Unexpected Meeting

V6: Re-Born

“Do I have to go?” Hyuk whined as he was being shoved into the shared bathroom.

“Yes, you do.” Ravi replied as he continued to push Sanghyuk towards the bathroom.

“Fine” Hyuk pouted. “Send your brother to his death bed, you must be proud.”

Ravi rolled his eyes, “Stop being over dramatic, nothing’s going to happen to you.”

“How do you know? He could be a complete wacko, and he’s a scientist he could drug me or something?” Hyuk protested.

Ravi stared at his brother, questioning his sanity, “Hyukkie…do you hear yourself? If anything you’re the wacko, besides if he did try anything, which he won’t, you have super powers.”

“I guess you’re right,” Hyuk sighed.

“Aren’t I always?” Ravi boasted.

“Ew,” Hyuk spat before slamming the bathroom door in his brother’s face.

After he finished getting ready for class Hyuk pleaded one last time for his brother to let him stay in and miss class. Unfortunately Ravi was as stubborn as a mule, leaving Sanghyuk no choice but to go.  As he reached the entrance of the lecture hall he braced himself for the inevitable. With each step he took he could feel his heart clench in his chest as he got closer to the professor’s class. Room 524, this was it. Sanghyuk took a deep breath before stepping inside.

“Good Morning, Mr. Han.” The professor greeted with a smile.

“G-go-good morning,” Hyuk stuttered as he nervously staggered to his seat.

“That was weird,” Hyuk thought to himself.

This was not how he thought things would go, however he knew from past experiences to never let your guard down. As the remainder of the class filed in, class began just as it usually did. The professor gave his lecture with the occasional cheesy jokes no one ever laughed to, but nothing strange happened at all. Eventually the professor stood to dismiss the class and Sanghyuk couldn’t believe he was still alive. He quickly grabbed his things and hurried out of class before crashing full force into someone in the hall.

“Hey!” a familiar nasally voice yelled, “watch where you’re going!

“Sorry.” Hyuk apologized rubbing his head in pain. He looked up at the person in front of him to see Minho fixing his glasses. “Minho?”

“Oh you’re alive,” Minho replied as he recognized the guy in front of him as well. He then began to help Sanghyuk gather his things off the floor. “It’s a small world.”

“Or a small university,” Hyuk joked.

“So everything went fine with the professor?” Minho asked as he handed Hyuk his things.

Hyuk shook his head, “Nothing happened at all, as if he didn’t even know. He even said good morning and everything.”

“Maybe he doesn’t know,” Minho said.

Hyuk furrowed his eyebrows at the thought. “So you’re saying that Jiyoung never told him?”

Minho shrugged “That’s a possibility at least.” He looked down at his stomach before turning to Hyuk with a bright smile. “You know what would be great right now? Food, so let’s go eat!”

Before Hyuk could even say anything Minho linked arms with him and dragged him towards the dining hall.

As they entered the dining hall Hyuk couldn’t help but to smile from the smell of all the delicious food. Minho immediately released his arm from Hyuk’s and ran towards the food line. Hyuk watched in astonishment as Minho grabbed almost every item available and shoved it onto his tray. Hyuk simply grabbed a bowl of Kimchi Jjigae and some rice. Minho found them a table not too far from the line. He said it was necessary just in case he wanted seconds, which Hyuk couldn’t understand since he pretty much had all there was on his tray in front of him.

Hyuk gawked as he watched Minho devour his food. It was like he was watching a lion hunting special on Animal Planet. “Do you always eat like this?” he finally asked.

After the bowl clean Minho finally acknowledged Sanghyuk, “Not everyone is on a diet like you.”

Sanghyuk couldn’t believe what he had just heard, “You call this a diet?! This is what a normal meal is!”

Minho stared blankly at Hyuk for a moment before looking down at Hyuk’s tray. “Ok.” He said nonchalantly continuing to eat the rest of his food.

Hyuk just sat there at a loss for words.  He shook his head and slapped his cheeks before beginning to speak again. “Anyways, how long have you been here?”

“I’ve been here for about a year as a transfer student. I went to a school in England before.” Minho replied with cheeks full of food.

“Really?” Hyuk asked with a surprised expression.

“Really? Minho gasped mimicking Hyuk’s reaction. “Don’t be so surprised, I’m offended.” he laughed. “So what about you?”

“I’m a freshman. I just got here not too long ago. My brother goes here as well so my parents urged for me to come here too.” Hyuk answered as he leaned back in his chair.

Minho looked at Sanghyuk with sad eyes, “Pushy parents huh?”

Hyuk shook his head, “No, they’re not pushy; they just want what’s best for me.”

“That’s what they all say.” Minho said as he glanced over his now empty tray. “You know what? I’m going to go grab something else before the lunch ladies start to get stingy. Are you coming with?”

“No I’ll wait here.” Hyuk handed him his tray, “Take this up there will you?” he asked with wide puppy dog eyes.

