Chapter 9

Aiming Higher

We got out of the warm car then began the short walk to my house. It was literally just 10 steps. I should've called before coming because I had no idea if anyone was home even though it was a Sunday.

The door was left unlocked so I just entered since it is my parent's house. Everything was exactly the same not that I expected anything to change while I was gone.

"Mom! Dad! Are you home?"

"Jimin? Is that you?" My mom said.

Her face peered out the corner. She had gloves and a apron on which meant she was probably cooking right now. I really missed my moms cooking. Now and days I usually eat nothing home made because I'm not the best cook. I was embraced with a hug. I usually would care about her gloves making a mess on my outfit, but I'll let it go this time.

"I missed you."

"I missed you too. Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

"I forgot."

"Aigoo. I don't know how you can still live alone. Oh? Jimin, whose your friend?"

"Mom, do you not remember him?"

My mom couldn't start forgetting things now. She's still really young and energetic despite having 2 daughters that are grown teens.

"It can't be. Sehun? As in our neighbors son?"

I nod my head in response. She remembered him so I'm guessing Sehun just changed too much. I could barely even recognize him when I first saw him.

"Annyeonghaseyo eomoni," he bowed.

"Oh-, Sehun your mother has been wanting to see you."

"I was planning on visiting her after I said hello to you."

"Why don't I call your parents over? I'm making late lunch right now so why don't we all come to eat?"

"That sounds great. I'm hungry. Is your other daughter home?" I asked.

"She is out with some friends right now, but she'll be home soon. Do you want to help me cook? On second thought, why don't you just get settled in. I don't want to burn down the house."

"It's not my fault no one taught me how to cook. Call us when the food is done."

We both walked into my room which was left untouched. No one used it. It still had all my stuff in it at the exact same place I left them. I'm surprised they didn't want to use the extra room.

"It looks the same."

"Yeah, I didn't feel the need to redecorate everything. It's not like it looks bad either."

My room looked very feminine. My curtains and bed sheets were both pink plus I had two huge dressers. There wasn't much clothes left in there because I brought them all with me.

"When was the last time you came home? You make it seem like it's been a century the way you're looking back at everything," he asks.

"Just maybe a month or several. I can't remember."

"It must've been a long time then."

There was a stuffed animal sitting on top of my desk. It brought back memories to when I first came here. The stuffed animal was from Thailand.

"Do you know what happened to that bully? What was his name again? The one that took my stuffed animal."

"Oh, Seungyeon? He became an underground artist or something like that. We still keep in touch. He invited me to one of his gigs recently and his music wasn't bad. When he has another one I'll bring you."

"Did he go to a music based school?"

"No, but it's not like he wouldn't have made it if he tried."

"Oh. Wow, everyone is turning out really well."

"Better than we expected."

"How about we visit our school after eating?"

And we went with that plan. Sehun's parents came over to eat with us then we left to visit our old school we attended. As expected, nothing was different. The playground where I got a hurt on a bunch of times was still there and so was the tree we hung out under.

"Wah, it's been awhile," I say in awe as I sit on the swing set. I could picture us as kids running around this place.

"It's been too long."

"I wish the weather would be just a little warmer. Then everything right now would be perfect."

"It already is...," he mumbles taking a seat in the swing beside me.

I play with my fingertips as I observe our surroundings. It was a trip down memory lane. The amount of times I was pushed to the ground because I wasn't the best at speaking Korean were all counted as good memories now. In the end, I made good friends from that bad experience.

"We were filled with youth back then. Now all we care about are grades, colleges, and our future. How sad," I truthfully say.

"There isn't much I can do with my dancing. It's hard to make stable money out of it unless I become an idol."

"Even then it's hard to get into a company that has the ability to make you famous. Growing up . I wish we could be young forever."

"Should we audition to be idols?"

I couldn't help but scoff at his question even if he was dead serious about it. Korea has an ideal type about how girls should look and I just don't fit that. I'm beautiful in my own way and I'm not going to change just because of someone else's criteria.

"I'm not joking. Let's do it."

"Maybe in another life time. I don't want to let go of my freedom just yet."

He chuckled at my response. I didn't mean for it to be funny. I give him a questioning look.

"You're cute when you say things like that. Especially when you have that look in your eyes like you're trying to live in the moment and slow down time."

I look away in embarrassment from being called cute. I could feel my face flush, but I try to hide it with my hair.

"It wasn't supposed to be cute."

"I know, I know. Let's go walk around."

We both stand up from the swing set while dusting off our clothes. I couldn't help but think that this would be my ideal date if I were to go on one. If I had a boyfriend first of all. An image of Jimin kept popping up in my head, but try to shake the thought of him out of my head.

"You okay?" He asks. I snap back to reality.

"Oh? Yeah. I'm fine."

"Now, let's spend the day to its fullest so we have no regrets. Want to go to that claw machine we always went to as a kid?"

"Oh my god. I totally forgot about that. The last time we used it was the day you left and you and Seoungyeon won me that stuffed animal after 50 tries."

"That was his fault. Blame him."

I laugh at the memory of both of them trying desperately to win me a toy so I had something to remember them by. They were both graduating and moving onto high school while I was stuck in middle school. Sehun announced he was moving to Seoul to attend an art school and Seoungyeon left home too which left me with alone with not many friends.

"Do you still have that stuffed animal?" He asks.

"Yeah, I do. It's in my room back in Seoul."

"Why didn't you bring the one from Thailand with you?"

"Memories should stay where they originated from, shouldn't they? Imagine the school following us to Seoul. Seems weird."

"You have a weird way of thinking," he chuckles.

His hands go out of his pocket to reveal 2 lollipops. One of them was pink and the other was green. I take the green one out of hand.

"No, I want the green one," he switches the candy.

"You're not a man unless you have something pink in your life," I switch back.

We had made it to the tiny arcade filled with video games and cranes. It was empty due to it being a Sunday school night. It's usually packed with kids wasting money like they're gambling.

"Get that one. You're not going to get it. Move it to the right a little bit."

"Trust me," he says. "If I move it to the right it'll make it worse. Just leave it as it is."

The crane goes down gripping the bear then with no strength goes back up to reveal nothing was caught. I give him an I told you face while he just innocently smiles at me.

"Move. I'll do it," I push him to the side.

I put in a coin then the creepy jingle begins to play. With the music there was always more pressure because it would speed up when it was about to end. I move the crane right on top of the stuffed animal that I wanted. Not wanting the music itself to speed up, I press the button on my own.

"Please make, please make."

"Please fail, please fail."

I glare at him from the side then look back at the crane. It went down to grip the bear, successfully grips it's claws around it, then goes back up empty handed. I sigh in defeat with a disappointed look on my face.

"It's okay. Now move," he urges. His big figure pushes me to the side and I scoff. This time I chant for him to fail as well.

"You're such a pessimist," he glares.

"Yeah right. You're such a hypocrite."

"If I get it this time you have to do something for me. Deal?"

"Fine deal."

I had really low expectations for him and his crane skills. When the crane went back up to reveal it holding a stuff animal I stared at him in awe.

"Wah, you didn't fail."

"A deal is a deal. Now you have to do something for me."

"Mhm, what do you want me to do?"

"Kiss me."

Honestly out of all the guys related to Jimin, Jungkook and Jae seem to really be the ones genuinely caring for her. Jae more of a brother-bestfriend. Jungkook I am not sure. He is pretty unpredictable. Baekhyun and Kyungsoo seem to treat Jimin like a little sister too which is nice. The way Baekhyun was concerned about her being the rebound girl and all.
