Beep…beep…beep…beep

A soft groan broke through the sounds of the anesthetic machine monitoring the patient’s heartbeat and blood pressure, and much more. The young man lying in the bed, attached to multiple machines, struggled to open his eyes. His brain was telling him that he needed to wake up, but his body was not following the order; like it was not ready to wake up. His whole body hurt, weakened from the accident and from the lack of movement being stuck in bed for so long. But his mind was not going to let up that it was time for him to get up, he needed to wake up; and that determination resulted in his fingers twitching, and then his hand.

“Hongbin? Sweetheart, can you hear me? Come on, wake up please son, please, wake up.”

The movement coming from the bed had caught the attention of those in the room with him. His mother and father had thought that maybe they were hearing things when their son had first groaned out in pain. They watched closely, hoping for another sign that he might finally be waking up. Once they saw the twitch of his hand both were quick to react. His father rushed to get a nurse or find Dr. Ahn, while his mom was instantly at his side and was encouraging him to wake up. She needed her son to open his eyes for her, needed to know that he was alright.

“Come on sweetheart, wake up for me. You need to wake up now, you have been sleeping for too long.”

Slowly, Hongbin’s eyes fluttered open for the first time in nearly two weeks. His mother was filled with overwhelming joy and her eyes began to blur with tears of relief. She brushed her hand threw his hair, but before she could say anything to him, the doctor and nurses came rushing through the door and Hongbin’s parents were being ushered out of the room so that they could check on the patient.

Out in the waiting room, his parents were busy making calls to family to let them know that he was finally awake. His sisters informed their parents that they would be at the hospital shortly to join them since they had to go back to work and was unable to stay with them the whole time Hongbin ad been asleep. They made sure to also call VIXX and let them know because they knew how much the boys wanted to be there for Hongbin. And it was not long after Hongbin’s father had gotten off of the phone with their manager that the five remaining members of VIXX were running into the waiting room with their manager in tow. The boys had already been on their way to the hospital when they had received the parents call.

“What did they say? Is he alright?” Hakyeon spoke first in a hurried voice, out of breath from running to get to Hongbin’s parents.

Hongbin’s father was the one to answer, “We haven’t been told anything yet. They just went in to check on him when we made the calls, and you were one of the first ones we called after his sisters. So it could still be a little while before we hear something about his condition.”

Hakyeon nodded in understanding as they all sat down and nervously waited for Dr. Ahn to come out and talk to them about their son and brother. Though it did not take as long as they thought it would be as thirty minutes later, Dr. Ahn was walking into the waiting room, approaching the group with a small smile on his face,

“How is my son Dr. Ahn?”Hongbin’s mother asked once the doctor was close enough.

“ We are going to be running a few more tests, a few more CT and MRI scans now that he is awake, but it appears that once again Mr. Lee was very lucky enough to get by with just a concussion, though it would be classified as severe since he did lose consciousness. His memory around the time of the accident as a little fuzzy, but that is normal for individuals suffering from a concussion, they can have a touch of amnesia concerning the traumatic event that resulted in the concussion.

“He seems to remember bits and pieces which is a good thing, however he may or may not remember all of what happened, or just recover a few more bits and pieces, we cannot be sure, but just know that it is nothing to really worry about. The brain is a fascinating thing, especially when it trying to process traumatic events. Once again, Mr. Lee is very lucky that he made it out of that accident was as few injuries as he did. All things considered, I could have had to give you much worse news on your son and friend.”

Everyone felt so relieved with the news that Hongbin was in better shape than expected and that he suffered no real memory loss. He was going to be alright.

Just as Dr. Ahn was getting ready to walk away, Hongbin’s mother called to him,

“Dr. Ahn? What about my son’s knee? Will he be able to dance or perform ever again?”

Dr. Ahn released a breath and turned to face the worried group, “Now that you son is awake and after we have cleared him of any major head trauma, we will turn our attention to his knee. I have, however, already sent his file to a fellow doctor at a different hospital who come highly recommended. She is one of the top in her field and has dealt with similar injuries caused by traumatic events. During the time that Mr. Lee was in a coma-like state, she has reviewed is file and she has agreed to help if she can.”

