"L.Joe! Wait for me~" You wailed as L.Joe casually strolled into the school gates. You huffed as you tried to catch up to your childhood best friend. L.Joe let out a silent chuckle. L.Joe has been your best friend since pre-k. His family moved in next door when you were just 1 years old and the 3 year old L.Joe would be the one who would play with you. The two of you grew up together and you grew dependent of L.Joe. He was always there for you, though he doesn't really talk much. He's more of a person of action than words.

You raced off to L.Joe and pushed him aside playfully. He stumbled to the side but gain his balance soon after. You stuck your tongue out at him and .

"Jerk~ you call yourself my best friend?" You crossed your arms and walked off. L.Joe shook his head and silently walked next to you. You refrained yourself from talking to L.Joe but, the silence was killing you. You could never be silent around L.Joe, you were the talkative one. L.Joe held back his laughter as he noticed your stiff self.

"Shut up, L.Joe. I'm mad at you." You whined.

He leaned in beside my ear and whispered, "You're not."

You continued to sulk.

As usual, L.Joe followed you to your locker and then to your classroom. You couldn't hold it in anymore and you started talking about the 'event of the week' : Your birthday party. L.Joe being him, listened to you and gave occasional nods. You lastly took out your history book and held it in your hands.

"And my mum said i can use her card to get something i want!" You squealed as you shut your locker and abruptly turned around.

Everything went so fast, you bumped into someone causing you to drop your history book and stumbled back.  L.Joe grabbed your shoulders from the back before you could fall. The hallway went silent. You looked up and gulped. There stood the freshmen delinquent, Choi Jonghyun or better known as ChangJo. He was one of your classmate but you hadn't had any proper conversations with him even though it was half way through freshmen year. No one dared to come near him ever since the orientation. ChangJo practically beat the hell out of another student for no apparent reason at all. After that, everyone knew not to mess with ChangJo, even the seniors. The only time you had a conversation with ChangJo was during Chemistry period and you helped ChangJo with his experiment.

You felt L.Joe's fingers squeeze your upper arms and you came back to your senses. Your eyes were gazing directly into ChangJo's and he quietly studied you. L.Joe grew protective. No one in the hallway moved an inch, it was as though time had stopped. The bell rang and you were relieved to hear students rushing to their classes. L.Joe stood grounded behind me, not planning to leave me unless i get to class in one whole. ChangJo leaned in and L.Joe pulled you closer to him. You watched as ChangJo got closer but he bent down instead and grabbed your history book and then handed it out to you; without breaking the eye contact. Your eyes widened, your muscles tensed. L.Joe frowned and eyed ChangJo. L.Joe reached out and took the book from ChangJo instead.  Finally, ChangJo released his gaze from you and glared at L.Joe, but seconds later, he walked off.

L.Joe turned you around and scanned you.

"Are you okay?" he lightly shook your body. You were still in a daze. L.Joe's worry rose and he waved a hand in front of your face. You finally snapped out of it and focused on L.Joe who was frowning. "I'm okay..." Only that i was this close to being processed meat Your gaze went pass L.Joe's shoulders to see ChangJo's back view. Strange...

L.Joe handed you your history text book and led you down the rather empty hallway, "Let's get you to class."

~~~***~~~
L.Joe walked into the class right before the tardy bell rang. His teacher gave him a disapproving look but let it slide. L.Joe apologized for being slightly late and went straight to his seat. L.Joe quickly settled down and took out his books. L.Joe, since a young boy, had a reputation as a good student. He always did his work diligently and never had any bad records. He occasionally scored straight As but there are times where he didn't. He'd been teased a lot for being a good student when he was in freshmen, you were still in middle school. But eventually everything was okay, he made friends with his classmates but none were his close friends.
As L.Joe were taking out his pen, he heard a snicker behind him. Knowing who it was, L.Joe ignored it.
"Is she in school? I'm guessing she is." L.Joe heard the guy behind him ask. The same question he asks every time since the beginning of the school year.
"Were you with her? Maybe i should visit her during break time." He asks again as he tapped his pen on his lips. Yet again, L.Joe ignored the love sick guy behind him.
Don't you dare touch her L.Joe thought and tried to stay focus. Then L.Joe felt a tap at the bottom of his chair, L.Joe knew he was kicking his seat but he did nothing.
"Yah, you ignoring me?" He just right behind L.Joe's head.
"Mr Lee Chanhee and Mr Lee ByungHun, Are you conversing during lesson time?" The teacher pointed his marked at the two of them. L.Joe closed his eyes and let out a sigh. ChunJi grinned at the teacher, "I was asking him about the lesson, I'm a little lost."
L.Joe rolled his eyes, Yeah right
The teacher pulled back his marker, "Well, you could always ask me to repeat it."
"I didn't want to disrupt my fellow classmate's learning." ChunJi gave another innocent smile. A few others snickered and stifled their laughter.
The teacher though, was too dense to see through him. "I'll go through it once more, please stop me if you still do not understand."
ChunJi nodded sweetly and the teacher repeated part of the lesson. ChunJi nodded occasionally but he was sneakily whispering to L.Joe.
"Did she say anything about me? "ChunJi chuckled.
L.Joe groaned inwardly, "Stop talking to me."
"Why can't I? I'm your friend." ChunJi laughed.
Only because i'm her best friend,
Class went with on ChunJi pestering L.Joe and L.Joe trying hard to focus on the lesson. ChunJi had never been L.Joe's favourite since he was more of the class mood maker. He didn't make pranks or whatever but he definitely liked to joke. And he love to smile, that's for sure. Said he's a spoiled brat since his parents are filthy rich and he always gets what he wants. Ever since freshmen year, he's been running around sort-of flirting with girls. He's not a playboy though, he doesn't date. Even if he does, it doesn't usually last too long.
It wasn't until you came into High School this year that ChunJi started to pester L.Joe about you but L.Joe wouldn't give in. There's no way L.Joe would give in. Not when he knows his own heart yearns for her.....
~~~***~~~

PWHEEET! "Ok! Pair up for stretching!" The coach yelled. Some groaned while others quickly grabbed a friend. It was Physical Education period and it was a Friday. Physical Education on Fridays meant You had the same PE period with L.Joe's class. And sometimes, they would combine and play games together. Today's game was : DodgeBall. You were going to pair up with someone else but then you changed your mind and went to find L.Joe. You looked around the crowd and then suddenly ChunJi jumped in front of you.

