I’m at the balcony of the hotel with Eunha sitting on the bench. I have been telling her my encounter with Sunmi, the head of the reapers, and even Eunha couldn’t believe what just happened at the pool

It was just so unexpected. She came to me in the wrong time... her arrival was so bizarre and what’s more weird is the photo she handed to me

“You’re kidding” Eunha said looking as shocked and confused as I was when I saw that photo which she is now holding 

I shrugged my shoulder and stared at the black and white photo. It was of photo of a couple, with the exact same face as I am and Sinb

“And Sunmi, said that this girl who looks the exactly like you is the grim reaper who had sacrificed her life for the human she loved? And that human is basically now reincarnated as Sinb. The one that you love” I hummed and nodded as I turn around to look at the sky

“Exactly. But who would’ve though that I am the reincarnation of the reaper and what’s worse... we had loved the same human being”

Being the reincarnation of the reaper and loving the same human... I guess this is the symbol that Sinb and I are really not for each other...

“I guess we’re really not meant for each other” I said as I feel myself getting slowly suffocated at each word that goes out of my mouth

“Or maybe it’s the destiny which made you two meet again” Eunha said catching my attention

The destiny of us hurting and someone making a sacrifice huh? Just like déjà vu happening for the both of us

“And maybe... it’s a big warning for you to stay away from her” Eunha added

“You know, I’ve been dreaming about the reaper and the mortal for quite a while now”—I laughed—“And I had no idea that it was the reaper and not me”

The feeling of pain had struck me the moment I laid my eyes on the photo. I felt that soon, something bad is bound to happen. Just like what happened with them

And I could not think if a way to make things right and a way to make my ending with Sinb a happy one. Not a tragic one.

But if I had known the fact that I was the reaper and Sinb was the mortal that she had loved... would it change the fact that I would still choose to love her even if it costs my life?

“So now what?”—Eunha paused for a while before looking at the sky with me—“Now that you’ve known that the both of you are the reincarnated versions of the reaper and the mortal. What would you do?”

“Of course I would still love her. Nothing can change the fact that I love her and even I would act like nothing’s gonna happen for us”—I turned my head and weakly smiled at Eunha—“I would make her feel that she is the luckiest girl alive even if it’s just for a brief moment”

I would treat her like it’ll be my last day with her everyday and I would make her think of me as one of her favorite memory. Even if it’s painful, I would sacrifice myself.

Without any second thoughts our doubts, I will choose to sacrifice myself even if I had to die for her sake

“Sojung, let’s go swimming at the pool” Sinb said as she drag me towards the pool area

As soon as I enter, The memory of Sunmi and I talking had once again flashed into my memory, and the pain and shock had visited me again

I stopped my tracks and held back Sinb from further running off the pool. She looked at me with curiosity

I pulled her closer and held both of her hands and pouted at her “But I don’t want to swim”

She slightly hit my arm and laughed at how ridiculously funny I am and said “Stop acting like a kid, babe”

Hearing her call me using a nickname sent butterflies in my stomach, it made me smile so much that it could reach my ears and I placed my right hand on her back and pulled her closer that our bodies were touching

“W-w-what are you doing again?” I chuckled at how adorable she sounded like and how cute her reddening face had looked like

It never fails to satisfy and amaze me whenever she’s flustered or embarrassed by something

“You’re so adorable, Bi” I said as I cup her face to kiss her forehead

“You’re acting weird”

“I am always weird. Surprised that you just noticed” I making her snort and break away from my arms

She ran towards the pool and jumped on it. She joined her friends, played with them  such as beach volleyball which Sinb always had complained whenever the opposing team scores. Competitive Sinb as always.

I suddenly remembered when she took me at the arcade place and complained that I cheated when I won fair and square on the racing game

“You’re smiling like crazy” Said by the familiar voice. I took a glimpse at the owner of the voice and it was none other than Eunha

“She always makes me smile”—I shook my hand when Sinb was inviting me to join them—“Whatever she do”

“Can’t believe the once matchmaker is now deeply in love with a mortal”

“Such irony, right? I should be matchmaking yet here I am pairing up myself to a human” I jokingly said making the both of us laugh

“You got that right”—Eunha paused and stared at me—“But speaking of. What would you do with that locked file you were supposed to open? Leave it hanging?”

Oh right... I completely forgot about that for I was too occupied by Sinb and that reaper matter. But rather than thinking of continuing that task, I prefer not to and just spend my days with Sinb

I mean, what’s the use of completing that when I know that I have to leave anyway?

“Yeah. I think of just leaving that and wait for Kyung to give it to my sister or another cupid”

“Makes sense”—she turned her head—“Let’s go there where Yerin’s grilling barbecues. I’m hungry”

I nodded and walked towards the grilling section and took one barbecue stick. But as soon as I took a bite and even before I could savor the flavor or it, I felt my heart drop as I hear scream at the pool side

They were screaming Sinb’s name out loud and unknowingly, I was already at where the students were crowding up.

I squeezed through the crowd of students and saw Sinb lying on the ground. Unconscious.

And there was something shining on her neck, I kneeled down to take a look closer and saw a broken wing tattooed on her nape

“A-are y-you seeing this?” I said nervously as Eunha knelt beside me to also take a look at Sinb

Her expression had a mix of fear, anxiousness, shock, and disbelief. Sweats were falling off my forehead, my hands shaking as I look at the tattoo embedded on Sinb

“It... it has begun” was all Eunha had said and I knew exactly what she had meant.

The crisis had already started and I now know why I had been dreaming and why Sunmi had appeared

She wasn’t gonna take Sinb’s life that night. But she knew. She knew that she will be soon taking it
