As I make my way through the hospital, I couldn’t help but be bothered by what I had just heard from Eunha. Her answer was just so unexpected that the moment she said those words, I felt myself suffocating and I couldn’t utter any words even if I wanted to say something

Tears kept coming down from my eyes and I knew how bloodshot the color of it have turned

Now that I know who’s the pair, I agree on what Eunha have said about how hard the mission to be accomplished. Yerin has been in love and is a couple with Choi Yuna and I saw how endearing their stare towards each other was and how it was visible that they truly are in love with each other

While Sinb, her said to be destined pair, is the one whom I have greatly fallen in love and being the one to pair her with another mortal would cause great pain and how cruel it is to be the cupid to match the person you love the most with another mortal

 I arrived at hospital room and surprisingly, I saw Sinb sitting up and laughing at Yerin who was playing jokes with her. Seeing them like that makes my heart ache and I wanted to break them apart. I wanted to push Yerin away from her.

“Sojung!” I heard Sinb’s soft and lively voice calling out my name, pulling me out of my thoughts of them

I smiled at her and Yerin said something to her before leaving the room with just only me and the younger girl

After we watched Yerin leave the room, I walked towards Sinb and intertwined our hands together.

“Are you feeling fine now? Or is there anything that still hurts?” I asked as I lift up our intertwined hands and kissed the back of her hand

“Thankfully yes...”—she paused for a second and sighed—“I’m sorry, Sojung”

“What?” I was confused on why she was apologizing. If someone should be apologizing, it should be me. I was the one who didn’t notice anything wrong when I should be the first one to notice if something was wrong

“I’m sorry for not telling you and for worrying you” Her voice was low and it was inevitable that she was trying her best not to cry. She had always been this kind of person who tend to mask and hide away her sadness to other people, not wanting them to be worried.

I placed my free hand on her cheeks and softly caressed it “There’s nothing to apologize to. I was the one who was blind enough to not able to notice that you were already feeling unwell”

She half-smiled but then liquids started flowing down from her eyes that it made me panic and at the same time I felt my heart hurting because of what I am witnessing. The strong and hyper Eunbi I knew had finally shown her fragile side and it was heart breaking seeing her cry 

“I-I actually had a dream while I was in a comma”—I heard soft sobs coming from her and droplets were landing on the mattress of the bed—“I saw you smile at me before turning your back and slowly was vanishing afterwards. And even how much I ran and how much I extend my arms to reach you, I only could touch dusts”

Her soft sobs turned into loud ones. I stood up from the chair and hugged her tightly as I caress her back.

“That won’t happen, Sinb” I said to calm her down but the truth just seems to say otherwise, the day after tomorrow, everything will change.

Every moment I spent with her and how much I love her will all vanish in her memories and will only serve as a mere dream that can easily forgotten. While me? I still have no clear judgement on what I will do to save her

Despite already knowing who’re the pair inside, the decision I thought would be so easy to make once I knew the destined pair have turned out to be one of the hardest choice that I would make. 

My greediness for her started conquering me as soon as I heard that she’s destined with her bestfriend, Yerin. And the thoughts of Sinb and Yerin loving and being happy with each other without the younger girl remembering any of my memories kept swarming inside my head like a virus

Just thinking of being the one standing from afar and pointing your arrow to matchmake the person you love the most with another one is just too cruel and painful.

“Promise me that you won’t leave me” Her voice was cracking as she sob and her grip on my arms were getting tighter as she cry.

I know that promising her that I won’t leave her would be the biggest lie I will make because even if how much a beg the council to make me stay with her, nothing would happen... their decision had always been final and nothing could change their mind.

My promise could only last until tomorrow and after that, I would disappear in her life and in the life of the mortals I’ve met in this world.

“I promise” I said as I close my eyes and trued not to sound that guild is eating me up as I say those two short words

I was guilty for deceiving and promising her such an impossible thing. But I can promise her that my love for her will stay the same even if millions...billions of years have passed—forever, my love and feelings for her will stay

After the mortal had fallen asleep, I went to the dorm to take a look at it for the last time. I wanted to remember how the place I called home looks like and what the memories we had made in this small room that had become my favorite place of all

As I take my steps inside the room, every memories that I’ve spent here kept coming back. How I met her, how we joked and cuddled with each other... the stories of her life that she had told. I see her everywhere the room and I smell her fragrance all over the room.

