Cold Feet

You Belong With Me

Chapter 16 – Cold Feet

Yonghwa had made a much larger impact with his words at the engagement party than he originally thought. All of Seohyun’s friends he ran into on accident would ask him if his words meant something else. He tried his hardest to not blush and stutter when he was confronted about his feelings. Even if everyone doubted him, he didn’t regret it. It was something that was long overdue.

There was one person who would never ask about the speech that Yonghwa had given. That person was his best friend, Lee Joon. The traitor had heard about how amazingly Yonghwa had delivered his congratulations and it tore him to shreds. From what he understood, the young man on the stage had praised him and his fiancée endlessly. There was one part in specific that he was glad he never heard. Yonghwa called him a loyal friend, something he wasn’t.

“!” Joon yelled in desperation. The situation he got himself into was completely out of control and he had no idea how he was going to fix it. Hyuna was breathing down his neck 24 hours of the day and the wedding was ever closer. Joon took a glance at his calendar and saw that he had less than two weeks to make a decision about his future.

Hyuna’s ultimatums were getting worse and worse each time. Joon felt cornered, but at the same time he didn’t want to give her up. His heart slowly opened up to her and he was sure he was in love with her. It wasn’t just about the anymore. The frustrated man genuinely loved her as much as he didn’t want to. This also drove him crazy to think about how Hyuna was spending time with Yonghwa.

Even though Hyuna was technically Yonghwa’s girlfriend, he felt outraged when he saw them together. Hyuna would act like a normal girl around him and Joon wasn’t fooled by her. Hyuna loved Yonghwa even though she claimed she loved him. Joon was dense, but even he could see that much. Their talk at the engagement party really shook him up since Hyuna had put her foot down.

----------Flashback----------

Joon walked out to the bathrooms farthest from the ballroom they were in and waited patiently for Hyuna. Even though he was faking being sick, he really did want to throw up. The fact that he was going to meet up with the woman he was cheating on his future wife with at his own engagement party made him feel disgusted. He felt dirty to even think that he was going to cheat on Seohyun while she was in the same building as him.

The familiar noise of Hyuna’s step in her heels began to echo through the halls and Joon readied himself for battle. This time, he wouldn’t give in to her. As much as he desired and loved her, he would be the one in control this time. No longer would Hyuna make him her pathetic little puppet.

“Hey there Joon. You don’t look too well,” Hyuna pointed out nonchalantly. Joon’s temper flared but he quickly calmed himself or else he wouldn’t be getting anywhere.

“Hyuna, this isn’t a joke. We have to be serious here,” Joon scolded her. Hyuna leaned against the wall and looked at him with a bored expression. She heard those words come out of his mouth so many times she didn’t even believe them anymore.

“This talk again? Joon, I thought we made it clear that this wasn’t going to end any time soon,” Hyuna interrupted him. Joon wanted to speak up but he couldn’t say anything. “I’m sure you understand that we’ve gotten so far with this that it’s impossible to break it off cleanly.”

“Are you threatening me Hyuna?” Joon growled through gritted teeth. Once again he had to tell himself to calm down or else he would be at risk of creating a scene. It only infuriated him more that Hyuna was treating this as if it were a normal friendly chat. He was trying to be as serious as possible but she was just playing with him.

“No I’m not. I’m just stating the facts. You know as well as I do that we have gotten ourselves into a huge mess with no real way out.” Joon wanted to argue back but once again he couldn’t. Hyuna was right.

“I should have never took your bait…” Joon lamented. “I don’t even know why Seohyun trusted you.” Hyuna scoffed at him with her continuously arrogant attitude and rolled her eyes. Joon knew she only used Seohyun because she was a rich girl that could make her more popular. What gave Joon the certainty that he wasn’t being used also?

“Don’t lie to yourself Joon. Before we even started seeing each other I knew you wanted a piece of me. I only made a move on you first because I knew you wanted me,” Hyuna pointed out. Joon blushed furiously when Hyuna put it in those words. He couldn’t deny that he had thought of her as a woman before, but he wouldn’t have acted on it.