“So there is a possibility?” Ravi was the one to speak, hoping that his same age friend was able to make a full recovery and they could continue to fulfill their dream together.

“I cannot say one way or another. I wish I could, but I do not want to give you false hope when it comes to an injury in a field that I am not fully familiar with. All I can say is that Dr. Kang is one of the best in her field, even if she is fairly young, she is very good in what she does. And once Dr. Kang evaluates Mr. Lee’s condition we will know more.”

Dr. Ahn gave a slight nod to the group and made his exit, leaving the group to their thoughts and to talk among themselves.

Across the city, Kang Sujin was getting off the phone with Dr. Ahn after being informed that Lee Hongbin had finally woken up. She decided to go over and evaluate him then instead of waiting, because the sooner she could see him, the sooner she would know what she was working with.

She wore a simple color block, a-line dress with a white, collared, short sleeved top and beige skirt that fell just above her knees. It had buttons lining the front of the dress from top to bottom, and a dark brown belt. She also wore a pair of brown wedge sandals. Her hair falling down in soft waves down her back, and light make up, to her she was dressed business casual, as well as dressing her age. Satisfied with her appearance, Sujin grabbed her bag, along with Lee Hongbin’s file and walked out the door to make her way to the hospital he was at.

She couldn’t help but feel slightly nervous about this meeting. Yes, she had dealt with cases similar to Mr. Lee’s, but none of them had so much weight on the success of the surgery. She basically held the future of Lee Hongbin’s career in her hands and if she couldn’t help him, she did not know what he would do. No matter how many cases she worked, each was unique in its own way. Every individual was different in terms of injury, how they respond to the different forms of treatment; whether it is surgery or another form of treatment; and then there is the recovery period after surgery. People heal differently, some heal slower than others and then there are some that heal quicker. There were multiple factors to consider when going into a situation such as this one where an individual’s career in on the line if one thing goes wrong. So of course Sujin was going to be nervous going into this consultation.

Shaking her head to clear it of all doubts and concerns, Sujin forced herself to focus on being more positive and confident as she drove to meet Dr. Ahn. If she went into this doubting herself than she would begin to think that there was no way to help Hongbin, and she could not think that way. She had to believe that there was a chance to help him; she needed to start thinking logically and not emotionally.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Sujin took a deep breath, mentally preparing herself for this consultation and any possibly outcomes. Grabbing her bag with everything that she needed, she got out of the car and headed into the hospital where she was greeted by Dr. Ahn,

“Ah, Dr. Kang, it is a pleasure to finally meet you. I have heard a lot of good things about you and your work; I am very impressed. Though I will say I was a little surprised to hear how young you really are in comparison to all that you have been able to do in such a short period of time. I hope that you do not take any offence to the doubts that I hold about bring you in to work with Mr.  Lee?”

Sujin gave the older man a small smile, “I understand, you are not the first. I realize that because of my age, those who have been in the medical field longer will hold some reservations about my abilities until they see that my age does not hinder my abilities. But I am honored that despite you doubts, you still considered me in being the acting orthopedic surgeon. I heard about the accident and it was surprising to read his file and find that he managed to come out of it with minimum injuries, the worst being the concussion and his knee, correct?”

Dr. Ahn let out a short sigh, “Yes. He is rather lucky that his injuries are not worse and that he was even able to wake, or make it out of that kind of accident alive. After reading his file, do you think that you will be able to help him?”

Sujin was silent for a moment, running through what she had read from his file his file once more before she answered, “Just going off of the information in his file, and considering his age, his overall physical health prior to the accident, and that this is the first time he has suffered a major trauma to his knee such as this; I do not see why I should not be able to help him. However, there are many others factors to consider, such as you know as a doctor that every individual will heal and handle treatment differently, the same goes for this situation. But before I can fully say that I can or cannot help him, I really will need to evaluate him myself.”

