Oppa, Saranghae

Somehow, Somewhere There Is Love

Park Joy took a slow and deep breath.

“You can do this Joy. No one knows who you are. They never seen you before. To them you are a complete stranger. A weird one, but a stranger none the less. This is for Irene unnie. Irene unnie, who you consider a friend and practically a sister. After this, she is entirely indebted to you.”

“Stop talking to yourself. You’re making yourself look weird.” Seulgi said as she watched the younger girl talk to herself.

“I already am weird. And besides if I don’t prep myself I won’t be able to do it.” She defended herself.

“Okay, their class is about to end. You start now.” Seulgi said as she handed Joy the wireless microphone.

“Do I have too?” She tried one last time, Yeri wasn’t here today as she had an afterschool club meeting so she thought she could get Seulgi to let her off, who was unfortunately tasked with managing today’s plan, i.e. bringing the speaker and microphone. How Yeri got her hands on a portable speaker was beyond any of their imagination, but then again it was Yeri and she apparently had connection or powers.

“Joy!” Seulgi wasn’t really a fan if the whole plan, but because Irene had begged her to help and the fact that Joy was foolish enough to agree to the plan she had no choice but see to it that Joy carried out her plan in acting as V’s number one fan girl. Joy really was a fool.

“Alright.” It was no use pleading for help anymore, she was entirely alone on this. No one could help her now.

Sulking, she gripped the microphone tightly and walked towards the same spot she stood yesterday. Class had just let out and already a string of students were pouring out.

She loved to sing, there was no doubt about it and she was actually quite good of course nowhere near Wendy or Seulgi, but decent none the less, yet she never imagine getting to showcase her skills in public, worse she was showcasing her skills by making a love call.

“Unnie, why don’t you sing him a song?” Yeri had suggested, even after she had clearly told Irene no.

“You’re crazy Yeri,” the younger girl really was crazy.

“I’m serious.”

“No way.”

“Come on. You love to sing! This is the perfect opportunity to show the world your skill.”

“Very convincing. Not.”

Obviously the younger girl had succeeded in convincing her into singing him a song.

“Everyone, I like to dedicate this song to Kim Taehyung.”

She took a deep breath, certain it was going to be her last. Her fingers started moving to the beat as soon as the tune of SNSD’s Oh emitted from the speaker in front of her.

“Oh. Oh. Oppa saranghae. Ah. Ah. Ah.” She felt her voice trembled, trot was her specialty and if she had her way she would be singing a trot song, but Yeri had called her old fashioned.

It didn’t take long though for her to find her energy and soon she was actually enjoying it, forgetting that she was singing for V. A crowd of student had surrounded her and as she looked up she saw them all dancing excitingly with her, and as they cheered her on, she sang even louder and more confidently.

“Man was that not a boring lecture or what?” V tiredly yawn as he walked with Irene out of their history class. He couldn’t believe his luck when he walked in on the first day of class and saw her sitting there. It made coming to school so much more pleasing.

“V, you have got to come check this out!” Jimin’s excited voice interrupted his short walk with Irene and within seconds of his loud voice, he was already in front of them panting hard. A calm Jin arrived shortly after Jimin, a sweet smile on his lips and Irene had to keep herself from melting at his sight.

“What is it?” Taehyung growled, unaware that the noona beside him was smiling from head to toe because of someone else.

“Your fan girl is singing a song for you.” Jimin said through pants, his voice covered in amusements.

“What?”

“Yeah, she’s at the quad right now.”

That girl, just wait till he got his hands on her. He made motion to move, but quickly remembered Irene beside him.

“Noona, -

“Taehyung saranghae.”

There was no time to waste, turning around he raced towards the quad, that girl had to be stop.

Irene tried to hide the growling smile on her face. Joy sure was creative, changing the lyrics of SNSD’s Oh to ‘Taehyung saranghae.’ Jimin had hurriedly followed Taehyung, whatever was going to happen next was too good to pass up leaving Jin behind who chuckled at the two younger members.

“Hello noona,” he politely greeted and Irene quickly greeted him as well.

“Shall we go see what this is all about?” Jin asked as he glanced at Irene, the tune still playing in the background. This was the second time he was left alone with Irene and he honestly didn’t know what to do, it was best to rejoin the others.

The first time was yesterday when V had disappeared and he took it upon himself to walk Irene home, he was after all a gentlemen and a gentlemen never let a girl walk home alone, especially one as beautiful as Irene.

“Actually, I’m really hungry. Do you mind accompanying me to grab something to eat? I know of this really cute café that has the best sweets?” Irene shyly asked him.

Before Jin could answer, Irene had already grabbed him by the arm and was dragging him the other direction from the quad.

“Thank you Joy,” Irene thought as she led the boy through the back entrance.

“Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Taehyung sarang-hey!” Joy shouted as she felt herself being pulled.

“Yah let go of me.” Struggling to release herself, she was no match for the strong and angry V who paid her no attention. Once they were away from prying eyes, he immediately let go of her.

“Didn’t I tell you not to show your face here again?” V questioned the girl.

Joy shrugged. “You can’t tell me what to do,” was all she could muster out under his intense glare.

"And why are you singing?"

"I was singing for you oppa." She blinked her eyes innocently when she called him "oppa."

"Yah, don't call me oppa."

"Aw, but I want to oppa. Oppa, Taehyung oppa." V shivered, her tone had gotten ten times sweeter and he wasn't sure quite sure if he actually found her aegyo cute.

"Stop talking like that."

