Key moments in love

Woohyun's mistake

Woohyun was sat outside taking in the fresh air whilst Key was inside apolgising to the waiter and paying for their drinks.

It occured to Woohyun now that he hadn't eaten in over a day. Yesterday he skipped breakfast in his excitement and he'd skipped their dinner around the bonfire too. Then this morning he hadn't eaten anything either and at this point in time his drink was still untouched. A lack of food, a lack of sleep and the onslaught of a panic attack was a combination that would probably make most people sick.

Key came out with their drinks in take away containers, looking very concerned.

"Are you okay?!"

Woohyun nodded, "Sorry about that."

Key shook his head, "don't apologise, I should apologise for causing you to vomitt! Although, to be fair, it wasn't a reaction I had thought would happen..."

Woohyun ducked his head and apologised again. Key just rolled his eyes and handed him his frappe.

"Although I tried not to look, I did see your vomitt and by the looks of things you haven't eaten anything in awhile, so drink this and once you're feeling a bit better we'll go get you some food, okay?" Woohyun smiled at Key. He could be such a mother hen sometimes.

They sat in silence for awhile whilst Woohyun slowly drunk his frappe. The cold drink was helping to not only fill him up but also calm him a little. When he had drunk about half of it he looked over at Key who had been watching him intently, making sure he was drinking the drink and also that he wasn't going to throw up again.

Woohyun took a deep breath but before he could speak Key interrupted him.

"We don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

Woohyun paused but then shook his head, "no, I think I'd rather get it all out now."

Key gave him an apprehensive look and Woohyun laughed, realising what Key was thinking. "I'm not going to vomitt again, I promise."

Key didn't look convinced but gestured for him to continue what he was saying anyway. Woohyun just smiled at the younger.

"What makes you think I'm in lo..." Woohyun trailed off a little at the word, feeling his stomach clench. He took a deep breath and finished his sentence, "in love with Sunggyu? Like what did I say that made you come to that conclusion?"

Key eyed him, having noted Woohyun's struggle to say 'love'. "Am I wrong?"

Woohyun stared at him, not expecting the question at all. "I-" He started and then stopped.

He stared at his frappe thinking about how Sunggyu made him feel, was it love? He loved him as a friend and he definitely had romantic feelings for him too. But was he in love? Was he in love with Sunggyu? He didn't want to be but that didn't mean he wasn't...

"I don't know," he finally responded to Key, "I've never been in love before, I don't have much to go off."

Key smiled, "Well, if it helps at all I realised that I had fallen in love with Jonghyun because I realised that my feelings had grown. That somehow, I felt even more for him than I had before, that I would do anything to make him happy and that he meant everything to me. But it's harder with you, you spend all your time trying to pretend your feelings aren't there, it would be hard for you to notice that they've grown."

Woohyun let what Key had said sink in for a bit, sipping his drink for a minute. "It's because I'm suddenly having a whole lot more trouble being around him isn't it? You think I can't handle it anymore because my feelings have gotten stronger."

Key was surprised by the observation but he nodded. There was silence between them again until Key spoke up again.

"Your upset doesn't stem from him either, you seem to be only upset about your own actions because you think they are of detriment to Sunggyu but when it comes to Sunggyu himself the only negative feelings he brings are jealousy. He still makes you happier than any other person."

Woohyun swallowed the last of the frappe and stared at the empty container as he spoke, "say you are right, what do I do with that information? How does acknowledging that help anything or anyone?"

Key sighed, "it doesn't really. But being honest with yourself might be a good thing. Suppressing everything doesn't seem to be helping anything so maybe you need to try a different approach."

Woohyun was silent for awhile but just as Key was about to say something more, he sighed and stood. "Let's go get some food." Key gave him a worried look but Woohyun just smiled, "I just need some food, I'm hungry now that I've finished this." he shook the empty container infront of Key and Key rolled his eyes.

"Alright, alright, let's go then."

                                                                   *                                                  *                                       *

"We have to catch up again soon!" Key hugged Woohyun tighter as he said this.

Woohyun smiled at the younger's cuteness, "we will, the next time our schedules line up I promise we'll catch up okay?"

Key nodded into Woohyun's shoulder before pulling away from the hug, "call me anytime you need me okay? I don't want you bottling everything up like you have been, okay?"

Woohyun just smiled and nodded, "thanks for today, I really appreciated it."

Key smiled back, "I'm glad to hear that. Although I'm not surprised, it was a day with me after all!"

Woohyun rolled his eyes at the younger's teasing and shoved him slightly, "don't make me regret being nice to you."

Key poked out his tongue at the older boy and then waved, "I really should go. It was nice to see you again Woohyun, stay well okay?"