She gave him a bright smile, in hopes of easing the tension she could clearly read in his body. He returned the smile, but just slightly and it was that forced, awkward smile that made her realize just how many reservations he help against her and if she could actually help. It did not matter the recommendations he was given about her skills and abilities, for him none of it would matter because of her age and possibly even gender. All she could do was let out an annoyed sigh and fall back slightly so that she was walking behind him instead of beside him. Letting her insecurities show just slightly in her body language.

The two came to a stop in front of door where Sujin could hear yelling coming from inside. She looked to Dr. Ahn with her wide espresso colored eyes full of surprise. She was not expecting to hear angry yelling to be coming from inside a room where someone’s loved one had just woken up from a two week coma. She couldn’t help but wonder what it was all about. It even made her question if she really wanted to go into said room when there could be a chance that that anger became aimed at her; especially if she was not able to deliver any type of good news.

Within an hour after Dr. Ahn delivered the news of Hongbin’s condition, they had completed the remaining tests and had even helped Hongbin take a shower. Once all was completed, the group had gathered into the room to see Hongbin, awake, for the first time in nearly two weeks.

“We are glad to see you up. You really had us worried you know?” Hakyeon spoke as he lightly hugged Hongbin after the other members.

Hyuk sat on the bed next to Hongbin, literally attached to his side as tight as he could without hurting him. After everything, Hyuk was scared to leave Hongbin’s side and was even slightly traumatized from seeing the older boy’s mangled body after the accident. Hongbin looked at the younger boy and gave him a reassuring smile before turning back to the rest of the group,

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you. The nurses told me how long I had been in a coma, and what they could of the accident.”

“You don’t remember anything?” Ravi questioned.

Hongbin shook his head, “Bits and pieces, but not enough to put all of it together. Most of it is fuzzy though so not really clear on what it is I do remember. The doctor, Dr. Ahn, told me that is to be expected with the concussion.”

His mom hugged him closer to her as she situated herself on the other side on him on the bed so that he was squished between her and Hyuk. “As long as you are alright now, that is all that matters.”

He looked at her, giving her his signature dimpled smile, “Yeah, but I’m not looking forward having to go through the physical therapy for my knee. But it will all be worth it once I can get back to preparing for the concert and get to perform on stage again. I guess the fans have been really vocal since the accident.”

The whole room got extremely quiet, the only sound coming from the machines. The same though ran across everyone’s mind; he didn’t know. Eyes darted around the room as an air on unease filled which did not go unnoticed by the injured boy in the bed. He looked at those in the room with him, but none of them were willing to meet his eyes and that just confused him more as he questioned in his mind of why they demeanor changed when he mentioned the concert and performing.

“What is it? Did something happen to the plans of the concert because of the accident? Now that I am awake, I am sure that the concert/tour can continue as originally planned.”

No one spoke, and if anything looked more upset the more Hongbin talked about the possibility of performing at their upcoming concert and tour. The silence was beginning to frustrate Hongbin and with every uncomfortable shift in their body language added to the irritation. With a roll of his eyes, he turned his body just enough so that he could look at Hyuk,

“Sanghyuk, tell me what is going on. Now.”

The maknae glanced around at the group, all were silently telling him to not say a thing. He hated not telling Hongbin the whole truth, he deserved to know what he was in for, and his chances of getting back on that stage. And if no one else is going to tell him, not even his parents then he was going to tell him. He let out a sigh, shifting on the bed, facing Hongbin with a grim expression,

“Because of the impact of the car to your knee, the doctor is not sure if you are going to be able to dance again. Even after you heal.”

That news floored Hongbin; he did not know how to process that information. Questions raced around his head, followed be anger and denial. But before he could vocalize any of the questions or what he felt, Taekwoon spoke,

“While Dr. Ahn is uncertain of your future as an idol, there is a chance…”

“A chance? How much of a chance? Why did no one tell me this before?” His hands clenched, balling the covers into his fists, “Don’t you think that I should know that my career is possibly over?! That I might have to give up what I love? Give up what I have worked so hard to achieve! I deserve to know!”

