DOYEON: “Well, that backfired,” I think to myself as I stare at the die on the table. I had hoped this little thing with the die would distract everyone from the tensions in the group, but instead the stupid little thing brought out the worst possible result on the very first roll! Come on somebody! Do something! But apparently everyone else is just as paralyzed as I am right now. Finally, Lua manages to do something. She picks up the die and starts dancing and shaking it, chanting “Every time yeah? Every time yeah!” Everyone starts smiling, and she rolls the die. “Elly!” she tells after reading the die. “You’re my baby tomorrow!” Fortunately, Elly understands the mission. She throws her hands up and presents to be horrified, crying “Oh no!” After that, the ice was broken. Yoojung picked it up and rolled it. It took her several rolls to finally get someone who hasn’t already been paired up, and ends up paired with Sei tomorrow, which means my “date” for tomorrow will be Rina, which is about the best I can hope for, since Yoojung’s still pissed at me. At least Rina isn’t a player in the Suyeon/Sei/Lucy love triangle. “Okay that’s done!” Yoojung says. “Now everybody out of the kitchen — we’ve got a day off today and I want to make brownies!” I check the time. Yep, it’s time. “Come everyone!” I say as I head for the common room. “The Olympics are on! Women’s hockey!” If watching a bunch of women on ice skates beating the crap out of each other doesn’t distract everyone for this morning’s drama, nothing will.” SUYEON: Flip. Flip. Flip. Flip. There’s nothing good on TV. Everyone scattered once the hockey game ended — Sweden won. I owe Sei a coffee. — and now I’m waiting for Sei to get out of the shower. After the excitement of this morning, this has turned into the most boring day every. Suddenly my stomach rumbles. It’s not time for dinner yet. But it’s far enough ahead of dinner that I can have a snack. I head to the kitchen to see what I can find, and on the counter I see the brownies that Yoojung was baking earlier. I should probably have something healthier, but a brownie sounds delicious right now. I’ll skip a meal late in the week if I have to — but I shouldn’t have to. One brownie won’t kill me. I peel back the plastic wrap and take a brownie. I move the next one over a little bit, so it’s not so obvious that one’s missing. I take a bite of browning and it’s just Wow! I mean, Yoojung’s always been a great baker, but these are probably the best brownies she’s ever made. I finish my brownie, then decide I want another one. I take one from the other side of the plate, then set down at the table and eat it slowly. When I get up from the table, I feel kind of wobbly. Apparently my blood sugar is low, so I can definitely have another brownie. It’s for medicinal purposes! When I get back to the table, I discover that I’ve got a brownie in each hand. Oh well — can’t put them back now that I’ve touched them! I take a bite of each and chew contentedly. “Suyeon?!” I look up that there’s Sei standing at the entrance to the kitchen, wearing her bathrobe, with a towel wrapped around her head. SEI: I come into the kitchen looking for Suyeon and I see her eating some of Yoojung’s brownies, a brownie in each hand. Apparently she forgot the fact that Yoojung generally puts weed in her brownies — Suyeon doesn’t smoke, so she wouldn’t be eating them if she had remembered that. And it hits me: Suyeon doesn’t smoke! And she’s got half a brownie in each hand! She’s going to be stoned out of her mind! “Suyeon?! How many brownies did you have?” She stuffs one of the brownies she’s holding into so she has a hand free to hold up four fingers. Four! She’s going to be blitzed. I take the other brownie out of her hand, put it on the table, and pull her to her feet. “Come on,” I say as I start leading her out of the kitchen. “Let’s get you to your chair.” Which turns out to be easier said than done — Suyeon gets distracted so many times on the way, on top of which she can’t really walk a straight line at the moment. Finally, I get her into her chair. “You stay right here,” I tell her, making sure she’s focused on me. “I’ll be right back.” I check Suyeon and Elly’s room, then Doyeon and Yoojung’s room. Both rooms are empty. I’m apparently the unnie in charge of handling this situation. But this is more than I can handle by myself. Fortunately, there