Woohyun smiled and waved back, "Same to you, thanks again for everything."

Key just nodded and headed over to the car where the rest of SHINee were waiting. Woohyun could see Jonghyun glaring at him from inside the car and Woohyun couldn't help but laugh a little. Him and Jonghyun got along well except for the fact that he was constantly jealous of any skinship between him and his boyfriend. Even though he knew that there were no romantic feelings there, he was seemingly a bit of the jealous type, which always amused Woohyun.

He stood and waved until the car was out of sight and then he sighed and pulled out his phone. It was just after 5:30. He guessed he may as well text Dongwoo and check where they were before he headed back to the house.

While he waited for a reply he wandered around. He was in the main shopping area of the town, no surprise that Key had led him there. The shopping area wasn't very large though because it was a small town. The shops that were there were very quaint and small which was nice but meant that they didn't occupy his time for long. After half an hour he'd run out of shops to look into and Dongwoo still had not replied. He was about to start heading back when he was saw Myungsoo a little further down the street, looking in a shop window. He jogged to catch up to him and as he got closer he realised Dongwoo, Hoya, Sungjong and Sungyeol were there too. Sunggyu was nowhere to be seen.

"Hey" he said as reached them. All four of them turned around to look at him in shock, not expecting him to be there.

"Oh hey! How was Key?" Myungsoo asked, recovering from the surprise first.

"Good thanks," Woohyun replied, smiling at the visual, "how are you guys?"

"I'm trying to convince Soo here to buy me stuff but he's being a tight ." Sungjong whined.

"Escape while you still can" Sungyeol advised himq quitely but not quitely enough as Sungjong heard him and hit him on the arm.

Woohyun laughed, "I am not getting involved in this arguement," he turned to Dongwoo and Hoya.

"I texted you dumb dino, learn to check your phone more!" He teased the rapper.

"Sorry! I didn't feel it go off." Dongwoo apologised

Woohyun clicked his tongue, "excuses excuses."

Dongwoo rolled his eyes at the vocal's teasing. Woohyun felt uncomfortable suddenly; the two of them were being weird. They were...tense. He was about to ask what was wrong when Myungsoo interrupted.

"Can't we leave those two and go back? It's getting dark and it looks like it's going to rain... Sunggyu can take care of himself."

"You just want to go back so that you don't have to buy me stuff!' Sungjong protested. Myungsoo nodded, past the point of caring. Sungjong made an unpleasant noise at this and hit the visual on the arm, now sulking.

"This is why no one wants to buy you stuff Sungjong," Sungyeol huffed. Sungjong gave him a glare, crossing his arms across his chest.

But Woohyun didn't notice any of this. Actually he'd stopped listening to anything a little while ago. "Sorry, did you say those two? Who's Sunggyu with?"

He heard Dongwoo's sharp intake of breath at the question. Myungsoo on the other hand didn't think anything of the question.

"Oh, he met this girl down the street today, she's a fan I think but they've been hanging out all day." He suddenly looked behind Woohyun and pointed, "there they are actually! Thank god!"

Woohyun didn't want to turn around but his body did it without consent and next thing he knew he was staring at Sunggyu walking down the street with a girl, chatting and laughing. She was so pretty, her brown hair was long and hung perfectly around her face. She was skinny but not too skinny and she was the perfect height, not too short not too tall. She had perfect teeth and beautiful eyes.

And she was with Sunggyu.

Just as Woohyun was about to turn and run, Sunggyu looked up and made eye contact with him but before he could say anything Woohyun had his heels and sprinted the other way.

He heard Dongwoo and Hoya calling him but he didn't stop.

Not even when Sunggyu's voice joined in did he stop.

He didn't have any clue where he was headed and he couldn't care less.

He just kept sprinting, wanting to get away from them.

From Sunggyu.

From the girl.

And maybe if he ran far enough he could even get away from himself.

As he ran the sun was beginning to set and it began to rain. The dark and cold night was befitting to Woohyun at this point in time. He felt the road turn to mud under his feet as he hit a dirt track. He could feel his phone buzzing in his pocket but he ignored everything, refusing to stop running. He never wanted to stop running. The running meant he couldn't think. It meant he couldn't cry. He took only te breaths he needed and so he couldn't panic. He was fine as long as he didn't stop.

But then he tripped.

He hit the ground hard, momentarily winding himself. He laid there, trying to get his breath back as the rain began to fall harder, soaking him and the ground beneath him. He could feel the mud on his skin and his clothes but he couldn't bring himself to care. He rolled over onto his side as his breath return and he pulled his legs up to his chest, trying to fight the feeling of panic and sadness that were now seeping into him. He was too tired to keep running, he was too tired to even get up and he could feel himself beginning to cry.