“We thought they had told you,” His father stated, calmly in understanding of his son’s anger. “We did not know how to tell you ourselves and honestly had hoped that we would not have to. We figured that the doctor would have discussed everything when going over your injuries.”

Hongbin took a deep breath, trying to calm down before speaking again, “They told me about my injuries, but did not say anything about not being able to dance or perform again.”

Just then the door opened and in walked Dr. Ahn along with a young woman who seemed familiar to Hongbin, but he could not place where.

“The reason I did not say anything is because Dr. Kang wanted to evaluate Mr. Lee herself so that she can draw her own conclusion about his injury.”

Dr. Ahn stepped into the room with Sujin sticking close behind him, biting her bottom lip as her nerves were now hitting her full force as she realized that Lee Hongbin was being accompanied by not only his parents, but also by the other members of VIXX. A small part of her wanted to go into fan girl mode, but she was able to hold it back, not wanting to scare them, especially since she was there as a doctor, not a fan. She took a deep breath, stepping out from behind Dr, Ahn. Giving a full 90 degree bow, she introduced herself to the group in front of her,

“Hello, I am Doctor Kang Sujin, and I will be assessing Mr. Lee Hongbin to determine the level of trauma down to his knee and the form of treatment will best work for him.”

If it were at all possible, the second Hongbin heard Sujin’s name, they widened more than normal. He now knew why she looked so familiar to him, Kang Sujin was a girl who Hongbin used to have a crush on, and who was also his childhood best friend. He couldn’t believe that she was standing in front of him now, after she had left when they were in middle school, he never thought that he would see her again. Now here she was standing in front of him and he had no idea of what to say or do. All he could manage was to gawk at her like some kind of creep, and it was making her feel a little uncomfortable, but she had to shake off the unnerving feeling a focus on the task at hand.

“I know that Mr. Lee just woke up and that you would like to spend some more time with him, but the quicker I am able to evaluate him, the quicker I can diagnosis his condition and the best treatment option. It will also allow me to determine the probability of Mr. Lee still being able to perform.”

She gave them a small, sweet smile in hoped of reassuring the group that everything was going to be alright. No one said anything, only stared at Sujin and silently questioned if they should trust her with Hongbin’s health. Dr. Ahn had told them that she was fairly young, but she looked to be the same age as Hongbin; so how could she possibly provide him the help that he needs?  The members of VIXX turned to Hongbin’s parents, waiting for them to do something so that they could follow their lead.

Sujin could clearly read their doubt and reservations on their face and honestly, she could not blame them. Even if it was not about her age; it is reasonable to be hesitant to entrust a loved one into the care of someone they do not know. And considering the circumstances and what is at risk if Sujin is not able to help, they have every right to be even more nervous and wanting to know that Hongbin will be getting the best care possible. Every person wants that when it comes to a loved one being in the hospital.

Dr. Ahn was the one to speak up first, “Please trust me that your son is in safe hand with Dr. Kang. We can wait just outside the door until she is done with her examination.”

Mr. and Mrs. Lee only nodded their head, and with one last hug to Hongbin, they walked out of the room, leaving him alone with Sujin.

She smiled at him, “Hello Mr. Lee. I am glad to see you awake.”

He returned her smile, his dimples on full displayed, “Glad to be awake, Jinnie…”

She paused in her movements, frozen from shock. It was like she was suddenly flashed back to middle school, which happened to be the last time anyone had called her by that name. How could he have known about that nickname? Even in middle school, not many people called her that; so how could he know? Unless…

Slowly turning around, Sujin cocked her head to the side and took a closer look at Hongbin who was still smiling at her. Being this close to him, and being able to look at him without any camera filters or editing in pictures, or the blocking of other fans at live events she was able to really get a good look at him. She always felt like she knew him somehow, but could never place her finger on it; however now, seeing him in a new light, something just seemed to click in her mind.

