“Can’t You Forget Her?”

You Belong With Me

Chapter 5 – “Can’t You Forget Her?”

“Well if you don’t need me for anything, I’m out. Bye.” If she was just going to sit there and stare at him like that, she was wasting both his and her time. “By the way, you might want to close your mouth, flies might get in.” In the same way he had brushed her off right before they fell down the stairs, he slowly shuffled his feet away from her and gave her a halfhearted wave. He almost wanted to sprint away from her before she had a chance to respond. If he was to be completely honest with himself, he really didn’t want to do anything for her.

“Wait! There’s one thing you can do.” Yonghwa wanted to curse loudly at her for coming to her senses. “Yah!”

“Yah? Okay here’s one thing we are going to set straight,” he angrily began after turning around. “You’ve only known me for a week and I’m older than you. Why is it that I’m hearing informal speech coming out of your mouth?”

“Tch, you think I’m going to speak formally to you? Who is the one that is asking for favors here?” she sassily replied. “I thought you said you would make it up to me?”

“I did say that yes,” he responded in a know-it-all way.

“Then you’ll let me talk to you any way that I want.” Yonghwa supposed it was fair, even though he didn’t like it. He nodded his head in agreement and swiftly turned around to walk back to the car. He promised her one favor and that was it. Hyuna’s face went from completely satisfied, to outraged within seconds. “Yah!”

“What now?” Yonghwa asked in an annoyed voice. Hyuna may be pretty, y, cute, and every other endearing word in the dictionary, but none of that matter to him because her rude and obnoxious attitude was all he could see. He turned back towards her for what seemed like the hundredth time that day with a fake smile plastered on his face.

“That’s not fair. You said that you would make it up to me.”

“I am making it up to you,” he responded in the same way she was speaking. “You asked me to allow you to speak informally and I did. Problem solved, end of story, right?”

“No! I was already speaking informally to you anyways so I gained nothing. Anyways, here.” Yonghwa stepped over to her and took a small slip of glossy paper in her hands. He examined the shiny ticket and immediately shoved it back in her direction. Hyuna was not in the mood to play games so she shoved it back into his direction with a look of determination on her face. Yonghwa let out a pained sigh and restrained himself from shoving it back towards her.

“You really want to ask this kind of a favor?”  he asked in disbelief. As much as he really just wanted to tear up his ‘gift’ from Hyuna, trip her, and run away, he couldn’t. Why he had to be such a good and helpful person, he would never know.

“You said you would do anything didn’t you?”

“What time do you want me to pick you up?” he reluctantly asked, agreeing to her conditions.

He couldn’t help but feel wronged in the situation. He had done nothing wrong since he had met Hyuna. If anything, he was the one that was entitled to demand repayment from her. The gash on his knee from the fall was painful too. It wasn’t his fault she was too much of a spoiled brat to keep closed. If she hadn’t tripped him on the stairs, none of this would be happening. He had even saved her from that ape of an exboyfriend she had. Why was it that he was getting the short end of the stick?

“So you’ll do it?!” she asked as if she were a child being promised a trip to a toy store. His expression softened once he saw the way her eyes lit up in almost the same way Seohyun’s lit up when she was excited. It proved just how much Hyuna needed someone in her life. Yonghwa almost smiled when he realized just how much of a er he was for those big eyes of hers.

“Yeah, I’ll do it. Don’t think this means anything though,” he warned her. “I’m just repaying my debts to you. This means nothing. Once 10 pm hits that night, I’m out, no ifs ands or buts.”

“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” she cried out in excitement. The little ball of explosive energy began to hop around on the single foot she had free in glee. Yonghwa watched in horror as she stupidly missed her step and tumbled towards the ground dangerously. He quickly ran to her side and held her by the waist just as he had held Seohyun at the airport the other day. However, there was one thing that was different. He didn’t feel the need to quickly retract his hands from her. With Seohyun, he had felt that his hands were on fire the moment he touched her. Hyuna, however, elicited no such feelings from him.

“Aish… what did I get myself into,” he mumbled. “Yah! Be more careful. You’re wearing heels with a broken ankle! Why would you ever think that it’s a good idea to jump around like that?” She sheepishly smiled at him and tried her hardest to keep the blush on her face down. She noticed that he was still holding her hips, but she wasn’t complaining.

