Ch 8 Pray

Every King Needs A Queen

I was woken up by my phone ringing.

“Hello?” I answered, my voice still heavily coated in sleep. I glanced at the clock on the wall. It read 9:18.

“Jenny! I looked into TS like you asked me to. I already sent you the report, but I decided to track their movements just in case. And it looks like they’re

heading towards you right now!”, the urgency in her voice woke me up immediately.

“How far away are they?”, I asked as I got out of bed to put on clothes more suited for fighting.

“My calculations predict they will arrive at exactly 9:50.”

“Alright that’s plenty of time.” I started to make a list of things I needed to do before they got here.

“ I need to brush my teeth, do something with my hair, lock Mochii in the bathroom-”

“Jenny, you’re making a list again. Are you going to be ok?” Sunny wasn’t my best friend for nothing. She knew how to tell when I was nervous.

“I honestly don’t know.”

“They’re coming with hostile intent. You might have to kill them.”, she warned.

“There’s no doubt about that. I’ll do what I need to do, Sunny. Oh if you tracked TS, can you locate Zelo, too?”

“Already done. He’s a bit far away from you. So even if he headed back right now, he wouldn’t get there until after they come. Why? Do you need the

backup?”

“I just don’t want him to get caught in the crossfire like if he comes back in the middle of the fight. I’ll have them taken care of before he comes back.

Do you have an estimate of how many of them are coming?”
“It looks like only five are entering the house. But eight will be outside on standby.”

“Why are they sending so many people for me? There’s no way they know that I can fight.”

“From the calls I managed to listen in on, they think their boss is being overly cautious. He seems to suspect that you have had at least self-defense

training. The ones on standby are there only in case if Zelo comes back early.”

“Their boss is a smart man. Hey I’ll call you back later I have to finish getting ready.”

I finished everything on my list with 10 minutes to spare. I grabbed my fans and strapped the sword I kept hidden near the bed to my waist. All I had left

to do was wait. I prayed I could do this.

In a dark room illuminated only by the artificial light of computer screens, Sunny pressed send.

“This should get to him in time for him to warn Zelo. If my calculations are correct, then he should get there just in time.” Sunny prayed she was right

for the sake of her friend’s well being.

Zelo had managed to finish the job early this time. He was on his way to the car, when Youngjae called him.

“Hello? Hyung I just finished up here. Is something wrong?”

“Listen, Zelo. Jenny is in danger.”

“What do you mean?”, he asked sharply.

“I just got an anonymous hint that TS is on the move to your house right now.”

“How did they find it?”, he asked as he hurried to his car. Fear grasped his heart. No no no. This couldn’t happen again.

“I’m looking into it now but they’re closing in fast. I would send one of the others, but they wouldn’t be able to make it in time. You are the closest right

now. I also sent the fastest route back to your GPS.”

“Ok, thanks for letting me know. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Good luck.”, Youngjae said before he hung up. As Zelo sped home he cursed TS and prayed he would make it in time.

True to Sunny’s calculations, at 9:50 sharp I heard windows breaking. Ugh one of the cons of not having neighbors: people are more likely to break in

during the day. I need to tell Zelo to invest in some reinforced glass when he replaces the windows. I heard deep voices coming from downstairs.

“Find the girl!”

“Check upstairs. We’ll check downstairs.” I tightened my grip on the fans.

The first guy was already halfway up the stairs. I quickly knocked him out before he could yell. Then I slashed his throat. From previous experience, I

knew leaving him alive would bite me in the later. Two other guys were on their way to the stairs. They had their guns out ready to shoot, but I was

faster. I cut off their hands before they could pull the trigger.

“Backup! We need-” I cut him off but it was too late. . The eight guys on standby rushed in to join the remaining two men in the house. I didn’t have

time to think. The familiar dance of battle was all too familiar. It was almost second nature to me even now. Cut, slash, dodge. Those were the only

words I knew.

I stopped when I realized there was nothing there for me to cut or slash anymore. I heard the door open. I raised my fans defensively, ready. It was Zelo.

As soon as he saw me relief washed over his face but soon it was replaced by surprise as he took in the aftermath of my handiwork.

“Did you do this?”,he asked. As soon as he asked me that, I don’t know what happened, but the strength left my legs and I collapsed on to the floor. Zelo

rushed to my side and wrapped his arms around me. I started to cry.

“There, there. It’ll be ok, Princess. I’m here for you.”, he said as he my hair. We stayed like that until I eventually ran out of tears. I pulled away

from Zelo, embarrassed.

“I’m so sorry. I just cried all over your shirt.” Zelo wiped my tear stained cheeks.

“No no it’s fine. Now how about you go take a warm shower and I’ll take care of the bodies? When you’re done we can have a proper talk, alright?”, he

said gently. I simply nodded, partly because a shower sounded really nice and partly because it had been a long time since I saw him look at me like

that.
