Chapter Twenty

The Moment We Miss Each Other

Yoseob sat quietly at the passenger seat of the car as he stared out of the car’s window blankly. There were shop lots at the other side of the road and most of the shops were closed. It was the first day of the year after all, people were going back to their hometown and spent times with their families. The pavements were almost empty as well.

However, Yoseob could not see all those trivial matters as his mind was occupied with something else. He kept thinking about the dreams that he had been having lately. He knew the hints for his real wish were somewhere in the dream.

I promise? He thought since those words were the one that he could decipher properly. His real wish must be related to a promise with someone. That someone must be the middle-aged woman. Yoseob frowned, his eyebrows were puckered as he was seriously thinking, trying to solve the mystery promise he had with that woman.

“Yoseobie,”

The call pulled Yoseob out of his thought. Naturally, he turned his head to the driver, who was now looking at him as well.

“Are you nervous?” Junhyung asked, most probably worried. He noticed how Yoseob was very quiet in today’s drive. He usually would make joke, teasing him, and talking about anything that attracted his interest. Junhyung shifted his attention on the road, focusing on driving as he was speeding.

Yoseob shook his head. “No,” Yoseb was reminded of Junhyung’s offer this morning to bring his to a place. Yoseob suddenly wondered, what was the place look like? What kind of place was it? Only one person could answer those question now. Yoseob instantly turned to Junhyung with his widened curious eyes. “Why? Should I be nervous? Is it somewhere dangerous?”

Junhyung turned to Yoseob and saw those adorable round eyes were looking at him inquisitively. Junhyung chuckled as he turned back to the road. He would like to stare at those wonderful charming eyes longer but his current situation would not allow him to do that. “No, I am just wondering since you are quiet today,” Junhyung uttered.

Yoseob flattened his lips, humming as he was thinking on either he could tell Junhyung about his dream or not. His instinct was telling him to never tell the older guy yet he really wanted Junhyung to know. Yoseob ended the arguments in his mind with a heavy sigh blew out of his mouth.

“Nothing,” Yoseob managed to utter although it was obvious he was swallowing those words.

Junhyung knew something was wrong when he heard Yoseob’s answer. Yoseob’s nothing meant there was something that bothered him. Junhyung just hoped it was not something serious as the smaller could be an overthinker sometimes. He thought too much that he could even wonder why ants were small.

The adorable-looking man turned back to the window, watching the scenery outside of the transparent glass wall. Then, he noticed how familiar the place was to him. Those houses, roads, shops, signboards and even the street lamps were familiar.  Immediately, he turned to Junhyung. “Hyung,” he called. There a mixture of happiness and sadness in his tone of voice.

The corners of Junhyung lips instantly turned up as he smiled, satisfied with the response given by Yoseob. Junhyung kept quiet, he decided not to say anything.

**********************************************************************************

Junhyung pressed the bell, as he stood in front of a landed house, waiting. It was not a big house yet it was not small as well. It was an average size of house that usually owned by the middle income earner 10 years ago.

Yoseob bit his lower lip, nervous. He was not sure what to expect. It had been five years since his death. Would his family be okay? How was his mother? How about his sister? He wondered if she had married or not? How about his father? Did they still travel together? The small head of him wondered.

Junhyung noticed Yoseob’s anxious expression. He smiled warmly, assuring the younger guy that it would be okay. He gently held the other guy’s cold hand.

The gate was opened, revealing a young woman in Hanbok, welcoming them. “Junhyung-ah, come in,” she greeted as she opened the gate fully, as a sign of inviting the guest to step into the house.

“Noona,”

Junhyung heard the soft voice calling his sister. “Anyeong, Happy New Year,” Junhyung managed to greet even he was a bit distracted with Yoseob presence.

“She aged a bit,” the younger guy commented, a bit harsh. “But I am so glad to meet her,” he smiled, happily. Of course, he was happy. He got the chance to meet his family once again although they would never see him. He did feel bad regarding that matter but there was nothing he could do. Yoseob was thankful enough that he could at least saw them. Now, he was gladded that at least his Noona looked cheerful and smiley.

Junhyung was trying his best not to response to Yoseob’s comment. Thankfully, he just ended up with a smile across his face.

“Omma,” Yoseob excitedly called when he saw his mother stood at the front door. She was also wearing a Hanbok. She obviously stood there to greet Junhyung. “She still looks pretty,” Yoseob commented but his tone sounded sullen. It seemed like she had lost quiet a lot of weight. She lost those chubby cheeks as her cheekbones were so obvious now.