Joon closed his eyes and pulled out all of the courage he had buried within him. He wasn’t going to let Hyuna corner him anymore. As much as it pained him to want to break it off, he had to. Hyuna was an amazing woman, but he couldn’t forsake everything in his life for her. “It’s over.”

“What was that?” Hyuna asked in disbelief.

“We’re through.”

“Yeah we are,” Hyuna agreed. Joon gave her a surprised look when she had suddenly agreed to his demand. He thought she was going to throw a tantrum and tell him that it would never be over. It even seemed a little too easy for her to say they were over.

“I’m glad you see it my way,” Joon confidently replied.

“I don’t think you understood me. I didn’t mean you and I would end our relationship. We’re through hiding in the shadows Joon. You want to know what’s over? We’re done cheating on our partners because you and I are going to go official.”

“Michyeosseo?!” Joon yelled back. Hearing her say those words made him forget that they were only a few meters away from the party where everyone they knew was hanging out.

“Yeah, I am crazy. I know you are too, for me that is,” she replied in a seductive tone.  Hyuna pushed herself off of the tile wall and walked over to Joon’s side slowly. Joon could have easily dodged her advances, but he couldn’t. Actually, it wasn’t that. It’s not the he couldn’t, but rather he didn’t want to.

“No, not here Hyuna, please stop!” he begged. He hated being powerless when it came to her. “I hate it when you do this. You , how do you do this to me?” Hyuna laughed at the pathetic way Joon begged her to back off. It was just too easy to get him to pay attention to her.

Hyuna put her hands around his neck and brought her entire body closer to his. Joon felt her soft s against his muscular chest and began to see stars. Hyuna was right when she said he was crazy for her. “Leave Seohyun,” she whispered. “Leave her now and marry me.”

“No… I can’t do that.” Hyuna tugged on his hair, pulling his head back in the process. She took that opportunity to plant a wet kiss on the exposed skin on his neck. “Hyuna we’re in public.”

“You can end this right now Joon. We could run away together and live happily ever after. Joon stop lying to yourself. You would love it if I was the one that slept next to you at night. You would go crazy every morning if the first thing you saw was the body that you knew could give you all the pleasure in the world.”

Fire raged inside of him and there was no way he could put it out unless he had her. She was right again. Joon knew he needed her. Even now he would go crazy if he couldn’t have her under him for just one night. “You love Yonghwa,” Joon pointed out angrily. This time his anger overpowered the desire he felt for her. He managed to throw her hands off of him and push her against a wall.

“You think so?” Hyuna cockily asked with a smirk.

“I know you do,” Joon growled. “I’ve seen the way that you look at him and it’s different from mine. You just want to use me. I know you imagine him making love to you when I’m with you at night.” Joon wasn’t lying when he said that. Sometimes when they were together Hyuna would almost say Yonghwa’s name and it drove him insane.

“I do-don’t,” Hyuna stuttered. Now it was her turn to be cornered. Joon pushed her further into the wall and gave her a look filled with a murderous intent.

“Could you leave him for me?” Joon asked angrily. “Are you willing to give him up to live with me forever?” Hyuna, for once in her life, hesitated to give him an answer. She knew Yonghwa was someone so dear and special to her. There was no way she could think of actually leaving him.

“Yes, I could,” she responded. Hyuna knew that it wasn’t her that had said those words. It had been her greed that told Joon she would leave Yonghwa. “Joon, you have only a few weeks to make up your mind. If you marry Seohyun, it’s over between us. I know you don’t love her anymore, so save yourself the trouble and ditch her.”

The traitorous pair glared at each other as if expecting the other to back down. “Bull!” he yelled back. “Can you do it Hyuna? Can you leave everything you have for me? Will you leave Yonghwa, your friends, and even your grandmother to be with me?”