Stop crying.

All you do is cry you idiot.

Get over it.

What, did you think he'd just never go out with anyone again because of you?

He doesn't like you the way you like him, what do you expect?

You're so selfish, no wonder he doesn't like you.

Look at you, do you think you deserve to be able to say you love him?

Pathetic.

The thoughts attacked Woohyun and he couldn't get them to stop. He deserved this. All he did was make Sunggyu's life hard, why shouldn't he be with someone else?

Exactly. You never deserved someone like Sunggyu anyway.

He's so much better than you.

He's so talented and kind.

Why couldn't you have just been satisfied with his friendship?

You're so greedy.

Look at you.

You deserve this.

It's all your own fault.

Suddenly he felt a pair of arms lift him up into a sitting position. The person's arms then wound themselves around him, sitting him between their legs as they held him close. Woohyun knew who it was and he wanted to fight him off and ran further away but the arms held him tightly and Woohyun had no energy left to fight with. Instead his head fell back into Sunggyu's shoulder, his face pressed against his neck and all he could manage to say was "I'm so sorry Gyu."

At those words Sunggyu tightened his grip on the boy further but he didn't reply and Woohyun slowly felt himself drifitng off to sleep.

When Woohyun woke up again, he was being carried bridal style towards the house they were staying in. He could see the house in the distance, still at least a ten minute walk away. He wondered how long Sunggyu had been carrying him for.

"Uh, Gyu, you can put me down, I'll walk the rest of the way." Sunggyu looked down, surprised that he was awake.

"I don't mind Woo, I can carry you the rest of the way if you don't feel good." He looked concerned which made Woohyun feel guilty. He really wished Sunggyu had not been the one to find him.

"I'm fine, let me walk." He insisted, giving him a smile to try to prove that he was indeed fine.

Sunggyu looked apprehensive but set him down anyway, keeping an arm around him to make sure he didn't fall over. It took Woohyun a minute to stabilise himself but once he got his footing he was fine. He smiled at Sunggyu, "I'm fine, you can move your arm now."

Sunggyu ignored him and began to walk, his arm still around Woohyun's waist. Woohyun would normally have protested but he didn't really feel like he was in a position to argue at this point in time.

They walked in silence towards the house. Woohyun could feel Sunggyu glancing at him occasionally, checking that he was alright, but Woohyun couldn't bring himself to make eye contact with the leader. He was ashamed of his actions and he didn't want to face Sunggyu yet.

"When we get there I want you to have a shower straight away, make it hot and stay in there until the hot water runs out, then dry and dress as fast as you can and get into bed. Hopefully you wont get too sick that way." Woohyun nodded at the leader's words but still didn't look at him.

"What about you though? You'll get sick too if you don't have a hot shower." Woohyun spoke quitely.

"Don't worry about me. I'll have a quick shower in Hoya and Dongwoo's bathroom." Sunggyu assured him, giving his waist a squeeze. Woohyun nodded but said nothing else.

Neither of them spoke again until they reached the house and then Sunggyu stopped and turned, facing the younger. Woohyun continued to avoid his gaze as he stared at the ground. "We're going to have to talk at some point Woo, for now just please go shower and dress like I asked you to. I really don't want you to get sick." Woohyun nodded, eyes still on the ground and he heard Sunggyu sigh and unlock the door.

Woohyun walked straight to the bedroom, grabbing his bag and heading into the bathroom. He locked the door behind him and looked in the mirror, then instantly rergretted his decision. He looked worse than he ever had before, his lips were slightly purple, his eyes were swollen and his nose was bright red. He had mud all through his hair and on his face and clothes. And he was shaking slightly.

He turned away from the mirror and turned the shower on, stripping while the shower heated up.

He didn't realise how cold he was until the hot water hit his skin. He stood there for awhile, just trying to warm himself first. When he could feel his fingers again he began to wash the mud off himself, and wash his hair. He focused on his actions, trying not to let any other thoughts enter his mind but that of getting rid of the mud, of the hot water on his skin and of washing his hair.

When he felt water begin to go cold he got out of the shower. He rummaged around in his bag for underwear, a hoodie and trackie pants. He made sure to thoroughly dry himself before he got dressed and then he blow dried his hair. He then wrapped his wet and muddy clothes, his phone still in the pocket of his jeans, in one of the towels he had used and placed it to the side. He'd deal with that in the morning.

