been trying to move on from the incident.

Being the most reasonable and mature female out of them all, she knew that there was no point in sulking over the duo.

She was sincerely happy for them now that they were finally resting in peace, but being surrounded by people who weren’t really caused her to have self-conflicts within her mind.

The young witch missed how she had to scold her friend for her cheekiness.

She missed visiting Dahyun’s house to check up on the three at the same time.

She missed ganging up on the older witch with the girl’s partner.

She missed watching over the soft couple during their dates and seeing their sweet smiles.

It’s been too long.

It’s been too hard.

She’s sick and tired of all the sorrow.

Her heart was aching for her to do something about it.

Her brain was screaming to take action.

“ it.”

Park Jihyo grunted as she stood up from Nayeon’s bed and made an abrupt exit.

Nayeon was still mad from the girl’s seemingly-cold attitude to react or talk to her.

The younger witch stomped to her own bedroom before locking the door behind her.

She also casted an additional spell so that no one would be capable of entering her private workspace, even if they had used magic themselves in hopes to break in.

Park Jihyo’s power was extraordinarily strong.

And she was pretty damn confident about it too.

She has all the rights to be.

She was the most powerful person in the universe.

“I just, can’t.” she continued to talk to herself as she rummaged through the boxes and chests of books, trying her best to find a specific one.

Her large eyes lit up upon spotting what she was searching for, but her hands hesitated when they reached out for it.

Her whole body froze on the spot as she fought with herself within her mind.

She was doubting her actions last second.

She had two choices to choose from, with one of them being completely bonkers.

… Of course, she went with that one.

“Here goes nothing.” Jihyo huffed as she flipped through the tattered pages, her eyes scanning through in the speed of light.

“‘C’… ‘C’…”

She slapped her palm onto the page she needed, her lips arching into a mischievous grin.

She swiftly grabbed a pen and proceeded to scribble all over the printed texts.

“Next, ‘M’!”

Repeating her previous actions, she stopped at another page.

“Hmm… how should I note down a reasonable explanation?” she scratched her head with the pen.

Her frown eventually relaxed themselves as she simply shrugged the question away.

‘Because I said so, you’.” she read out loud as she wrote the exact words down onto the ancient paper, smiling proudly at her work before slamming the book shut.

She stored it safely back to where it came from before stretching out her limbs, her bones letting out a few crackling noises.

All loosened up and ready to go, Jihyo put on her coat and hat.

With one snap of a finger, she summoned out her flying broom.

With another snap, a shovel popped out of thin air and landed in her grip.

“Alrighty then. Time to get digging.”

After travelling in the dark and chilly night sky for a while, Jihyo’s feet landed back onto the ground.

She shuddered from the eerie atmosphere of the location, but she knew there was nothing to be afraid of.

Heck- everything else on Earth should be terrified of her instead.

It took her a while to find the correct ones, but she didn’t spare any second afterwards and went straight to it.

Honestly, she didn’t even need to go through all the hard work.

She could easily snap her fingers and the deed would be done, yet she felt extra and had wanted to experience the process and hardship herself.

She’d like to understand how it felt.

She’d like to be empathetic.

To understand herself better.

Wiping off the sweat from her forehead with the back of her palm, Jihyo threw away the shovel happily and opened them up.

“Oh gosh.” she instantly made a face from the unpleasant sight before her eyes, “Why did I design them to do this again? Geez that’s nasty.”

She patted the dirt off of her hands and glanced down at her pocket watch.

She groaned when she saw that she had to wait for a few minutes.

She was too excited to wait- especially so when she clearly broke all the rules in the book.

Well, she simply had no s to give anymore, and it’s not like she would suffer any serious consequences.

No one was truly the boss of Park Jihyo.

After resting on her levitating broomstick for a while, her body flinched subtly upon hearing a cough coming from the location she had just messed up.

Hopping off with a wide grin on her face, the young witch approached the source of the noise with her arms crossed, her stance proud and confident.

She had no idea she could feel so happy just from seeing their faces once again.

“Long time no see, children.”

“What the- Jihyo?” a confused voice called out after recognising her voice.

The tall girl quickly dusted off the soil particles from her face which irritated her greatly.

It took her quite a while before she was capable of opening her eyes.

She found her own jaw dropping down upon realising where she was.

“What the hell?”

“Welcome back, I suppose.”