“I can,” she answered with fake confidence. “Before the wedding day, tell Seohyun you’re not going to marry her. Break it off as clean as possible and I’ll marry you.”

“You aren’t serious…” Joon chuckled. In his mind, he never once thought of actually leaving Seohyun for Hyuna. His mind always told him that it would all end once he was married and everything would go back to normal.

“I’m dead serious. I won’t see you for these next weeks as punishment for doubting me. If you are a real man, you would face your problems head on. Don’t call, don’t text, and don’t look for me unless you’re ready to take me to be your wife.”

With those words Hyuna shoved Joon off of her and walked back to the party. Joon was left stunned by how the conversation ended. The part that scared him the most about everything was how he was actually contemplating leaving Seohyun for Hyuna. If Hyuna was willing to drop everything, including Yonghwa, maybe she was being sincere about it all. Both people were tired of having the same conversation for what seemed to be the thousandth time and it just needed to end once and for all.

----------End----------

“Damn it Joon what did you get yourself into,” he whispered while spinning in his office chair. He peered out of his fifth story window and wished he could leap off of it and die. Death after all seemed like the only clean way out of this. In the choice between Hyuna and Seohyun someone would get hurt either way and the mess would not be pretty. Joon almost laughed at how he was having cold feet about both Hyuna and Seohyun at the same time.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Seohyun currently dragged a bored boy across the sidewalk against his will to the bridal shop. It was a fact of life that men absolutely abhorred shopping, but that didn’t stop her from forcing her friend to come with her. “Yah Jung Yonghwa! Come on we have to shop for the wedding.”

Yonghwa finally agreed and reluctantly walked in a normal pace alongside the giddy woman. Ever since he had ‘confessed’ to her at the party, things had been a lot better. The wedding didn’t seem as painful anymore. It still did hurt to think the woman he wanted would never be his, but at the same time he was happy that she was happy. “Why the hell didn’t you bring your fiancé for this? Isn’t that what normal couples do?”

The pushy girl’s hands dropped to her sides when she heard those words. Yonghwa realized something was the matter, forcing him to stare at her now distraught face. “Joon is busy with work. He can’t come.” She sounded so dejected and upset, Yonghwa had no idea what to do. If only he hadn’t opened his big mouth, she wouldn’t be put in such a sour mood.

“Arasseo, woman! I’ll go with you!” he yelled back.

Her face formed a smile, but it wasn’t as big as it had been to begin with. Yonghwa knew this was all very important to Seohyun, or any woman for that matter. The woman he loved for years always told him how she dreamed of the day she would go shopping for her dress. Joon was a heartless bastard to not come do this with her. Without saying another word, the pair walked into the tiny shop full of bridal accessories.

“Welcome! Might I say that you two are possibly the cutest couple ever!” the overly excited store keeper greeted. Seohyun and Yonghwa both looked at the woman like she was crazy but kept all comments to themselves. “My name is Park Jung Ah and I will be the one taking care of you today.”

“Ne Park Jung Ah-sshi…” Seohyun hesitantly replied.

“Please just call me Jung Ah!” the woman suggested. “I want us to be as friendly as possible.” Yonghwa was close to just breaking out into laughter and dying. The woman was hilariously excited as if she hadn’t ever seen two people come into a bridal shop before.

“Do you have anything you’re looking for in specific?”

“I’m here to pick up an order. It’s for the wedding of Seo Joohyun and Lee Joon,” Seohyun responded. Yonghwa began to roam around the shop aimlessly. He had no desire to hear that outrageously happy woman speak. As expected, the place bored him to death with no way to escape the situation.

“Your fiancée is very pretty,” a delicate voice spoke out. Yonghwa turned around and noticed a small girl fixing up one of the mannequins on display. As she finished putting the veil as a finishing touch, she hopped off of her stool and bowed politely to Yonghwa. “You two look very happy.”

“Um, sorry but she isn’t my fiancée…” Yonghwa mumbled. The girl seemed surprised for a second and quickly bowed once more, this time in apology.