"Want to partner up with me? I'm lonely," He grinned.

You recovered from your shock and gave him an awkward smile, "Uhh, hello ChunJi-ssi..." Your eyes continued searching past his shoulders and around for L.Joe, or at least for someone to save you. It wasn't your first encounter with him, that's for sure.

"Still as formal as ever," ChunJi chuckled but then it died down when someone grabbed your wrist. I turned your head and saw L.Joe raising a brow at ChunJi.

You brightened up and turned back to ChunJi, "Sorry, I'm taken." You held up your wrist and showed it to ChunJi before moving to another spot with L.Joe.  You waved to ChunJi as a form of not being rude.

Almost everyone knew about you and L.Joe, no one questioned about your relationship. Though some concluded that the two of you were an item.

Everyone did their stretching and soon the two coaches came back with a basket used to store the sports equipment. L.Joe sat next to you with his knees to his chest as the coaches were busy preparing the indoor gymnasium. You were chatting with a few of your friends/classmates about your birthday party. L.Joe sat quietly beside you but then he felt as though someone was watching him. His gaze went to the left and there he spotted, non other than ChunJi. Eyes filled green with jealousy. L.Joe sighed and turned his attention back to the front. When will he give up? But then, L.Joe felt another uneasiness fill him. He looked around for anything else that was bugging him. Just then, his eyes fell upon ChangJo. Who had his eyes glued onto you. L.Joe frowned in disapproval. He's been acting weird lately...

"Yah, what's wrong? Why are you frowning?" You nudged L.Joe. Then, ChangJo's eyes met his. Their eyes never lost contact as though they were having a conversation telepathically. You paused and followed L.Joe's gaze and you stiffened. One of the two coaches blew his whistle telling everyone to gather at the center and you gladly pulled L.Joe away. L.Joe finally broke his gaze from ChangJo and looked at you.

"Why are you staring back at him?" You frowned deeply as you were sincerely worried. Half worried about why L.Joe was staring at ChangJo and half worried that ChangJo would kill him for doing it. L.Joe shrugged his shoulders. You stared at your best friend as though he had three heads. You wanted to prompt him with more questions but the coach blew his whistle again.

"We're playing dodge ball, Seniors VS Freshman. Last one standing wins."

The two classes split to each half of the gym. As soon as each group raced and grabbed as many rubber balls as they could, the game begins.

Those with the balls were all standing in front, at least protecting the ones without them. Everyone had their guard on.  You were silently laughing at L.Joe who didn't had a ball, while you on the other hand had one. You pointed two fingers to your eyes then to him. L.Joe raised a brow playfully and smiled. The coach blew his whistle again and balls were flying everywhere. Everyone was running everywhere on their half of the court trying on to get hit.    You had a load of fun occasionally throwing the ball but you definitely preferred defending than attacking. L.Joe had a ball and he ran to the edge of the Senior half of the court. You exclaimed as L.Joe threw the ball at you but then someone yanked you away. You looked up to see ChangJo. You eyes widened but ChangJo ignored it and pulled you behind him. Some were to engrossed to notice but those who did were shocked, especially L.Joe. ChangJo grabbed a ball and threw it as hard as he could towards the opposite team and it hit one of them hard on the head. The coach blew his whistle, "Play nice Jonghyun!"

ChangJo smirked. You grew frustrated with ChangJo trying to 'protect' you, though you were thankful. You moved away from ChangJo but he yanked you back.

"Stop pulling me!" Anger was heard in your tone. ChangJo was about to say something but then a ball hit your right knee. The whistle blew and you knew you were out.

You turned around to see ChunJi slyly smiling at you. You huffed in disbelief.

"Sorry babydoll," ChunJi grinned and sent you a wink.

You yanked your wrist away from ChangJo angrily. "Thanks a lot." You mumbled and walked to the bleachers. You didn't care if it was the ChangJo, it was his fault you got disqualified. ChangJo was in a daze as you walked off the court. What... Then ChangJo's  piercing gaze met ChunJi's. ChunJi felt panic running through his veins as ChangJo pressed the ball hardly against his palm. You're going down,

"!" ChunJi ran off when ChangJo charged the at him with the ball in his hand. Right on target, ChangJo leaped up in the air and slammed the ball down exactly at the back of ChunJi's head. ChunJi fell on the ground as he groaned in the throbbing pain on his head. Everyone was shocked by the loud impact it made. "Last warning Choi Jonghyun!" The coach roared. ChangJo was simply satisfied. That's for making me look bad in front of her.

You were sitting at the bleachers with L.Joe who had just been hit. Both of you were utterly shocked with your mouths ajar. Soon, the game resumed but you couldn't help but notice ChangJo playing. L.Joe too was silently watching ChangJo play trying to figure him out. ChunJi was sent to the nurses's office since he passed out from the impact. And the results came out as predicted, ChangJo was the last man standing. No one dare to hit him after what happened to ChunJi. Everyone gathered at the bleachers for the coach's last words. You and L.Joe along with a few of your other friends were sitting at the middle row. You felt a weird tingling feeling inside and you instinctively turned around. Then you saw ChangJo's strong gaze on you. You shuddered. Silently you tugged on L.Joe's shirt and he turned to you.

"He's still staring at me." You whispered.

L.Joe turned around to see it himself and ChangJo's eyes were still glued to you.

"It's okay, he won't do anything to you..." L.Joe tried to assure you.

You played with your fingers nervously as your back was practically burning from ChangJo's gaze. "But i told him off just now...what if, what if he's not happy? What if i triggered him?" You mumbled nervously.

L.Joe placed a hand on your trembling fingers and you looked at him.

