Backstage 2

This big world

Getting to Europe was his dream. Taekwoon was amazed by the amount of fans he had in that part of the world, he was also amazed by the beauty of the city and the difference between the Asian cities and European. He had to admit it, he had never set foot on Europe before, and that was one of his dreams from when he was a teenager. It would've been perfect if something was not caughing his attention so much. She looked so pale and weak... even whiter than the snow that was falling outside. His eyes were glued to Hanna while Dae Jung helped her in the van.

"... I'm fine, it's just really cold..."- he managed to catch from her low voice in the other van. Dae Jung had made sure Hanna and MinHee had less contact than before, and that meant Taekwoon and Hanna stopped their "alone time" as Dae Jung was now present for most of the time. He missed it, the time where they, even with the uncomfortable silence, spent together, just the two of them, holding hands.

"Oppa, let's go! I'm freezing!"- he heard from MinHee who was already in the van. Taekwoon couldn't help but to check on Hanna for the last time.

The time the van took from the airport to the hotel was too long for him. He remembered Hanna's face when she fainted in Hong Kong. Something was wrong, and he knew it. It wasn't just a simple flue, she was hiding something from him. MinHee went directly inside the hotel while Dae Jung and Taekwoon got the bags out of the car.

"I can do it myself"- Dae Jung said.

"Dae Jung-hyung... did... She eat?"

"Who?"

"Hanna"

"mmmm... I'm not sure"

"She has to eat..."

"I'll make sure she eats after she unpacks"

"... I'm hungry too... I should have something"

"Then let's meet in half and hour in the restaurant"

After that, he flew into the room, left the bags half undone and said to MinHee he had a gathering with Dae Jung before the photoshoot, so she could stay in the room and he'll be back at night.

He was the first of them to get to the restaurant and he made sure to sit looking to the door so he could see when they arrived.

"You are here already?"- he heard from the door. Dae Jung went in rapidly and sat.- "We can order before she gets here... I hope she can eat a lot... She's very skinny"- Dae Jung asked the waiter to bring them some dishes and they waited.

"Hyung... I have a bad feeling about..."- but he could not complete his speech as Hanna went in the restaurant with a strange expression in her face. She was a little blushed, that in her state was obvious. She sat and Dae Jung started talking to her, but Taekwoon was only concerned by her reactions and the way she ate. He could feel it, the difficulty she had just trying to chew, not to mention swallow the food.

"Do you feel better?"- Taekwoon asked after she finished the meal.

"Yes. The medicine has helped"- she said avoiding his eyes. He noticed, it was an obvious lie. Another interruption by Dae Jung who had no idea what he was feeling, what she was feeling. Again, he felt the need to go to her, and once again, MinHee came to his mind.

"It's cold outside... make sure you take a good coat. We need you in good health"- was the only words he could spit. As he got up and left her almost abandoned sitting in there, but as he was looking back he noticed she was right behind him, with the brightest smile she could manage in her state. They got into the van once again. She was in front of him, but as always, she was avoiding his eyes- "Are you tired?"- he waited a while but she didn't respond- "Hanna?"- her reaction was way too beautiful. Her eyes where glued to the floor and a hint of blush took her cheeks.

"No... it's just that it was a long trip"- she bit her lower lip, it made him crazy. He tried to stick to his own from then on.

It was a tough afternoon. The photoshoot took more than he had desired and he knew Hanna was always there, trying to help in everything she could. He had to concentrate on work, but somethimes he could caught a glance of her.

From the moment he met her, he knew she was different. He had seen a lot of girls, his job made him analize them and he had almost categorized them. But she, well, she was very different from her fans, she was very different from MinHee. She was a serious person, very commited with everything she had in front. She would always put others above her and even when she had some temper, she almost always avoided having problems with other people. She was hyper too, she couldn't just stay still for a long time. She never weared clothes too uncomfortable for her to sit in the floor or walk great distances. She was very fond of every activity of the day and enjoyed it with her heart.

He was in the middle of the photoshoot but he could only think of her. It was already the last outfit when he noticed Hanna's absence. He searched everywhere, but couldn't grab a hold of her. Some minutes later he saw two people coming in the studio with large boxes. Hanna was... smiling? There was a tall tanned male at her side and she was... smiling to him. Who was that guy? Why was she smiling so freely? After a while, the guy left and Hanna started handing out coffe.

