Triggered
Smudges
Your return to the office made it on the news and naturally, you received lots of media attention from then on, particularly on your work performance. People either hoped for your recovery or betted on your downfall and all of them gave you pressure. As much as you tried to focus on your work, your mind wasn’t ready and your heart simply wasn’t into it yet. You were single-handedly running your parents’ legacy and sitting right at the heart of all their hard work reminded you of them. Everywhere you went, you would almost see your father walking down the hallways, rushing to his next meeting or your mother going round the desks checking on the welfare of their staff. It was such an excruciating process but you held it all in. Your staffs were patient but your potential investors were not. Fail to keep up with them and the deal is off.
You were now sitting at the chair you’ve seen your father sit at so many times before and you ran your thumb over the armrest of the chair, remembering how he refused to throw the chair away despite its chipped appearance due to sentimental value. Beside you, your investor droned on but you weren’t listening.
“Ms Kim, were you even listening?”
You were snapped awake, now turning your full attention to your investor.
“Forget it, you are clearly uninterested in the deal. Ms Kim, if you aren’t ready yet, please don’t bother coming back to the office. You’re wasting my time, as with many others.”
Before you could give him your apology, he stormed out of the door and the room quickly cleared, leaving just you and Taeyong. Taeyong would have punched the man in the face for being so insensitive if not for your stern voice holding him back.
“Don’t Taeyong, let him go. He’s right, I’m not ready.”
As much as he’d like to teach that man a lesson, Taeyong knew doing so would only give you more trouble and that’s the last thing he’d do to you.
“Lydia, do you want a rest?”
For once, you conceded defeat.
“Yes I need one…” You left the rest unsaid and Taeyong simply nodded, dialling for a driver to send you home.
