Blood. Life. Love. Us

She had to rethink every last detail with the most precise and open mind. It happened in the moment. It was frightening yet everlasting, satisfying and bewildering and magical. Gosh what was happening to her?

She was on a plane ride and the plane was rapidly falling into the mouth of the storm at speeds so fast she couldn't breathe or think. She was suffocating in her own life. Everything with Myungsoo flowed together, beautifully, effortlessly, and inevitably. And she was terrified of that. It was supposed to be anything but that.

She was falling for a vampire. Her feelings were toying with her mind. There was absolutely no logic to them. Then again, emotions weren'tfamous for having logic were they.

Naeun was in over her head and she had finally realized that. She was in too deep to go back now. There was no swimming back, no turning around. Either she continued now, or slowly drown.

Right now she wished she would had stopped. She would had stopped digging in, that she would had bow out, that she could had turn back.

Oh, what a fool she was. Falling for a vampire. She fell for a monster. No. Not monster. They couldn't even be considered monsters. They were lyrical, stunningly fantastic, crazily caring, astonishing, fantastic, and absolutely real in all ways.

She was drowning in a pool of fire, totally engulfed by them. By him. Kim Myungsoo. The mysterious new man in town who in every way had swipe her off her feet, mentally, emotionally, and literally, at one point.

"Naeun-ah." Chorong called out her name. She turned to face Chorong. her best friend's head fell on her shoulder. The two were in their own private little universe, taking in the whole of it.

"Will you be fine?" Naeun asked sincerely. Chorong chuckled as if Naeun’s question was an intended joke. Which in this case, it came with all seriousness.

“I should be asking you that.” Chorong commented.

Naeun frowned. “I….I’m tired of everyone asking how I feel. I…I don’t want to feel anything anymore.” Naeun replied. She was tired, exhausted, lost in her own mind, out of any hope or conjunction of normal logical state of mind.

“No you don’t. You want to feel. You want to feel it. It’s…just difficult right now.” Chorong commented. Chorong slowly closed her eyes. She was still taking it all in.

“These things aren’t supposed to exist you know.” Chorong mentioned the obvious fact that both understood to well. “Vampires…witches. There not supposed to exist.” Chorong mumbled softly.

“I told myself that same thing, when I first found out.” Naeun whispered to her friend.

“So why is that they are real?” Chorong countered.

Naeun thought about it for a moment. In the end, there never was a logical explanation for things. “Asking why will only frustrate you more.” She replied.

Chorong snickered. “Hell yes, it will. “ She mumbled.

“So, a witch. Not everyday you find out you’re a witch. And its not everyday you find out that a supposedly dead…things is using you.” Chorong chuckled while letting the forms drop off her lips.

She was trying to add a sense of humor to the situation, but none the less, it didn’t dampen anyone’s mood.

“I’m sorry.” Naeun muttered. Chorong frown and turned towards her friend.

“For what? None of this is your fault.” Chorong reminded. Yes, it was only hours ago when she had woken from a horrible nightmare that felt so real, too real.

It was only a few hours ago that she sat down across from Naeun along with Myungsoo and Hoya.

And it was only a few hours ago when she laughed at them, suggesting that they were insane.

Only a few hours ago had she realized the seriousness of the matter. That they weren’t joking. Then the pieces of the puzzle fell into place like a dam cracking bit by bit.

It was only a few hours ago that everything had been confirmed. She saw for the first time creatures that moved like the wind, stronger than human, with eyes as dark as night. Vampires. It was only a few hours ago that they had forced the reality that she was a witch, an actual witch.

So why was it that she was taking it all in so calmly. Why weren’t her nerves shaking with fear, her body suffocating with disbelief?

Because it was true.

“Chorong-ah.” Hoya’s voice interrupted the conversation. Both turned there shoulders back at the man. His face was a stone hard as ever. Something about his eyes ticked them off. Hoya didn’t miss small details, at least according to Woohyun he didn’t.

”Is something wrong?” Chorong asked. He huffed inwardly, hesitating to answer.

“I think it’s time for the two for you to return to town. People will start asking questions. And Eunji’s back. She’s clueless to everything. According to her, the three of you spent the day having girl talk." he answered. Something in his eyes darken at the thought of Eunji’s name. Something both girls noticed.

“And what if something happens?” Chorong asked. She was afraid. It was written all over her face.

“Nothing will happen. Trust me.” He said. Chorong was about to counter. In all truth, she didn’t trust him. She didn’t know him.

But Naeun trusted Hoya. Something about him, something about all three of them told her they were ones she could trust. “Okay.’ She answered.
--
It was amazing, the gifts of vampires and how they worked. Naeun wasn’t sure if she was okay with it yet. Eunji had no retaliation of anything that actually occurred today, only what she was forced to believe.

Mind control, it was. It was a completion of terrifying power in Naeun’s mind. Myungsoo had compelled her before. At the cemetery. So how was it that she remembered. Was it Hoya’s suggestion of Myungsoo’s lack of completion methods, or was it because of something else. It was a fine frenzy indeed.

