For A Happy Ending

Hmm. Not so sure about that, guyssssss.... ><

Sunggyu waved his hand in the air, as if trying to fan away the accusing stares cast at Woohyun and him.

"Whoo!" Sunggyu alternated between flapping his hand at his friends and at himself, "It's warm in here. I'll go get some drinks."

He jumped up, and legged it to the safety of the kitchen, to curse Sungyeol's attention-diverting skills in privacy. Woohyun shifted uncomfortably, sitting crosslegged with the rest of his friends on the rug. He looked around, searching for something to say to save himself, and brightened up.

"There are a lot of us. I'll go help Sunggyu hyung!" Woohyun disappeared after Sunggyu.

Sungyeol raised his hands like a conjurer.

"See!" He nodded in Woogyu's direction for emphasis, "What did I tell you?!"

Myungsoo nodded rapidly in agreement.

"Guys."

Hoya suddenly spoke up, when they were peacefully sipping on their orange juices (courtesy of Woogyu). Everyone looked at Hoya expectantly. It would be something interesting--Hoya was a fun guy to listen to.

"What do you want to be when you grow up?" Hoya looked round the group expectantly.

Everyone groaned.

"Stop speaking Grownup." Woohyun grumbled, scowling at the floor.

There was a silence.

"Because I want to dance." Hoya spread his hands and spoke simply. Sungyeol's hand flew into the air.

"I want to be a singer."

Myungsoo couldn't help remembering having this conversation with Sungyeol, couldn't help remembering his answer to the same question. It'd made Sungyeol cry, but talking to Sungyeol was one of the best decisions he'd ever made in his life (even though there hadn't really been a choice at that point in time). Myungsoo smiled to himself.

Hoya's eyes curved as he smiled at his friends excitedly.

"Why don't we form a group?"

Sungyeol clapped his hands in glee.

"As in audition? As a group? In a proper company and all?"

Dongwoo grabbed Hoya by the shoulders.

"If you want to, then I'm in." Dongwoo shook Hoya's shoulders at each word, and by the end of his little speech, Hoya looked rather dizzy.

Sungjong sat up straighter, and leaned towards his hyungs.

"I've memorised a few girl group dances." He smiled, proud of himself.

Everyone paused at that.

"Uh..." Sungyeol blinked awkwardly at Sungjong, "Girl group dances? I mean that's great and all, but I think we're debuting as a male group." Sungyeol looked around at the group questioningly, motioning to them.

"Do you see any girls here?" Hoya asked, straight faced.

At that very moment, Sunggyu's mother came in to collect their empty cups. All the boys turned to look at her.

"Uhh..." Sungyeol trailed off, uncertain.

Hoya looked interested.

"Can she dance?"

Everyone looked at Myungsoo expectantly. Myungsoo didn't want to meet their stares. He didn't really want to dance, he didn't really want to sing. He'd never thought about it before, really, and suddenly being faced with the decision had ruffled him.

Myungsoo thought about his previous answer to the question all those weeks ago. He decided to make Sungyeol smile this time round.

"Fine." Myungsoo held a hand up to silence his friends who'd just started to cheer, "But--"

Everyone held their breaths.

"--I don't know how to dance."

All of his friends collasped in relief.

"Eyy..." Dongwoo fanned a hand in the air, and flung an arm around Hoya, and patted Sungjong's back.

"They'll help." He smiled brightly, then laughed to himself in the way only Dongwoo can manage.

"Sure..." Myungsoo raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Like, I can't even do a body wave." He flung his arms out. "Watch."

Myungsoo dipped his head, and wiggled his shoulders, back, then bum. There was an awkward silence.

"Well." Hoya scratched the back of his head. "You looked like a dying worm. Don't do it so vigorously. It's more..." Hoya tried to search for a suitable word to describe the feeling, and ended up adding a lame, "...natural" to finish his sentence. "Don't think so hard about it."

Myungsoo closed his eyes, cleared his brain (it was a difficult chore to carry out, what with Sungyeol still in the room, watching him), and moved.