He approched and grabbed his coffe from behind her.

"I brought you dessert"- she said. He liked it, her voice when she was speaking to him. It was at least 2 notes higher than her usual voice. He smiled for his inside.

"Thank you"- but after that he could noticed something was distracting her.  The interview was a bit difficult, she couldn not concentrate and her state was getting worse. She was tired and he knew it. But there was also something else, something that made her mind busy. When they were over the interview was past 3 a.m. The van was silent and cold and Hanna looked even more distracted than before.

"What are you thinking about? You were distracted over the interview"- he asked aout of the blue. The curiosity won over his self control.

"Oh... sorry... I'm worned out"- she certainly was, but there was something else. He couldn't win over his need to touch her and confirm she was ok.

"You're cold again"- he said after touching her forehead.

"Can we hold hands? Maybe I need to refill my vessels"- she said shyly. He could not leave her like that, and so, he took her hands and carefully placed them among his fingers, the familiar warm feeling filled him. Slowly and silently she fell asleep in his shoulder/- "What's really going on?"- he asked as if she could hear him- "I hate... not knowing".

______________________

"Are you gonna get breakfast?"- Dae Jung asked. It was early in the morning and he was tired from the day before. It was their day off, but he was dragged to every fashion shop in Stockholm. He was so tired that he wanted to sleep all day, but it was the last day on Stockholm and he had to take care of certain things.

"I'm going down in a bit"- he answered while Dae Jung was getting out. MinHee was still sleeping soundly in her bed- "You can keep sleeping... I'll bring you something to eat"- Before going to the restaurant he decided to pass by Hanna's room. He hadn't seen her the day before and he was a bit preocupaid. He knocked in her door, but she didn't answer. He decided to just go down and let her sleep a bit, but the surprise was quite big when he saw her in the restaurant. She was sitting in front of a man, a man he had seen before but he couldn't remember when or where. But what he hated the most was Hanna's expression: He had never seen her so relaxed, so happy, almost brilliant.

"Good morning... I was just going up... I'll be packing my baggage and then we can leave"

"Am I interrupting something?"- of course he was absolutely sarcastical about the question.

"Breakfast"- the stranger also responded in the same sarcastical tone. The stranger was holding a cup of coffe and took zips of it from time to time, and Taekwoon didn't know why he found that so nerve wracking. In that moment their eyes met for the first time. For some reason, the stranger directed a full hate gaze at him, and, he responded in the same way.

"Should I call the waiter? Do you want to have breakfast?"- Hanna asked nervously, but for some reason he was very into the situation that was developing against the other guy and decided not to pay attention to her.

"... your name?"- he asked in the coldest tone he could manage to get.

"Doctor Cha Hakyeon"- the guy answered. Taekwoon knew the guy intentionately revealed his status and he wasn't going to let that go.

"Jung Taekwoon, I'm her soulmate"- he said making use of his relationship with Hanna. Hakyeon's reaction was not satisfing for his ego: he smiled to Hanna. What was their relationship? How could he treat her so naturaly when even him, his soulmate, was so apart?

"She's my friend, so we have that in common"- Taekwoon's eyes set onto Hanna's. He wanted to ask her, so much, but he knew even when he asked, she would avoid it and end up not answering.

"Hakyeon-ah... I'm done... and so do you... I have to get going and pack up my things. Should we continue the conversation by phone?"- So there was something he didn't know.

"What conversation?"- his ego was hurted, he wanted to enter in a confrontation hand to hand with the guy... over Hanna?

"She's consulting me about her health"- that was it. Taekwoon's knees trembeled a little, he found difficult to breath for a second- "You've noticed, haven't you? She isn't well"- of course he had noticed. He had been going on and on in his mind about it. In that moment he saw Hanna, her behavior changed completely. From her usual, easy going actitud, she was now... furious. She grabbed Hakyeon's hand and made him get up. Her eyes were on fire. In that moment he understood, if he didn't take that chance to find something about it, he might stay in the shadows for a long time.

"Is she... sick?"- his voice made Hanna stop pulling Hakyeon. Taekwoon got up and look at him in the eye-" Please tell me... I... need to know"- it took every courage in his body to say it aloud. He needed to know. He really needed it, the thoughts about Hanna had been consuming most of his time those days.