“Taking a look for the last time, sister?” I heard Umji’s soft voice coming from the back.

I saw my sister slowly walking around the room as she observe the things placed and she stopped as she reached the shelf wherein a photo of me and Sinb is placed.

She soon picked the frame up and smiled “She’s beautiful”—she turned her head to me—“But too bad you can’t stay with her as you please”

I could sense pity and bitterness behind every word of her. I didn’t answer her because I knew that she wasn’t waiting for one and her words were a statement that didn’t need any answer from the recipient

She placed the frame back to where it should be and walked towards the sofa to sit at the arm of it. She remained quiet and watched me but I could tell that she came here for something. An answer? A favor?

“I wonder why my sister have come here. I’m pretty sure you’re pretty busy with work as a cupid”

Her lips curled up upon hearing me but soon disappeared. Her expression turned into a worried one and also sadness was visible if you look straight into her eyes

Unlike Eunha who can hardly be read, Umji’s emotion could be easily identified through her eyes if you have known her long enough

“What’s with your sad eyes? Something’s bothering you?” I asked, pretending not to know what’s the reason behind that expression of hers

She started fidgeting her fingers as she turned her head to look at it. A faint smile went across her face for a moment and she took a deep breath before opening

“What are you gonna do now that you know what’s inside the file?”

Her question didn’t surprise me that much. I knew that she’s gonna ask me that from the start when I saw her sad expression. I didn’t give an answer immediately, unsure on how I would answer it

“I don’t know”—I said as I heavily breathed—“I still haven’t made up my mind. Thinking about firing the love arrow to the mortal you love and another mortal is just too painful to imagine”

She slowly shook her head before looking back at me “You know that you always have two other options to choose from”

“I know”—I timidly said and smiled—“But if those two are the only options left, I would always choose to sacrifice myself than seeing the mortal because of my greediness to live”

“I didn’t know you can be a martyr when it comes to that thing called love” She teasingly said making me chuckle

“Well I guess what mortals says about being able to do the things you never thought you would do for the sake of love is a fact. Because you, yourself, is now witnessing it from me” 

She stood up from the sofa and smiled at me “I can’t believe that you’ve become so madly in love with a mortal”

She walked towards me with an envelope on her hand. She kept slapping her palm using the envelope and gave it to me “But just so you know, even if you sacrifice yourself you can’t rewrite their destiny towards each other. And I would just be replacing you as their cupid”

She genuinely smiled before disappearing from the room. And I heard her voice in my head saying “I hope you won’t do or choose something that you’ll be regretting at the end”

“Don’t worry. I would never regret whatever my decision my will be” 

I opened the envelope and saw the three choices along with the countdown of the remaining time I have left to make up my mind

1. If you want to continue living you can either:

• match up the destined pair inside the locked file even if it’ll cause you great pain or ; 
• if you know that it’s already too late to accomplish the task, you can go home to the mythical world and let the human who fell for you die

2. If you want to let the mortal live you can either: 

• do the first choice at #1 or ; 
• sacrifice yourself by chanting the spell written at the back of this paper as you give her the last kiss you could ever do to be able to lift up the curse. But remember, you would completely vanish and turn into dust if you choose this scenario

I flipped the paper and saw a long spell written on it. I stared at it for a while before clenching my fist and gritted my teeth.

My mind was battling with my heart and that was making it a lot harder for me to decide on what to do. I couldn’t choose if I should match them up but knowing how short the left time is, it would be difficult to achieve. Or if I would sacrifice myself to have an assurance that she would live, unlike the mission that has no assurance that I could accomplish it within a day because my feelings may hinder me from thinking straight

I felt my phone vibrate inside my pocket. I fished it out and saw a message from Sinb saying:

 “Sojung, the doctors had said that I could leave the hospital tomorrow. I hope you could prepare a feast for me because the hospital foods here tastes like flour”

I felt relieved that she can go home tomorrow and thankful that I could spend my last day with her out of the hospital. But I felt my heart breaking into pieces knowing that this might be a message from the council telling me to make my final decision and that time is running out for the both of us

I stared at my phone as my eyes blurs out due to the liquids hindering my sight. I hysterically blinked my eyes before typing:

“Where do you want to go tomorrow? And what do you want to do?”—after sending that, I sent another one saying—“Just a little party for getting out of the hospital :)”
