Visiting the Kindergarten

One Day

Tuesday wasn't very different compared to Monday. They stood up early again, Ayley drove them to Toronto, and they had their interview. This time, though, Henry had to translate more beause the business man spoke rather fast and used many terms Zhou Mi had never heard of. That evening, Zhou Mi and William sat down together to further discuss both contracts with all the details and all the tricky wordings a native English speaker knew and understood.

Ryeowook and Henry spent the time catching up some more. Somehow they managed to never get tired as they talked and they always found something to talk abou. It was the same way it had always been for the two of them. The only thing neither of them mentioned was Yesung.

"So, what are we gonna do tomorrow?" Henry asked and lay back on his best friend's bed, watching the other who sat on his desk chair with his legs pulled up, currently biting his lip in thought.

"I don't know..."

"Could you show us the kindergarten?"

"Tomorrow?" Henry nodded at Ryeowook's question and looked at the other curiously. The older thought about it for a moment and shrugged in the end. "I'll text Sam about it."

"Sam?"

"She's my boss," he explained with a grin and grabbed his phone. Henry remained quiet as Ryeowook texted his boss. "Done~" he announced eventually and put his phone away again.

"Who else should I have heard of so far?"

"Let's start with Sam herself. Her name is actually Samantha, but she wants all of us and the kids to call her Sam. It's more like we're all friends than co-workers! Other than that, the one I get along with the best aside from Jongwoon would be Josy. She's really sweet, you'll love her! Oh, and Jenny works there!"

"Jennifer Andersen?" Henry propped himself up on his elbows in surprise. Jenny had been a year over him in school, but she had never seemed like a social kind of person. Hearing she was working at a kindergarten now definitely didn't fit the image he had had of his former school mate!

Ryeowook nodded, though. "Exactly. She's actually not that bad. She once explained that she just never got along with people her age, but she's always been good with kids. And you should see her when she's working! All of the kids love her and yet she follows the same rules all of us do."

"Woah, that's cool! But it sounds like all of you are about the same age?"

The older shook his head with a smile. "No. Sam and Josy are in their thirties, actually. And Jongwoon is actually a couple years older than I am, too! It's just Jenny and I who have just started working."

Henry nodded, amazed at the constellation. "Are there also others?"

"Well, of course there are. But the ones I told you about are those whom you will most likely meet tomorrow and those I get along with the best."

"What about the kids?"

"You heard what I said about Suzy, right?"

"The girl who adores you?"

"Yes. I hope you'll get to meet her tomorrow, she's a real sweetheart! But she's also a little crybaby, I have to comfort her often..." Ryeowook pouted and Henry let himself fall back onto the bed, trying to imagine what that little girl might look like while he waited for his best friend to continue speaking. "The others... well, you'll meet them tomorrow. Tim and Josh are little troublemakers. Then we have the twins Elena and Alina."

"Say that again."

"Elena and Alina," Ryeowook repeated with more emphasis on the difference of the two names. "I know they sound very similar, but somehow that seems to be normal when getting twins..." He shrugged lightly.

"I can't wait to meet them all!" Henry whined. There was so much now that he was missing out on regarding his best friend's life, it wasn't fair! Words couldn't even express how much he wished to still live in Canada, still be healthy, still live in peace with Ryeowook....

And then the thought crossed his mind that he wouldn't have met Zhou Mi if he had been healthy and his heart began to hurt. Was it okay to be sacrificed in order to meet the person you loved? Was it really acceptable that death was the prize for love? And what about those who would stay behind?

The bed shifted next to him and a moment later, Ryeowook cuddled against his side, so Henry turned around to hug his best friend back tightly.

"Don't feel bad. Somehow, it'll all work out."

"How do you know what I'm thinking about?"

"I know you, Henry. You're my best friend. You shouldn't forget that."

A soft chuckle left the younger's lips. "Ah, right. I'm sorry." He breathed in the older's comforting scent, allowing it to help him calm down. Now he was in Canada. He wouldn't be sad now and he would be as healthy as possible. Nothing would get in the way anymore now that he actually was in Canada. He only had so little time left with his best friend and his family, he couldn't waste it any longer!

"Maybe this will help: What have you and Zhou Mi done already?"

"Excuse me!?" Henry leaned away to see if his best friend was serious and he almost expected the older to laugh - but he only saw curiosity and slight embarrassement in the other's expression. At least he had been right, that did help Henry get distracted. "Umm... well... Not much, I guess... We talk a lot... We hug and hold hands... He helped me to my first job... We kiss. That's really it."

"So you haven't done... it?"

Henry shook his head. "No..." He looked away, feeling another wave of sadness run through him because he knew he had never made love with someone and never would. He could already feel that his body was too weak... One month... that was all he had left.

Ryeowook hugged him a little tighter. "Anyways, what is that job you talked about? So far you only said it was at the company Zhou Mi works at, but you never told us any details!"

Henry shrugged lightly. "There isn't much to tell, I guess... I came to pick Zhou Mi up one day and to get to know the band he manages and also the dance instructor, and just as we were preparing to leave, that other man approached us and asked Zhou Mi if he knew someone who could teach his band how to play the violin because their teacher had fallen sick and they had a concert soon... Everyone turned to look at me. I agreed. I only had two weeks to teach them how to not only play by the sheets, but to also listen to their hearts and what they feel as they play. It was a tough time, but I've started to love Butterfly a lot. I really hope they'll succeed!"

