Chapter 22: Nearly Caught

For A Happy Ending

I wasn't originally going to update this chappie today, but a lovely comment from a lovely reader ( asdfghjkl40!!!<333) made me want to update asap so here it is... Enjoy! <333 xD Don't forget to comment, subscribe, and vote, of you think this story deserves it!! xD

(P.S. I think this story probably will conclude at around 25-30 chapters...Haha, this is the longest story I've written so far. Once I'm done with this one, I'll move on to starting/continuing with my other myungyeol, myungsoo and EXO fics...whewww!!)

When Myungsoo woke up, Sungyeol was up already, and once again he found himself wondering if the boy even slept at all (then again, Sungyeol could be a robot, or an alien, or something. He was too perfect to be a human being anyway). Myungsoo didn't feel lost and alone this time: he knew, even before he found Sungyeol in the kitchen, that his best friend hadn't left. Sungyeol wouldn't leave him alone like that.

Munching on the sandwich handmade by Sungyeol, Myungsoo couldn't help feeling like he was the luckiest guy in the world. He his lips to swipe up any jam on his lips before he speaking (and afterwards, he realised how mushy and unrealistic he sounded, and kind of (not really) regretted it).

"Don't make sandwiches for anyone else." Myungsoo stared at his sandwich, and took another nibble out of it.

"Why?" Sungyeol froze, hand holding the sandwich paused midair. "Are they that bad?" Sungyeol's eyes opened wide, and his eyebrows knitted together, and he found himself becoming irrationally anxious, and worried, and agitated, and...and...

"Nope," Myungsoo gave a jammy smile. "They're that good."

And then Sungyeol had to smile, because he felt irrationally glad, and happy, and relieved.

"Not even for my brother?" Sungyeol couldn't resist prodding Myungsoo. His best friend seemed to consider the question rather seriously, pensively chewing on his breakfast while considering.

"Fine." Myungsoo finally conceeded, "But don't make them as nice and messy and jammy as you make mine."

Sungyeol laughed for no reason. "I won't," He promised, nodding his head, poker faced to match Myungsoo's expression.

Both boys looked at each other. And then they smiled for no reason. It seemed to Myungsoo they did many things without really meaning to when they spent time together. It didn't really make sense, and it made him feel sort of bewildered sometimes, but it was a warm, happy kind of beffudlement, and he didn't mind it one bit.

"Sungyeol..." Myungsoo moved nearer to him, to ruffle his hair affectionately, or pull him into a giant bear hug (maybe both). Then he stopped dead all of a sudden, expression stiffening.

"Oh. Oh, oh." Myungsoo's face scrunched up, "Crap."

Literally.

Myungsoo lifted his foot from a small brown sludgy pile on the kitchen floor. Poop. It was poop. Well--to be more exact, Myungsoo had accidentally stepped in kitten poop. Myungsoo had forgotten all about the little guy in his bliss. What a way to be reminded of the tiny presence.

To his right, Sungyeol fell off his chair laughing.

Myungsoo hopped about on one foot, avoiding the little brown patch on the floor. His kitchen wasn't the biggest place in his apartment, but it wasn't as if it was tiny either. Of all the places he could have put his foot down to take another step, he just had to step in the little pile of kitten crap.

"Aww. Gross." Sungyeol straightened up, sat down on the chair again, and continued the little cat in his lap that Myungsoo had failed to see when he'd first seen Sungyeol that morning. "Better go get cleaned up..."  He fell about laughing again, careful not to squash the creature.

"Seriously." Myungsoo glowered at a helpless Sungyeol, "Not funny."

"So what do we do with it?" Myungsoo sat next to Sungyeol on the couch watching the kitten claw about and tumble around the bundle of blankets it'd slept on last night.

Sungyeol sighed, and turned to Myungsoo to reply, but he got distracted (but the way Myungsoo looked so hot with his hair all rumpled and damp from his morning shower). Sungyeol forgot what he was going to say, and stared at Myungsoo's face. Myungsoo blinked at him.

"What?" Myungsoo rubbed his hand over his face, trying to feel if he had anything on his face. He wondered why Sungyeol was staring at him.

