The Call
Lena was sitting on her white sofa, listening to a song by Eddy Kim while reading Love & Misadventure when she realized her phone was ringing. Lena was not expecting the name to pop on her screen when she looks to her phone.
Yi Fan.
Lena contemplated whether to answer or let the call go to voice mail. Without her knowing though, her fingers swiped towards the answer button. She immediately put on the phone near her.
“Hello?” She could hear that familiar, warm voice again.
“Hello.” She answered while trying to calm herself.
“Lena.” Kris called out, “How are you?” He asked and waited for Lena to answer his question.
“I’m okay” She answered and immediately straightened herself up on the sofa.
“Are you busy?” Kris asks again making sure that he wasn’t disturbing her in any way.
“No, not really” She answered and tried to calm herself again.
“Where are you now?” He asked, he had decided to take Lena out for dinner. He knew talking on the phone will seem more awkward.
“Home” She simply answered and looked around her place.
“Do you want to get dinner? I could pick you up” Kris finally said his intention out. He bit his lips hoping that Lena would agree.
“Em,” Lena looked at her watch, it was 5.45pm, definitely not late, she tried to come up with an excuse but couldn’t. “Em” was the only word that came out from .
“We could get your favourite; pasta” Kris said again and Lena was already swayed with that word.
“Okay” was the only thing that she could think of.
“I’ll pick you up, is that okay with you?” Kris asks again to make sure that Lena will be comfortable with those arrangements.
“Yeah, that will be fine” Lena then read out her address and Kris realized that her house was only 5 minutes away.
“Be ready by half past six?” Kris asked and almost felt that smile from Lena even though he couldn’t see if she really was smiling.
“That sounds good, see you then?” Lena politely said and ended the call.
Lena stood and walks up to her closet. Panic started to creep in, she couldn’t decide what to wear. She only moved her clothes one by one to check what she should wear. Everything seems simple, seem effortless. Lena was taken aback by herself. She never realized that she would be contemplating on clothes.
She decided on a straight washed-blue jean with dark navy loosed sweaters. She took her canvas shoes and decided to let her long wavy hair loose.
