Chapter 11: Forgiveness

Waiting for You (당신을 기다리는)

You haven't spoken to Jongdae in over a week. It's Friday. It's a day where you and Jongdae would usually complete all of the household chores that were necessary. But ever since you kicked Jongdae out, you've been doing things on your own. You had no choice.

You open your fridge and realize that the only contents inside were a half dozen eggs and a bottle of unopened beer. You pout, close the fridge and begin to make a list of items you need to buy. Once the list was completed, you grab your keys and head out the door, making your way towards the supermarket.

Once you arrive at the super market, you grab yourself a shopping cart. You have a variety of foods to buy, there's no way you can carry it all by yourself. A half hour later, you're only half way done your list. And your cart is nearly full. You sigh. You begin to wonder how Jongdae does these kinds of things so well. You brush the thought away and continue to shop. As you're pushing you cart, your eyes are set on your list. You are mentally crossing off the items you've retrieved, not paying attention to the view ahead. Just then, you hear a crashing noise and your body jerks forward a bit.

"AH! Mianhaeyo." You bow multiple times. How embarassing.

"Lily?" You hear a voice across from you.

You heart stops for a split second. "J-Jongdae...Hi."

"Annyeong, Lily. How have you been?" He presents a soft smile and straightens his shopping cart.

"I've been...good." You almost hesitate. "And you? I thought you left for China."

"Jal jinaeyo, gomawoyo. Aniyo, I'm staying at a hotel in the city." He laughs a bit.

"I see..."

Jongdae smiles at the sight of your over flowing cart. "That's quite a load you're buying, Lily."

"O-Oh, this? Yea, my cart's getting pretty heavy." You glace at the food items inside your cart and sigh.

"Did you walk here, Lily?" You nod. "Jinjja? Hmm, I've completed my errands and I brought my car. Here, let me take you home."

You present a worried look. Would this really be a good idea? You decide to accept Jongdae's offer.

After he loads your bags into the trunk of his car, he helps you into the passenger seat. A simple gesture, such as this, couldn't help but make you smile.

The car ride home was quiet at first. You didn't enjoy the awkward aura. So you decided to break the silence.

"So, Jongdae...you're staying at a hotel right now?"

He takes his eyes off the road for a few seconds to make eye contact with you. He smiles and nods. "It's not the best place, but it's better than nothing." You're both quiet after that. Within a couple of minutes, reach your house. He places the car into park and walks out. He takes your bags and places them across from the front door.

"T-Thank you, Jongdae." You say almost sympathetically. You notice Jongdae's facial features have significantly changed. His skin looks pale, and his eyes filled with fatigue. "J-Jongdae, would you like to...come in?" You show a sweet smile as you unlock the door.

"Would that be alright?" Jongdae looks almost shocked at your offer.

"I'm not doing much. Plus, it's rush hour, the streets leading to the city are filled with traffic. It's fine." He nods and carries your grocery bags into the kitchen. You offer him a seat in the living room and you begin to put away the groceries. A few minutes later, you walk into the living room, offer Jongdae the cold beer from your fridge and take a seat on the sofa across from him. He hesitates, but kindly takes it. He takes a small whip of the drink and places the bottle on a coaster.

"Thank you...for helping me with my bags." You smile, yet sit still.

"It's not a problem at all. I'm glad I could help." Jongdae gives you an apologetic look. You know he's filled with regret, so you decide to confront him.

"Jongdae, about what happened-"

"I'm sorry, Lily." He looks away.

"Oppa, I know you are." You walk over to the couch he's sitting on, and take a seat beside him. "I'm sorry for not understanding you. I've been doing a lot of thinking these past couple of days. I understand that you were only trying to look out for me, as any good friend should. I appreciate your consideration, Jongdae, I really do. I'm...sorry." You place your hand on top of his. His skin is cold. You glance at Jongdae. His face is filled with despair and regrets. You place a hand on the side of Jongdae's cheek. Your fingertips touch his forehead and you discover that his temperature is high.

"Jongdae, you're burning up." Your face displays an almost shocked looked. He looked fine, it's hard to believe that he could have caught something.

"O-Oh? It's nothing. I'm fine." He brushes your thought away. Even though you were still a little bitter about the actions that Jongdae has recently committed, you still care for his wellbeing. Luckily, you are stocked up on medicines, tea and your steamer is working perfectly fine. You get a better feel of his forehead and conclude that he is coming down with some sort of sickness.

"No, you've caught something." At first you hesitate at this thought, "Jongdae, I'd...I'd like you to come back and stay here."

He smiles and pulls you close for a warm embrace.. This was something you've truly missed.
