"Come on! This way. Hurry up!" Myungsoo's best friend's grip tightened on his fingers, squishing them together, so the gesture hurt a little. Myungsoo didn't really mind though. He was still trying to get his head around the fact that his best friend was holding his hand, even after Myungsoo'd confessed that he was gay for his best friend.Maybe he still had a chance? A shot at getting together, making it right, patching his life back together? Myungsoo let his feelings soar for the first time since he'd been abandoned.

Well. Maybe he'd not been abandoned in the first place. Maybe...his best friend just needed time to think it out. Maybe he'd accepted Myungsoo's confession? Myungsoo just had to ask, to make sure.

"Hey--"

He was cut off, almost immeadiately.

"She was following me this morning--" His best friend started, looking over his shoulder, scanning the area for someone.

"She...?" Myungsoo asked, not following, both mentally, and physically, stumbling behind his best friend.

"The girl. She's taken to stalking me, following me around like some ghost. I can't stand it anymore. Remember when I asked you to pretend to be my boyfriend? I need you to help me get her off my trail." His best friend still glanced behind him. For all the world, he looked like a hunted rodent, or something.

Behind the best friend, Myungsoo's face fell, and with it plummeted his spirits. Pretend. Of course. His best friend was only pretending. Myungsoo tried to shake off his best friend's grip on his hand. But his movement was weak, half-hearted, and his attempt failed terribly.

"Hurry up. " The best friend dragged him around the corner, and the shop where Sungyeol (probably) still waited for him, disappeared. Myungsoo tugged on his hand to slow him down. His best friend made a irritated noise. He turned to Myungsoo.

"Where are we going?" Myungsoo hated how small his voice sounded, as if he was a child again, as if he was completely helpless, and at the mercy of the best friend.

"That shopping centre," his best friend pointed the tall building out, "we're going to go shopping together, just like couples do."

The words 'together', and 'couples' echoed in Myungsoo's mind. It was magic, the way they lifted his spirits once more. Myungsoo decided to do something stupid, for just once in his whole messed up life. He decided to pretend too, that they were really going out. That his best friend was in love with him too. That everything was alright again.

"Okay," Myungsoo nodded once, and his best friend put an arm around him. Myungsoo leaned in, just a little bit, and he glanced at their reflections in the shop window beside them. Myungsoo smiled, because they looked for all the world, like they were official, and living in their happy ever afters. The reflection was blurry, and Myungsoo wanted to slow down, and look at both of them properly, but his best friend wouldn't let him, and hurried both on, as if the whole world was after them.

So Myungsoo just grinned at his best friend's reflection, and tried to beam as much love as was humanly possible into his smile, so maybe--just maybe--he could change his best friend's mind.

When the doors of the shopping mall slid open for them, Myungsoo loved the way his best friend still kept a hand on his arm, as if to show the whole world that Myungsoo belonged to him. Myungsoo loved the way the waitress at the cafe in the mall eyed them up and down, and asked if they wanted a table for two. His best friend nodded, and Myungsoo's smile seemed to dazzle even the surly waitress.

"A table for two." His best friend echoed, wrapping an arm around Myungsoo, and squeezed, so that Myungsoo's tummy erupted into warmth.

They were led to a table in the far corner, a narrow little booth that offered the most privacy in the entire cafe. For a moment, Myungsoo wanted to hug the waitress, but his best friend shook his head. He pointed to a seat near the glass wall looking out onto the street.

"We'll sit here." His best friend walked over, and sat down, and didn't look at him anymore. Myungsoo followed, after shooting a last, longing glance at the small booth. It would have been perfect for a couple who wanted to be left alone. It reminded him of the one he sat in, with Sungyeol, all those days ago. Days. It had only been days since he'd met Sungyeol, and yet, it seemed like they'd known each other for ages--Sungyeol even got along so well with his friends! It was nice to have his (normally picky) group accept another one of his friends--they'd never really liked his best friend. They'd found him fake--or so they claimed.

"Myungsoo." His best friend's voice was low, even, and the way he rolled Myungsoo's name off his tongue almost gave him shivers, and chased all thoughts of Sungyeol to the back of his mind, so that they only remained there as nagging little memories. Myungsoo went over to him, and sat in the seat opposite him. He followed his best friend's gaze to the street, where people milled, and went about their own business. He couldn't see anyone who looked like they were paying especial attention to him and his best friend. He wondered who the girl was. Myungsoo cleared his throat to break the silence, but his best friend beat him to speaking their first proper sentence to each other, since he'd escaped from Myungsoo's house, that horrible day.

"Hey, how's life?" His best friend's smile was warm, and filled Myungsoo up with a bubbling happiness. He took a while to answer.

"I'm fine, I guess," Myungsoo paused, and thought of something interesting to say. Talking to his best friend had never been so difficult before. Now he felt like he had to choose his words carefully, as if one stray vowel would make the boy he loved leave him again.

"I made a new friend," Myungsoo said slowly, mulling over his own words, hating the way he sounded so childish, "You know, the lanky guy I was with."

His best friend nodded. "Yeah, I know, the tall skinny one, with that weird smile."

Myungsoo stopped smiling. For some reason, he felt compelled to defend Sungyeol, which was weird, because it would have been so much easier to just nod, and accept everything his best friend said, just like he'd done, for the past three years.

"It's not weird," Myungsoo tilted his head to one side, thinking of a better adjective, "It's...special."

His best friend still looked unconvinced. "It's weird." The boy insisted, then went on, "Have they beaten him down yet?"

Myungsoo blinked. "Who? Sunggyu's group?" Myungsoo watched his best friend's smile, "They like him."

The boy sitting opposite him snorted. "They like him? Just goes to show how messed up they are..." He trailed off, and Myungsoo raised his hands, as if to defend himself. "I like him too." Myungsoo protested.

There was an awkward silence.

"You like him?" His best friend sounded off-hand, and Myungsoo leapt to his feet.

"No, no, not that way..." Myungsoo realised that he'd probably reacted too wildly, and sat back down again, watched by practically every pair of eyes in the cafe.

"Oh." His best friend's answer was short, and Myungsoo was relieved.

"What do you want?" His best friend nodded his head towards the menu on the table, and Myungsoo remembered how he'd looked at another one, about an hour ago. He watched as a waitress came over, at his best friend's bidding.

"Milkshake please," Myungsoo said, setting the menu down, and wondering how Sungyeol was managing with the two huge milkshakes on his own, somewhere back there, down the road.

Chapter 4: First of all, congratulations for writing such an awesome piece. I'm new to Infinite and Seongyeol is my bias and I ship Myungyeol/Sooyeol friendship so much. This is one intellectually and finely written fanfic I have ever read. (I'm new to fanfics too but I have read many & this is 2nd one to my standards of very well composed ones.) All the love to you!
