Myungsoo's lips molded themselves around Sungyeol's, and when he felt the boy responding to the kiss, leaning into him so that he was no longer sure where he ended, and Sungyeol started, Myungsoo couldn't hold back anymore. Not even the fear of rejection once again could deter him. Myungsoo's hands entangled themselves in Sungyeol's hair at the top of his neck, pressing the boy closer to him, deepening their kiss. He moved his hands through the tangle, reaching Sungyeol's jaw, it achingly slow. Myungsoo didn't want to move his hand too fast--he was afraid that this would be the only time that he could memorise every tiny detail about Sungyeol's face, and he wanted to be thorough. His right index finger dipped into the hollow below Sungyeol's jaw, then moved up to his earlobe to be joined by his thumb, tracing gently down the boy's perfect face, tilting his head slowly, so that Myungsoo had greater access to Sungyeol's mouth. The knuckle of his third finger outlined Sungyeol's bottom lip that moved in their kiss, and Myungsoo wanted to savour how soft and warm it felt under his touch. In fact, Myungsoo wanted to pause time right at that exact, perfect moment. He had Sungyeol in his arms, and he didn't need anything else. Myungsoo's right hand curved upwards to cup Sungyeol's face, thumb his cheek tenderly. Myungsoo wanted to hold the boy there forever.

But he couldn't, and he knew it. The boys broke apart, breathless. Myungsoo forced himself to look Sungyeol in the eye. If he kept avoiding the issue, nothing would happen, his longing wouldn't ever be solved. If Sungyeol was disgusted by him, so be it. At least he wouldn't have to die wondering--he could simply hold onto the amazing memory of having kissed Sungyeol. Twice.

Myungsoo placed a hand over his heart that was acting as if it were trying to beat its way out of his ribcage (Myungsoo knew where it wanted to be--with the boy in front of him). He shut his eyes for a split second, and in that instant, he remembered the pain of rejection. Then he thought of Sungyeol's beautiful smiles, and how he'd near completely wiped the grey cloud away, what with his zesty energy, and belief in happy endings.

Happy endings.

Myungsoo's time was ticking away. He wouldn't live for much longer. When Sungyeol was by his side, he felt like he could turn his mess of a life around--turn his tragedy around--and give it a happy ending.

Perhaps an emotional connection made is like a piece of string that links two hearts together, delicate and fragile, shimmering and precious. Then perhaps rejection is like a blunt-edged rusty knife that painfully bites its jagged blade into the string, until it is all but severed. And maybe, hope rekindled is like the warm hand that picks up the frayed fibres, twining them back together, offering a second chance for the dangling end of the string to bind with another heart again.

And in that instant, Myungsoo realised that for him, the hand had belonged to Sungyeol. Myungsoo wanted to grip that hand, and never let go.

Myungsoo opened his eyes, and looked stright at Sungyeol. He didn't blink.

"Can I love you?" Myungsoo whispered, loud enough so Sungyeol was the only other person in the world to hear. The question wasn't entirely for Sungyeol though--Myungsoo could still see the terrified look on his ex-best friend's face when he'd confessed, as if Myungsoo was some kind of horrific monster or something. Myungsoo needed to know if he could love again.

And Sungyeol understood, just like Myungsoo had known he would.

In answer, Sungyeol simply smiled, flung his arms around Myungsoo's neck, and gave him a bone crushing hug that he'd not been aware that he was in need of. Myungsoo's arms came up once more to encircle Sungyeol's waist. The way their bodies fit together snugly seemed so right, and both boys smiled over each other's shoulders.

Sungyeol pulled back his head to grin at Myungsoo.

"I really don't have to go, you know?" He paused, then admitted sheepishly, "I mean--I do have a few assignments, but nothing urgent..." He trailed off, and looked at Myungsoo hopefully.

But Myungsoo was in the selfless-lover mode. Besides spending time with him, Sungyeol also had a life to lead. Myungsoo couldn't let himself steal too much of Sungyeol's time, however much he wanted to. Myungsoo waved a hand in the air.

"Nope," Myungsoo framed Sungyeol's face in his hands, "You do need to get your homework done, silly."