"She... needs to have an inyection. It's just to keep her healthy"- In that moment Taekwoon looked at her. She was indeed looking better, her cheeks had some color and the natural light in her eyes had came back. And then, he couldn't help but noticed, she was grabbing Hakyeon's hand. It was like someone had punched him in his right side, he tried to keep his cool- " As you are her soulmate, you need to know... it hurts a lot, but if she takes the shoots every 36 hours, she'll be fine. All you can do it's make sure someone inyects her"

He was trying to process what the guy was telling him, but the pain in his right side was very distracting. He could only see his hand over hers.

"So with this... she'll be ok?"- he managed to say.

"Yes"

Even when he knew that her health had been getting worse, he know felt even more suspicious about the relationship between her new "doctor" friend, the way they were treatiing each other and the sudden change in her state. He didn't want to admit it, but that guy made him... nervous.

He returned to his room alone, with no breakfast and feeling worse than he had ever. What was that pain?

____________________

While in Hamburg he couldn't help but stare more obviously at Hanna. Every time he looked at her he could remember. The way she took the other guy's hand and stucked it tightly, the nervousness he could still fell on her everytime he made sure she took her daily shot. He was not stupid, it was obvious she wanted to mantain that as a secret. The thing he discovered was that... he didn't know Hanna at all. He didn't know where was she born, when, her family or friends. She was a stranger. And then, everytime he remembered the fact, he could also clearly see the worried expression she made when her doctor friend tried to explain her status to him.

That day the whole staff were out eating in a Korean restaurant. It was one of the habits they had after having a concert, and that was one of the rare occations were all of them were in the same place. Hanna was sitting in another table, but he could follow closely everytime she had a bite. He had to admit it, she looked better after starting using that drug... but he hated not knowing. Finally, the distraction payed off, he fliped his glass of water on the table and MinHee was completely soaked.

"What's going on with you?"- MinHee asked inraged- "Really, since Hong Kong you've been.. weird"

"It's nothing... I'm just tired"- he tried to avoid while cleaning her.

"It's not that... there's something different..."- she said, and then dropped the subject in the air. He got suprised by the lack of incistence, but was greatful of it. In the way to the hotel, she didn't spoke a word. He knew she was in state where he couldn't possibly say something to calm her down, and that they would have a fight later that night.

"What's this? Really? Ahhh... do you want me to leave you alone? Are you tired of me?"- he wasn't going to say yes to that, but in that moment he really needed time to think, and MinHee, Hanna and Dae Jung were always around.

"No... it's just that I..."

"It's ok... I get it. I wanna have sometime too, so I'll be leaving to Paris tomorrow"- she started packing right in that moment- " You don't have to feel bad or anything, I have some friends in Paris I wanna visit too, and... you can have the time you want. We'll see each other in Paris".

"MinHee..."

"You don't have to say. I know you. You want time to think and I need time away from her..."- she had some sort of nostalgic tone in her voice- "I love you and I know when I'm being too much for you to handle... I know it's time"

"MinHee I don't want you to leave"- he was not lying, he didn't want her to go, but the truth was that he needed a break, from everything.

"Think about whatever you need to tell me and let's talk about it in Paris"- she started zipping her bag, he couldn't see her face from his position, but he knew she was sad, and a bit disapointed at him- "... can I sleep with you?"

"Of course"- he said and approched her from behind, she was kneeling in front of the closed bag, she was static. He kneeled down with her and backed hugged her. She loved him, and he knew, it was just a moment in his life, but he would never let her go.

______________________

Berlin was chaotic too. The first two days Taekwoon slept less than 3 hours. The time he needed to think was full of work and none of reflexion. He was stressed not only because his situation with Hanna and MinHee, but also because he had had a conversation with his sister over the phone.

"What do you want Jiae?"

"I love you too oppa..."- she said sarcasticaly.

"Ahh sorry..."- he was not at all.

"It's ok, I know you are working but... well I need you to know and yu hav to tell Hanna"

"What is it?"- he noriced something nervous in her voice.

"He have to set the wedding date earlier than expected..."

"How much earlier?"

"A lot... the church had a plumbing problem and we had to find nother one, but the schedule is full, and they could only give us this date..."

"When?"- he panicked a little.

"In two weeks..."

"WHAT?!"- he screamed-"Two weeks... I'll be in Paris..."

