The Promised ‘Date’

Chapter XXIII

“Wah!” Seohyun cheered as her eyes grew larger with amazement, Awe can be seen in her eyes as they scanned the paradise she’s in.  

The ride to the park was nothing but uncomfortable because no one dared to speak; Kyuhyun was too busy controlling his emotions and Seohyun was more than nervous to talk to Kyuhyun because of the dark aura covering him. But the awkward feeling a little while ago was gone because Seohyun was more than happy to experience what it’s like in an amusement park.

On the other hand, Kyuhyun can’t help but to stare at the girl beside him but he shook his head before any thought can even enter his head.

“Let’s go.” He said coolly and started walking ahead. Seohyun, however, did not budge from her spot, overwhelmed by the whole place. Kyuhyun couldn’t help but to sigh and to shake his head at the other’s childish behavior, yet, a little lopsided smile painted his lips, amused by the effect of the field to Seohyun.

“Hey!” He waved his hand in front of Joohyun’s face. The girl slowly turned her head to the Kyuhyun then she blinked at him and Kyuhyun could only take much that he burst out laughing. Soon enough, Seohyun’s cheek turned crimson red, embarrassed that she got too absorbed and amazed by the whole place.

“Y-yah!” She stuttered as she tried to hide her embarrassed cheeks and Kyuhyun couldn’t help but laugh louder. Seohyun looked around embarrassed and she saw people staring at them, weirdly. She looked at Kyuhyun then back to the crowd and the next thing she did was something she did out of humiliation ▬She covered Kyuhyun’s mouth and their faces went an inch closer; her face almost touching the back of her hand.

They stared at each other in shock for about half a minute before realizing they shouldn’t be that close to each other considering they aren’t even that close, emotionally. Kyuhyun was the first one to back away leaving Seohyun’s hand in the air, as the girl remained frozen for more seconds.

After regaining her consciousness, she slowly let her hand down before awkwardly clearing , avoiding gazing at her company. Same goes for Kyuhyun, he awkwardly shifted his eyes to the park, probably looking at anything but the girl beside him.

“Uh…” Kyuhyun muttered carefully and silently. “Well…” He continued before he uncomfortably clearing his throat.

“Let’s go.” He said before walking ahead, not even bothering to look back to see if she’s following or not. Meanwhile, Seohyun blankly watched his back slowly walking away from her and when he was more than 6 ft away, she snapped out of her trance and ran to catch up to him, not wanting to be alone in a pool of crowd.

“H-hey.” She quietly called when Kyuhyun stopped in his tracks. Kyu looked back with an unreadable gaze and Seohyun couldn’t help but nibble her lips in anxiety.

“What?” The other said coolly without taking his eyes off of her. He had a  hard time controlling his emotions but he praised himself for successfully putting on mask.

“A-about…” She stammered. “Uhm…” She tried to continue. “About earlier…” She breathed in and out then cleared before continuing. “I’m sorry if, uh, it made you uncomfortable.” She apologized before looking up to see his cold gaze and she felt it all again ▬that feeling of that certain someone staring at you and you couldn’t help but melt at his gaze.

She slapped herself mentally before looking up to him with the same gaze he has. After all, two can play the game he’s playing.

2 hours passed but the two hadn’t even had the chance to enjoy the rides in the theme park. Both lost their moods trying their best to win the who’s-the-best-on-putting-on-a-cold-mask game.

They’ve been walking for an hour but Kyuhyun ended up sitting in an open café when he said: “I’m tired of walking. Aren’t you, or are you still amazed that you want to walk by yourself? I promised to bring you here but I hadn’t promised to babysit you.” with his brow raised.

“What did you say?! You freaking made a deal that you’ll accompany me while I have fun!” Seohyun’s ears were now red in anger.

“I said I’ll only take you here but I hadn’t promised to let you have fun, didn’t I?” Kyuhyun said with a lopsided smirk covering his face which of course earned a death glare from Seohyun before she went her way.

 Seohyun, on the other hand, kept walking for another hour but she hadn’t ride anything because she was too afraid to ride anything ▬even the carousel. She sighed as she gave up, plumping herself at the nearest bench she saw. She puffed her cheeks and looked down, feeling really annoyed that she expected too much from Kyuhyun.

