Foreword
I sat, by myself, on the bench near the playground at the park. I watched as kids my age played together; laughed together. I was a rather shy kid, so I never knew how to deal with others. I have friends, yes, but we hardly see eachother out of school. My eyes roamed around the park, taking in everything I saw. A few yards away, I saw a boy. He had black hair and was clad in a blue shirt and black hat on his head. I must've stared for a while because, for a split second, our eyes met. He smiled, and all I did was look away and try to hide the embarrassment I was currently enduring, "Hey," a voice called out to me.
I lifted my head to see the boy in front of me, leaning down to my eye level, "um, hello..." I answered, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Aw, you're so cute and shy." I looked away again, my face probably red. Where did this boy learn all this from? He looked like he was only eight years old.
"T-thank you," I managed to make eye contact with the stranger again, "did... did you need anything?"
"I just wanted to ask if you wanted to be friends," he smiled again. His smile. It could light up an entire room, it was so beautiful. He held out his hand to me. I stared at it for a moment, he chuckled after a few seconds, "Don't worry. I don't bite." He winked and I found myself reaching for his hand. I held it and he picked me up to my feet, "ok, let's start over. Hi, my name is Ten. What's your name?"
I smiled for the first time after entering that park. I was happy, "hello Ten, my name is Lisa," I said, our hands still stuck together.