“Omma!” another voice squeaked as she finally pulled herself up, shivering in fright as she observed her surroundings. “W-Where is this dark and scary place? Is this hell? Did our souls descend to hell for our sins?”

“No sweetie, you’re merely at a cemetery at night time.” Jihyo couldn’t help but to chuckle.

Despite not wanting to admit it, she really had missed these two.

She knew clearly that she shouldn’t be feeling this way- let alone take action like this, but she simply couldn’t help it.

She had unintentionally formed a huge soft spot for not only these two, but also the other six girls.

“What on Earth happened, Jihyo?” Tzuyu was the first to climb out from her literal coffin. “I thought we moved on.”

“You did- until I mingled with some stuff and dragged both of your asses back.” the witch scratched her head.

“So we’re now ghosts that aren’t bounded to a house?!” Sana gasped in delight. “Chewy, imagine all the people we can now prank!”

“… That’s the first thing that came to your mind?”

“I mean, it’s been so long since we stepped outside of our house. I’m just too excited, I guess.” Sana grinned. “Thank you for freeing us, Jihyo!”

“Wait, so how the heck are we supposed to move on now?” Tzuyu suddenly pointed out. “We don’t have any regrets anymore. Did you force us to stay here like this for eternality?!”

“Of course I ain’t that cruel, kiddo.” Jihyo chuckled from the sight of the panicking female. “You guys aren’t ghosts anymore. You’re back alive.”

The two girls stared at her blankly for a few seconds.

They couldn’t decipher her words properly.

They’ve been dead for 81 years.

The heck was this crack-head taking about?’, they thought in their minds.

“Are you still drunk from the gathering, Jihyo?” Tzuyu sneered, earning herself a scoff.

“I don’t think anyone’s capable of being drunk for 5 months straight, dear.”

“Wow, it’s been that long already?” Sana marvelled, “I felt as if that was yesterday! Did we miss anything?”

“Well, basically everyone’s been sad and grumpy b*tches thanks to the both of your disappearances, and thus I decided to bring you guys back.” Jihyo explained vaguely.

“So you used dark magic and upgraded our statuses from ghosts to zombies?” the youngest female raised her eyebrow.

“I guess you can think of it like that, but you two are definitely not zombies.”

“Wait- if we came straight out of our graves, how come we look… normal?” Sana questioned, “Didn’t our bodies decompose throughout the years?”

“Oh- now you’ve mentioned it…” Tzuyu gasped and approached her housemate.

She grasped onto the collar of the girl’s shirt and pulled it down so that it exposed her bare upper chest, resulting Jihyo to let out a whistle.

“Just because you two have finally confessed your undying love for one another doesn’t mean you can act so scandalous in front of others. At least wait until I’m not third-wheeling.” the witch teased playfully while Sana’s cheeks blushed in the dark.

Tzuyu finally realised how lewd her actions were and quickly released her grasp.

“Wha- no. I was just checking for her bullet wound.” she hissed in embarrassment. “It wasn’t there.”

“Really?!” Sana gasped. “Let me check your neck, Chewy.”

Tzuyu tilted her head upwards as Sana leaned her face closer, examining her neck carefully while squinting her eyes.

“T-There’s no bruises…”

“So we’ve returned to the state before we got attacked?” Tzuyu frowned. “How on Earth is this possible?”

“Don’t question the ways of a witch.” Jihyo simply replied. “Just accept it and move on- not like the ghost way but, you know what I mean.”

Sana turned around to look at her uncovered coffin again, still unable to understand how anything had happened.

“So… we’re zombies-but-not-really now?”

“No. You’re both humans.”

“So we got resurrected?”

“Yeah.”

“And it was your doings?”

“Yeah.”

“Witches can bring back the dead?”

This witch can.” Jihyo pointed at herself with a proud smile.

Tzuyu squinted her eyes suspiciously towards her.

“Park Jihyo, what exactly are you?”

“A witch, duh.”

“I don’t think any magical spell can perfectly restore two corpses and stitch their wandering souls back into their bodies like this.”

“I’m just that powerful, I guess.”

“I’m not buying it.” Tzuyu crossed her arms. “I just can’t believe witches can do this, otherwise there’s no need to mourn the dead anymore when you can just hire a witch to resurrect them right after their death.”