An appreciative rumbling applauded his attempt this time, and Myungsoo couldn't help feel a sense of accomplishment. Did Sungyeol see his wave? Myungsoo furtively peeked over at his best friend's face to check. Sungyeol was staring at him, mouth slightly agape, face sort of flushed. As Myungsoo watched, Sungyeol's tongue poked in between his lips, and swiped over them once unconsciously. Sungyeol obviously liked the way he'd moved just now.

The sense of accomplishment morphed into deep satisfaction.

Myungsoo decided to try it once more. Again, the murmur of approval. Again, Sungyeol's tongue.

"More," Myungsoo tugged at Hoya and Sungjong's sleeves, voice halfway between intense excitement and happy desperation, "Teach me more!"

And so Hoya and Sungjong's impromptu dance lesson for 5 clueless students commenced.

By the end of the session, Sungyeol's face was decidedly pink, and Myungsoo hadn't felt happier about himself in years.

"That," Myungsoo was still huffing a little (boy, was he out of shape), "Was fun."

Sungyeol nodded so fast Myungsoo was afraid his head would come off. Sungyeol still found it hard to look the boy in the eye. He couldn't bring himself to stand too close to Myungsoo either, after all the y dancing, and watching the way Myungsoo's hips rolled so smoothly, so...

Sungyeol had to cut his train of thought in half, lest his head explode. Talk. He needed to talk away the awkwardness with Myungsoo. As the two boys departed from Sunggyu's house together, heading for the train station, he fished in his mind for something to say, something to ask Myungsoo. Anything to start a decent conversation. He tucked his book under his arm, and rubbed his neck uncomfortably.

"Again?" Myungsoo pointed his chin in the direction of his book.

Sungyeol clutched at it protectively.

"Yeah." Sungyeol it's spine gently, "I love happy endings." He couldn't resist asking the question again, just in case Myungsoo had changed his mind. Sungyeol hope Myungsoo had changed his mind.

"Do you believe in happy endings?"

Myungsoo took a deep breath. He'd already decided on the answer the first time. Why did Sungyeol have to bring it up again?

"No." Myungsoo's answer was short, but it was gentler than the last two times, as if trying to cajole Sungyeol into (finally) accepting defeat, into realising that Myungsoo'd probably never believe in happy endings.

Myungsoo stretched his aching arms, and flung one around Sungyeol comfortably. Sungyeol jumped, and gave a funny squeak, and the colour that had been fading back to normal rushed to his face, again. Myungsoo smirked, and squeezed a little harder, and was pleasantly surprised when Sungyeol seemed to melt, and lean against him too. They walked like that for a while, until an old ajumma walking along the side of the road smiled at them strangely, and they realised just how close they were getting.

Sungyeol jumped away from Myungsoo awkwardly.

"I guess... I'll just go home today." He paused, as Myungsoo's face seemed to drop a little, "Otherwise the others.." Sungyeol looked over his shoulder at Sunggyu's house, "will think that there is something...funny...going on." Sungyeol added hastily, "Which there isn't, of course..." He wondered why his voice sounded so mournful.

"Y-yeah...I guess..." Myungsoo stopped, and watched a flustered Sungyeol run towards the bustop back the other direction, to catch a bus that wasn't in sight. Myungsoo couldn't resist smiling again.

Perhaps, it was because he'd stayed up too late just thinking last night (not, about Sungyeol, of course), Myungsoo felt like a zombie the next morning. Crawling out of bed, Myungsoo rubbed his eyes (got some jam on his lids), and munched lethargically on his sandwich, that didn't taste half as good as the ones Sungyeol made. It was strange--they'd only parted last night, but Myungsoo corely missed Sungyeol. He missed waking up in the middle of the night, and listening to the boy's sleep-breathing, missed the taste of the messy, jammy sandwiches, missed his presence at breakfast.

Now he was getting soppy.

Washing up, Myungsoo decided to go for a run, to freshen himself up, and clear his head. He could survive the day without Sungyeol, and vice versa. Reaching for the door, full of motication, Myungsoo nearly tripped over someone sitting on his doorstep.

"Sungyeol!" Myungsoo didn't like how delighted he sounded to find his best friend sitting there. It was as if he had been desperate for the boy's company or something.

This is one intellectually and finely written fanfic I have ever read. (I'm new to fanfics too but I have read many & this is 2nd one to my standards of very well composed ones.) All the love to you!