"Nothing." Sungyeol shook himself. Maybe it was because he'd slept too little last night, but his brain didn't seem to be functioning properly that morning. He tried to remember what he was going to say, but nothing came to mind.

"What are we going to do with it?" Myungsoo asked again, nodding to the kitten. Sungyeol turned to look at it too.

"Her."

"What?" Myungsoo didn't understand, glancing at Sungyeol and tilted his head.

"It's a she..." Sungyeol rubbed the back of his head.

The question still remained unanswered.

"Can't you..." Sungyeol tried, but Myungsoo shook his head.

"We're not supposed to keep pets in this apartment. Why don't you..." Myungsoo started, but Sungyeol cut him off.

"I can't. I tried, but my brother's allergic to cats." Sungyeol spread his hands out and shrugged sadly.

They stared at the kitten again, still playing with the blankets.

Myungsoo's phone buzzed, and he picked it up, disrupting the silence that stretched between them.

"Neh, Hyung!" Myungsoo's face lit up. He turned to Sungyeol. Mouthed a silent 'Sunggyu'. Sunggyu loved cats. He didn't have one yet. Handing the kitten over to Sunggyu's care would be the perfect solution. It all seemed so simple. Why hadn't he thought of it before?!

"Hyung," Myungsoo's mouth curved upwards, "Do you like cats?"

Myungsoo didn't wait for an answer. He already knew what it would be. "I've got a present for you, hyung. We'll be over in about half an hour. Bye!" Sungyeol could hear some muffled words coming out of Myungsoo's phone, but they got cut off when the boy hit the red button.

"Well, come on then!" Myungsoo grinned, bundling both Sungyeol and the kitten out of the house. At the bus stop, he paused, and tugged at Sungyeol's sleeve.

"Hmm?"

"Swop jackets. You carry her."

When they reached Sunggyu's house, Woohyun opened the door and ushered them in. Sungyeol found it quite amazing the way he'd never seen Sunggyu without Woohyun by his side. It was as if the boys were inseparable.

Hoya and Dongwoo and Sungjong were waiting for them inside.

When Sunggyu came out from using the loo, and all seven friends were gathered around Sunggyu's family's coffee table, Everyone turned to stare at Myungsoo and Sungyeol.

"So...?" Sunggyu prompted, bouncing up and down a little in excitement.

"Where is it?" Hoya leaned towards the boys as if trying to sniff something out.

Gently, Sungyeol lifted the little cat out of the jacket pocket. Everyone cooed at the small creature, as it was put down on the ground. Everyone got down on their hands and knees, trying to get the little creature to come to them. In fact, all of them were so intent on making friends with the kitten, that nobody except Myungsoo noticed the strange smell coming from the jacket pocket.

"Oh my god." Myungsoo snatched the article of clothing from Sungyeol's hands, and prayed hard. Then, he peeked into it's pocket. And cursed.

"Oh crap." Myungsoo held the jacket pinched between his index finger and thumb. "It's my jacket too." He practically sobbed, hands raised heavenwards dramatically. "Whyyyyyy?!"

Everyone fell about laughing.

"Seriously," Myungsoo glowered at his heartless friends, "Not funny, guys."

Two large takeaway pizzas later, Sunggyu stared dumbfoundedly at Hoya over a game of truth or dare.

"You want me to what?!" Sunggyu's eyes were as big as the boys'd ever seen them (at last, Hamster-Gyu looked wide awake).

"Go on, hyung, you can do it!" Sungjong called out encouragement, smiling evily while carefully holding his phone to record the scene.

"You can't be serious..." Sunggyu looked around pleadingly at the rest of his friends, but he found no aid among them.

"Just do it already hyung!" Dongwoo settled himself down to be entertained, trying to hold back his excited laughter.

Sunggyu heaved a defeated sigh, gave up, and leaned towards Woohyun, who fidgeted, and looked halfway between deathly excited and happily terrified. Sunggyu closed the distance between them, then paused, as if he'd lost courage to go any further. His eyes darted among his friends. All he saw were anticipating stares. He sighed again, squeezed his eyes shut, and hovered his mouth over Woohyun's ear. He bit down, Woohyun squealed, and Sunggyu pulled back quickly, tomato red.

