Blood. Life. Love. Us

When the world begins to drop underneath your feet, what is one to do? Run? Hide? Fight? These doubts line your mind, drenching your thoughts until they are nothing but jumbled messes.

Naeun sighed. It was passed midnight. Way past midnight, the sun was set to rise in a few hours of so. She found herself surrounded by blackness. She was alone, in more than one way. She could not stay in that room, not after she had found out about Eunji.

So she ran, she ran like a coward too apprehensive to face the dumb call of war. And here she was. At the back of her home, her salvation from the universe, staring out into emptiness.

The moon's watchful eyes observing the world below while the stars twinkled around it. It was calm. Not a sound broke through the soundless night air. The stars were her guidance of light, and dried valley below her went for endless miles.

She came here after her parents died, after Kahi died too. And now...when Eunji died. She took in deeps breaths, her breaths coming out in white smoke as she hugged her arms around her body. She in as much cold air as she could but she felt like her lungs could not take in enough oxygen as her breathing was unsteady and fast.

There were soft touches of white flakes that fell onto her skin. It was snowing, it was snowing a storm to add to her storm. It was snowing the first time that winter. Winter, a season fit for the dead where the whole world fell into a sleepful phrase, life itself seemed frozen, dead, forgotten.

Naeun paced back and forth, her stomps digging deep into the dried dirt. Her breaths unsteady and erratic. She walked, and walked and walked, back and forth in the same spot until her knees gave out on her and she fell onto the floor. Eunji was gone. Her best friend was gone. Naeun sat there in the cold in silence as that utter fact soaked in. Eunji was dead.

And then in the echoes of nothingness she wailed into dreadful tears. The silence was broken by heart wrenching tears. The world soon filled with the shattering of Naeun's heart as it broke for the nth time.

--

Body curled into itself, she listened as training waged on into the dying night, until the moon no longer danced with the stars for the sun was about to arise. She didn’t sleep. She couldn’t. Her eyes were heavy, begging to be closed, but her brain was wired, prancing around with thoughts of her life.

It had been one never ending cycle of deaths. Funerals after funerals, tears and mourning, as if death had attached itself to her.

"Naeun-ah!" The familiar voice called to her breaking her from her faraway daze. She turned around, not a soul appeared in her sight.

"Naeun-ah!" The voice echoed, the wind picked it up and brought it toward like. The voice was of silk and honey, yet it was danger written in red. She stood up, her bones cracking from her sudden movement. Her body felt tired and was about to fall when she pressed her body onto the trunk of a nearby tree. The snow fell like feathers, large white crystal drops that slowly added onto the ones underneath her feet.

"Naeun." The voice called for her the third time. She scanned around, no one was there. Not a soul lingered here. Naeun looked around, her ears were deceiving her, she was sure of it. Or was it her mind, had her sanity finally leaving her. It made sense, with everything she knew it made perfect sense.

She picked her foot up and took a step forward, each step drowned into the snow that had appeared. Each step felt like she was moving with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Before she knew it she was running back to the house. It wasn't because she was scare, no, she was running because she was running from herself.

She stumbled to get her house keys in her jacket pocket, when she did she quickly unlock the front door, stumbled inside and slammed the door shut. Her legs loss all their strength and she fell down, her back leaning back against the door. She sighed as she looked around the house.

It was too quiet, too empty. It was no home. Just a house. But right now, that house was the means of protection blocking her from the raging fire outside her doorsteps. Naeun breathed in and out, her breaths were slow and deep, her eyes locked with the ground. Another drop of tear fell from her eyes, falling onto her skin.

"Naeun-ah" She heard someone call out to her. She glanced up, her jaw dropped, her face was snow white as if all the blood in her body had been out.

"...Eunji" She whispered obviously shock to be seeing her friend standing before her.

"You did this to me. It's because of you. You and them." Eunji cried out as streams of tears fell down her cheeks. Her eyes were bloodshot red, her skin sickingly pale, and her aura seemed dark.

"They were the reason why I died." Eunji announced. Naeun stared at her friend wildly unable to process in everything that was happening. "Eunji." She whispered as she slowly pulled herself from the ground.

"Don't! No! Just don't Naeun. Don't." Eunji screamed backing away from Naeun.