“Mianhaeyo,” she politely spoke up. “It just looked like you two were here to pick up something for your wedding.” Yonghwa scratched his head in embarrassment and couldn’t contain his blush. He wished the girl was right and that he was here to pick stuff out for his wedding. The flustered man took a glance at the dress that the worker had just put together and imagined Seohyun in it.

“Aniyo, she’s just a childhood friend,” Yonghwa sadly explained.

“Sun Mi!” the store manager called. “Could you help this couple with their order!” Sun Mi, the girl Yonghwa had been talking to, bowed once more and left to find something in the back. Yonghwa walked back over to Seohyun to stand beside her silently. Soon enough, the worker came out holding a few boxes that Seohyun requested earlier.

Slowly, the girl placed all the boxes on a counter and opened them up to reveal the contents inside. The first thing they noticed was that the largest box had the clothes that belonged to the main actress of the show: the wedding dress. Each of the other boxes contained either tuxedos or light blue dresses that he supposed belonged to the other members of the group.

“Everyone is going to look so beautiful in these dresses!” Seohyun squealed while picking them up. “Eun Jung and Jang Woo are going to be here in a bit to try them on. We have to take pictures!” Yonghwa smiled at the way Seohyun was acting towards what they would wear on her big day. He was glad that she was looking forward to it so eagerly.

“Would you like to try on your clothes before your friends get here? I’m sure the bride and groom would love to show off in front of them,” Jung Ah, the manager, suggested. Before Yonghwa, Seohyun, and even the worker, Sun Mi, could open their mouth to protest; Jung Ah shoved them into changing rooms with a few assistants.

“Jung Ah… he’s not the groom,” Sun Mi quietly pointd out. Jung Ah completely ignored the quiet girl and eagerly anticipated how the couple would look when they came out of their respective dressing rooms. Yonghwa on the other hand felt uncomfortable as the female assistants basically tore his clothes off and left him exposed.

“Don’t be embarrassed,” one of them said to him. “We see this all day long and we’re used to it. Don’t worry, we won’t hurt you.” Yonghwa nervously nodded to them as one of them ran her hands across his shirt in efforts to get a small wrinkle out.

Soon enough Yonghwa was pushed out of the curtains by the women and left him in the back lobby of the shop. The only thing present was a huge mirror on wall that allowed him to see what the women had thrown onto him. The elegant tuxedo hugged his body perfectly since it had in fact been tailored for them a few weeks ago. He ran his hands across the silver silk vest with a matching silver silk tie and admired the work that had been put into making it.

The women had even put a white pair of gloves on him and that’s when it hit him. Jung Ah had said something about him being the groom. He wasn’t wearing his clothes; he was wearing Joon’s clothes. Even though he was wearing the wrong outfit, he and Joon seemed to be the same size.  Yonghwa wanted to run back into the dressing room and tell them they were making a mistake, but something told him to stay. He kind of wanted to stand beside Seohyun and her wedding dress and imagine how it would be if it were him by her side.

“Waaaaaaaah! Yeppeuda!” he heard a few women squeal. “We haven’t had a pretty bride like you for so long. Your fiancé is probably going to have a heart attack when he sees you.” Just as they had done with him, Seohyun flew out through the curtains and stumbled to regain her balance. Sure enough as the women said, Yonghwa was on the verge of having a heart attack.

A strapless dress adorned the body of what to him could possibly be the most beautiful girl out there. Her neckline was visible, giving everyone a view of her modest cleavage. Her hair was let down with a few curls the women managed to throw on. The dress fit her body perfectly and the train seemed to go on for miles. In her hands was a cream colored bouquet of fresh roses that added just the tiniest bit of contrast to the entirely white dress. A tiara-like headpiece supported the veil which covered her face as well as the blush that adorned her cheeks.

“H-how is it?” Seohyun stuttered. She felt a little self-conscious with so many pairs of eyes fixed on her, but mostly because Yonghwa wasn’t even blinking while he stared.