“Uh, th-thanks…” she shyly replied, a complete contrast to her standoffish attitude from a minute ago. “I think you should go now. Seohyun and Joon are waiting for you.” He nodded in response and finally removed his hands from her sensitive waist.

“I’ll walk you back inside. There’s no telling how much trouble you’ll cause,” he offered. Yonghwa almost laughed at her behavior. She probably thought that he was helping her out of the kindness of his heart. The only thing that was driving him to help her inside was his selfishness though. He didn’t want her to claim that it was his fault if she happened to fall on her way back in. Even if it was only at most ten steps to her door, it was better safe than sorry.

“Thanks,” she thanked once again.

“I would say it was my pleasure but it really wasn’t,” Yonghwa honestly, and almost rudely, replied.

“Aigoo Kim Hyuna, haven’t I raised you better than that?” Hyuna’s grandmother spoke up. “Young man, won’t you come inside?” Yonghwa looked inside the humble home and flashed the old woman a smile. Even if Hyuna was lonely, he could tell that her grandmother was the only thing she really needed in her life.

“Aniya halmeoni, he has people waiting on him. Oppa I’ll see you in a few days okay?” she shooed him away. He was slightly taken aback by the sudden ‘oppa’ but he wouldn’t question it. After all, he had no idea himself what he was doing either.

“Annyeonghigyeseyo halmeoni. I greatly appreciate your hospitality but I have friends waiting in the car for me,” he replied with politeness that slightly surprised the old woman. Younger people those days weren’t as respectful as they should be. She smiled slightly at the way he bowed deeply as if he were his own grandmother and bid farewell. “I’ll see you in a few days Hyuna.”

“Aish halmeoni, do you always have to be so embarrassing?!” Hyuna scolded the sweet lady once their door was shut.

“Hyuna yah, who is that young man? I haven’t seen him before. Is he a classmate of yours?”

“He’s Seohyun’s friend since childhood. He just came back from the United States and he’s studying at the medical school at my university.” Hyuna limped over to the kitchen to grab a drink of water and wrinkled her nose at the aroma present. She took a look into the worn out pot on the old stove and made a disgusted face.

“You should have let him stay for a bit of food. I made some kimchi stew with some of the leftovers from last night. It’s not much but something is better than nothing,” the elder explained. Hyuna stormed over to her grandmother’s side and put her hands on her hips.

“Grandma… how could you do this to me? You think you could serve someone like him that crap? Ugh, you really make me ashamed to be related to you!” she rudely and insolently yelled. Hyuna’s grandmother hung her head in shame and shuffled weakly over to the food that Hyuna had vehemently insulted.

“Hyuna, if I make you ashamed for your life, I apologize,” she sobbed in disappointment. “I’m sorry that I can’t give you the life that you deserve my little girl.”

“No grandma I’m not your little girl. You and my parents… what exactly were you all doing during your entire lives? Did you ever think once to get yourselves out of this miserable little hole we live in?” Hyuna’s actions were to the point where they were unforgivable, yet her grandma could only stand in the kitchen with a pitiful look on her face.

“Hyuna… mianhae…” she sobbed out once again. “I’m sorry that I made you live like this. Money isn’t everything sweetheart, do you realize that?”

“No, money is everything. Without money people will step all over you. Without money you will live worse than the dogs at the animal shelter. Without money you can’t do anything! That’s why I’m going to get myself out of this place.”

“Don’t tell me that’s why you’re friends with those kids from your school,” the pained woman asked in disbelief. “Is that why you’re friends with that Yonghwa boy?”

“Why can’t I be friends with them for that reason? Why can’t I like them for their money? Yonghwa is handsome, smart, and caring. He went to the United States to study and he even has his own apartment. He’s going to medical school and he’s probably even got a job as a doctor waiting for him when he graduates,” Hyuna explained. Little did she know that she was mistaken in half of her explanations. She mistakenly put together the wrong pieces to the puzzle, making her believe he was rich when he in fact wasn’t.

“Yonghwa didn’t seem all that rich to me,” the grandmother pointed out. “No rich person humiliates themselves by coming into a house like this one and bows down to an old woman they just met. All your other rich friends from school are rude and feel like they’re above us.” Something about Hyuna’s description of the boy was off in her grandmother’s eyes. After so many years of being alive, she was sure she could judge people at first glance. Yonghwa did not seem like the typical rich boy that Hyuna was used to hanging out with.