"You did this. You and death. You two are best friends." Everything turned black for a minute as Naeun felt her body crumble onto the ground. She glanced up to find Eunji gone.

She stood up and did the first thing that crossed her mind. Run. She grabbed the door knob opening the front door and ran. She grasped for air, any air possible as she tried swallowing. The cold wind hit her fact hard and fast. The snow was slowing her down and getting her shoes, a pair of black boots soaked but she could care less for them. The numbness that hit her from the cold was nothing compare to the massive sheet of an iceberg that had slammed throughout her heart.

The blood in her veins felt like a poison as it coursed through her body. Her bones were heavy like lead, so heavy she almost couldn't move. She was weighed down with the force, the sheer power, of the emotion. She felt so god damn guilty. It was eating her alive. It was going to kill her. Surely, it would kill her. Any moment now she'd keel over. She would crumple to the ground mid-stride, dead before her skull smacked against the pavement.

And, then maybe, just maybe, she'd find the peace she was searching for. The peace in her soul that she longed for, craved like some strange drug she'd never indulged in. She could stop this, the deaths, the tears, the pain. She was guilty and she deserved to be punished.

“I don’t understand. She left in the middle of the night. She’s not at her home, no body can get in touch with her and no one has seen her?” Chorong clarified as she shot draggers into the head of the officer she was speaking to. She was losing her cool, she was on the blink of going crazy yet she somehow managed to keep it together. She hadn't slept all night, she was running with vampires, which was nearly impossible, in more than one ways, and there was a crazy vampire in town killing people.

“You don’t think he…” Woohyun begin to suggest but stopped midway when he made eye contract with Myungsoo. He knew if he finished that sentence his face was going to be hit with an iron fist, possible wrecking his pretty face. Myungsoo's face was stone hard, his eyes firey yet worry.

“He what?” Hoya questioned, Woohyun glared at him. Hoya was purposely trying to get Woohyun killed.

“No thanks. I want to keep my face in one piece. I like being the eternal stud you know.”

Hoya huffed out air as he paced back and forth, taking an occasional look down the hill towards Chorong, who was busy going from the next town person to the next. Apparently Naeun had gone AWOL after Eunji’s death.

The sun was halfway through the horizon, through it met a world of darkness, thick clouds hid any light from the world and soft feathery snowflakes fell endlessly. The world was being cover in black, losing any form of its colors.

Woohyun’s thoughts were on something else through. A certain girl who had robbed his brother’s heart. Jung Eunji.

He found it quite amusing actually, the fact that the town thought she was dead. But he knew better. Jung Eunji wasn’t truly dead.

“Hoya, no!” Chorong shouted blowing the man back with the wipe of her arm. Hoya’s back slammed against the wall denting the white materials.

“How long do you think the medical examiner will take?” Woohyun questioned peeking through the binds that showed the hallway. He had compelled the examiner to take a midnight snack, and the guard to move up to the ground floor leaving them completely alone.

“Long enough.” Hoya replied as he prepared to move forward towards the body. Eunji’s body.

“No!” Chorong exclaimed glaring at him. He questioned her motives. Wouldn’t she want her friend alive? Eunji was dead. But Hoya could change that.

“And why not? She’ll be alive. She won’t be a decaying corpse Chorong. Don’t you want that for her?” Hoya questioned, his eyes were jumping back from Chorong and Eunji.

The transition phrase for a vampire was simple. The first step was dying. You have to die first before you become a vampire. Afterwards, before your body goes cold a vampire has to all the blood out of your body.

Chorong gazed at Hoya, inspecting his motives. Myungsoo stood collectedly in the corner and Woohyun could care less. He asked the examiner to bring him back a cub sandwich, and clearly that was his main concern right now.

“I know what you’re thinking. And I want her to live.” Chorong stated firmly.

“Then what’s the issue?” Hoya challenged eyeing the witch mysteriously. He didn’t understand why she was doing this? All he wanted was for Eunji to be alive again.

“I don’t want her to be one of you.” Chorong lisped faintly, but they heard. All of them heard. And they couldn’t help but be the slightest bit sadden by her assertion.

“Well it’s either she becomes one of us, or she stares dead. Either way Chorong, I’m turning her, with or without your consent.”

“Okay. Fine. Turn her.”