“Is this really Seo Joohyun?” he asked in disbelief. “Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~! You look amazing!” Seohyun’s blush grew even larger and she was extremely glad the veil on her was completely covering her face.

“You two look so cute!” Jung Ah cried while holding a camera. “Would the groom like to do us a favor and lift up her veil?” Yonghwa paid no attention to the way the store manager called him the groom and followed the orders. Seohyun felt herself take a step back, but quickly shook the fear out of her body as he walked over to her.

“Yonghwa…” Seohyun whispered. “I think we should tell them they dressed you in the wrong clothes.”

Yonghwa ignored her suggestion and put his hands at the bottom of the transparent material. He slowly lifted the silky material and exposed her face to everyone around her. The women hadn’t been able to put too much make up on her since they were afraid of getting it on the dress, but Yonghwa didn’t mind. She was beautiful to him no matter what she wore.

“Perfection,” Yonghwa managed to say. “Joon is a lucky bastard.” Seohyun allowed him to throw the veil over her head and looked back up at him expectantly.

“Yes! That’s perfect!” Jung Ah squealed. Without expecting it, a flash went off as the excited store manager took dozens of shots from different angles. “You guys make me want to start a picture service too!” Finally the young adults realized they were staring at each other and they quickly turned their attention to the assistants in the room.

“Jung Ah-sshi..” Yonghwa began. “You’re making a mistake. I’m-”

“Give me a pose guys!” Jung Ah interrupted. Yonghwa and Seohyun gave her a confused look but agreed anyway. They hesitantly made a V sign with their hands and brought it up to their faces. “Come on! Give me some smiles people!”

Soon enough the lobby became a full blown picture studio. Yonghwa and Seohyun linked arms, made angry poses, made cute poses, made silly poses, and even y poses. Jung Ah made Yonghwa even put Seohyun on his back and give him give her a piggy back ride. The pair completely forgot about how they were supposed to just be trying on clothes and let themselves become immersed in the fun of the pictures.

“Okay one last pose guys!” Jung Ah cried as if she were a few meters away. “Please pick up the bride.” Yonghwa picked her up bridal style, causing her to blush again. “Now bride, please give our groom a big kiss on the lips!” This time it was Yonghwa’s turn to blush. As much as they wanted to tell Jung Ah that they should stop, something inside them also wanted to do it. In the end, Seohyun puckered her lips up and placed a small kiss on Yonghwa’s cheek.

Soon enough the commotion died down and they finally had a chance to rest. “Hey, why are you in Joon’s clothes Yonghwa?” Jang Woo asked from behind when he finally arrived. Yonghwa and Seohyun turned around to see him and Eun Jung standing there confusedly.

“Wait… you’re not the groom? You’re not Lee Joon-sshi?” Park Jung Ah asked in surprise. “Omo! I’m soooo sorry I made that mistake!” After a big fuss and many apologies, she shoved Yonghwa back into the changing room and forced him to change into his original clothes.

Eun Jung went into the dressing room with Seohyun to put on her sky blue bridesmaid dress soon after. “Seohyun are you okay?” Eun Jung asked while fiddling with the dress straps. “You know I’m a little disappointed in you.”

“Why?” Seohyun asked in a sad voice. “I’m sorry if I did anything to upset you Eun Jung.” Eun Jung smiled and shook her head at just how much of a little girl Seohyun was.

“Yonghwa… do you like him still?”

Seohyun’s eyes shot open and she slapped a hand across Eun Jung’s mouth. “Yah! Keep it down, there are people around.” Eun Jung threw Seohyun’s hand off and rubbed the pain out of . “Sorry, but you can’t say stuff like that around here. And no I don’t!”

“Those pictures Jung Ah showed us don’t convince me,” Eun Jung countered. Seohyun ignored her comments and continued to dress the girl up. “Listen to me Seohyun. You better stop playing around with Yonghwa. You two have been acting weird lately and people are talking.”