Once he was satisfied that he was all dry, he grabbed the rest of his things and came out of the bathroom. The bedroom was empty much to his relief and so he dumped his stuff down and got straight into bed. Just as he pulled up the blankets, Sunggyu walked in. Woohyun shut his eyes and laid very still, hoping Sunggyu would think he was asleep.

He heard him walking over to his bed and he tried to keep his breathing slow and steady as if he were asleep.

"I know you're not asleep Woo." Woohyun stayed as he was, thinking that maybe Sunggyu was just guessing. There was silence for awhile and Woohyun was beginning to think that maybe Sunggyu had gone to bed when suddenly he felt the sheets lift up and the bed dip.

Woohyun opened his eyes in surprise. Sunggyu had laid down beside him under the covers. He was on his side facing Woohyun and although there was a fairly large gap between them, Woohyun swore he could feel an electric current between them.

"So you are awake," Sunggyu smiled at Woohyun and Woohyun blushed slightly. He hoped it was too dark for Sunggyu to notice that.

They lie there facing each other in slinece for a minute.

"How was your day with Key?" Sunggyu asked, breaking the silence again.

"It was good" was all Woohyun could manage to say and even in that short sentence his voice cracked. He couldn't help but think of his conversation about whether or not he was in love with Sunggyu and it was making it very hard for him to respond like a normal person.

"Did something happen?" the concern was clear in Sunggyu's voice and Woohyun closed his eyes so that he wouldn't have to look at him.

"No." His voice cracked again and he silently cursed himself for it.

Silence enveloped them again and Woohyun kept his eyes closed. After a few minutes, Woohyun slowly opened his eyes, thinking maybe Sunggyu had fallen asleep. He was met by a very worried look, that was most definitely not asleep. He averted his eyes.

"How about you tell me what happened with Key after I explain myself?" Sunggyu offered.

When Woohyun didn't respond he continued anyway.

"She's a fan and because it's such a small town I offered to spend the day with her because she seemed quite geniunely down and I thought it'd be a nice thing to do, especially since normally it qouldn't be possible as other people would demand the same." He paused and Woohyun was about to roll over and go to sleep when he spoke again. "I don't feel anything for her. She was a nice fan but nothing else. I'm sorry for giving you the wrong idea and for making you so upset, I really didn't intend to but even so, I really am so sorry."

Woohyun finally looked back at Sunggyu, shaking his head. "Don't apologise, you did nothing wrong."

Sunggyu looked like he was going to argue but then he seemed to decide against it. "What happened with Key?"

Woohyun looked away again. "Nothing."

Suddenly he felt Sunggyu's had come up to the side of his face. He looked back at the older. He was watching him with a concerned expression on his face, but at the same time it was extremely understanding. Woohyun closed his eyes, trying to decide whether or not to tell Sunggyu the truth. Sunggyu's hand was making him feel so much calmer as it gently his hair but he still didn't dare open his eyes.

"Key and I discussed a lot of things and he suggested that maybe something was the case and I don't really want it to be but I think it may be." Woohyun blurted out, his eyes still closed.

Sunggyu continued to his hair and face gently. "What did he suggest?"

Woohyun stayed silent for awhile, unsure of whether or not he could say it. His breathing was becoming slightly erratic as he struggled to decide and he focused on Sunggyu's of his hair and face.

Finally he took a deep breath and spoke. "That I'm in love with you."

Sunggyu's didn't falter and he seemed not to react at all. After a pause he aksed, "what made him think that?"

"I-" Woohyun stopped. "It's just that. That I find it harder than before to be around you without wanting to do....romantic things with you. He thinks that it might be because my feelings have grown from a crush into love." He paused for a minute, trying to muster up the courage to say the rest. He took yet another deep breath and then blurted it out.

"And I think he might be right."

Sunggyu stopped his face and hair and for a minute neither of them spoke or moved.

Then Sunggyu pulled Woohyun into a hug. Woohyun stiffened at first, unsure of what the hug meant and how he was meant to react and for a minute they just laid there like that, in silence.

"I'm so sorry Woohyun."

The words hit Woohyun hard and it felt like his heart was shattering into a million pieces. He felt Sunggyu's arm squeeze him and he realised that he was sobbing. He tried to stop the sobs but they kept escaping. Sunggyu began to rub circles in his back to try and soothe him.

"Please don't cry Woo," he whispered, "just sleep. I'll be right here in the morning, I promise."

Woohyun buried his face in Sunggyu's chest and tried to calm himself. The feeling of Sunggyu rubbing circles on his back slowly began to soothe him and because he was exhausted he could feel himself falling asleep. He was almost asleep when he heard Sunggyu whisper to him.

"Sleep peacefully Woohyun, I'm so sorry for everything."
