Of The Guardians: Inheritor [Being Made Into a Novel Series]“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn't stop for anybody.”
- Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
"H-Hello," you said, bowing your head quickly. "Thank you for helping us." The man's mouth formed into a handsome grin and chuckled. "It is no trouble, really. And do not worry, I shall take extremely good care of your friend." You nodded your head as you stared at Luhan's pale green face. His skin had become clammy, his hair had also lost color; it looked lifeless. You bit your lower lip to prevent from whimpering in sadness.
A pair of arms wrapped themselves around your waist from behind. You jumped from the sudden contact, eyes darting back to be greeted by a pair of brown eyes. Baekhyun grinned and poked your cheek. "Don't do that. Your lip is going to bleed." You blinked and lowered your head in embarrassment. "Stop harassing her," Kai huffed. He grabbed Baekhyun's arm and pulled him away. "Stop nagging me!" Baekhyun whined, ripping his arm away from Kai. Tao rolled his eyes as he took a seat in one of the chairs across from Luhan's bed. You walked over and decided to sit beside him as Lay began working on Luhan.
Lay took several strange-looking instruments of glass and metal and began to put them onto Luhan's body, reading what the gauges measured. "Hm..." he hummed to himself, eyebrows furrowing as he looked back and forth from Luhan's body and the instruments. "Not good..." he muttered before putting the tools down and running over to the other side of the room. There were tables and tables of books and glass containers spread out across the room. The healer began grabbing several books and pulling out a few glasses of liquid. He then threw off all the books laying on one of the tables and placed the newly grabbed items on it.
"Sterrith... and Glockleaf..." he whispered, reading off a recipe from one of the books. He took those ingredients out of the glasses he had opened and began sticking them into a pot. "Terrmur powder... 2 ounces..." More and more items were thrown inside the metal pot. Lay then took it and placed it on top of a stove, in which he boiled the items into a purple liquid that had already begun to bubble.
Tao looked at you with a questioning glance. "That's supposed to cure Luhan? It smells awful!" he said, making a disgusted face as his nose scrunched up. You smacked his arm lightly. "Shhhh! I know you and Luhan don't get along very well, but at least stay quiet while the healer is working!" you hissed. He rolled his eyes and stuck his tongue out at you before leaning his head back and closing his eyes. "We've gotten better for your information," he sneered before breathing lightly and taking a nap.
"You don't have to stay here, you know; there are rooms prepared for you guys to stay in for the time being," Lay called from the far side of the room. He was mixing the purple stew and adding a few more drops of a green fluid into it as you shook your head and answered, "That's all right. I feel more comfortable here with Luhan." Lay looked up at you; his green and blue eyes sparkled with happiness. "You must be a wonderful friend to him. I'm sure he will be absolutely thrilled to see you when he wakes up," he said. "Feel free to look around if you wish."
Lay had now hooked the pot of purple liquid into contraption that caught the steam that rose from it into a glass bowl. The bowl would make the steam condensate into drips of liquid, which would then fall into a glass bottle, which was already half way full. You tilted your head curiously, wondering what he was trying to accomplish. Lay must have seen the curiosity in your eyes because he chuckled. "The clear liquid you see dripping into this bottle is what I am going to be giving your friend. It is the pure form of nutrients that were in the ingredients that I mixed in the pot." You flushed lightly in embarrassment and nodded your head.
