Reminiscing
It started with...A Lie {completed}
“Chelsea. Chelsea.” Jaejoong called my name repeatedly to get my attention.
“Yes?” I answered half-heartedly.
.
.
.
I was new to this school.
Jaejoong couldn’t enter with me. Because his Chinese standard wasn’t on par with the other students.
I felt so…so lonely, so…afraid.
I was afraid that all the other kids here would laugh at me like the rest last time.
I avoided all of them at all cost, and they stayed away from me as though I was a plague.
But I was thankful for that.
At least no one mocked me.
Today was another ordinary day.
I was having Science lesson.
My weakest and most dreaded subject.
I sat at the back last spot, alone, praying hard that he wouldn’t call me.
“Xin Lin. Stand up please.”
Mr. Chen’s order almost killed me.
I felt for my legs, and stood up timidly.
My eyes avoided the gaze many classmates, whom I’ve yet to know even after a year, set on me.
“Name me one thing that a plant cell contains which is not found in a animal cell.”
“It’s Cell Wall, and Cell Membrane, Sir.” I answered softly.
“Louder please. I don’t wish to lip-read.”
“IT’S CELL WALL AND CELL MEMBRANE SIR!” I shouted, sincerely hoping that he’ll hear me this time so that I wouldn’t have to repeat myself again, and that means that I could sit down faster.
“I asked you to say it once more, louder, but I didn’t ask you to shout.”
I bit my lower lips uncertainly, I swore I could hear snickering coming from the whole class.
“DETENTION, CHELSEA.”
And I hung my head down low in embarrassment.
I have never been in a detention before.
Never. Never in my life.
I stared at the school map I received on the first day of school, trying to figure out where the staff room is.
Or rather, where the detention room is.
I literally buried my whole face into the map, not looking where I was going, until…
“Boomzx.” I crashed into someone.
I rubbed my head slowly,
“Watch where you’re going next time.” I heard that person say.
Was he mocking at me?
Should I ask him how to get to the detention room?
I felt the person walk past me, and I saw no one else around here.
“Hey. Hey!” I shouted.
He stopped, and turned around.
“Were you calling…me?” He asked.
I nodded my head slowly.
“Then I’m not ‘Hey’. I’m Arron. Arrom Yan.”
He moved closer to me, holding his hands out, offering a handshake.
I pushed my nerdy spectacles up, and cleaned my hands on my shirt.
“Hi. Hi…I’m Chelsea. Chelsea Yan.”
He chuckled softly to himself. And I raised my eyebrows to question him.
“Chelsea Yan?” He repeated incredulously, “Do you happen to have the same surname as me?”
My face flushed awkwardly, “No. No. I mean…I mean Chelsea Tan.” I corrected.
He grinned at me.
Only then did I realize why the girls went goo-goo-ga-ga over him.
He was…charming.
Not in terms of facial features only, but character-wise as well.
He was the first one. First one who treated me normally like a human other than Jaejoong.
“Hey. I notice you like to do that a lot when you’re nervous, eh?”
“Do what?” I asked, still staring into his captivating eyes.
“Your hand thing.” Arron answered, imitating my habit of pinching of hands.
“Yeah. Habit.” I explained and slid both my hands into my pockets.
“Let’s go. Somewhere.” Arron said as he took my hands and pulled me along with him.
And I let him.
I don’t care where we’re going. All I care is whether you’ll be with me.
He led me to a garden.
A garden I didn’t know exists in the school.
It was so beautiful.
The sun was shining so brightly,
providing the plants all the sunlight it needs.
“Why are we here?” I questioned even though the answer didn’t matter.
He smiled charmingly at me.
“Stay.” He said.
And I stood down there waiting for him obediently.
My eyes followed him as he went into a small tent at the corner of the garden.
I felt unsecured when he left.
Was he leaving me?
Was this a trick?
Was he trying to make fun of me by luring me here?
Will a huge crowd appear and make fun of me?
I wavered uncertainly.
“What had I gotten myself into? Why did I trust him so much?” I started questioning my sanity a moment ago.
As I was about to make a run for it in fear, Arron emerged out of the tent.
He was holding a guitar.
“Come sit here.” He said, patting the seat beside him on the bench.
And then he started playing for me.
“旋轉木馬拼命奔跑
xuan zhuan mu ma ping ming beng pao
每一步換一陣熱鬧
mei yi bu huan yi zhen re nao
雲霄飛車瘋狂轉彎
yun siao fei che feng kuang zhuan wan
聽一聲顫抖的尖叫
ting yi sheng chan dou de jian jiao
我 只是摩天輪 靜靜等著誰來到
wo zhi shi mo tian lun jing jing deng zhe shei lai dao
當 她降臨懷中
dang ta jiang ling huai zhong
我的心開始孤單的跳
wo de xin kai shi gu dan de tiao
再一圈 再飛一圈就好
zai yi quan zai fei yi quan jiu hao
她無助眼神還沒有依靠
ta wu zhu yan shen hai mei you yi kao
我多想 伸出雙手給她
wo duo xiang shen chu shuang shou gei ta
一個緊緊擁抱但我做不到
yi ge jin jin yong bao dan wo zuo bu dao
再一圈 再陪陪她就好
zai yi quan zai pei pei ta jiu hao
讓我可以揚起她沉重的角
rang wo ke yi yang qi ta chen zhong de jui jiao
不怕她的眼淚 讓我的心生銹
bu pa ta de yan lei rang wo de xin sheng xiu
遊樂場打烊後誰會知道
you le chang da yang hou shei hui zhi dao”
By the time he was done, I was staring at him in awe.
My mouth slightly ajar with the admiration I had for him at that moment.
“Wow.” I finally managed, “That was…really great.”
He smiled sheepishly.
“I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar.” I confessed softly.
“I can teach you.”
“Really?!” I exclaimed. Excited that I was one step closer to my long-lost dream.
He chuckled softly once more, and that brought color to my face.
“Do you always do that to girls?” I asked, my curiosity level too high to be ignored.
“You mean the guitar?” He asked, and I nodded my head.
He grinned embarrassingly at me.
“You’re the first.”
.
.
.
A smile was plastered one my face unknowingly.
That, was the starting of us.
Arron, and I.
