Heartfelt Confession

Somehow, Somewhere There Is Love

“Red Velvet!”

“Chocolate!”

“Red Velvet tastes so much better.”

“No it doesn’t, chocolate is better.”

“Taeyeon unnie will like red velvet more.”

“She’s my sister, so I’m pretty sure I know what she likes and I’m pretty sure she likes chocolate.”

“Fine,” she groaned and as much as Joy wanted to pick the red velvet cake, he was right. After pointing at the cake of choice and paying for it, she turned to find V nowhere in sight. Walking out of the bakery with cake in hand, her eyes searched for him.

Where did that idiot wander off too? She wouldn’t put it pass him to leave her. If only she had gotten Taeyeon’s contact the other day she wouldn’t need him, but because she had no way of contacting Taeyeon, she was really relying on V to help her deliver the cake. Speaking of cake, she glanced down at the box in her hand and frown, she should’ve just bought the red velvet cake.

“Yah, don’t eat the cake.” Joy looked up to find V standing in front of her with a bouquet of flowers.

“These aren’t for you either,” V stated when he saw her looking at the flowers which in turn earned him an eye roll.

“Not like I was expecting them to be and I wasn’t going to eat the cake for your information. Where the hell did you go?”

“Couldn’t show up empty handed now could I?”

No, she supposed not and she had to give him a point for being sensible. “So which way to Taeyeon unnie?”

“Unnie!” She shouted excitedly as she ran up to hug the older woman who was quite surprised to see the girl standing in front of her when she opened the door, but returned the hugged nevertheless.

“Omo what brings you here Jungeng-ssi? And with Taehyung?” It was surely a sight to see them together when he had made it clear he couldn’t stand her presence.

“Drop the formalities unnie, just call me Jungeng and I brought you a cake.” Taeyeon ushered the two inside her little apartment and accepted the box in Jungeng’s hand. “A cake?”

“For starting your new job today.”

“Yeah, and I got you some flowers.” A bouquet of flowers was quickly placed on top of the box, “thank you, but you guys really didn’t have too.” It was an extremely nice gesture from the two and she wasn’t quite sure how to respond to them. Grabbing a vase from the shelf she filled it up with water and place the flowers in. They were beautiful.

It wasn’t until after she returned from the kitchen with the cake sliced did she noticed the state Jungeng was in. “Jungeng, what happened to you?” Joy smiled embarrassedly, she didn’t want to tell her that she had gotten into a fight.

“A fight, unnie.” Joy heard Taehyung blabbed.

“Yah you weren’t supposed to tell her!” She smacked him on his arm. That was not how she wanted Taeyeon to see her. “See unnie, this is exactly why I shouldn’t be around her. She’s a bad influence.” Another smack was heard followed by a whining V who ran to her side, “noona save me.”

Taeyeon could only laugh at the two, “Alright, alright, that’s enough you two. How about helping me bring the plates and forks out Taehyung?”

“So Jungeng, Taehyung tells me you don’t go to the same university as him. What university do you go to then?” The cake had been allotted and the three of them were currently sitting in her living room with Jungeng in between the two siblings.

Joy almost chocked on her cake, what was she supposed to say. Would it be too risky to tell them? V wouldn’t possibly go and try to find out more about her right? She wasn’t important enough, but still she felt uneasy about telling the truth. Her mind searched for the surrounding schools, one where she could pretend she was going to.

“Omo, Taehyung oppa talks about me?” She asked sending a teasing smile towards V, perhaps she’ll try changing the subject. “I thought oppa didn’t like me?”

“I don’t like you,” V stated casually, his mouth still full.

“What else did he say about me unnie? Did he call me pretty?” Joy scooted closer to Taeyeon and clung to her arm, “he did didn’t he?” From the corner of her eyes she saw V squirm in his seat.

“He did,” Taeyeon answer much to Joy’s surprise.

“I did not noona,” V protested, his voice higher than normal.

“You’re calling your noona a liar?” Taeyeon asked, sending him a stare he remembered so well growing up. He shrunk into the cushion in defeat and Joy was left confused, “you’re just kidding right unnie? Oppa really didn’t call me pretty did he?”

“No, I’m telling you the truth. He really did call you pretty Jungeng,” but Joy refused to believe it, that was until she turned to see how red V’s face had turn. A smile appeared on her face, maybe he really did call her pretty.

Their visit with Taeyeon came to an end as V stood by the door watching the two girls say their goodbyes.