“BINNIE!”

Sujin did not hesitate to run to him and basically tackled him in a hug, forgetting all about him being injured.

“Ow, ow, ow.”

Hongbin groaned out in pain at the force of her landing on him. His face contorting to show discomfort and his body tensing and Sujin quickly pulled away,

“Oh God! Sorry, I am so sorry! I just got too excited!”

He released a small breath, chuckling at her, “I know. Hug; just wait for me to heal better before you pull me into a death hug.”

Sujin stuck her tongue out at him, and went back in for another hug only not as aggressively as the first one. She buried her head into Hongbin’s shoulder, wrapping her arms around his neck as she felt his arms go around her waist. He held her as close to his body as he could without bringing about more pain, but even that small amount of pain would be worth it just be able to hold her again. Time seemed to stand still as they held one another.

Though this was supposed to be a happy reunion between to childhood friends, Sujin felt a twinge of sadness mix in with the joyful emotions filling her. Tears welled up in her eyes and she had no care to try and hold them back; not even caring if she got his shirt wet. She did not know what to feel, how to process the situation or even what to say to the man holding her.

“What’s wrong? Sujin you should be happy.”

Hongbin spoke and pulled her away from his shoulder to see the tears running down her cheeks, “Sujin?”

She looked down and wiped away her eyes, pulling out of his hold completely she remained sitting next to him on the bed and took his hand into her own.

“I’m sorry.”

He gave her a confused look while moving to make more room for her on the bed. “For what? You are not the first person to cry at a happy reunion. You are not even the first person to cry around me today.”

She shook her head, sniffling with tears still falling, “No, not for crying. I broke our promise. We promised each other when I moved that we would not forget each other and that we would keep in contact. I broke those promises. Well, I didn’t forget you completely, but I think I might have pushed thoughts of you to the back of my mind when I started taking harder classes and preparing to graduate early and then college, and residency. Just so many things started going on, you barely became a passing thought. I’m sorry.”

Hongbin gave her a small smile, “Then I need to be sorry too. I pushed you to the back of my mind as well you left and it time difference made it difficult to keep in touch and then I became a trainee. Like you there was just so much that was going, it was kind of easy to forget. I cannot be angry at you when I am guilty of breaking the same promise.”

She giggled, “We are both horrible friends.”

He laughed along with her, “Yeah, I guess we are. But good thing is, we have found each other again and this time we can make it work right? Not lose each other again?”

Her smile grew wider, “Of course. Even though you are hot shot idol with thousands of fan girls that love you. I don’t know how you are one big giant dork.”

Sujin stood from the bed laughing as Hongbin yelled at her, “I am not now nor ever have been a dork. Thank you very much!”

She turned around, now holding her not pad, looking at him with a raised eye brow and a knowing look. “Really Binnie? I have know you most of our early life, and I have seen videos of you with those other guys out there. Trust me, you are a dork.”

He could only glare at her, knowing that she made a good point. Then a look of shock came over his face, “You listen to VIXX?”

Sujin cheeks turned a light shade of red as she ducked her head down in attempt to avoid Hongbin’s gaze, “Guilty. I have listen to some of your albums, may have watched shows you were on, and tuned in to a few radio shows.”

Hongbin let out another wide smile, “You are a Starlight!”

Sujin could only roll her eyes at him, “See. Dork.” She took a deep and changed to topic of conversation, too embarrassed to talk about her being a fan of his, “Enough talk of that. And I think that is enough of a reunion for right now as well. I need to do my examination so that I can call your family and friends back in here. Any longer and I think that might just come barging in here.”

He knew that she had a point, but wanted to keep teasing her, and reconnecting. Honestly, he had forgotten all about the reason she was here, did not really care. He was just happy that she was there now. Instead of responding he nodded his head and let her go about what she needed to for her evaluation.