“It also makes Nayeonnie seem pretty lame.” Sana giggled loudly. “Both of you are supposed to be witches, yet you’re so much stronger!”

“Like I’ve said, I’m just a powerful witch.” Jihyo tried to shrug it off, “Stop interrogating me and let’s get going. Both of you are still covered in worm poop.”

“Ew!”

“Dirt. She meant dirt, Sana-unnie.”

“Oh.”

Jihyo sighed in exhaustion and snapped her fingers, making a car appear out of thin air.

“Hop in, we’re heading home.”

“We… don’t have one anymore.” Sana pouted sadly upon realising their situation. “Our existence have been erased and forgotten for 81 years now. We don’t even have any family members…”

Tzuyu glanced at her girlfriend with empathetic eyes, knowing exactly how she felt since they were literally in the same situation as one another.

They were indeed outcasts that had been stuck in time.

They never had the chance to explore the world as it had advanced into its modern-day structure due to being trapped within the same house for all those years.

Things were so different compared to their old days that it became overwhelming now they’ve thought about it.

The two lost girls felt a little scared.

Jihyo glanced at the two as she sat onto the hood of the car, shaking her head slowly.

“Nonsense. Of course you have a family.”

“They’re all dead, Park Jihyo.” Tzuyu shot back. “We were the youngest of our families and I’m supposed to be 99 years old. I don’t think anyone’s capable of living past 150 yet.”

“Not that family.” the witch then chucked. “I meant us.”

The ex-ghosts blinked at her for a few seconds, their brains struggling to function properly after going on a hiatus for 3 whole months.

They were still trying to take in the fact that they were somehow alive and breathing again, let alone comprehend the girl’s words.

Jihyo decided to be nice and elaborated for them.

“We’re your family now, the seven of us- well, you’re more than welcome to kick Nayeon-unnie out of it.” Jihyo cackled from her own words, “Anyways, you guys can stay with me until we get everything sorted out. I’m sure I’m more than capable of finding you guys your own place to live and help you get accustomed to the modern world.”

Without the need of another word, Sana pranced onto Jihyo and snuggled her face into her neck.

Tzuyu couldn’t help but to smile at the sight and eventually joined in, forming a small group hug in the middle of a graveyard.

The trio remained that way for a while until Jihyo broke the peaceful silence.

“Guys, your rubbing all the worm poop onto my clothes.”

“Squish her, unnie.”

“YAH- too tight! Too tight!” the witch cried out from the hug that became more of a choke-hold, making the other two girls laugh out loud.

Despite not knowing how things were going to be, they knew that they could trust the witch.

Her words magically soothed their doubtful hearts.

She made them feel at ease once again.

“Seriously though, let’s get the hell out of here. I’m starting to get creeped out.” Jihyo squirmed away from the duo and hopped into the driver’s seat.

“I thought this is like your natural habitat.” Tzuyu commented as they also entered the vehicle, sitting comfortably in the back seats.

“Well, now you know it’s not.” Jihyo huffed as she examined the interior of the car, absolutely lost. “Dang, I didn’t know it’d be this complicated.”

“You’ve never driven a car before?” Sana asked as she leaned forward, “But isn’t it the most common method of transportation nowadays?”

“You’re talking to a witch who can teleport, unnie.”

“Oh, oopsies.”

“Welp, screw this.” Jihyo sighed as she snapped her fingers, resulting the car to start floating into the air.

Tzuyu instantly clung onto the grab-handle while Sana squealed in joy, acting like she was on a rollercoaster ride.

The car then proceeded to fly towards their destination.

It was as if they were heading to Hogwarts and was going to end up crashing into a pissed-off tree.

“Then what was the point of summoning a goddamn car?!” Tzuyu shrieked in terror as they soared through the sky within the vehicle.

“I just wanted to ride one.” Jihyo grinned as she enjoyed herself.

“Aren’t humans such amazing inventors?” Sana then commented happily, but she couldn’t see Jihyo rolling her large eyes from the back seat.

“Pfft- ‘amazing inventors’.” Jihyo muttered under her breath, quiet enough so that the girls’ weren’t capable of hearing. “As if anything would exist without me…”

And after she pressed a bunch of random buttons out of boredom and accidentally turned on the radio, the girls’ were forced to listen to ‘God is a Woman’ by Ariana Grande in full blast as none of them knew how to turn it back off.