She was mumbling to herself, cursing the guy that she expected too much from, when a shadow covered the ray of light coming from the sun. She looked up to see the guy she’s most annoyed with, right now.

She raised her brow at him, questioning him as to why he’s there but Kyuhyun only give her a long stare.

“Are you gonna stare at me forever?” Seohyun raised her brow.

“Let’s ride something.” Kyuhyun said coolly before turning on his heel and walking towards the ride he wants to go to. Seohyun was left awed and didn’t even flinch at Kyuhyun’s words, astounded with Kyuhyun’s sudden change of mind. Kyuhyun looked back, still with his façade, and went back to hold Seohyun’s wrist to drag her to any ride she’d like.

“Come on, I don’t want to waste the unlimited tickets I bought.” He said, still pulling the girl who’s still flabbergasted with Kyuhyun’s change. It took her more than a minute to realize that the guy was holding her, but when she realized, she felt her insides clench that she quickly took back her hand. Kyuhyun, realized this too and he soon had a faint blush covered his cheeks. He cleared his throat awkwardly.

“What do you want to ride first?” He asked, keeping his voice stable as possible.

“Wait, wait.” Seohyun said, stopping in her tracks and Kyuhyun stopped, too.

“What?” He said, timidly.

“Are you bipolar or something? Why are you like that? Ugh, so frustrating!” She finally burst out. Honestly, Kyuhyun expected this and he already thought of an explanation. In the last hour of being alone, he realized that he was being harsh on the girl. Although what he said was the truth that he hadn’t promised that she’d have fun, he still felt guilty that he’d been nothing but a jerk to Seohyun ▬At least that’s what he told himself, that’s why he ran to find her and at least, try to make her feel better.

“Look, I just wanted to have fun, alright? The tickets shouldn’t go to waste, plus, it’s such a nice weather to throw away.” He said, not wanting to put his guards down but Seohyun does not intend to set her façade down either.

Kyuhyun scoffed at Seohyun’s childish behavior but he couldn’t let the day go to waste, can he?

“I’m sorry, okay?” He muttered as he looked at the petite figure before him.

“I’ve been a jerk and all but can we just enjoy the day?” He admitted. Seohyun couldn’t help but smile. “At least, he tried” She thought and finally let a small smile paint her lips.

“Let’s go.” She silently muttered and Kyuhyun couldn’t help but let a smile of relief.

The day went fast and they ride almost every ride there is. Kyuhyun let his guard down for the day and Seohyun did the same. He comforted her when she was too scared to ride the rollercoaster and she convinced him to ride the carousel with her. They ate a lot of sweets, too and bought matching headbands that Seohyun put in all her efforts just for Kyuhyun to wear a tiger-printed headband. Kyuhyun is happy and so is Seohyun,

“So what’s left?” Kyuhyun asked, pointing out which ride they should go last before they leave Seohyun’s paradise. He kept walking with ice cream in one hand and a tiger-print headband hanging on his head when he realized that Seohyun isn’t by his side anymore. He looked back, just to see Seohyun’s eyes twinkling at the sight of the Ferri’s Wheel.

“Want to ride that?” Kyuhyun nudged Seohyun’s side and he saw Seohyun’s head moved up and down, not taking her eyes of the giant ride.

“Let’s go.” Kyuhyun said.

“Is it okay to you?” Seohyun asked, carefully.

“Sure, why not.” Kyuhyun smiled warmly at her.

Lucky enough, there isn’t any line in the ride and they get to ride the Ferry’s wheel easily. When they hopped on, Kyuhyun sat by the door and Seohyun immersed herself to the view that gets smaller by the second. She smiled warmly before turning her attention to Kyuhyun who’s also engrossed to the small world below him.

“Yah! Cho!” She called him, like she’s used to but she had a smile that Kyuhyun have never seen before.

“Why?” He responded, trying not to look into her eyes, afraid of getting trapped. However, the next thing she did was the least thing he expected ▬ She hugged him; not a tight one, but close enough to make Kyuhyun’s heart do summersaults.

Seohyun slowly and shyly pried herself off of him and when she was back in place, she looked him in the eye and said: “Thanks”