She asked him different questions such as level of discomfort, rating his pain on a scale of 1-10 at rest and while moving. She had him up and moving the best he could, then she was checking his knee and comparing it to the other. Sujin was very focused on the task at hand that she did not even notice that not once had Hongbin’s eyes left her. Just like when she first entered the room, his eyes followed her every movement. He was fascinated at how fluid her movements were and how into her work she was. It made him think about when they were younger and how she loved to help people and animals. If they were hurt she was there to take care of them.

Once Sujin was done with her examination, questioning, and taking notes she stood straight and flashed him an optimistic smile.

“So?” He questioned, worry etched on his face.

Sujin did not respond to him; only got up from the chair that she was sitting in and went over to the door to let in everyone. She stood back as they all filed in and going back to their original positions that they were in when she first arrive. The smile never fell from her face as she watched the group settle in.

When all eyes turned to her, full of hope and anxiety, did she began to speak.

“After my evaluation, I believe that the best option for Bin-Mr. Lee is to have knee replacement surgery. Typically this surgery is performed on those who are older and suffered years of osteoarthritis; but it can be done on those who have suffered trauma to the knee, such as Mr. Lee. Now there are two types of knee replacement surgery, partial and total; and I believe that in this case, after looking at the x-rays and the examination, this will be a total knee replacement. If there was not so much on the line with Mr. Lee’s career, then surgery right now would not be needed. The knee would heal, but it would not heal properly and that would cause a lot of pain and discomfort for him and later on down the road, he would possibly require surgery. Therefore I think it would be best to go ahead and have the surgery, go through physical therapy and Mr. Lee will be good as new.”

An air of relief filled the room, Mrs. Lee hugged Hongbin and kissed the side of his head and tears began to fall from her eyes.

His father, looked at Sujin and began asking questions about the surgery, which Sujin happily answered.

“What are the risks to go along with the surgery? How long will it take for my son to heal? How soon until he can get back on stage? Why type of physical therapy will he need? What are we to expect before, during, and after the surgery?”

Sujin held up her hand to silence the man, “Please, Mr. Lee, I will answer any and all questions, I gladly will, but just one at a time. You asked about risks? There are some possible complications or risks that can arise, like with all surgeries. However, given that Mr. Lee is young and in good health, I do not suspect that it will be all that much of a concern for him. But I will give you information that you can read over to prepare you for possible risks, as well as what to expect before, during, and after the surgery. I will even give you detailed information packet about how the surgery is performed. Everything that we will discuss pertaining to the surgery will be in the packet so you can review it, and I will provide you with my number so you can call if you have any questions leading up to the surgery or after.”

The rest of the day was spent answering any and all questions Hongbin’s family, manager, and members had.

As the days passed, Sujin spent most of her time at the Hospital with Hongbin, reconnecting since she did not have any serious appointments other than his. The behavior of the two did not go unnoticed by the others and they were quick to question him on why his doctor, Dr. Kang, was spending so much time with him, behaving in a clear non-professional manner towards him. Hongbin did not hesitate to admit to them that Sujin was actually a childhood friend of his that he had lost touch with.

Then came the day of the surgery and Sujin was sure to be there with Hongbin the whole time, easing his fears, and promising that she was going to take good care of him. When it was just them in the room, his parents left to go call family and friends and the nurses getting thing prepared to take him into the operating room, Sujin stood next to his side and held his hand. Her finger rubbed the back of his hand in a soothing manner, her eyes locked with his. She wasn’t sure if she was doing this to sooth him or herself, because at the moment she felt extremely nervous, more so than she should. Maybe because normally she does not have any kind of personal relationship with the patient she is about to operate on.

“You’ll be here when I wake up?” Hongbin asked in a pleading tone, his eyes reflecting that tone.

She tried to smile, but could only manage a half smile, “If you want me too I will be.”

He tightened his hold on her hand, silently asking her to be there to which she just nodded. In the short time that they had been reunited, her feeling for Hongbin and flourished and were even stronger than what they used to be when they were younger. Sujin would admit to herself only, that when they were younger, she had a schoolgirl crush on Hongbin. But now, in just a short time period, her feelings were even greater than just a simple schoolgirl crush.