“He is Seohyun’s friend since they were kids. Joon is like a brother to him. Seohyun’s dad even says that Yonghwa’s dad was one of his best friends. If they lived in the same neighborhood, I’m sure that he’s just as rich as them. How else would he have his own apartment and even gone to study abroad?” Hyuna asked in defiance. She had no idea why her grandmother was questioning the way Yonghwa lived, but it didn’t matter. Her goals were clear. If she had to marry a rich man to get out of being poor, she would do it.

“I had hoped that greed in your heart went away as time passed. Even when your parents were alive you were never happy with what you had,” her grandmother remembered. “I hope you come to your senses soon Hyuna. Your whole life is going to be destroyed if you spend it searching for things that don’t matter such as money.”

“Don’t worry halmeoni. When I’m living the big life, you’ll see that all you were saying is wrong.” Hyuna angrily brushed past her grandmother and walked into the tiny room that she was forced to live in. The elder could only shake her head in disapproval and resume cooking her humble meal. She was old enough to know that people never changed, even though she wished they did.

Why: To celebrate the beginning of the new year with a blast!

Who: You and your date ^^

Yonghwa had read those black letters written on the white glossy paper for more than an hour as he waited for his ‘date’ to arrive. He originally planned to pick her up at her house, but for some reason the plans had changed. She said she would arrive together with Seohyun and Joon a little later. He regretted getting there early as he was now forced to wait outside like an idiot. Why he had accepted her offer to be her , he would never know.

“Guess who?” a male voice called out from behind as he put his hands over Yonghwa’s eyes.

“Let me guess, Hyuna?” Yonghwa sarcastically called out to Joon.

“Come on man, since when does Hyuna look like a total hottie like me?” Joon cockily argued. Yonghwa turned around to meet his two, well three, friends for the night. Joon was just plain old Joon in his eyes. He would complement him, but then again, Joon would just find that as an excuse to be even cockier. However, the two ladies by his side were a different story.

“Well how do we look?” Seohyun asked. Yonghwa had to close his eyes for a second and search for the will to get through the night safely. His heart was pounding fast as it usually did when he was around her and it was far too early into the night for him to screw things up.

“Stunning,” he blurted out, betraying the voice in his head. “Hyuna, you look pretty good tonight.” His dumb complement made him want to hit himself, but at least it would draw attention away from how he felt for Joon’s girlfriend.

“Are you saying I don’t look good every other time we meet?” she joked. Everyone present let out a small laugh and they began walking towards the entrance to the banquet hall. Hyuna took the chance to latch herself onto her ‘date’ for the night almost immediately. Seohyun and Joon whispered to themselves something that Yonghwa couldn’t pick up, but he knew exactly what they were talking about.

“Since when is it okay to invade people’s personal space?” he asked the girl fiercely holding onto him as if another woman would take her prey. Hyuna only looked up at him with those big beautiful eyes of hers and gave him a smile. He had to admit, Hyuna was very, very pretty. He couldn’t help but find himself the slightest bit attracted to her physically, but it wouldn’t go any deeper than that.

“Thanks for coming here with me. I didn’t want to come alone to something like this,” she thanked.

“What can I say? I was dragged here against my will,” he pointed out rudely. No matter how pretty or fun Hyuna could be, it didn’t take away the fact that he could not stand being at an event like that with her.

“Welcome everyone to the early celebration to the start of the new school year!” yelled out a very enthusiastic woman over the microphone. Everyone present turned their attention to the small woman on stage and began to clap loudly. “As you all may know this is being hosted by the business club here at the university so let’s give them a big hand for all the hard work they have put into making this event possible.” Another round of applause rang through the room with even a few cheers and whistles from the more excited students.

Yonghwa couldn’t care less about what the woman was talking about next. He noticed her still on stage moving at a hundred kilometers per minute, but he didn’t hear any of it. All he could do was think about ways he could get out of the situation earlier than the end of the party. He really did want Hyuna to have fun since he knew she needed to get away from all the problems in her life, but he couldn’t help but feel that he wasn’t the best person to do that. She needed someone that really cared for her to get her through life.

“You sure look like you’re having fun,” Joon pointed out with a nudge to Yonghwa’s side. “Trust me, I’m bored out of my mind too. At least we have some pretty nice eye candy with us huh?” Yonghwa only rolled his eyes again and threw a jab at Joon’s ribs. It kind of made him angry to hear Joon call Seohyun eye candy as she was anything but that. To him, even if Seohyun somehow became the ugliest woman on the planet, he would still have an unconditional love for her.