"I'm here..." L.Joe gave you a warm smile. If he did that to make you feel better, it somehow did. You returned his smile and tried to concentrate on other things but you could still feel the penetrating gaze from ChangJo.

~~~***~~~
The bell rang and it was Lunch break, you were finally free from lessons. Ever since that physical education period, your head hurts from ChangJo's non stop gaze at you and also your right knee was hurting probably from the impact of the hit from PE. You decided to take the Lunch time to visit the Nurses' office for some relief cream. Your friends wanted to accompany you but you declined their offer and told them to head on to have their lunch. You texted L.Joe about your whereabouts and went straight to the nurses' office.
Upon reaching, you knocked on the door and went in after getting permission. You opened the door and froze. The first thing you saw was ChunJi sitting on the 'sick bed' drinking a cup of tea. The school nurse, Mrs Yong was behind her desk with her own cup of tea. ChunJi beamed at the sight of you at the entrance.
"You came to see me?" ChunJi grinned, again.
You let out that same awkward chuckle whenever you were around him. "No, actually... i was here for some relief cream," You turned to Mrs Yong and showed her the small bruise on your knee, "Do you have any Mrs Yong?"
Mrs Yong gave a motherly smile and stood up, "I believe i do have some, have a seat..."
You wearily walked into the room and took a seat at the chair furthest from ChunJi. ChunJi however, wasn't fond of keeping a distance from you. He stood up from the bed and walked over to you. His eyes widened at the bruise and pointed at it, "How did that happened? Did you hurt yourself?"
You  tried hard not to roll your eyes and calmly replied,"It was actually from the ball you hit me with during PE"  You bit on your tongue when you realize sarcasm was clearly heard from your tone.
"Ehh?" ChunJi cried, "ME?!" He pointed at himself. Mrs Yong sat down next to you and told ChunJi to lower his voice. You wanted to apply the cream yourself but Mrs Yong helped you to it.
"What a PE you guys had then, what were you playing?" Mrs Yong asked.
"Dodge ball," You replied. Mrs Yong shook her head as she clucked her tongue.
ChunJi fell silent as guilt crept up to him. He couldn't believe he hurt you.
After everything was well, you received a message from L.Joe saying he was meeting you at the usual place. You thanked Mrs Yong and quickly exited the room. It wasn't only after you walked a few meters that you realized ChunJi was tailing you. You turned around to face him.
"Do you need something? Why are you following me?" You asked with your eyebrows pinched together.
ChunJi gave you a sincere look, "I just wanted to make sure you're okay an-"
"I'm okay, please don't follow me."
"I also wanted to apologize,"
You were taken aback, "Whatever for?"
ChunJi looked down to your bruise and you understood. You felt bad for snapping at him.
"It's okay, it was just a game..."
You glanced at the time and realized there was only 15 minutes left till Lunch was over.
"I'm sorry ChunJi but i have to go," You your heel to continue walking but then ChunJi stopped you again.
"I'm really sorry." ChunJi mumbled.
You heaved a sigh, "It's nothing, we're friends after all. No hard feelings."
ChunJi's eyes sparkled, "We're friends?"
You thought for a while and shrugged your shoulders, "Yeah, sure...i guess."
"Then can i come to your birthday party?"
Your eyes widened, "How did...L.Joe told you?"
ChunJi shook his head, "I overheard your friends talking about it at the gym."
"Oh, ummm..." You bit on your lips.
"Please? We're friends right?" ChunJi pled.
You looked at his puppy eyes and couldn't help but give it. You finally agreed and ChunJi let you go.
"See you then, I'll ask L.Joe to give you the address..." You waved to ChunJi and ran off.
ChunJi grinned and waved, I'll definitely not let this chance slip pass.
~~~***~~~

"What?!" L.Joe exclaimed when he heard that you really invited ChunJi. You played with your fingers and adverted your gaze from L.Joe's.

"He was being all cute and his puppy eyes were really adorable, i couldn'-"

"This is playboy Lee Chanhee we're talking about here!" L.Joe yelled.

You flinched. L.Joe realized he was yelling at you and he let out a frustrating sigh. He leaned back against the couch and ran his fingers through his hair.

School had ended and L.Joe decided to drop by your house to help with the the party stuff. Never did he expected to hear this news. He wouldn't have allow it. He would never. Not ChunJi. Never ChunJi.

L.Joe let another sigh as he closed his eyes. You lowered your head in shame.

"I told you to stay away from ChunJi....i told you that way before you got into High School." L.Joe tried to reason out to you.

You pouted, "I still don't get why you tell me that though,"

"Because he is a playboy.  I don't want him toying with your feelings." L.Joe felt his own heart ache at the thought of you in a heart breaking state.

You frowned, "What makes you so sure I'll fall in love with him? I won't. Why are you being so tense?"

"He has his ways... You can't always be sure of yourself." and i don't want you looking at any other guy

"Well, what's done is done. I can't do anything about it now can i? Let's just do the preparation tomorrow. I'm tired." You stood up and went up the stairs, "You know your way out..."

L.Joe covered his face with his hands and regretted every word he said.  He looked at the stairs where you just disappeared to and let out another sigh. After a minute, he made his way out of the house and back to his.

-

You went to your room and threw yourself on your bed. Your stared blankly at the ceiling and pouted. Your head was spinning from all this sudden drama all in a day.

"Guys are weird creatures," You thought out loud. Your mind was filled with questions about why L.Joe was so protective of you against ChunJi. Why ChunJi? What was so wrong with being friends with ChunJi? He seems like a nice guy, Is ChunJi really a playboy? Your mind went on and on when suddenly ChangJo popped out of nowhere.

Oh yeah, him... You reached into your pocket and took out a little lollipop that was on your desk when you came back from lunch. Attached to it, was a little square note.

I'm sorry for what happened during PE today,

I just wanted to help.

Are you mad at me? :(

-ChangJo

Your thumb the piece of paper and your minds started to wonder again. He was sleeping on his desk when you read the note. After reading it, you couldn't help but wonder what was inside ChangJo's mind. He doesn't seem scary. You read the note a few more times and each time you couldn't help but smile. You thought it was really cute the way he drew a sad face. You recalled how he protected you during dodge ball and your heart warmed.

