Of Betrayals and Bitterness
On Different WorldsWhen Nayeon first entered, she was confused. She expected something else other than a vast and infinite landscape of pure white. It was empty, lonely, and impossibly cold. The demon dragged her feet against the desolate ground of Jeongyeon’s mind, wondering where she could find the interesting human.
To her surprise, it wasn’t that hard to find the writer in such an empty mindscape. She found her hunched over a few Legos on the floor – and Nayeon swears that this girl should stop hunching, for it would ruin her posture. Nayeon approached the girl meekly, trying her best not to startle her too much.
Jeongyeon immediately looked up with a smile, and although Nayeon didn’t want to startle the human, the demon ended up being the astonished one.
She’s… smiling?
Jeongyeon excitedly patted the spot beside her. “Hurry, hurry – I want you to check this out!” She ushered Nayeon. Even if she was very confused, Nayeon walked quickly and sat next to the girl.
Soon enough, she was met with an incomplete Lego version of the Colosseum in Rome. Nayeon gasped softly, her fingers reaching out to touch the corners of the replica. She always wanted to visit Rome, but she never really had the time. A demon isn’t exactly supposed to roam around freely.
“Do you like it?” Jeongyeon’s voice came out as a gentle whisper, her eyes sparkling when she continued to do her work. Nayeon looks at her and smiles; she nodded and hummed as she watched the careful way Jeongyeon had picked up the pieces and built. “I build stuff like these whenever I’m stressed… It kind of helps me.” Jeongyeon laughs a bit, hair falling and obscuring the features of her face.
Instinctively, Nayeon reached out to brush the stray strands behind Jeongyeon’s ear. She gives Jeongyeon a smile before she put her hand down in an instant, willing herself to snap out of it.
“I’m absolutely positive that this is a dream.” Jeongyeon startled the demon when she stated these words firmly. “And this isn’t the first time I saw you in a dream.”
“What do you mean?” Nayeon asked, genuinely curious. She looked up towards Jeongyeon, taking note of the fact that the other girl was taller than her.