Junhyung could not help to turn to Yoseob as he heard the change in Yoseob’s voice. He tried to smile as he tightened the hand hold.

**********************************************************************************

Both of them spent quite some times in Yoseob parents’ house. They started the New Year celebration with the bow to the elders which were obviously Yoseob’s parents. Then, they spent time conversing and eating New Year dishes.

“How was it?” Junhyung asked, trying his best not looking at Yoseob because he scared he would stare too long at the adorable guy which was now wearing a baby blue Hanbok.

“It was fun. I am so glad that everyone is happy,” Yoseob replied, still smiling from the excitement he had that day. “They even burned Hanbok for me every year. I am so happy to know that I actually have clothes worth a large wardrobe room,”

“Too bad I can’t see them,” Junhyung grimaced. He did not actually feel bad about it. Although, having the access to a ghost mysterious wardrobe would be interesting. He just wanted to be cared by Yoseob.

“I will wear a different one everyday,” Yoseob excitedly answered, looking at Junhyung with his thrilled round sparkling eyes. He seemed more eager about his newly found wardrobe instead of considering that Junhyung was feeling a bit left out.

Junhyung chuckled. Watching the jovial excited Yoseob amused him.

Then, the space was suddenly silent. Yoseob was no longer talking about the type of clothes he found in his secret wardrobe. Junhyung, being the passive type of person, would rarely do the talking. However, it was not a suffocating silent. It was a comfortable and serenely silent that they both usually enjoyed.

“So, do you do this every year?” a question suddenly broke the silent.

The question sounded very grimed and Junhyung became worried that it came out from the usually full of beans Yang Yoseob. He gulped, trying to calm himself before he answered. “Yeah,”

Yoseob nodded down, as his fingers played with the hem of his new Hanbok. He felt bad suddenly. Junhyung did not need to do that but he did. Junhyung was not an official family member of Yang Yoseob except that they were having a romantic relationship. Junhyung did not even need to stay in the relationship after his death but he did. Yoseob suddenly felt so guilty. He did not deserve all these treatments from Yong Junhyung. That guy should have had his own life, living his own adventure instead of focusing on the dead Yang Yoseob.

Yoseob wanted to apologize but it did not sound right. Yoseob bit his lower lip, not hiding the fact that he felt guilty. After much thought, he uttered. “Thanks,”

Junhyung noticed the sullen tone in Yoseob’s voice.  He turned to Yoseob and found the younger was nodding, hiding his expression. “Hey,” Junhyung started, trying to comfort the depressed person. “I did it cause I like it. I love your family. They are always a ball of joyous,”

Yoseob chuckled when he heard how Junhyung described his family. “Well, I think I inherit a bit of that ‘ball of joyous’,”

No, you took over lots of brightness. Junhyung thought as he beamed.

“Don’t you visit your mom?” Yoseob asked, curious. He was too happy to be able to meet his family that he forgot about Junhyung’s family. It was New Year and Junhyung was supposed to spend times with his own family not with someone else’s.

“I will. Tomorrow,” Junhyung answered monotonously. Not that he hated meeting his mother but she always did the nagging especially about how he lived. Plus, during the first day of the new year, his mother’s house were full of close relatives that came from outside of Seoul. He hated the crowds, the questions that would be asked by all those aunties and uncles.

“Make sure you go and visit her. I’m sure she misses you so much,”

Junhyung nodded, being obedient.

**********************************************************************************

Yoseob stayed home alone as Junhyung was out, visiting his mother. Yoseob did not want to be a burden to Junhyung. Yoseob knew he would not sit still and Junhyung would have a hard time controlling him and responding to him. So, the ‘ball of joyous’ Yang Yoseob decided to stay home.

Suddenly, his phone sounded. A message came in. It was from Doojoon sent to Beast conversation group.

Doojoonie:
I have told Papa Hong that we want to launch an album. He asked us to make it properly since it had been five years since the last one. He asked if possible, try to suit the songs to Spring season since the season will start next month and Hyuna will be having a comeback in this month.

Kiki:
But, most of the songs we have composed are sad ballads.

Dongni:
I think it will be okay. We always have a comeback with ballad. We release 12.30 during summer, remember?

*I agree. I think it will be fine.

Doojoonie:
Where is Junhyung? He is the producer.

*He went to visit his mom for new year.

Doojoonie:
Hyunseung? Your thoughts?

Seungie:
I am okay with anything.