Hongbin brought her hand up to his face and placed a light kiss on the back of her hand. Having her closer to him helped calm his nerves and he trusted her fully, though there was still a small part of him that was nervous about going into surgery. Which that had to be normal because even though Sujin had assured him that everything was going to go alright and he would be back on stage in no time, there was always a possibility that something goes wrong somewhere.

Sujin could read the anxiousness all over Hongbin’s face and with her free hand cupped his cheek, tracing it with her thumb. Placing a light kiss on his forehead she whispered, “You will be just fine.”

They locked eyes, every emotion they felt read through loud and clear, with such intensity that Sujin felt as if her heart was going to bust. His eyes were reflecting everything that she felt, and that scared her just a little considering that is was not that long ago they were reunited and that they have been apart for so long. Should they really be feeling these feeling so soon? Will they fade as soon as they came? What if they acted on these feelings too early and it doesn’t work, then they lose each other all over again, but for good?

Those questions terrified her and she quickly pulled away from Hongbin, clearing while trying to get rid of the blush that had crept up on her face. Without looking back at him and headed for the door, “I will see you in the operating room.”

Hongbin was confused about the sudden change in Sujin, but he was going to find out. Before she could leave completely he called out to her, “Sujin. After the surgery, when I am awake, we need to talk.”

She only nodded and walked out.

The surgery was a complete success with no complications during the surgery and Hongbin had zero problems with the anesthesia so he was awake about an hour after begin moved into the room, but Sujin was still not ready to talk to him just yet. Since he was going to be staying in the hospital at least 6 days before going home, the recommended time so they can keep an eye out for infection or any other complication to arise post-op, she figured she still had some time before she had to talk to him anything that was not related to him healing.

So to make sure they were not able to talk about anything personal, Sujin made sure to never go in his room when he was alone. Someone was always with them, whether it was his parents, sisters, members, or a fellow nurse, she did not care just as long as they were not alone.

This whole avoidance game that Sujin was playing was really starting to get under his skin. Since the members knew about him and Sujin, their past together, and his family happened to put the pieces together when they found old pictures of them together, he asked them of what he should do to get her to talk to him.

“Do you know what made her so jittery around you? Any idea of what brought it on?” His mother asked in a sympathetic voice. She could tell that her son was unset and really cared for this girl. Now that she remembered Sujin, his mother remembered how upset he was when she left and before then all the time they spent together. She wanted her son to be happy and apparently being with this Kang Sujin made him happy, even in the short time they have been back together.

Hongbin was not able to answer her as the door opened and in walked Sujin wearing her white doctor’s coat and carrying her clip board, a small smile on her face.

“Hello. I am just here for one last look at Mr. Lee before he leaves and goes home. You already have the papers on what to do when you get home and the first physical therapy appointment correct?”

Hongbin’s father nodded his head in response to which Sujin smiled even wider, “Great. Well I just want to do one last once over and then you can be on your way.”

She walked over the bed where Hongbin was laying avoiding his gave the whole time and went right to checking on his knee. While she was focused on his knee, Hongbin’s mom ushered his father and sisters out of the room to give the two some alone time to finally talk.

Hongbin kept his eyes locked on Sujin as she worked, doing the movements that she wanted him to, answering all her question, but never taking his eyes off of her.

She could feel him following her every move, burning a hole into the side of her head; but she just could not seem to bring herself to actually look him in the eye. She was still afraid to have that talk, because she did not know what to say or what to expect him to say. She was not good in situations like this.

“Sujin, please look at me.” His voice pleading, hating that she refused to look at him and now she had her back to him. It hurt that she was avoiding him like this.

Sujin could her the hurt in his voice, breaking her heart that she was the cause of him being upset. She took a deep breath and finally turned around and for the first time meeting his big, emotion-filled, velvety eyes. She could not place all the emotions that she read in his eyes, but the one that ready through loud and clear was the one that scared her the most.

“Hongbin….I….”

He held his hand out to her, beckoning to him, “Come here.”