Maybe the ChangJo everyone knew wasn't the Choi Jonghyun he really is?

~~~***~~~
The following morning, L.Joe came by to the house for the party in the afternoon. You tried to talk to him but there was a cold wall in between the two of you. You thought L.Joe was still mad at you for inviting ChunJi. Your mood went a little sour but then you tried hard to hid it from your parents.
"Sweetie, can you help me bring these out to the backyard?" Your mother handed to you a tray of cream puffs for the party.
"Ne," You took it and went out to the backyard. L.Joe was helping your father fix the decorations. You made eye contact with L.Joe and paused. You noticed that his eyes were...lonely. You wanted to give him a smile but he turned away. Your shoulders slumped and you trudged back into the house.
Your mother watched as you rested your chin on the dining table.
"Did something happen between the two of you?" Your mother asked as she patted your head.
"Nothing happened." You replied nonchalantly.
Your mother chuckled, "If nothing happened, the two of you would be out there throwing streamers at each other."
"I don't want to talk about it." You groaned and looked away from your mother.
You felt your mother's hand on your back, "It's your birthday, have fun okay? Now go get dressed, Your friends will be here soon."
Reluctantly you went to your room and got ready.
About an Hour and a half later, your friends started streaming into the party. You greeted your friends and tried to have fun just like how your mother told you to. But, occasionally, you would glace around to check on L.Joe, see what he was doing. You couldn't help but hope he would walk up to you and just act like nothing happened between them. The sun soon began to set. The colours red, orange and yellow filled the sky beautifully. You sat on a chair while playing with the empty paper cup in your hand. You felt lonely. Even though there were about 30 other people here, without L.Joe, everything seems empty. You sighed.
"Birthday girl is sighing? That's not right." you heard a voice say.
You looked up to see ChunJi smiling at you. "You came..." Your voice croaked. Somewhat half of you felt relieved he came and half of you wished he didn't came.
"Of course, I have to be here to celebrate your birthday. You're special to me." ChunJi then handed to her a bouquet of flowers, lavender roses. You gasped.
"They're beautiful." You took it and began smelling it.
"That's not all...I have this for you." ChunJi handed you a white teddy bear, "I heard you have a for stuffed animal."
Your cheeks blush a light pink and accepted the gifts, "Thank You ChunJi..."
"Just for my special baby doll," ChunJi gave you a wink and you felt a weird feeling inside you. You tried hard to keep your blushing cheeks, "I'll go put these in my room, wait here."
With that, you scurried off to your room. You placed ChunJi's gifts on the table and exhaled. Your palm went to your chest and  you felt your heart pumping, hard.
"He's doing it you know..."
You spun around and saw L.Joe leaning against the wall next to your door.
"You could have knocked!" You tried to calm down.
L.Joe ignored your comment and continued, "Now do you understand why i don't want you to be around him? He makes you fall for him. Whether you like it or not."
You shook your head still as stubborn as ever, "He can't control my emotions. Love can never be forced."
L.Joe pulled on his locks and tried not to burst. You half glared at L.Joe, "Why are you so concerned about me whenever it's about ChunJi, is it that bad if i do fall for him?"
"Because i don't trust him."
"What? Do i have to get your permission before i fall in love? Best friends were supposed to support each other when they like someone."
"I would! But not ChunJi, just not ChunJi!" L.Joe's patience was at its limit.
"Why not?!"
"Because i hate seeing you looking at another guy! " L.Joe roared, "I hate it that you look at another guy and end up hurting. I don't want to see you hurting..."
Your eyes widened at L.Joe's sudden exclaim. You hoped hard that the loud party music prevented anyone from hearing.
"What...?" You stared at L.Joe, "What are you trying to say?"
L.Joe looked away, "Forget it. Just forget it."
You immediately stormed to him and yanked him back before he could leave the room.
"What are you trying to tell me Lee Byunghun?" You demanded. He remained silent.
"L.JOE! Tell me! Best friends don't keeps secrets from each other." You tried to make him face you. L.Joe finally stared back at you, "What if i told you i didn't want to be just your best friend? What if i told you i have a deep crush for you all these years but you never noticed me."
You were taken aback, you let go of your grasp on L.Joe's wrist.
"There i said it, would it change anything?" L.Joe sighed.
Your fingers trembled, "I...."
CRASH!!  The loud music stopped and everyone was crowded around the front porch as they witnessed the fight going on there. With L.Joe right at your tail, you rushed down to the front door where everyone was heading to and made your way through. You couldn't believe your own eyes when you saw ChangJo hovering over ChunJi as he gave ChunJi a few punches. Your father tried to stop them but ChangJo was too in rage.
Without thinking, you ran to them. L.Joe yelled your name trying to stop you. You grabbed on ChangJo's wrist and pulled them back.
"Choi Jonghyun! Stop!" You cried as you used your whole body to get ChangJo off ChunJi.
Your friends gasped as you just called ChangJo by his real name. You didn't know where you gained all that courage to say it but you did. ChangJo finally fell onto the ground with you pinning his wrists down. ChangJo was panting hard with rage but he calmed down when he saw you. Your mother ran to ChunJi and helped him up. His lips were bleeding and he hand bruises all over his pretty face.
"That guy is a psycho!" ChunJi pointed to ChangJo. ChangJo tried to tackle ChunJi again but you refrained him from doing so.
"Please ChangJo...just please..." Without yourself knowing, tears filled your eyes from overflowing emotions. Your tears rolled down your cheeks and onto ChangJo's shirt. Your father came to your aid when a police car came. Two officers came out of the car and said someone called the police because of a fight. Your father tried to reason out with the officers but You, ChangJo and ChunJi were called in for a police report.
~~~***~~~

You were sitting in between ChunJi and ChangJo in front of the officer. You calmly explained what happened since ChunJi and ChangJo were too worked up to say anything without ripping each other apart. After what seemed like forever, the officer called the respective parents/guardians. ChunJi's parents were the first one to arrive and they kept wanting to file a report against ChangJo's actions but ChunJi wasn't the only one hurt. ChangJo too had a bruised face, just that it wasn't as bad as ChunJi's .

You and ChangJo sat silently in your respective chairs. You looked around the room to keep you occupied but you stole quick glances at ChangJo. You had so many questions to ask him but you didn't know where to start. Oh well, we're bored anyways.

"Are you okay? Does it hurt?" You asked ChangJo. He turned his head slightly to you then nodded.

"It hurts?" You asked again. This time he shook his head.

"Why aren't you talking?" you prompt him then realized you were probably bugging him, "Sorry, i thought...you were as bored as i am." You turned your attention back to the front.

"I'm sorry, " You heard him say.

You laughed, "Why are you sorry for?"

"For ruining your birthday. For making you go through that side of me. For, everything." His voice was slightly husky.

You merely shrugged your shoulder, "I could use a little action in my life."

ChangJo stared at you. You stared back, "What?"

"Aren't you mad at me? or at least scared of me like any other person."

You smiled knowing what he meant, "After reading your little note, i don't think you're that scary after all. Thanks for the lollipop by the way."

You watched as a tint of blush crept on his cheeks, "It was nothing. Just wanted to...apologize."