“Hyuna, I’ll come back once these people stop talking alright?” Yonghwa asked, as if almost asking her for permission. “I feel really stuffy in here with all these people. I promise I won’t leave you though.”

Hyuna could tell from the start that Yonghwa was feeling uncomfortable with the way things were going. She felt the muscles in his arm tense up in discomfort every now and then. Even the awkward position in which he was standing in screamed that he wished he were somewhere else. The distant look in his eyes only further confirmed her suspicions. Even if everything about him said he was ready to make a mad dash for the door and never come back, she believed him when he said he wouldn’t leave her. His voice… something about it assured her that he would definitely come back.

“Arasso,” she agreed with a guilty tone. Hyuna felt bad that she was basically putting him through torture, yet he was willing to stay for her sake. She would have followed him out for his stroll but as a member of the business club, she was forced to stay and listen to the welcoming speech. Reluctantly, her small hands broke the grip that she desperately wished she could hold forever and let him roam free.

“The things you do to be a nice guy Yonghwa…” he mumbled to himself once he was outside. Yonghwa looked around the outside of the auditorium and a path of stairs caught his eye. After the small climb, he found himself at a balcony that overlooked the main courtyard of the school. From there he could see the academic buildings in front of him, the administrative offices, and even the dorms in the distance. There the feeling of being choked vanished as he took in a breath of fresh air. He would have continued his peaceful alone time had it not been for the vibration in his jacket pocket.

You’re still the same as always. – Seohyun

What do you mean? – Yonghwa

You always disappear like this when there’s big events. Are you alright? – Seohyun

Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me, just have fun with Joon. – Yonghwa

You better not be lying. Hurry up and come back so we can party together. ^^ - Seohyun

I will. Don’t drink or else I’ll kill you. – Yonghwa

Alright I will ^_^. Just hurry up and get down here. – Seohyun.

Yonghwa decided to not respond to her last text anymore and put his phone back into his pocket. The more he interacted with her, the more he would fall for her. Why was it that just a simple word of endearment or one of those smiley faces she wrote while she texted made him love her more? Was he really just that delusional that he loved everything about her?

The distressed young man dug around his pocket to find one of his most valuable possessions. Ever since he bought it, he had never once gone out without it being with him. The metal trinket was cool to the touch, despite it being still the middle of summer. Yonghwa lifted it up to his eye level and watched it reflect a dim moonbeam back at him. It was a simple little necklace, nothing compared to the jewels that a wealthy girl would ever wear. Even so, to him it was worth more than all the money in the world.

---------Flashback----------

A thirteen year old girl happily walked around holding the hands of what seemed to be her grandmother at a first glance. Watching her skip around gleefully brought a smile to the older woman’s face. Even though the little girl had smiled all throughout the days she had been confined to her bed, the energetic bounce in her step made that smile believable.

“Seon Nyeo! Look at that necklace! It’s so pretty!” the girl squealed in awe. Seon Nyeo stopped to rest her eyes on the piece of jewelry amongst the busy crowd making their way back home after a long day at work.

“Seohyun ah, you have way prettier necklaces back home. Why do you want that one?” the old guardian asked. “It doesn’t even have any stones on it like the other ones you have in your jewelry box.”

“Aw, but I like that one,” the upset girl pouted. “I’m not asking you for it Seon Nyeo! I’m just saying that it’s really pretty. Right Yonghwa?” Both females present turned to see how the boy tagging along behind them would respond. However, he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the necklace that the girl showed interest in. It was a simple, yet somehow magically elaborate, piece of silver.

“Yonghwa did you hear Seohyun’s question?” Seon Nyeo quietly asked. Yonghwa finally came to his senses and blushed in embarrassment. Seon Nyeo looked down at him with an all knowing smile and gave out a light chuckle. For some reason nobody could see the obvious way that Yonghwa stared at the girl she had raised as a daughter. Maybe it was because she knew the two children so well that she could read Yonghwa like a book with bold font. It was the most obvious fact in the universe that Yonghwa had liked Seohyun since the moment he had laid eyes on her.

“Y-yes I did. That necklace is really pretty,” he stuttered out. “But you’re right Seon Nyeo, Seohyun has better necklaces at home. Your mom’s jewelry box has a lot prettier necklaces right Seohyun?”