“Naeun.” Eunji called for the nth time. Naeun blinked, snapping from her deep thoughts.

“Yes?”

“You should sleep. You seem out of it.” Eunji spoke. There was something about the concern in Eunji's voice that was oddly strange, at least for Eunji it was.

“What makes you suggest that?” Naeun questioned.

“I’ve been calling your name for the last three minutes.” She replied with a goofy smile. Had she? Naeun hadn’t noticed.

“If you don’t want to sleep, then we can talk. You can tell me about…Myungsoo.” Eunji suggested. Naeun’s eyes widen.

“W-What do you mean?” Naeun asked. She cursed herself upon realizing how guilty she sounded. But why was she guilty, she committed no crime, so what was this feeling inside her that was telling her she had done something wrong?

“You know, I think the man’s real something. All of them are, you know, once you get past all the mysteriousness. Especially that Myungsoo. There’s something about you when you’re with him.” Eunji revealed. Naeun couldn’t help but smile at Eunji’s comment.

“How do I look when I’m around him?” She asked. She didn’t want to pry, but at the same time couldn’t. She was changing her mind while on the free fall.

“You look worry, lost, inquisitive, blissful, content. It’s like every emotion possibly written down in the dictionary crosses you when I see you with him. I call that magic." Eunji revealed. Naeun smiled, a true smile.

“Magic huh?”

“Yeah. Magic. Nothing big, nothing bold, no odd shifting of the wind, no windows suddenly blowing up, no weird book that appears out of no where. But magic, the purest of magic. The kind worth holding on to.” Eunji explained. That was their life these days, oh, how odd it truly was.

She looked down to her lap, as if trying not to say the words out loud.

“What is it?” Naeun asked. Curiosity was written all over her. Eunji looked up, something in her eyes made Naeun’s heart suddenly rush with shock. Eunji’s eyes were watery?

“What’s wrong? Did I say something?” Naeun began panicking as she threw herself at Eunji, giving the other girl a tight hug.

“It’s just that our lives these days had been…strange, you know. It’s like walking through hell….but when I see you with Myungsoo, it makes me think back. “ Eunji explained. Her eyes were a thousand miles away. Her eyes were soft, venerable, they bared the innocence of a child, but the strength of a lioness.

“What does it make you think back to?” Naeun asked as she moved away from Eunji. There was a glint of something in Naeun’s eyes. Hope maybe?

“It makes me think back to you before your parents died.” Eunji replied. And that was all it took for the waterworks to start. They weren’t a rapid storm, a crazy tornado, no trembling land slides, just one single tear.

“I call that impressive for a man to do.” Eunji said with a giggle. Her eye smile showing as she giggled to herself. Naeun laughed. Oh, how she loved Jung Eunji right now.

“Come here stupid.” Naeun nagged jumping on top of Eunji. Eunji let out a loud laugh as Naeun began to tickle her.
--

Chorong paced back in forth in her room like the mad woman she was turning into. Don’t panic. Were the words that crossed her mind over and over again.

There, laying on her bed was a book. The same book Naeun had found at the library. What it was doing on her bed, she had no idea.

She was in the state of shock, her mind was floating with all sorts of questions, the last time she had touched the thing, windows blew up. Who the hell knew what would happen if she touched it again. She couldn’t bother Naeun. Naeun was with Eunji. Eunji, the girl clueless to everything that was occurring in their lives. She took a few deep breaths, her mind was a scribbling storm of emotions.

“You know you can burn a hole to the other side of the earth if you continue to trample back and forth like that.” A deep voice called out to her. She jumped in her spot before turning around. There, standing on her open balcony, was Nam Woohyun.
“What are you doing here?” She questioned. She didn’t trust the man, let alone want to be alone with him.

“How did you get in?” She asked only to regret asking. Vampire. “Sorry, I forgot.” She said softly. He raised an eyebrow at her.

“How long has that book been. He asked.

“It was here when I got here. I don’t understand. Naeun said it was at her place.” Chorong revealed.

“Yeah, it sort of follows it’s master. It’s like a pet really, one that never gets lost.” He explained.  Chorong stared from him to the book as if both belonged in a mental institute.

“Master? Pet?” Chorong questioned. She was becoming insane.

“It belonged to your ancestor. A powerful one at that too.  I only heard of it, you know, from your other ancestors. “ He told her.

“Other ancestors?” Chorong asked with a raised brow and certainly much inquisitiveness.

“You know. Park Jiyeon, your great, great grandmother. She didn’t like me much, she tried setting me on fire. Twice. And Park Gyuri, another one of your older ancestors. Didn’t like me much either.” He told her.

“I can see why they didn’t like you.” Chorong mumbled softly enough so no human could hear.

“I heard that.” Woohyun exclaimed.

Chorong huffed. “Vampires have super hearing?” She questioned. Her nodded.