"From the looks of it, I think you just need a friend don't you?" You grinned. ChangJo chuckled, "I guess i was feeling lonely. People just assume i'm scary after what i did to Daemin." The guy he beat the crap out of  The thought sent a shiver down your spine.

"I only beat someone up if they annoy the hell out of me. Like that guy just now, he hit you during dodge ball and then he told me i should leave the party since i wasn't invited. That guy makes me cringe." ChangJo's fist tightened at every word. You hesitantly placed your palm on his fist as an attempt to calm him down, the way L.Joe did.

L.Joe

His name rang in your head and you remembered the incident in your room. His words.

"You're the first person to ever do that to me." ChangJo's voice brought you back to reality. His smile warmed your heart. You returned his smile.

"You just need a friend and i'll gladly be your friend." You nodded your head.

ChangJo gazed into my eyes, "Thank you..."

For a moment, being so close to him was amazing. His eyes were luring.

"Choi Jonghyun!" Someone called to him and our eye contact broke. A guy about 3 years older than ChangJo ran to him. " What happened this time?!" The guy held onto ChangJo's face and looked at it. "I told you to stop fighting didn't i? S-T-O-P. What part of that don't you understand?" His brother knocked ChangJo's forehead.

"Aish~ Hyung!" ChangJo whined and rubbed his forehead.

You giggled at the brother love. The guy noticed you and apologized on behalf of ChangJo. Your parents too came and he bowed to them too. ChangJo whined as his brother pulled him away. Your parents looked at you in a weird way but you shrugged it off.

~~~***~~~
The following week, everything changed. You became friends with ChangJo, avoided L.Joe and started talking to ChunJi. You felt bad towards L.Joe but you were too confused to do anything else. L.Joe on the other hand, was dying. literally. You and ChangJo had a good start and he was actually a rather good guy. He just had a bad temper. ChunJi would drop by your class during lunch but ChangJo still scared the out of him. It hurt your heart though, every time you saw L.Joe. He had a sad aura hanging around him. You wanted to get back to him, but you didn't want to hurt his feelings. You didn't want things to end of awkwardly. So, like a coward, you ran away from it.
"Can i ask you a question?" ChangJo asked you one day when the two of you were sitting at the study table doing homework.
"Hmm?" You hummed as you bit on your pen.
ChangJo rested his elbow on the table and leaned his head on his palm, "Why aren't you and L.Joe talking? Is it my fault?"
You stiffened at the mention of L.Joe's name. You gulped down the lump on your throat and gave ChangJo a small smile, "It's not your fault...something happened."
"What...happened?" ChangJo grew curious, "Aren't you two like an item or something?"
You shook your head, "We're just childhood friends until..." Your voice trailed off and his words rang in your head again.
What if i told you i didn't want to be just your best friend?
What if i told you i have a deep crush for you all these years but you never noticed me.
"Until he told me something that changed everything." your voice came out as a mere whisper.
"What can he possibly tell you to break years of friendship?"
You sighed and continued doing your work, "He told me, he told me he loves me...more than a best friend."
ChangJo's mouth rounded as he said, "Oh."
"let's just drop the subject, i don't want to talk about it."
ChangJo continued to stare at you despite the fact you told him to finish his homework.
You finally gave up and looked back at him, "What? You still have other questions?"
"Actually i do." ChangJo leaned closer to you, "I am your best friend right?"
You frowned at the question, "I guess so,"
ChangJo tapped his lips then went back to looking at you, "What if i too said i've always like you?"
You laughed and pushed his forehead, "Stop messing around and hurry up finish your homework." ChangJo stood up and bent forward so that he was closer to you. One of his palms rested on the table for balance while the other cupped your chin gently.
"I'm not messing around," He muttered, "I really love you."
Your mind began to spin again. You had a frog in your throat. But you couldn't help but admit that you've been growing a new feeling for ChangJo.
"ChangJo...stop it.."
He smiled, " I like the way you say my name...It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. This is how love is right?"
You were too speechless.
"I can protect you. I can love you... Can you accept my feelings?" ChangJo mumbled as his lips were just an inch away from yours.
"I...I don't know." You whispered.
ChangJo's eyes fell upon your lips, "Just say yes... Say yes and i'm yours."
Suddenly L.Joe's face flashed through your mind. You looked away.
"I'm sorry, but...i think i need to go now." You quickly packed your things and walked off. ChangJo ran after you and pushed you against the nearest wall. He placed both his hands beside your head and gazed intensely at you causing you to squirm inside.
"Why can't you accept me? Because i'm scary? Because i can hurt you? I promise you, i will never hurt you." ChangJo pled. You shook your head but you remained silent.
"Or...is it because, you have feelings for someone else?.....L.Joe?"
You shook your head again, "No... i don't. I don't know."
"Give me a chance? Please?" ChangJo your cheeks again and wiped the tear that ran down your face. Slowly he came nearer, "I won't hurt you."
You tried to push ChangJo away but he wouldn't budge. "ChangJo please, i want to go home."
ChangJo sighed and rested his forehead on your shoulder, "If i gave you time will i get an answer?" You nodded even though you were unsure yourself.
Seconds passed and then ChangJo took a step back, you watched as disappointment flash across his face.
"Don't make me wait too long or i'll really kill someone." ChangJo muttered.
You took a step towards ChangJo and hugged him loosely before running off.
-
Thunder roared as a storm was coming in. You ran as quickly as you could towards your house but the rain beat you to it. The heavy down pour came and you were drenched from head to toe but your feet kept running. Till you heard someone yell your name. You turned back and saw ChunJi running to you with an umbrella in his hand. Soon you couldn't feel the rain drops falling on you anymore. ChunJi gave you his usual grin.
"Need me to walk you home? Where's the scary Dinosaur?" ChunJi then studied you, "Or, do you need a someone to talk to?"
You kept silent as you tried to stifle a sob from climbing up your throat.
"If you're trying to make me fall for you it's not working."
ChunJi laughed at your silliness and held his hand out.
"Come on, i know a place where you can dry up."
The next thing you knew you were in a dry pink shirt and shorts in a sauna place. You lay on your back on the wooden floor as you waited for ChunJi. You stared into space as you tried to relax yourself, empty your mind. Think happy thoughts
"Baby doll~" You heard ChunJi's voice and you opened your eyes. ChunJi was bent over above you; and of course, grinning.
"Good you're awake." He settled down next to you with a tray of food in his hands, "I got us some snacks."
As you pushed yourself up to a seating position you felt something his your head, hard.
"Ouch!" You wailed and glared at ChunJi who was now peeling his hardboiled egg in satisfactory. You reached out and took an egg in each hand and when ChunJi wasn't looking; BAM!
"AHH!" ChunJi lowered his head with his hand clutched onto it. You laughed and stuck your tongue out at him. "Serves you right!"
 ChunJi groaned in pain, "You're too strong for a girl." You ignored the comment and ate your eggs. The two of you quietly ate the food and then laid down on the floor, side by side.
You had your hands on your tummy as you hummed a tune. Suddenly, ChunJi turned to you and rested his head on his hand.
"So, you want to tell me what happened? Between You, L.Joe and that crazy psycho." ChunJi numbered his fingers.
You gave him a look, "You mean ChangJo."
"Yeah, that psycho." ChunJi nodded innocently.
You shook your head and sighed, "I don't know. Things just ended this way and to add to that, ChangJo says he likes me."
"He does?!"
"Yup..."
Silence......
....
..
.
"L.Joe is your best friend right?" ChunJi asked. You nodded, "Childhood best friend."
"Do you he likes you?"
You turned to ChunJi, "He told you?"
"Hahaha, you are one dense girl. L.Joe's really protective of you." ChunJi patted your head, "He wouldn't let me get close to you no matter how i tried but...he's been a little out of it these few days."
"What do you mean?"
ChunJi went back to lay on his back, "I mean, i always asked him to about you and stuff, every time i mentioned about you, he tenses up but these days; he's a zombie. A real life Zombie."
You felt bad for L.Joe but you didn't know how to approach him, not now at least.
"I'm a coward ChunJi Oppa..." You mumbled under you breath.
ChunJi's eyes widened, "You called me Oppa,"
You snickered. "You're older than me are you not?" ChunJi grinned feeling as though he had accomplished something, "Tell you what, I'll help you get out of this."
"You will?"
ChunJi nodded, "But first can i kiss you?"
"LEE CHANHEE!"
"I'm just kidding! So, here's what i think you should do...."
~~~***~~~