And that was that, because Sungyeol couldn't argue anymore--those assignments honestly needed completion. Sungyeol left, pouting at Myungsoo till the lift doors closed and hid him from sight, and leaving Myungsoo pondering about what he'd seen on the tiny piece of paper from Sungyeol's book.

When Myungsoo had returned to his apartment, and shut the door safely behind him, something moved in the corridor leading to his door.

From behind a random potted plant that just so happened to be there at that very moment, popped a head, and another, and another, till there were five faces all staring in the direction of Myungsoo's home. They hadn't been superbly hidden, but both Myungsoo and Sungyeol had been too caught up in each other to notice.

"Wow." Dongwoo surrepticiously used his index finger to swipe beneath his nose to check for a nosebleed. "That was--"

"Hot." Hoya agreed, slinging an arm around Dongwoo's shoulders.

"They finally got together!" Sungjong smiled brightly at Myungsoo's door.

"I wonder what would've happened if Sungyeol had stayed..." Woohyun gave an evil smirk.

All of them froze, and turned behin them where a odd sniffling sound was heard.

"I..." Sunggyu paused to blow his nose on a handkerchief he'd somehow magically managed to produce from thin air. "I'm so happy for them!"

Cue another round of sobbing.

Myungsoo's gang had originally come to his house for another dance session, but they decided to arrange it on another day.

All of a sudden, Sunggyu's phone rang, and he swallowed the last of his sobbing to answer the call coherently.

"Yes?' Sunggyu's eyes opened wide (or as wide as they could go). "Myungsoo?"

All of the other friends turned at the mention of his name.

"Yeah, we can come over. I already have the rest all rounded up. We'll be over in about..." Sunggyu looked skepticaly at his watch, "About three seconds."

All five of them rushed to the apartment, and scrambled to press the doorbell in time. They were greeted by a very startled Myungsoo, who looked rather impressed by Sunggyu.

"Wow." Myungsoo gaped at his hyung. "You really took three seconds."

"Okay." Sunggyu settled himself comfortably on the couch, leaned forward, rested his elbows on his knees, clasped his hands together, and looked expectantly at Myungsoo. "What's up?"

Before Myungsoo could answer however, Woohyun piped up.

"Need a few tips?" Woohyun wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, rocking his hips forwards and backwards seductively. Myungsoo looked cluelessly at him.

"Tips?"

Woohyun looked as if he was on the verge of saying something more specific, but he was attacked by an angry hamster, and the chaos had to be subdued by the rest of the gang.

"What was that about?" Myungsoo only looked more clueless.

Sunggyu gave an awkward cough, shooting Woohyun a warning glare. "Nevermind that. What did you call us over for?"

"It's like this." Myungsoo sat at the foot of his sofa which was now overcrowded with teenage boys, and crossed his legs. "Sungyeol was over just now--" (his friends looked strangely unsurprised by tha fact, but Myungsoo shugged it off) "--and I happened to see his bookmark when it fell out of his book. It was a calendar, and I happened to see..." Myungsoo trailed off. He had been about to say two dates, but the second, later date was something he didn't feel ready to tell his friends about just yet. "...one date." His friends leaned forward, eager to hear more.

"I saw..." Myungsoo lowered his voice for suspense.

"Mmmm?" His friends encouraged.

"Sungyeol's brithday." Myungsoo concluded, and his friends nearly fell off the couch at the anticlimax ending.

"AND IT'S TOMORROW." Myungsoo very nearly screeched, making everyone else jump.

"We have to come up with something nice, NOW! We have to organise a party, we have to get the food, the drinks, the games, the presents..." Myungsoo clapped a hand to his face. "THE PRESENTS!!! Oh . I have no idea what to get him." Myungsoo panicked, bobbing about where he sat.

"Yah. Calm down." Sunggyu patted his shoulder wisely, "The world isn't ending..."

"We could have the party at my place," Woohyun suggested.

"I'll bake the cake!" Sungjong whipped out his phone to search for coffee-flavoured cake recipies.

By the end of the day, the entire party for Sungyeol had been settled, and Myungsoo's friends left feeling satisfied. All except Myungsoo. Because he still hadn't come to a decision on one tiny, tiny detail.

What should he get for Sungyeol?