“Among one of our many gifts.” He replied. “And yes, the windows blowing up at the diner, it was your fault. No, more like the book’s fault. It was like adding uranium to a nuclear bomb.” He said. He sounded like this happened everyday. His voice was light, calm.

“Take it. I don’t want it.” Chorong ordered. He pouted. She couldn’t help but think how adorable he looked while pouting.

“I know, I look cute.” He smiled as if reading her mind. dropped. They can read minds?

“No, but over a certain amount of time you start understanding things, even without the words. Humans can be so easy to read.” he mocked.

“Get out.” She ordered with a stern voice. He snickered as if she was joking.

“I don’t think so. Didn’t you want me to take that book with me?” He asked amused.

“Fine. Take it, and get out.” She ordered. He frowned nodding his head no.

“Sorry, but can’t touch the book.” he answered. Chorong huffed. She didn’t want the thing anywhere near her.

“And why not?” She asked. He  didn’t answer straight away, he was busy deciding how best to respond to her question first.

“Let’s just say, the book doesn’t really like vampires.” He replied. She narrowed her brows. That didn’t make sense at all. Then again, nothing did anymore, so she merely went with it.

“Then what are you doing here in the first place?” She requested.

“Just checking up on you.” He answered. He could almost sound like a gentlemen if she didn’t know better. He was a freaking vampire for god sake.

“Look, I don’t want to talk to you right now. So, leave.” She commanded. He was about to respond back when something in his eyes lit pure black. Chorong stumbled back. His eyes were black as hours of darkness. Sure she saw Hoya’s eyes like that earlier when he was trying to explain to her the existence of vampires, but there was something about Woohyun’s eyes that terrified her.

“I smell blood.” He whispered in a tone so dark and haunting she was truly terrified. He took a step away from her room. His back touching the railing of the small balcony.

“My parents.” Chorong mouthed as she ran out of her room.

Woohyun hissed trying to control the blood lust growing inside him. Something else crossed his sense of smell. Something familiar. Vampire. There were other vampires in town.
--

The pounding of the door woke her up from her sleep. Something was wrong and Naeun knew it. Some sixth sense ability took her something was terribly wrong.

“What time is it?” Eunji growled also waking up from her slumber.  Naeun felt like living in a de ja vu moment. This was all to familiar. She knew this too well.

Rushing downstairs her heart was pounding against her rib cage. The pounding on the door had stopped. Eunji was close behind her as she yanked the door open. Nothing was there but the wind.

That’s odd.” Eunji noticed.

“Naeun.” Myungsoo’s deep voice called to her causing both girls to jump in place as they turned around to face him.

“How did you get inside?” Eunji asked, alarmed and confused. Myungsoo’s eyes instantly fell onto Naeun.

“What the hell happened?’ Naeun asked. Something wasn’t right. Something about the air changed, it was life draining right now. Like poison slowly setting in to eat one whole.

“There’s been another attack. Chorong’s father’s in the hospital.” Myungsoo told her.

“Another animal attack.” Eunji mumbled as she began panicking. “We have to get to Chorong.” She said as she rushed upstairs to gather her belongings.

“There is no wild animal is there?” Naeun asked after a moment of silence. She still couldn’t bare looking in his eyes so her eyes fell onto the floor. She was such a coward.

He stepped closer to her, slowly touching her chin and bringing her face up to look him straight in the eyes. His eyes glowed pure black. But she wasn’t scare. She couldn’t be scare of him.

“I need you to trust me.” He mumbled to her softly. He was worried. She could tell. It was that something that was laced in his tone that affirmed it for her. Something was going on, and someone was bound to get hurt.

“I will always trust you.” She replied. He frowned at her answer. That wasn’t the answer he wanted. Did she say something wrong? What was it bothering him?

“Hey.” She whispered stepping closer to him. His body heat warmed her up.  It was like falling into magic. His magic. The most amazing kind of magic that existed.

“What’s wrong?” She whispered as she brought her arms around his neck. She could feel the tension leaving his body. He lowered his face to look her in the eyes. A pool of misery stared back at her.

“I have to leave town.” He muttered as if those words were killing him. Those five words were all it took for her heart to instantly crash. Her mind was turned into mush. Her body lost all its strength. What was he saying? He was leaving? Leaving town? Leaving her?

“Stay.” She pleaded. She hadn’t even realizing she was saying that. Her eyes stared up to him like a long lost puppy finally finding an owner.

“Please stay.” She begged. She felt no shame for asking. She wanted him to stay. She needed him to stay.

“Naeun…I’m sorry. I can’t.” He told her. His tone was lost, scare, frighten.

“Stay with me. Please.” She begged as her tears, the ones she hadn’t even realizing formed, dropped like crystals onto her skin. She thought she was done with crying, she was done with sobbing. She thought she was done with heart break and losing the ones she loved. She thought that as long as he was around she wouldn't have to feel like this anymore. She was wrong.
