Omgg, Myungsoo's eyesssss.... *swoon*

Both of them didn't speak as they waited for the waitress to bring their orders to their table. The boy sitting opposite him played listlessly with his utensils, and Myungsoo looked down at his lap to avoid watching his best friend.

Myungsoo's breath caught, when the awkward silence stretched between both of them even after their orders arrived, a suffocating wall that separated him from the boy. Myungsoo racked his brains for something else to say.

"I'm gonna die soon."

Myungsoo's words came out in a breathy rush, and he kicked himself mentally for saying them. Myungsoo realised that he didn't say the brightest things when he struggled to find something to say. Of all things. He had to talk about his death again.

"In two months..." Myungsoo bit his tongue, then went on.

The boy opposite him didn't even put down his spoon, as he shovelled another spoonful of food into his mouth. Myungsoo took the straw of his milkshake into his hands, fiddling with it, rolling it between his thumb and index finger. He waited for the boy to break down, to react in sadness and helplessness, just like Sungyeol did, on the first day. Waited for him to cling onto his arm, and beg him not to leave.

It wasn't like Myungsoo wanted the boy to feel depressed or anything, nor did Myungsoo want any sympathy. All Myungsoo anted was for his best friend to show that he well and truly cared for Myungsoo, that Myungsoo was his best friend too--a big part of his life. Myungsoo waited, watching the boy's face, searching for the slightest twitch--anything. The boy caught Myungsoo staring, and realised that he was waiting for him to say something, and cleared his throat awkwardly.

"Oh." The boy managed between chews, "I'm sorry."

The boy went back to his food, and Myungsoo's hand on his straw stilled. Myungsoo's insides churned. It was an odd feeling, and Myungsoo couldn't put his finger on it, from when he'd been dragged away from Sungyeol, hurried through streets and parks. But Myungsoo knew what it was now.

Disappointment.

Myungsoo hadn't thought the emotion could be directed towards the guy he called his best friend. Well. It certaintly hadn't been so far, but ever since Sungyeol came into his life, Myungsoo had thought up so many questions he'd wanted to try questioning his best friend. But most of all, Myungsoo needed a confirmation that he meant as much to him, as he did to Myungsoo.

Myungsoo was confused, and let down. Sungyeol, a perfect stranger at that time, had cried for him. His best friend didn't even manage to sound sorry. Myungsoo felt a little sick.

"I'm not thirsty anymore." Myungsoo pushed his milkshake away, pushed his chair back, stood up, and walked out of the restaurant.

And didn't look back.

He walked past all the shops, out of the shopping mall, down the street, and turned the corner. Myungsoo made sure the mall was out of sight (just in case), before he ran, feet pelting the pavement, as he rushed back to where he had left Sungyeol.

Of course, Myungsoo reasoned with himself, as he panted, lungs on fire, Sungyeol wouldn't be there anymore--about five hours had passed, since the boy had come along, dragged Myungsoo about town, through parks where real lovers met up for dates, through shop-lined streets, through shopping malls, all the while grabbing his hand too tight for comfort.

The image of Sungyeol's fingers buried in his hair, last night on the beach, flashed through his mind as he ran. Myungsoo wondered how it would feel to hold them in his hand, to have them entangled with his own fingers. Sungyeol wouldn't squeeze so hard it hurt him. Myungsoo's stomach flipped again. This time, it actually hurt.

Regret. Myungsoo regretted letting himself be dragged away from Sungyeol.

Myungsoo imagined him, staring after both of them, as they made their way from the cafe together, his best friend's hand clasped in his own. He knew he owed Sungyeol an explaination. Myungsoo subtly wiped his hand on the seat of his pants, trying not to break his pace, but the burning stitch in his side got the better of him, and he slowed to a jog, stopping infront of the cafe at long last, panting, and placing a hand over his pounding heart. Myungsoo didn't know if the vigorous excercise would do any further damage to the organ, but Myungsoo couldn't care at that point in time.

Myungsoo peered through the large glass window, but he couldn't see Sungyeol anywhere. Myungsoo had knew that five whole hours was a long time to wait for someone who'd walked away, but Myungsoo had still been holding onto the irrational, fragile hope that Sungyeol would waiit for him, until Myungsoo came back. And then they'd go home together, and have fun, and make Myungsoo forget about the guy that messed with his mind (for that was really who his best was, Myungsoo realised belatedly).

Myungsoo pressed one hand to the cool, smooth glass, to support himself, and take some of the weight off his weary legs. His stomach gave a sickening tug again, and Myungsoo grunted softly. He missed Sungyeol.

Myungsoo imagined Sungyeol waiting for about one and a half hours (anything more than that would just be unfeasible), then getting fed up, and leaving, after finishing his own drink. Myungsoo imagined his own glass of milkshake sitting on the table, left where Sungyeol had set it down for him. Myungsoo could have slapped himself. He shouldn't have left like that. Left Sungyeol by himself.

Myungsoo heard footsteps behind him, and looked at the reflection in the shop window, to see the guy catch up with him, as breathless, and winded as Myungsoo. The boy had run after Myungsoo.