You nervously paced in your room as you kept glancing at your watch. You stopped in front of your mirror and checked your outfit and hair for the umpteenth time in a whole minute. Your heart was racing and your palms were getting cold from the nervousness.

"Sweetie~ He's is here." You heard your mother call out to you from the front door.

Your heart skipped a beat. This is it, You took a deep breath and finally walked out of your room. Your head felt heavy and you body was shaking. You went down the flight of stairs and met eyes with your mother who gave you an encouraging nod before disappearing into the kitchen. You made your way to the door and opened it,

Your breath hitched,

There stood a gorgeous looking ChangJo, as tall as ever. He wore a casual v-neck blue shirt that emphasized on his broad chest and jeans that clung onto his waist and legs. Somewhat you felt attracted to him.

"Hey," He rubbed his neck awkwardly. You let a small smile surface, "Hey...You look, really good."

"Really? I didn't have anything...formal to wear," ChangJo checked himself.

You laughed, "Formal? We're not going anywhere formal are we?"

"Aren't dates supposed to be formal?" ChangJo raised a brow. You shrugged your shoulders, "I never been to one."

The silence hung in the air before the two of you laughed.

"Shall we start our 'date'?" ChangJo held out his hand and you gladly took it. "Let's go~"

ChangJo and you arrived at the destination for the day, A fun fair. You were really glad to have start the day with ChangJo. He made sure you were having fun and you couldn't help but admit, being with him felt really safe. The two of you ran around the area getting onto rides after rides. You were so full of energy. You watched as ChangJo played a few games. He had different facial expressions as he tried to hit the target with the gun causing you to laugh at him.

tumblr_m8ckrwBXQo1rcun79o1_500.gif

ChangJo then treated you to a late lunch and then the two of you had to decide the last ride before bidding goodbye.

"How about the log ride?" You pointed out.

"I don't want you to get wet," ChangJo continued searching.

"That?" You pointed to the tall ride. The people on board let out loud deafening shrieks as the ride dropped down then back up.

ChangJo felt his own stomach churn at the sight, "I think we should just ride something simple, not fast, not scary and not...." ChangJo's eyes fell upon the ferries wheel, "That?"

"It looks boring though," You muttered but then ChangJo pulled you to the ferries wheel anyways.

The line wasn't really long and a few minutes passed before the two of you boarded it. You looked out at the scenery of the pretty sunset and wondered in nothing in particular.

"It's silly how i agreed to do this." ChangJo chuckled.

"Agreed to what?" you were lost.

"This. Have a half day date with you and then let you go off to another guy for another date for the rest of the day." He stared off in a distance before continuing, "But if it helps you sort things out, then....why not?"

You bit on your lower lip, "I'm sorry ChangJo, i really am... but i'm just so confused right now."

"I know." He replied immediately with a smile, but you saw sadness in his eyes, "There's still chance that you'll come to me right?"

You were uncertain so you didn't reply him. Then ChangJo moved closer to you. You were already at the top of the ferries wheel. You could feel ChangJo's body warms radiating to yours. His face inches from yours and his eyes fell upon your lips.

"ChangJo...we can't--" You tried to remind him of the simple rules ChunJi set but he brought his fingers up and covered your mouth. Slowly his eyes flutter close and his lips landed at the back of his hand. Your heart fluttered, wildly. You knew exactly that when ChangJo removes his hand, his lips would be on yours. ChangJo pulled away and moved his hand from your mouth to cup your cheek. "Do you know you're driving me crazy?" ChangJo whispered. You didn't dare move. A wrong move and you'll end up kissing him.

"We can always ditch L.Joe and go somewhere else..." It was tempting, really tempting. You felt like melting into a puddle right then and there.

"I..."

"Come on, he's your best friend. Dating him would be weird right?" ChangJo tried to convince you.

"Still..."

"You know it yourself,"

"ChangJo --"

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP. Your phone went off, thank god  you thought.

"I should see L.Joe now..." You hopped off the ferries wheel and faced ChangJo, "Are you going to send me off or?"

"Don't need, I'm right here." Another voice called out to you. A voice you missed so much.

You twirled around and saw L.Joe, still as fashionable as ever, for a good student.

L.Joe and ChangJo's glares met and they were mentally throwing weapons at each other. If looks could kill...