"There! I did it." Sunggyu fended off Sungjong, who was pretending to be a reporter, on the site where a scene of Woogyu had just occured.

"Spin the bottle!" He shouted unnecessarily, and then did it himself.

Everyone watched the bottle with bated breath, as it slowed down, and came to a stop pointing at...

"Sungyeol!!!" The group announced. Sungyeol smiled brightly.

"Truth or dare?" Sungjong picked up the bottle, and used it as a mike, carrying on his earlier reporter role.

Sungyeol thought about it for a while, then glanced at Myungsoo seated beside him, and decided to be brave. "Dare." He announced, trying to peek at Woohyun's phone to see which 'dare' had been picked at random.

The boys crowding around Woohyun burst out laughing. Sungyeol's stomach dropped.

"What is it?" He asked hopefully, still trying to get a good look at the screen of the phone.

Woohyun cleared his throat. "Kiss the nose of the person seated to your left." Woohyun finished reading off the phone. Dongwoo and Hoya clutched at each other, howling with laughter. Sunggyu smiled again. At least his dare wasn't so bad.

Sungyeol turned bright red. Everyone turned to look at the boy on his left, who'd become frozen to the spot as the dare was being read out.

"I don't believe it..." Sungyeol whined, so Woohyun passed him the phone with concrete evidence. Sungyeol hurriedly passed it back, as if the words would bite him or something. "What kind of game is this..." Sungyeol muttered under his breath.

He turned to the boy on his left, who just so happened to be Myungsoo. Sungyeol couldn't believe how hot his face had become. Out of all the people in the room, why did it have to be Myungsoo?! If he died of a heart attack, who would bring him back to life?

Sungyeol placed his hand closer to Myungsoo, to support himself as he leaned in, closer, closer, till their noses almost bumped, and all Myungsoo could see were Sungyeol's eyes, familiar liquid brown orbs staring straight into his soul. Myungsoo didn't move, didn't breathe. He'd never thought that a mere peck from a friend could have such a huge effect on him. He stayed perfectly still, but his heart started doing weird little back flips and sommersaults. They stared like that for a long moment, memorising how the light hit each other's eyes, how the dark lashes framed the orbs. They could have stayed like that forever, hardly breathing, just looking....

"Alright. We'll be merciful. All you have to do is give him a quick peck on the cheek, and then we'll move on." Sunggyu took pity on his fellow sufferer, and cut in, just as Sungyeol was about to lean in further and complete the dare.

At the sound of his voice, both boys jolted out of their dream-like state, and reeled backwards, away from each other, and the awkward tension in the room broke.

"Whew!" Hoya rubbed the back of his neck, "That was hot."

Dongwoo nodded in agreement.

"Are you guys going out or something?" Woohyun teased, but Myungsoo cut in hastily, before more assumptions could be made.

"Let's just get this dare over and done with, shall we?" He smiled at Sungyeol. "It isn't so bad now, is it? Just do it like you did last time..." He trailed off, then realised what he'd unknowingly gave away some information he'd sworn to keep a secret from the world. .

All of their friends stared from Sungyeol to Myungsoo, then back to Sungyeol.

"You guys kissed?" Sungjong was back in nosy reporter mode, brandishing his bottle.

"When?" Hoya's eyes were huge.

"How?" Dongwoo leaned in, as if to encourage them to confide in him.

"Why?" Sunggyu couldn't look more interested.

Sungyeol and Myungsoo backed away a little.

"So you guys are going out afterall." Woohyun concluded with a satisfied grin, "Congratulations!"

Myungsoo leapt to his feet.

"NNONONONO!!" His hands were waving in the air so fast they looked like little fans. "It's nothing like that. It was just to thank him, and stuff..." He trailed off, and sat back down again.

"But you guys text each other all the time." Hoya pointed out, still wide-eyed.

"And you're together all the time." Woohyun pointed out, arms crossed, and staring suspiciously at them.

It was Sungyeol's turn to jump up now. "Nope, that's you and Sunggyu hyung!" He pointed an accusing finger at Woogyu. The attention of the group diverted to the two oldest friends.

"Now that you mention it..." Sungjong pointed his bottle-mike at Woogyu.

"Uhmmm...?" Sunggyu was once again under interrogation.