For some reason, the romantic notion of the boy Myungsoo'd loved chasing after him as he'd made his escape, didn't do anything to make him feel better. All Myungsoo felt about it was a funny kind of gladness--glad, that he'd run as fast as his legs could possibly take him.

The only person Myungsoo cared about seeing right now was Sungyeol. There was no more time for his crush anymore.

"Wait up..." The boy managed, huffing and puffing from the exertion. Myungsoo barely looked at him. He walked towards the bustop infront of the shop, the one he'd arrived at with Sungyeol, just over five hours ago. The boy behind him hurried to put himself infront of Myungsoo again, cutting off his path.

"Why'd you go?" The boy looked genuinely puzzled. Myungsoo made a clicking noise at the back of his throat. This guy was the reason he'd made the wrong choice, left Sungyeol, just to get disappointed by the guy he'd thought he loved most.

"I said, I didn't feel like having the milkshake afterall. There was no reason to stay." Myungsoo's voice was level, monotonous.

"Why are you pissed off? What did I do?" The boy threw his hands in the air, "I should be the angry one. Do you know how embarrassing it was for me to have people thinking you walked out on me?"

Myungsoo snorted. Wasn't that what he'd made Myungsoo do to Sungyeol? So it was alright for Sungyeol, but not for himself?

The idiot.

"I had t come back..." Myungsoo trailed off, to see someone watching him, over by the bustop, just sitting on the kerb, within earshot. Myungsoo wondered how much he had heard. He looked stiff, as if he'd been waiting for an unreasonably long time for someone, as if he'd been waiting in that position for an insane five hours. Myungsoo's heart soared. Myungsoo walked towards the bustop, towards Sungyeol--and, as it was, the guy he'd called his best friend.

The guy was still muttering about his mortification earlier on, but Myungsoo had stopped listening to his crap.

"I couldn't just leave him like that, you know? I couldn't just walk out on him completely." Myungsoo concluded.

"What." The guy turned to see who Myungsoo's eyes were fixed on, and sneered. The face Myungsoo had once thought beautiful suddenly contorted, and became ugly, Just briefly, Myungsoo wondered if the boy had always looked like that, if he'd only been too blinded to see the truth.

"That weird guy again. Your new friend." The boy sounded positively bitter.

And then Myungsoo had nothing left, but to say the truth. Myungsoo had only just realised it himself, as he'd run all the way back to where he'd left Sungyeol. To where Sungyeol had waited patiently for him to return.

"Who? My best friend?"

Myungsoo spoke loudly, so he was sure both boys infront of him could hear. Myungsoo pointed his chin in the direction of the bustop as he spoke, and the boy on the curb drew in a sharp breath. Myungsoo grinned suddenly.

"He's my best friend." Myungsoo pushed his face closer to the guy's. "Watch your words."

Myungsoo walked to the bustop, and crouched down, and sat next to Sungyeol on the curb.

"Don't worry, he's gone." Sungyeol whispered after some time had passed, stealing a glance over both their shoulders, so close that they bumped against each other when they moved the slightest bit. Myungsoo loved the closeness. It made him feel warm.

"Here." Sungyeol shoved something sticky into his hands. Myungsoo looked down at the plastic cup. A little bit of the milkshake had spilled, and dribbled its way down from the lid, mixing with the condensation from when the beverage had actually been cold.

"I saved it for you." Sungyeol smiled, "For when you came back."

Myungsoo lowered his head a little, and took the straw between his teeth. The drink tasted a little odd--the ice had melted, and made the drink really diluted, and it was warm, and the cup was more than a little crinkled where Sungyeol's fingers must have held it, waiting for him to return. But it was sweet (barely), and was just what Myungsoo needed at that moment, and it tasted better than any other milkshake Myungsoo had ever drunk in the entire course of his life.

It was too much for Myungsoo. A tear slid down his cheek, followed by another. Myungsoo couldn't help himself. He didn't actually know what he was crying for.

"I'm sorry, I didn't..." Was all Myungsoo managed to eke out, before his throat closed painfully, and his words turned into unintelligible squeaks punctuated by sharp intakes of breath.

"Oi..."

Sungyeol patted his head, and smoothed his hair, that was sticking up in weird angles from his wild run, and tried to mop up every tear with his sleeve. And all the way home, on the bus, Myungsoo didn't raise his head, didn't look up, didn't remove his hands from his face. Because he felt exhausted, because he didn't have it in him to face the world just yet.

Myungsoo didn't have to explain this to Sungyeol. He seemed to understand well, without any words. Just like a best friend should do. All Sungyeol did was to fling an arm around Myungsoo, and squeeze his shoulders slightly. Sungyeol didn't tell him that everything would work out right, that everything would be okay. Because Sungyeol honestly didn't know, and he hated lies. Myungsoo leaned his head on Sungyeol's shoulder, and kept his eyes shut.

How Sungyeol's arm on his shoulder could feel so warm, so safe, and comforting, Myungsoo didn't know.