"Then i guess, i'll be taking my leave." ChangJo came next to you and planted a peck on your cheek. You gasped and looked at ChangJo who sent you a wink, "I'll be a phone call away if you change your mind about ditching."

L.Joe felt his anger rose in his veins but he suppressed it. ChangJo gave L.Joe one last look before walking off, bumping shoulders against L.Joe's. You were about to yell at ChangJo but then you noticed L.Joe's hurtful expression.

"You were going to ditch me?" His cold voice rang in your ears. You started panicking thinking of the proper words to explain the situation. "No, he wa-"

"Why don't you just run off with him while you're at it?" L.Joe stared deep into your soul, "Since you're so happy being with him."

You stared at your best friend in disbelief, "What happened to you L.Joe? My best friend wasn't this way."

L.Joe averted his gaze, Your best friend was losing his mind when he was losing you.

"Forget about the date, i'm going home." You stormed off. L.Joe grumbled for let his anger get the better of him. Then he notice some passer by staring at him. Quickly he caught up to you and took your hand  pulling you to his motorcycle. He lifted you easily so that you were sitting on it and then placed your helmet on.

"We're going on our date." L.Joe said before speeding off.

~~~***~~~
You watched as the scenery pass as the motorcycle raced down the streets. Suddenly you remembered the first time L.Joe took you out on his motorcycle. It was a disaster, you hated it. It was scary and it made your eyes water. Since then, L.Joe seldom rode his motorcycle whenever he was with you, which was most of the time. Your lower lip stuck out as you recalled the memories.
Then L.Joe parked the motorcycle and he got off. You took off your helmet and studied your surroundings.
"This place..." You recalled.
"Yeah, it was our elementary school street." L.Joe finished your sentence and put away yours and his helmet. You started to stare awe-struck at everything, it has been years but it looks the same only that a few changes here and there were made. The street where you and L.Joe always walked home together. You saw the same toy store you and L.Joe would spend almost hours standing outside just to look at the toys inside. In the past, both your families weren't as rich and you couldn't afford any expensive toys. Then there was the little snack shop where you and L.Joe along with all the other kids bought snacks and ice cream. You smiled unknowingly. L.Joe saw the smile on your face and he too reflected your smile on his face.
"Let's go," L.Joe walked ahead of you, as usual. You got off the motorcycle and ran up to L.Joe. The two of you walked down the street side by side. You felt that it would be awkward to suddenly talk when it's been a week or more since the last time you conversed. L.Joe noticed but didn't say a word. Then you passed by the neighbourhood playground and squealed.
"Race you to the swing!" You cried and L.Joe was taken aback by your sudden excitement. You finally got on the slightly rusty swing and giggled. Then your smile fell when you noticed L.Joe still walking towards you. Embarrassment colored your cheeks. You kept quiet as L.Joe disappeared behind you and suddenly you were being pushed on the swings, just like old times.
It felt like you were just a little kid again and you still had L.Joe by your side.
"L.Joe..." You called out as he was still pushing you on the swings. L.Joe hummed in response. "Do you remember the time i lost you on my first day of school?" You paused to laugh, "I cried so hard thinking i wouldn't see you again."
L.Joe laughed along, "You looked so ugly while crying every kid thought you were a monster."
"Yah, that's not funny." You frowned.
"It is to me... then, when i finally found you, you hugged me so tightly that you wouldn't even let go and i had to carry you all the way home." L.Joe continued.
"Sorry," You felt the need to apologize again.
L.Joe got in a daze for a while before letting you swing yourself. He walked over to the side as he watched you swing.
"I think i don't have to worry about losing you again though..." L.Joe let his words slip out of his mouth, "You're big enough to find your way back."
You stopped swinging yourself and looked at L.Joe. In a way, you knew what he said went both ways. It had another meaning to it.
"When was it?" You asked curiously.
L.Joe raised a brow, "When was what?"
"When you started....liking me?"
L.Joe tucked his hands in his pants and thought about it but then he shrugged, "I don't really know, i just did..."
"Oh...." you said and the swing finally came to a halt.
"Maybe...it was after my 15th birthday," L.Joe tilted his head, "Do you remember...that night? You.."
You too remembered about it and blushed, "It was an accident!"
L.Joe chuckled at your flustered face, "Well, you took both our first kiss that is."
You rolled your eyes playfully.
L.Joe came closer to you, "And after that, i couldn't help but think about it over and over again." You watched as L.Joe squatted in front of you. "Do you really hate me for having these feeling for you?"
You fell silent. You were unsure about how you felt.
"It feels weird?" L.Joe asks.
You thought about it and nod your head.
L.Joe sighed and stood up. He looked at the time and held his hand out.
"We should get you home for your curfew." L.Joe reminded you. You reached out for his hand and L.Joe helped you off the swing.
The two of you headed home on L.Joe's motorcycle and L.Joe walked you to your door.
You felt awkward but you didn't want to say it aloud to consider L.Joe's feelings.
"So, I'll see you in school? or?" L.Joe rubbed his hands together.
You frowned, "We're not walking to school together?"
"I figured, it'll be....awkward?"
You hit his head. "Ouch! What was that for?!" L.Joe rubbed his head.
You crossed your arms, "No matter what, i repeat, No matter what, we're still best friends."
L.Joe broke into a smile and nodded, "Yeah, sure. We'll walk to school. But, if you choose ChangJo...I'm not walking with him."
"You're being childish."
You wanted to hit his head again but L.Joe grabbed your wrist this time.
"And, since ChangJo had his...." L.Joe took a step closer to you and used his free hand to hold the side of your neck as he planted a kiss on your forehead. Your whole body froze and refused to function. "I figured its only fair i got mine."
L.Joe released you and slowly took a few steps back as he waved.
"See you bestie,"
~~~***~~~

You shut the door behind you and exhaled. What a day you had. You closed your eyes for a short period of time and when you opened them you noticed your mother staring weirdly at you.

"Are you okay sweetie?" Your mother asked as she advanced towards you.

You jerked back a little, "Mom you scared me."

She let out a little laugh and patted your head. She scanned you from head to toe.

"How was your 'date'?" She gave you a sly smile.

You groaned a little and hugged your mother, leaning your head against her chest. Her steady heartbeat made you feel better.

"I don't want to think about it for now." You mumbled.

Your mother returned your hug and kissed the top of your head. After a while of being in that position, your mother pulled away and smiled at you.