Seohyun knew Eun Jung was right. Ever since the engagement ceremony, she felt even weirder around Yonghwa. Everyone at school would ask her if they were secretly in love with each other. Even worse were the people that made up the rumor that Seohyun had actually seduced Yonghwa and they were in some sort of occult relationship.

“Eun Jung, I’m marrying Joon in less than two weeks. I’m sure I know what I want by now,” Seohyun confidently replied.

“Don’t think I can’t see your cold feet. You better be right about this girl. It determines your entire life.”

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Jang Woo and Yonghwa spent a few more agonizing hours at the bridal shop as Eun Jung and Seohyun scoured the entire store for who knows what. After a few hours of whining, the girls finally realized it was time for them to go and practice for the performance they would be putting on at the wedding. If Jang Woo and Yonghwa hated the bridal shop, they hated the idea of practice even more.

“Can we just go home and sleep please?” Jang Woo groaned. “I don’t like dancing and you know it Eun Jung ah.” The girls paid no attention to the whining they heard behind them and continued on to the dance practice room at the university.

“No pabo! We have to practice or else we will look really stupid out there if we mess up. Joon and Hyuna have really been missing out on these though,” Eun Jung pointed out. Normally, people would be suspicious about how those two seemed to always mysteriously be ‘too busy with work’ all the time. However, nobody in the group really made anything of it.

“ing hell…” Jang Woo cursed. “I hate my life right now.” Yonghwa completely agreed with him, but he didn’t say anything in fear that the women ahead of him would yell back. He absolutely abhorred dancing. He hated it more than shopping, but he had to do it.

They eventually reached the practice room and began to play the music that they would be using to guide their dancing feet. The music first started with a very slow and classical tune that they would waltz to. Then it would pick up speed into a classy jazz tune. Finally, it would transform into y tango sequence in which Seohyun and Joon would have a solo performance.

Hour after hour the four friends practiced until their feet hurt. Jang Woo complained as usual and Eun Jung scolded him for being such a baby. Even though the two men hated dancing, Eun Jung had to admit they weren’t half bad. Sure they could be a billion times better, but it would do for the performance.

“Can we go home now?” Jang Woo whined for the thousandth time. “We’ve been here for three hours and I’m so hungry.” Eun Jung took a giant gulp of her water bottle and nodded at him. She was also exhausted and famished from all the moving around they had done that afternoon. Her shoes squeaked across the smooth dance floor as she walked towards the door with Jang Woo.

“Guys we’re going to head on out. Are you going to come along with us?” Eun Jung asked. She was honestly a little apprehensive to leave Seohyun and Yonghwa alone together. They both had something going on and it would be bad if they acted on it.

“We will stay for a little while longer,” Seohyun responded. “Yonghwa still can’t get the transitions right and I have to practice the dance in heels. We will be sure to head home in half an hour.” Eun Jung nodded and reluctantly closed the door behind her.

“Aigoo, I’m so beat,” Yonghwa groaned while plopping down on the hard floor. “I can’t believe you girls are doing this in heels. My feet would probably fall off.” Seohyun giggled at his complaining and sat down next to him.

“Don’t worry, we’re used to it. Hyuna always wears heels and she’s a dance machine. I’m sure she will be fine if that’s what you’re worried about.”

“Ani, I’m more worried about you,” he admitted.

“Hey, should we practice the routine together since we don’t have our partners here,” Seohyun suggested quickly. Seohyun tried her hardest to keep the conversations away from anything that could potentially cause more confusion in her head.

In the beginning her suggestion seemed pretty innocent. However, the more she thought about it, the more it seemed like a bad idea. Eun Jung had warned her to not be too close to Yonghwa or else something bad could happen. Even so, a little naughty voice in her head told her it would be fun to see that ‘bad’ event happen.

“Um… I don’t know the solo part. Besides you know I can’t dance,” Yonghwa tried to brush off. Seohyun stood up and pulled Yonghwa up so they could practice together.