Sujin did not fight, she instantly walked closer to him, taking his had so that he could pull her onto the bed with him. He held her close to him so that she was unable to pull away and leave before he got to talk to her.

“Why have you been avoiding me? And do not try to deny it.”

His voice was firm, yet taut, letting her know that he was just as nervous as she was. She released a shaky breath, resting her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat under her ear.

“I was scared. I have so many questions running through my head and I do not know how to handle or deal with these kinds of emotions I get when I am around you. They are stronger and more confusing than I have ever dealt with before and it scares me.”

Hongbin did not know how to respond to her. He had been thinking the worse, that she was avoiding him because she did not feel the same as he did and that he had come off too strongly making her pull away from him. When in fact she felt the exact same way as him. A wide smile formed on Hongbin’s face, his dimples coming out in full force and he did not even try to hide the smile. He knew that he could not let her know that he was smiling when it was obvious that she was not feeling as happy at the moment as he was.

“What kind of questions is going through the pretty head of yours that is making you scared?”

Sujin could not help the small smile that tugged at her lips as she noted the flirty tone in his voice. His hand ran through her hair to ease the tension in her body which caused her to relax into him more, cuddling closer to his side. She could tell he had his dimple smile on his face from her admitting that she had feeling for him, but she was happy that he was at least trying to ease her worries before he focused on her confession too much.

“I’m scared that because we just got reconnected, that if we rush into thing by acting on our feeling too soon that things will die out just as quickly, and I do not want that. I just got you back Hongbin. I do not want to lose you again, and it be for good.”

That confession made the smile instantly fall from Hongbin’s face. He had not thought about that, he did not want to think about something like that. It was just too negative for something that was supposed to be happy. And honestly, he did not know how to answer that. Maybe they could be going a little too fast with all these new emotions rising up so soon after they were reconnected. But for him, and he was pretty sure for her too, these feelings had always been there; they were just stronger now that they were older.

He placed a light kiss on the top of her head, making her turn so that she could look in the face but remain laying on his chest. Hongbin looked down at her, locking eyes with here,

“So we do not move s fast as you think we might be. I know that we just found each other again, but Sujin, I have had feeling for you every since we were young and I didn’t think that girls were icky.”

Sujin laughed at him, feeling her heart speed up at his confession for having liked her since they were young. A light blush crossed her cheeks, “I used to have a slight school girl crush on you as well when we were in middle school.”

His hand cupped her cheek, pulling her face up to his and when the tip of their nosed were just barely touching, Hongbin tilted his head slightly to press his lips against Sujin’s in a sweet, innocent kiss. Her arms found their way around his neck, kissing him back without hesitation. Hongbin ran his hand down her sides, grasping her waist to pull her closer to him, but the kiss never went past anything more that innocent.

Slowly, Sujin pulled back from the kiss in need of air. Her forehead resting against his eyes still closed, trying to process what had just happened.

“Umm….”

She bit her bottom lip and sat back on the bed, facing him, her cheeks red for a number of reasons. He laughed at her, liking see her for flustered and not knowing what to say; gave him a little boost to his ego.

“Look, I have what, at least 3 months, before I am even close to being at full function in my knee? Then I have even longer getting back to being ready to go back on stage. Let’s use that time to really get to know each other again. And when we feel we are ready, and not rushing it, we can take the next step in a relationship, but only when you feel ready. Just talk to me please. No more avoiding me please if you get scared or have a problem. If I have a problem then I will talk to you. That is the only way we are going to be able to make this work. Relationship or friendship either one. Alright?”

After a moment of thinking, Sujin smiled that smile that always seemed to make his heart race, nodding her head in understanding. She had nothing more to say, instead, she leaned in again, connecting her lips to his.

This was her way of letting him know that she was happy to go slow and get to know each other all over again, but that did not rule out an occasional make-out session. And he was completely alright with that.

Despite the circumstances that they were reunited under, both Hongbin and Sujin were happy to finally be together and were never going to let go ever again.