"Like what oppa?" She feigned innocence, it was fun seeing him all flustered. She always knew she had the best aegyo amongst the other girls, Yeri came a close second, though Irene had the power to make everyone fall to their knees once she was able to convince herself to do aegyo.

“Besides, is there a law against singing?” She continued, dropping her aegyo much to V's relief.

V thought for a while. There wasn’t a law, but “you are being disruptive.”

She scoffed, disruptive?

“Says who? I didn’t hear anyone complaining.” She was right, no one was complaining, in fact it was quite the opposite as the crowd seemed to be singing along with her.

“Well I’m complaining now.”

“You don’t count.” She waved her finger at him.

“Besides I was singing this song for you. I like you a lot.” Joy said staring straight into his cold, brown eyes.

V was taken aback. Was this girl serious?

“I don’t like you though.”

Ouch, that hurt more than she had expected. She knew he didn’t like her, was expecting him not to like her, but for him to say it so casually and with so much disgust, it actually kind of hurt, especially since he had only just met her yesterday. Guess first impressions were really important.

“I know," she was serious.

“What?”

“Then why do you keep doing this?”

“Because Irene unnie is a lovesick grandma, Yeri is the devil, and Seulgi and Wendy unnie are no good,” but she couldn’t possibly tell him that.

“Because one day you will eventually like me,” her comment came out more confident than she was feeling, but she wasn't about to let him know that.

He felt flustered by her comment. The determination in her eyes surprised him. He had been confessed to countless of times, but this was different. He couldn't quite pinpoint what was different either. Maybe it was her out right confession that was different. No one had ever sang for him either, so maybe he was just touched by her grand actions and perhaps that was why he didn't know how to deal with her. This fan girl was definitely different from all of his other fan girls.

He coughed, “we’ll see about that. I guess it’s only fair to tell you that I currently have my eyes on someone else.”

She knew this. The girl he liked was none other than an unnie she loved and unfortunatley one of the schemers behind all of this. She couldn’t help but pity this boy, he was madly in love with someone who would never love him back.

The chiming of the bells from the clock tower made the two glance up at the clock.  4 o’clock.

“Damnit, Irene noona had probably already left by now,” V thought, anger quickly replacing his flustered self.

“Aish. You! You made me miss my chance to walk noona home today. This is the second time.” He angrily shouted at her.

She rolled her eyes at him, as if he didn't spend enough time with her already, heck she was trying to get away from him.

“Well, you can always walk me home,” she smiled mischievously as she walked closer to him as her fingers pointed to herself.

He made a wall between them with his hands, “no way. I don’t want people to start getting the wrong idea Fan Girl.” He emphasized on the word Fan Girl, implying that she will always only be a fan girl.

“I think people are already talking. I mean you did drag me away and we’ve been gone for quite a while now. Don’t you think people will assume we are confessing our true feelings to each other right now? I mean I did just sing you a song confessing my love.”

He saw her smile grow bigger, almost teasingly as she stared at him. She was right. He was foolish to have  taken her somewhere private.

“What will noona think?”

Giving the Fan Girl a cold glare he pointed his finger towards her and gave her a warning.

“Look Fan Girl, I don’t know who you are or where you came from because quite honestly I don’t recognize you as a regular member of my fan club, but I need you to stop whatever you are doing. I’m okay with you being a fan girl, but as your idol I need my space. Can you respect that?”

There was silence between the two and for a minute V thought she understood.

“I’ll think about it.” She said as she walked pass him, but not before sending him a flying kiss goodbye.

V groaned, she really was shameless wasn't she? But she said she'll think about it.

“Did she understand him?”

“Was she going to leave him alone?”

He could only hope.

Jin and Irene were currently sitting in a booth sharing a piece cake. “Isn’t this place the best?” She asked taking a bite of the chocolate cake.

Jin couldn’t help but smile at her cuteness.

“It’s really good. How did you ever find this place?” To be honest it was situated in a secluded place and if he had just casually walked by he would never have thought of entering.

“Oh you see Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy go to XX University, so we meet here sometimes, because this café is located in the middle.”

“Seulgi, Wendy, and Joy?”

“Ah, they're childhood friends.”

“I see. You must be a regular then.” He joked, earning a smile from the girl across from him.

“You can say that. Sometimes if I’m extra nice, the manager gives me a free drink.” She shyly admitted.

“Are you sure he’s not giving you the free drink because you’re pretty?”

Irene wasn’t sure if she heard right. Did Jin, her crush, just call her pretty?

Feeling her cheeks getting warm she quickly took a sip from her drink.

“Perhaps. Depends. Do you think I’m pretty?” She nervously asked, looking down into her lap.

It was Jin’s cheeks turn to start getting warm, but before he could answer his phone went off.

It was V, giving her an apologetic look he quickly answered his phone.

“What’s up?”

“Yeah, Irene’s with me. Yeah we are at a café. Yep, still here.”

“Actually. I just remembered I need to be somewhere like right now.” Irene blurted, fully knowing that V would join them soon.

“Never mind V, Irene noona just remembered that she needed to do something.”

“Alright bye.”

“I’m so sorry. I totally forgot.” Irene lied as she hurriedly grabbed her bag, the chances were slim but V was a fast runner and the thought of him reaching the café before she could leave made her anxious.

“That’s okay. This was fun though. We should do this again some time.” Jin said smiling at the girl.

Irene blushed.

“I would like that very much. Thank you for accompanying me today,” she said as they exited the café.

“No problem.”

“See you later.” She said as she happily skipped away.

Watching the girl who was nickname the “goddess of the school,” Jin felt his heart skip a beat.

“What are you getting yourself into Jin?”