“I haven’t won any dance competitions myself you know,” she joked at him in an effort to encourage him. “Come on, we will be fine.”

Yonghwa nodded as she went to turn on the music for the last time that night. The apprehensive boy placed one hand on her hips and held her right hand as they swayed to the tune of the music. In order to keep himself from staring into her eyes, he looked down at his feet and recited the periodic table of elements in his head.

“Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon… Don’t look at her eyes Yonghwa. Just stay focused on the music and keep on avoiding her…” he thought to himself.

Soon enough, the music changed pace and the saxophones indicated the jazz number had started. This is where the dance started to get a little too heated for his sake. The music was classy, yet seductive at the same time. Seohyun was coming too close to him for comfort and even reciting the periodic table at double speed wasn’t helping him avoid her eyes.

Then the tango performance began. This time around, there was no way Yonghwa would be able to avoid contact with her. Her legs kept on brushing past his and there was even one part where he had to almost hug her and feel her s against his chest. “Seohyun, we should stop,” he suggested. “I don’t know this part of the dance.”

“It’s almost over,” she defended. “We’re doing fine.” In reality, she was doing just as bad as he was. Her heel clad feet skidded across the surface of the wooden floor ungracefully as she tried her hardest to focus on her footwork. Seohyun realized she had gotten close enough to him smell his manly musk mixed with the familiar smell he normally gave off. The heat in her face was getting to the point where it threatened to knock her out, but she tried her hardest to finish what she started.

Yonghwa’s lack of knowledge of the dance was evident in how he almost tripped the girl he was holding onto a few times. The music kept picking up in pace, but Yonghwa could not keep up at all. After one fatal move, his foot hooked onto Seohyun’s and sent them tumbling towards the ground.

When they pair opened their eyes, the noticed that they were as close as they had ever been in their lives. Seohyun fell on top of him while he wrapped his arms around her to protect her from hurting herself. “Kwaenchanha?” she asked in a worried tone. The young man had fallen on his back with all of her weight on him. It would be a miracle if he wasn’t’ hurt.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” he replied.

Once again, for the millionth time, they found themselves staring at each other. This time, though, there was nothing present that could break their gazes. The only people present in the abandoned art building of the university were them. Nobody else could possibly be there on a Sunday night.

“Yonghwa…” Seohyun whispered. “You can let go of me now.” Yonghwa completely ignored her words and continued to hold her in a vice grip.

“What if I don’t want to?” he replied boldly. “What would you do then?”

“This isn’t funny Yonghwa,” she spat back. “I remember when you played that little joke on me when I was fixing up your lip after Hyuna’s boyfriend punched you. Your little tricks won’t work on me.”

Yonghwa tuned out her words and continued to stare at her without blinking. This time, Seohyun stopped trying to get away from him and stared back. It wasn’t a defiant look they were sharing. The last times they had been like that, it had been to see who would pull back first. This time it almost seemed like they were trying to see who would make the first move. They both heard each other gulp and felt the way their hearts were racing against each other.

“Yong…”

“Hyun…” he whispered back.

Then both of them did something that surprised one another. Seohyun’s face moved down slowly as Yonghwa’s moved up at the same pace. After what seemed like a minute of their faces only a hair apart, the distance finally closed. Both of them placed their lips on each other’s and shared a sweet kiss. The sensation of the kiss was almost enough to  cause them to faint.

For Seohyun, the kiss was stronger than anything she had ever felt with Joon. So many emotions rushed through her body that she couldn’t even pick them all out. She felt safe and protected. Warmth was transferred from his lips to hers. The nerve endings in her entire body began to tingle as she felt like deepening it and giving herself to him.

Yonghwa felt the rush of finally kissing the girl he loved for 15 years. It was honestly better than he had ever imagined it. It was so much different than the kisses he shared with Hyuna that he never wanted to let her lips go. The sweetness of her lip gloss made him want to eat her silky lips off over and over. He felt the way the girl kissing him opened for him to deepen the kiss and took the opportunity with pleasure.

