It's Too Quiet
Jeti Drabbles - May Edition
Fluff, established, late night longing, 600~ words
Tiffany picks up on the 7th ring, hands blindly grasping around for her vibrating phone.
“Hello?” she asks, voice laced with sleep.
She is still blinking away at the sudden brightness of her screen when she hears from the other side.
“Hi. It’s me.”
The corner of Tiffany’s lips curls up as she puts the phone on speaker and back beside her, tucking her arms back beneath her blankets to shield her from the night’s cold.
“I know it’s you,” she chuckles at ease. “You’re the only one who would call me so late.”
There’s silence on the other end and Tiffany worries for a second that the call had gone out.
“Sorry. Did I wake you up?”
Her tone is poised, it often is unless she’s angry or distraught, but Tiffany hears concern weaved in between her every word. Unlike herself, Tiffany notes that it seems she had been awake all the way up to now.
“It’s alright. I like hearing your voice at night. Why’d you call?”
Tiffany stares at her ceiling, listening to the other end.
“I like it too. Hearing your voice, I mean.”
Tiffany nods in acknowledgement before realising one couldn't nod across a phone call.
“Is that why you called?”
Silence falls again, but Tiffany is assured this time and closes her eyes as she waits for a response. It comes sooner than anticipated.
“It’s too quiet without you. Yes. I miss you.”