"I know... HongBin hadn't been able to tell Hanna. I know it's almost impossible but... can you come?"

"I... can't"

"I know... ahhh"- she sighed- "Hanna... ohhh she's not gonna be happy"

"You should call her"- he said- "The sooner the better"

"What do you mean? You are the one that hace to tell her"- she said almost screaming.

"Why?!"- he scramed back.

"Because it's your fault she cannot be here with us!! Listen... that you don't care about anyone but yourself doesn't mean that the whole world goes around you. She... loves Binnie as a brother, they have been together forever!! you cannot understand... Oppa... She loves him"

"I know"- he said. He wasn't saying it just to stop the verbal vomit her sister was sputting, he really knew. She... was always real, she had always been... and he knew she loved Hongbin... deeply- "I'll... tell her"- he heard a sigh in the phone.

"Do it... nicely"- she said and then hang up.

"... not only my little sister hates me, I'm alone, and I have to break the heart of that girl again... I'm begining to hate myself too"- he said to himself.

____________________________

That day he wasn't specting anyone. Dae Jung had a visit to the doctor with her wife, and for the first time in months, he was alone, to think. But then, a knock in the door made him get up from the coach he was lying on and with heavy steps approached the door.

"Mmmm..."- was the only thing that left his lips when he saw Hanna waiting in the hall. He didn't know what to say or to think.

"Dae Jung-oppa just worries. Can I come in?"

"Isn't this is the only day off in Berlin...?"- he knew that she was planning on going somewhere, probably to draw or to take some pictures.

"I'm staying with you"- she smiled shyly. He was getting  used to that shy smile. Her cheeks got pinkier and her honey colored eyes tried desperadly to avoid him.

"So... are you really going to stay ...here locked in a room with me?"- she blushed deeper. He was laying against the door frame, very calmly. He liked the way she always was so honest with her actions.- "Aren't you a bit too hyperactive for that?"

"Maybe I need to rest for a day"- she passed through the little space between his body and the door frame and went in the room. She sat in the coach he was lying on and took out her sketchbook- "I can draw, you can read"

"You can draw outside"- she looked like always, really normal, but everytime he took that sketchbook and took a pencil in her hand, her eye shape changed a bit.

"I can draw here too"

"I can read outside"- he wasn't planning on reading at all and he didn't wanna go out that day, but... he was getting his shoes from the closet without thinking- "Where were you planning to go to?''

"No... I"

"I've been having the need to eat some of the tradicional food in Germany... we can walk around and have something for lunch... maybe the Antiques and and Book Market near the Bode Museum?"

"...How did you know?"- by then she have gotten up form the coach and was heading to where he was standing.

"I heard you talking with one of the staff"- he saw the scarf she was wearing on the coach and so he went there and grab it. He rapidly arranged it in her neck and almost pushed her to the door. - "let's go... I wanna be here before the sunset".

He asked the receptionist for a cab and in less than a minute, they were riding it to the Antiques market. It was a silent ride, he didn't know what to say to make her at least a bit comfortable, but after reking his brains he talked about the only thing that he was responsable for her.

"Did the doctor come?"

"Yes"- she answered- "I had the shot in the morning"- He noticed, from Amsterdam on, she was healthier, happier at least. She smiled warmly, he knew she felt happy when he asked her about the shots. He could see it in her eyes... the same honesty. He looked throught the window. He felt better to see her in the reflexion.

"...should we hold hands?"- he extended his hand to her- "It's getting cold"- those moments, when he touched her hand, made it worth it. All the problems and all the hurt, that warmth...

As they got to the market, noon was reaching.. He started walking from the main street to the entrance of the market and he dragged Hanna along. He was in a good mood, the weather was nice, and he felt better holding her hand.

"Can we walk around a bit? I thing after a while we should grab a bite and then... well we'll see."- he could only see in front. It was the first time he was excited about somenthing like that.

"Ne"

He loved it, he had forgotten that he had that kind of... need to, well, just spend time out of his usual world. The tends were full of stuff, works of art, bookshelfs filled with really old books, pieces of fabrics, carpets and metal pieces of pottery.

"You like it?"- he asked after a while.

"It's amazing"- this time she lead. She started dragging him around the tents. It was nice, having her hand guiding him. She was so agile, she didn't stop at all, avoiding to clash with people or to get hit by the products hangging out.

"Walk a little slower..."