“No! I don’t like those. Yonghwa, you’re a boy. Boys don’t know anything about being pretty!” Seohyun angrily yelled at him. “Come on Seon Nyeo, let’s go.” The pair holding hands moved away from the store’s window leaving Yonghwa to stay staring at it. The price tag on the simple necklace stood out at him, mesmerizing him until the number was engraved into his brain.

“150,000 won…” he muttered. “150,000 won….”

Every time they passed by that store, Yonghwa would notice the way Seohyun would throw a sideways glance at the tiny butterfly necklace. It was as if it called out to her, asking her to buy it. The butterfly wanted to fly away, to be released from the glass cage that it lived its sorry existence in. Yonghwa would stop by whenever he could and reaffirm the promise he made to that little creature aching for freedom. “Don’t worry little guy, I’ll have you out of here as soon as I can.”

An entire year passed by until he final achieved his goal. Being from a poor family, he couldn’t afford to blow 150,000 won in one go. The fourteen year old boy spent a year doing odd jobs here and there in order to let the butterfly behind the glass spread its wings. It was if the necklace was meant to be bought by him. All the other jewelry changed as the months came and went. Over the course of the year he saw as many as a hundred or even two hundred different necklaces surrounding the simple butterfly, but his prize always stayed there, waiting for him to set it free.

“The necklace is gone Yonghwa!” she cried one day after he had bought it. “Oh well…”

“Don’t worry about it Seohyun. I’m sure you’ll see it again,” he assured her with a smile. “Let’s go back home before your dad gets mad at me for letting you get home late.”

“What are you my bodyguard now?” the now fourteen year old girl asked sarcastically.

He yearned to give it to her. Yonghwa’s heart burned with anticipation of the brilliant smile he would get from her when he finally presented her with the pendant. Everything was all planned out and he hoped it would go his way. After all those years of hiding his feelings for her, he was going to confess to her. Even if it ruined their friendship, it was something he had to do. He just couldn’t hold it in anymore.

Seohyun’s birthday was a special day for both Yonghwa and her alike. It was a day that was reserved just for them. They had dinner alone and they spent it together, almost as if they were on a date. Seohyun had been the one to set it up like that. She wanted to share it with the one person she knew would be there through thick and thin. Sure her father and Seon Nyeo and her other friends were important to her, but Yonghwa was the most important in her life. She loved spending the day with him and watching how he tried his hardest to make her birthday the best day of her life.

That day was only a few hours away and neither of them could wait for it. Yonghwa had everything set up for the big moment. Sure he couldn’t do anything for her being of his low status, but he was sure the necklace would be more than enough. Then one of life’s cruel twists threw a wrench in his plans.

“I like Joon…” Seohyun shyly confessed to him the day before her birthday. There was only a few hours left in the day. The big moment was right around the corner. Why? Why did something like that happen? These questions and more flew throughout his mind as he heard the confession.

“Go after him,” he encouraged while making a subtle fist with his right hand, holding in his anger at the ridiculousness of the situation. All he could do was tell her to go for it. He couldn’t tell her to stay away from Joon. He couldn’t confess to her, it wasn’t right. Joon was his best friend as was Seohyun. If he confessed, he would be getting in the way. That’s all he was after all, just another person destined to be shoved aside into the shadows of those with high status.

---------Flasback End---------

June 28 was rolling around once more. That fateful day that had shattered all the hopes and dreams he had as a child. Yonghwa felt pathetic, useless, and stupid. When he realized how dumb he was acting over that woman that would never be his, he felt like he was wasting his time. Why did he have to suffer for someone that was never his to begin with? He had always preached about being strong in order to brave the problems that life threw your way, but why was it he was weak when it came to her?

“ing pathetic bastard you are…” he insulted himself. He took one last glance at the necklace in his palm before balling up his fist with the necklace in it. His right arm lifted itself up high and he readied himself to throw away the symbol of his rejection he carried with him for eight years. He pulled his arm back and tensed his muscles up in preparation for the toss. Just when his aim was ready, his arm gave out. He couldn’t bring himself to get rid of it even if it shattered his heart to just look at it.

“You’re madly in love with that girl aren’t you?” a delicate voice asked him from behind.

“Eh?” he asked when he was snapped out of his daydreams by the sudden question. “What did you say?”