Minho crunched his fists before grabbing Hyuk’s tray and heading back to line.

Hyuk glanced around the cafeteria as he waited for Minho to return. He saw his brother Ravi near the back of the cafeteria with a few of his friends from the track team. Once Ravi looked in his direction he waved and Hyuk waved in return but quickly retreated his hand when he realized his brother wasn’t waving at him but a girl behind him. As he hid his face in embarrassment he heard someone pull up a chair besides him. He looked up to see Jiyoung sitting there eating a sandwich.

Jiyoung turned to face him and smiled with her eyes as she continued to eat. Hyuk blinked rapidly while pinching his thighs underneath the table. Was he imaging things? What was she doing here and why?

“Are you ok?” Jiyoung asked, breaking Hyuk from his thoughts.

“Yes!” Hyuk jumped, straitening up in his seat.

Jiyoung chuckled at how startled Hyuk was. “You’re cute.”

Hyuk smiled as his ears became a bright red. “Cute?”

Jiyoung nodded before turning back to finish her meal. Hyuk couldn’t take his eyes off of her. Something about her just made him…well he didn’t know what she made him. Jiyoung finished her sandwich and looked to see Sanghyuk staring at her with his head in his hands. She blushed a slight shade of pink before looking down at her hands.

“I’m sorry.” Hyuk blurted out nervously turning in the opposite direction of Jiyoung.

“It’s ok.” She replied laying a hand on Hyuk’s shoulder. “I was just a bit flustered.”

Hyuk turned slowly his gaze stopping on Jiyoung’s hand.

“Oh sorry,” she said as she jerked her hand away.

“The other day,” Hyuk began, “How come you didn’t tell me you were the professor’s daughter?”

Jiyoung hung her head and sighed. “I didn’t want you to be afraid to speak to me. Imagine if I told you once you brought him up, you would have apologized for what you said and then run off.”

Hyuk began to laugh. Jiyoung wasn’t wrong. That’s exactly what would’ve happened, but he couldn’t help but to laugh at how ridiculous it sounded out loud. Jiyoung stared at him with a confused look on her face.

“What?”

“It’s just funny, you know.” Hyuk replied. “You’re right that’s exactly what would’ve happened.”

“So you’re not mad at all?” she asked.

“No, not at all, you didn’t happen to tell him what I said did you?"

“No I didn’t.” Jiyoung said as she brushed her hair with her hand. “My father thinks you’re one of the smartest kids in his class. I wouldn’t want him that image of yours to go sour.”

Sanghyuk smiled brightly before he titled his head and squinted. “Wait, how do you know what your father thinks of me?

Jiyoung began to blush as she stumbled to find the words she wanted to say. “I-I asked him about you…maybe.”

As the two sat in an awkward silence, Minho returned with another full tray.

“I literally had to fight two lunch ladies for this.” He began before he noticed Jiyoung greeting her with wide eyes. He then called Sanghyuk over to his side giving Jiyoung a quick smile before turning to face him.

“What is she doing here?!” he whispered.

Sanghyuk shrugged as he glanced over Jiyoung.

“So she just showed up?!” Minho continued.

Sanghyuk nodded in response.

“I don’t trust it.” Minho said as he nodded his head in Jiyoung’s direction. “Just go back over there and pretend everything’s fine.”

Sanghyuk then stood and returned to his seat next to Jiyoung. She looked at him with a curious expression and in return he gave her a bright smile, explaining to her that he was just telling Minho who she was. Jiyoung gave Sanghyuk a side eye before turning to Minho introducing herself personally. Minho did the same and the three of them began to talk. They all talked about where they were from and how old they were, what high school they attended as well as what they were up to now. Sanghyuk learned that Jiyoung was born and raised in Seoul. Minho was from Busan before he attended school in England. Minho was the oldest of the three being in his 21st year. Jiyoung was the second oldest only a few months older than Hyuk. He also learned that all three of them were at the top of their classes in high school. Jiyoung was the first to leave saying she had to prepare for an upcoming lab. She bowed lightly to the two men before turning to leave. Minho then went on a rant about how much he didn’t trust her but besides that he thought she was a pretty cool girl. Once he finished his second tray he said his goodbyes before leaving as well.

Sanghyuk sat there for a while to process all that had just happened. He smiled thinking about what Jiyoung said earlier about asking her dad about him. Just as he was about to stand to leave Ravi took a seat in front of him. As he sat back down he noticed the serious expression on his brother’s face and asked him what was wrong.

“Ken just called.” Ravi said. “He wants us to meet him at N’s place now. He said it was an emergency.”

Hyuk searched Ravi eyes with his own to see if he knew more than he let on. There were no signs that he did which only made Hyuk more nervous. The last time one of them called for an emergency meeting was the last time they put on the suits, the night Suho died.

Hyuk took a deep breath, “Ok, let’s go.”