"I wanna see it all... we might have no time. You want to be back in the hotel at sunset so we have to walk fast and... I wanna go to illustration sectoin and the book section too, and to the..."- he pulled her and she lost balance, she was going to fell but he stopped her in mid air and embraced her in a hug. She was very light, he could fell her ribs throught her coat, and that made him worried.

"Just stop... we can take our time on it. I was joking about going back at sunset."- He wasn't, he had a meeting with one of the sponsors of the tour, but he didn't want her to worry. They started walking slowly again. It was the first time they walked at one side. She looked so delicate at his side, so little like a kid. After an hour of wandering he noticed Hanna was not paying any attention to the market anymore.

"Are you paying attention?"- he asked after 15 minutes of meaningless walk- "I thought you wanted to see the antiques..."

"I do"- she said, but her eyes, once again were trying to avoid him.

"So why aren't you paying attention?"- he was annoyed. He was there, trying to be nice to her, and she was looking somewhere else, thinking about... someone else maybe?

"I'm sorry"- she said smiling stupidly. He let go of her hand and went into a tent. The tent was filled with books and some other scrolls. Fabrics and cloths hanged from tall metalic rococo sculptures. It was memorable, almost like if they had entered ina medival era just by walking in the tent.

"We've been walking in circles for a long time. I hoped you noticed this tent and went in but... ohhh"- he looked down at one if the shelves in the tent. There was a little pocket clock that had an art noveau craving on it. He was inmediately caught by it. It was beautiful, he had seen one like that in a Hollywood movie. He had always been interested in that period of history. People and stuff... well, it must have been so much easier to live in that time.

"You like it?"- she asked getting near him- "mmm... I didn't give you anything for your birthday..."

"We haven't even met in my last birthday..."

"I don't care... I have to give you something. You like it?"

"Let's go!"- he grabbed her hand and made her go out.

"But I wanna buy it for you..."

"Save yor money for something worth it. Now let's go to a restaurant."

They then left and head off to the street to find something to eat. This time, it felt natural to hold her hand. He liked them, they felt familiar. He noticed they had the same kind of hands. Even when she was short and slim, her hands were long and slender. Her nails were always natural, but shined like they had been polished for a long time.

They went in the restaurant and had a good classic german lunch, they walked back to the market and ended the tour after a while. They found a little park not too far from the market and decided to sit there. The view of the Bode museum and the lake was just amazing. And there Hanna took off her utensils for drawing. He was waiting for it.

"I haven't seen you do it"- he said getting near her- "It's nice"

"Thank you"- He hadn't seen any picture drawn by her except the one she once left in the table of the restaurant in Hong Kong. It was in a little notebook paper, rather sketchy but drawn in such a delicate, careful and beautiful way... His eyes, his lips and every hair in his haid was perfectly drawn. A young Hongbin was looking at him with a warm smile on his face. He was not an expert but, something in the drawing made him stare at it, for hours. He took that drawing and it remained in his wallet from then on.

An hour or some later Hanna took the watercolors off. He hadn't noticed how long he had been watching her. Her concentration was amazing, her eyes rolled from the actual view to the drawing and her hand translated every line in art.

"Do you always draw like this?"- he dared to asked.

"I don't know... I never put much thought on it"

"It's beautiful..."- he got near the almost done picture and admired it closely- "So this is the level of an almost graduate art student"- she giggled a bit.

"Mmm... it's getting late... Should we return?"- she suggested, even though returning was the last thing she wanted.

"Dae Jung-hyung must be in a rage right now... Finish up and then we'll leave"

"Nee"

The way to the hotel was as silent as the morning travel but she couldn't shake the smile out of her face.Taekwoon could see it from the reflexion of the window, and he couldn't stop his smile either. He was happy he could make her happy, at least for a day, at least until he had to break the news he had been holding. He wanted to see her smile for now.

Chapter 25: Absolutely loved it! Of course, the spelling and grammar was a bit off as you mentioned in the beginning, but that surprisingly didn't bother me one bit. The story was just too good! I was getting a bit angry during the Hakyeon and Hanna scenes, because I never shipped them AT ALL. I was hardcore Taekwoon and Hanna xD so this ending was just perfect for me! Really, really great story, I loved it so much. Keep doing what you're doing because whatever it isn't, it's working ;) this story was just perfect!