"I hope so, too," Ryeowook replied and Henry could hear in his voice that he was smiling.

"Thank you."

"Can you show me something they made?"

"Sure." Henry sat up again and pointed to his best friend's computer. "May I?"

Ryeowook nodded. "Yeah."

The younger got up and off the bed. He sat down in the chair Ryeowook had been using before and moved the computer mouse to bring the device back to life. He opened the internet and went to youtube, then he searched for Butterfly's music video, clicking on it when he had found it and making sure it would be played in full screen mode. In the meantime, Ryeowook came to his side to watch the video. They stayed silent as the song played.

In the end, the slightly older male nodded. "They're still pretty young, aren't they?"

"They're actually comparably old compared to other newcomers."

"Are they?"

"Yes."

"Woah... That's extreme..."

"I know, right?"

Ryeowook thought for a moment before he continued speaking, "You can see they're new to all of this. Some things still seem a little messy here and there. But I think I like it."

Henry beamed at the compliment, feeling as proud as he knew their manager would have. "I'm glad you think that way! Now let me show you a video from their concert!" He pressed 'esc' to go back and then searched for one of the live videos, but he couldn't find one he liked right away. After almost a minute of searching, he had found a good video of his favorite song by Butterfly. He let Ryeowook watch it in silence once again while he glanced from his best friend to the video and back every so often. When the performance ended, Ryeowook clapped softly.

"I like it! They appear at least a little more organized now."

"And the playing~?" Henry asked hopefully, making his friend laugh.

"How could I tell? But I think it honestly might be better. I'll listen some more to all of it, okay?"

The younger nodded, happy about the compromise. "Alright~ Follow and support them a lot, alright~?"

"I will, don't worry, Henry."

The latter nodded with a smile and then yawned when a sudden wave of tiredness hit him. He glanced back at the screen and realized it was almost 10PM already. With a soft whine, he stood up. "I should go to bed..."

"Why? We don't have to leave early tomorrow."

"I know. But I got up early and since I need a lot of sleep..." He shrugged his shoulders and his smile turned apologetic. "If I go to bed now, I'll definitely be up around 8 tomorrow, so that'll be good, right?"

Ryeowook pouted, but then he nodded. "Yes, I guess... Eight should be a good time..."

Henry nodded and smiled softly, then he stretched a little. "Plus, today was a long day anyways~ I bet Zhou Mi is tired as well!"

The older laughed. "I think you don't know a lot about their working moral! He's probably getting more sleep during this one week here than he usually gets in two weeks back in Seoul!"

This time, the younger pouted. "I hope not! That wouldn't be fair!"

"Well, ask him! Since he's a manager, I wouldn't be surprised if four to five hours of sleep are a lot more normal to him."

Henry whined, but when he thought some more about it, he came to the realization that his best friend was most likely right - and he didn't like it. "Well, then he better get all the sleep he can while he's here!"

"I don't think he can even sleep as much as you can."

"I don't care!"

Ryeowook laughed. "Get to bed, silly kid!"

"I'm neither silly nor a kid!" Henry complained.

A knock on the door made both of them turn towards it in time to see Ayley peek her head in. "May I?"

"Sure, mom," Ryeowook answered.

Ayley entered, followed by her husband. "We're going to bed now, so keep it down a little, alright?"

"We will," the two young men ensured her in unison with warm smiles.

"Actually, I will go to bed now, too," Henry added sheepishly.

"Already?" Ayley asked in surprise.

Henry nodded. "I haven't slept as much as I usually do the past few days, so I'll go to bed early today so I'll be in a really good shape when we visity the kindergarten tomorrow!"

"You'll see it tomorrow? I'm sure you'll like it," Ryeowook's mother replied and engulfed the returnee in a tight, motherly hug. "Sleep well, my boy."

"You, too," Henry replied.

Ryeowook and his father bid goodbyes as well, afterwards the parents switched to bid the other young man goodbye. After they had left again, Henry turned to his best friend and hugged him once more. "Goodnight, Wookie~"

"Goodnight, Henry. Sleep well."

"You, too~"

"By the way, how is sleeping in our guest room?"

"Aish, don't remind me!" Henry leaned back and pouted. "The first morning I was soooo confused!"

Ryeowook laughed. "I would've been, too."

The younger shook his head lightly, but he was smiling. "Now I've grown used to it."

"I bet a certain someone helped~?"

"Maybe~?"

They laughed again until Henry couldn't stiffle yet another yawn. "Alright, I'll really go to bed now. See you tomorrow." He stepped out of the hug and left the room in order to get ready, hoping Zhou Mi was done with whatever he needed to do.

On Wednesday, Henry was woken up by the scent of a delicious breakfast. He grinned and sat up, chuckling at the drowsy grunt he received in response from the man beside him.

"Wake up, sleepyhead!"

"I'm off today," Zhou Mi groaned.

"But Wookie's making breakfast," Henry argued and leaned down to peck his boyfriend's cheek, then he happily got out of bed and grabbed a set of clothes to wear that day. It was almost funny how easily the tables had turned in their state of awakeness.

Henry beamed at his reflection in the mirror as he got ready. By the time he exited the bathroom and re-entered the gest room, Zhou Mi had sat up and blinked at the younger male tiredly. They were both dressed and yet the foreigner seemed to be anything but awake. Henry smiled at the cuteness and went over to his boyfriend, leaning down a little to place a gentle, loving peck on his lips. "Good morning, Zhou Mi."

Said male shook his head. "How can