“That necklace in your hand… it’s a woman’s necklace is it not?” Hyuna asked. Her heels clicked across the floor as she made her way to Yonghwa’s side, with a hint of a limp still present from her accident. She took his outstretched arm and brought it down to her eye level before giving him a reassuring glance.

“Hyuna, go. I don’t want to talk about this now.” Yonghwa turned away from her to walk away but was held back by a grip on his arm.

“It’s pretty,” she said when she managed to open up his fist and look at the necklace. “Although, it could be a lot more extravagant. You really don’t know how to win women over do you?” she joked. She wasn’t lying when she said it was pretty. However, she was far too materialistic to admit that it was enough for her. If Yonghwa were to give it to her, she would be slightly offended by how simple it was.

“Hyuna I’m serious…” he almost growled.

“Listen to me!” Hyuna yelled loudly. “You’re a pathetic loser! Why are you up here about to burst out in tears over this little trinket? Aren’t you a man? Well go ing act like one!” Her words were harsh, keeping Yonghwa wide awake through her cold lecture. Hyuna didn’t want to talk like that to someone she liked, but there was no other way that Yonghwa would listen to her.

“Hyuna…”

“I didn’t want to come up here and interrupt you at all. I know you wanted to be alone here all night long and wallow around in your misery. I wanted to respect your privacy, your decision, but I can’t.” Hyuna looked almost angry with the way her eyes glared at Yonghwa defiantly.

“You don’t know anything-” he began to defend himself.

“No I don’t,” she forcefully interrupted. “But I do know that you’re a better person than that. Yonghwa, I like you.” He was slightly taken aback by her sudden confession. Yonghwa had already been told by others that Hyuna was after him, but hearing it from her own mouth was much more eye opening. “I want to be the girl that takes that necklace from you. I would kill to be in her spot. I know I’ve only known you for a little under two weeks, but I believe in love at first sight.”

“I don’t know what to say to you.”

“Don’t say anything. Show me with actions, not words.” She placed her hands over his and closed them over the pendant he treasured more than his life. “Give this to her. Do it fast. The less you wait, the faster you’ll be happier.”

“…”

“I’ll be waiting for you. Can’t you just forget about this girl? The second you get rid of this, I’ll be at your doorstep waiting for your reply. I probably look like a after a hot guy right now, but that’s not what I want. I just want you to realize that there are other girls out there waiting for a guy like you to make them smile. Girls like me…” she shyly ended. Even though he was dumbstruck for her entire speech, he couldn’t help but give her a small smile at the way she became shy at the end.

“Wow, who knew a girl like you could be so wise?” he laughed out. “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I have to get rid of this the right way. If I threw it away here it would still continue to haunt me wouldn’t it? I’ll get rid of it in three days, I promise.” Just as he always did, Yonghwa put his hands into his pockets and began his slow walk away from Hyuna towards the stairs.

“Are you going to forget about her?” she whispered.

“I’ll have to try,” he answered back. “Aren’t you coming back in? Seohyun and Joon are probably looking for us.” Hyuna walked as fast as she could in her awkward step and took her place by his side. She was surprised with herself, possibly even more than he was.

The speech about being after a rich guy she gave her grandmother had been completely forgotten. She wasn’t going to lie to herself and say that she wasn’t interested in money at first. Her first thought when she saw Yonghwa was that he could be someone she could use to get out of her humble home. Now things were different. There was a small part of her that told her she could like him even if he were poorer than a rat on the street.

Author’s Note: So the plot thickens. Yonghwa still, sadly, is being quite the pathetic one, but I promise promise promise that it will go away in a chapter or two. Sorry for the lack of YongSeo. So I’m sure by now that everyone has learned to hate Hyuna as she is the bad girl after the main character’s man. I don’t particularly like her character (however I’m a  huge Hyuna fan in real life) but she has a point. Yonghwa is being a big baby and he just needs to set things straight. At first she wanted to just cash in on his money (or at least the money she thinks he has), but now things are different. Even if she’s kind of a , she truly likes Yonghwa now. Anyways, I should shut up now.

As a healthcare professional, it is highly not recommended (some don't even allow it as part of hospital protocol) for workers to look after patients who are either related to them or knows them (well) due to, as you said, it could impair their judgments and also, due to privacy issues. In reality, Yonghwa shouldn't have been looking after Hyuna in the first place. But I guess, since it's fiction, it's alright. Not many readers would know that unless they're aware of the legislations about things like this.