The pair remained like that on the floor until Yonghwa sat up and pulled her up with him. His hands naturally s up to her long locks of hair while hers did the same. Pleasure and curiosity drove them to pull each other even closer if it were possible. Finally they both pulled back and noticed the hazy look in each other’s eyes. Seohyun even managed to his lip a little nibble they pulled back as if asking him to never break the contact between their lips.

After the kiss was over, the two pushed each other away simultaneously and took a gulp of water from their respective bottles.

“I’m sorry!” they both yelled at each other when they swallowed the water in their throats.

“I’m so sorry Yonghwa! I got a little carried away… I thought about how I would do the dance with Joon and it caused me to imagine that he was you…” she lied.

She had to make up an excuse or else she would be stepping on thin ice with Yonghwa. They were best friends and nothing more. Seohyun didn’t want to make things awkward with him at all or else their friendship would be ruined. It hurt Yonghwa to think that she was thinking about Joon the entire time, but it was for the best. None of them could actually admit they liked the kiss they shared.

“Me too! I was thinking about Hyuna and it just happened,” he explained.

He too was lying, but it was justified in his mind. Seohyun was getting married in around 10 days. He felt like he had betrayed the entire country when he realized he just kissed his best friend’s fiancé. He took a quick glance at the girl’s hand and noticed the engagement ring and sighed. That brought him back down to Earth quickly. That symbol of her being taken calmed him down and made him realize he had just screwed up big time.

“Let’s just forget this happened,” Seohyun suggested.

“Yeah, let’s do that,” Yonghwa agreed.

Now that the tension had skyrocketed between them, there was no possibly way they would be able to continue the practice. Seohyun caught the hint and began to pick up her music player she brought. Yonghwa tidied up the things they moved and headed towards the door.

“Hey I forgot that I had to do something in the lab for tomorrow,” Yonghwa lied. “I’m going to head this way.” Yonghwa didn’t actually have to do anything, but he figured it would give him an excuse to not have to walk with Seohyun to her car.

“A-alright…” Seohyun agreed shyly. “I’ll see you at the next practice.” She sighed a breath of relief when she realized she wouldn’t have to deal with the awkward atmosphere between them.

“Yeah, see ya.”

“Pabo! Pabo! Pabo!” Yonghwa yelled to himself once he exited the building. “This is unforgivable! You just kissed your best friend’s fiancée. Damn it Yonghwa you’re such garbage.”

Author’s Note: So we finally got a kiss between them. I would have made it hotter but that would be wrong. In my mind I think it’s okay for them to do this because Hyuna and Joon are doing things that are even worse than that. Then again, Seohyun and Yonghwa are good kids and they can’t do bad and naughty things. Next chapter there will be HUGE a bomb dropping so I hope you guys are ready.

Also sorry I’m updating so late. I usually update around 9-10am where I live and now it’s 11pm. Something came up and I didn’t have a chance to update until just now.

Chapter 35: Wahooo, finally reached the end! This story had so much pining, drama overload and plot shenanigans that I thought my head was gonna explode before reaching the end. Lol, great job and I'm glad you've finished it honestly... There are some absolute genius stories out that are incomplete and have been unfinished for years... So once again great job...

Chapter 21: I'm quite happy if he ends up with min young tbh. At this point he has spent way too much time pining.

Chapter 11: That was like a personality transplant ... So he's pretty much lying to himself and hyuna... This could get interesting ...

Chapter 27: Hmmmm there is a slight error here though. As a healthcare professional, it is highly not recommended (some don't even allow it as part of hospital protocol) for workers to look after patients who are either related to them or knows them (well) due to, as you said, it could impair their judgments and also, due to privacy issues. In reality, Yonghwa shouldn't have been looking after Hyuna in the first place. But I guess, since it's fiction, it's alright. Not many readers would know that unless they're aware of the legislations about things like this.
