DEATH
Eternities
XXIV. HONG BIN
Standing in front of the dusty mirror, I stared at the splitting image of myself. My baggy eyes, my weary expression, my cracking lips... I now knew the reason why people didn't want to come close to me, to stay by my side, especially in this state. I brushed a bunch of my arid and frizzy hair with my weak fingers. A few strands of auburn hair stuck in between them. Looking at my hopeless condition, I sighed.
"You look beautiful."
For the hundredth time, he appeared before me, reaching out for my locks. I remember the first day we met, when I fainted, he called himself "Death".
"Do I really?"
He paused for a while, "At the point of death, pain is over. Death is peaceful - So you'll look at peace. You won't have to look any more miserable than this." He assured with a smile.
"Does it hurt very much to die?" I asked with wavering eyes as he held my hair a bit tighter.
"Well, sweetheart..." He told me, "Yes, but it hurts a lot more to keep living.”
Since then, I've realized that the only person that would stay beside me until the end was Death.