“I’ll come visit you again unnie,” he heard Joy say as she hugged Taeyeon and he couldn’t help but scoff, this girl was sure a hugger. He had lost count of how many times she had hugged his sister throughout the evening.

“Please do visit again. I sure do enjoy your company,” Taeyeon answered as she patted the younger girl’s head lovingly and V couldn’t help but feel a little bit jealous over the affection Taeyeon seemed to be giving to the girl. In his eyes, she was nothing but a bothersome girl. What exactly did Taeyeon see in her?

“I’ll come too noona,” he shouted, not wanting to be excluded from their meeting. There was no way Jungeng was going to replace him in his noona’s eyes. The two girls laughed as they made their way towards him, “please be careful on your way back and Taehyung.” He looked up at his sister, half expecting for her to tell him to walk Jungeng home, but instead she thanked him and for the first time since the accident he knew she was ready to come to terms with what happened to her fiancée.

“Make sure Jungeng gets home safely too,” and there it was, but he wasn’t even mad because deep down he knew Jungeng played a part in helping Taeyeon move on.

“I’m sorry,” he muttered once they were outside of Taeyeon’s apartment complex. It had taken him the whole time walking down the stairs to find enough courage to apologize, but he knew he had to do it.

“What?” She turned to face him, not sure if she had heard right.

“I’m sorry for the way I treated you last time.”

“Which time?” Was she really making him explain himself? And what did she mean which time? It sounded like there were multiple events he needed to apologize for.

“You know the time you showed up with Jungkook to lunch. I didn’t really mean it when I said I didn’t want you there, and I didn’t mean to call you annoying either.” Gosh, he sounded like a jerk.

“Well that’s nice to know. Apologize accepted. I guess that means I can continue to show up then?” She was touched that he actually thought about her. Truth be told, she was getting a little tired of this whole gig, but his apology made her feel a little bit better. At least she knew he cared about her, even if it was just a little.

“Well, I didn’t say that,” but Joy hushed him.

“Too late, can’t take it back,” she laughed running ahead of him. When he finally caught up with her, she had been sitting on a bench waiting for the bus to come.

“Yah, I wasn’t finish you know.” Taking the seat beside her he handed her a bouquet of flowers he had quickly bought while running after her.

“What’s this?” Her surprised face made him chuckle, “don’t be getting any big ideas. I just wanted to thank you.”

“First I hear that you called me pretty and now you’re giving me flowers. Are you okay?” Her warm hands found their way to his forehead. “You feel fine. What’s going on oppa?”She eyed him suspiciously.

“Yah, stop kidding around. I’m serious. I just wanted to thank you.”

“Jungkook must’ve told you about what happened to noona right?” Joy nodded her head.

“Well ever since the accident, noona kind of blocked the world out. She wouldn’t speak to anyone, didn’t go to work and eventually got fired from her job. I’ve been trying my best to get her to move on, I mean I know it’s hard, but she should’ve come out of her apartment from time to time. You know to see what was new in the world. It wasn’t until recently did she started to show signs of recovery as she was actually speaking and going outside, but even then you could tell there was something different about her. It was as if she was merely faking her life. The day you first met her, I was so afraid you were going to scare her away but I was wrong because the only thing I could remember from that lunch was her laughing with you. And today was no different, and I just wanted to thank you because for the first time in a long time, I finally saw my sister again. So yeah, thanks.”

Joy didn’t know what to say. Of course she was glad she could help, but for V to come out and thank her like this, it was like winning the lottery ticket.

She cleared , “yeah, no problem, but I didn’t really do anything. I just really like Taeyeon unnie, so yeah.”

“Yeah, noona likes you too.”

“Well what can I say, it isn’t hard for people to like me. I am quite the charmer wouldn’t you say?” She decided she’ll erase the awkward atmosphere by joking around.

“Sure thing Jungeng, keep thinking that.” The sarcasm was noticeable in his voice.

“Oh come on oppa, you know it’s true. I can see that I already charmed my way onto you. It’s only a matter of time before you fall for me. I mean you already called me pretty,” she wiggled her eyebrows at him as she scooted closer to him, much to his dislike.

“Yah, where did you hear that from?” He tried to convince her otherwise, “I never said that.”

“Too late, Taeyeon unnie already said it was the truth and I trust her more than I trust you,” she got up from her seat as a bus pulled in front of them, “so, oppa thinks I’m pretty,” she sing-song before hoping onto the bus.

“Aish, that girl,” he muttered underneath his breath as he watched her wave at him, unaware that he was waving back at her.