"Why don't we have a late night snack?" She whispered and then placed a finger on her lips, "Shh, don't tell your father."

You giggled and nodded your head.

-

You and your mother shared a whole tub of caramel chocolate ice-cream on the counter top. Each of you taking turns in dipping your spoon into the tub. The two of you started off chatting about the most random topics. You've always enjoyed quality mother-daughter time with your mother.

"So, will you now tell me what happened during your date? or should i say...dates?" Your mother placed her spoon down on the counter top and laced her fingers together. Your eyebrows pinched together and you bit down on another spoon of ice-cream.

"Did it go well?" She tilted her head.

You began poking the ice-cream, "It went too well."

"Too well?"

"Yeah, i can't choose. This was a stupid idea. ChunJi oppa just made everything worse." You scrunched your nose.

Your mother gave a hearty laugh. "Tell me what happened on the date, maybe i can help my little girl here."

You bit down on your lower lip and let out a sigh before telling every single detail about the dates ChangJo and L.Joe took you to. Every. Single. Detail.

"They kissed you?!" Your mother almost yelped but you covered to prevent her from waking your father up. When your mother calmed, you removed your hands.

"Not really kissed, just a small peck on my cheek and..forehead." Your face grew hot just from the thought of it. Your mother nodded for a bit before turned back to you.

"You know, this reminded me when i was in college." Your mother chuckled.

You raised a brow, "When you met Dad?"

Your mother smiled and nodded.

"Your father, was one jealous freak. We would hang out as a big group and whenever i was getting a little too close to a guy, he'd ignore me. He was a brat. He made a big fuss about everything but, it was only when another guy broke my heart i knew, your dad really cared for me. He was there when i needed him. He may not have the best looks or body but, i knew right then when he held me in his arms as i cried...he was the one. The one who will love me unconditionally. Funny, i had to realize that through the hard way."

A smile lingered on your lips as you watched your mother smile at the thought. You placed a hand over your mother's and she finally snapped out of her daze. You knew your mother loved your father so much.

"Sweetie, i think it is time i told you something i could have told you 2 years ago," Your mother patted your hand.

Your frown returned, "What is that?"

"L.Joe really cares for you..."

"What?"

Your mother let out a sigh, "2 years ago, L.Joe came to see me. He...told me he had feelings for you that he couldn't understand. He began explaining the way he felt towards you. I shall not go in detail but, he was in love. Scratch that, he IS in love with you."

Your jaws practically dropped by the sudden news.

"He told you?"

Your mother nodded. "He was too shy to talk to his own mother so he came to me. He asked me if he was normal."

You stoned for a second. Your mind was in a mess.

"You knew and you never told me?" You suddenly felt left out.

"I'm sorry sweetie, it's something he should be telling you himself." Your mother tuck your hair behind your ear, "I don't know how you feel for this ChangJo boy but, give L.Joe a chance..."

You were lost. A chance?

Then another voice came into the kitchen.

"Why are you girls not in bed yet? It's almost 11." Your father spoke and placed a hand on your shoulder, "Is our little girl feeling okay?"

Your mother stood up and went to put the melting ice-cream back in the fridge.

"I'm okay Dad," You gave him a small smile, "I'm going to bed now. Goodnight."

You gave each of your parents a peck on the cheek and retreated upstairs in your room.

After closing the door and turning the lights on, you went straight to your bed and collapsed on it. This is so hard. You started to throw a tantrum on your bed. Why must love be so hard?!  Then you began to think about what your mother said. L.Joe? Give my best friend a chance?

You looked over at your closed window and went over to it. You opened the window and saw the house next door, L.Joe's house. L.Joe's room was just beside yours. It was dark inside, you assumed that L.Joe was already asleep. The night air was chilly,

You were about to cover the window when you noticed a figure moving in L.Joe's room. The figure went to the window and opened it. L.Joe stood there and watched you.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" L.Joe's voice soft but audible.

You shrugged your shoulders, "Couldn't sleep. You?"

 L.Joe rubbed the back of his neck and shook his head.

You leaned your elbows on the window still. L.Joe did the same.

"Want to go to the tree house?" You suggested as you eyed the tree house at the back of L.Joe's backyard.

"I don't know if that thing will hold our weight anymore." L.Joe pointed out.

You grinned, "I think it'll hold. You didn't even gain any weight, you skinny monster." You stuck your tongue out at him, "Meet you there in 10 minutes?"

"Alright, if i break a bone from a fall you're paying my bills."

"Deal."

-

The two of you enjoyed the night in silence as you sat side by side next to each other. Each of you brought along a torchlight and a blanket. No one has spoken yet. The clear dark sky allowed the stars to shine extra brightly. You still had a few things in your mind.

"L.Joe," You started off and he hummed in response, "My mum told me about your little talk with her 2 years ago."

L.Joe's eyes rounded as his face grew hotter, "She told you?!"

You laughed and nodded, "Well just briefly."

"Oh.."

Silence filled the air again,

"Have you chosen yet?" L.Joe's curiosity got the better of him.

You paused. "How would you feel if i picked ChangJo instead?"

Disappointment appeared on L.Joe's face for a millisecond before a gentle smile replaced it.

"I'll still be your best friend."

"And if i picked you?" You stared at L.Joe deep in the eye.

This time L.Joe's face literally lit up, "It'll change everything..."

You fell silent and let out a sigh. L.Joe noticed your troubled expression.

"It's okay if you don't pick me you know..."

"My mum told me...i should pick someone that will love me unconditionally. Someone who would be there when i needed someone."

You turned your head to face L.Joe and he too did the same. For a moment, the two of you were in a world of your own.

"I don't about ChangJo, but..." Your voice faded when you noticed L.Joe's eyes went down to your lips, "I think....you're that someone, L.Joe."

"Are you saying you're picking me?" L.Joe whispered. You could tell that he was holding back a smile.

"I'm not too sure but i think i am." You could feel L.Joe's hot breath against your shivering skin. You could use the warmth.

L.Joe's eyes raised to meet yours again. "You know it'll change everything right? As much as i want you, I don't want you to regret it..."

"I don't think i will...." You smiled and leaned in closer, "You'll always be by my side anyways. Like i always say, i will never let you go. Not when you're my best friend or....,my boyfriend."

"Say it...." L.Joe was just an inch away from your face.

"I pick you, L.Joe."

"Finally..." L.Joe pulled you into a kiss. A kiss under the moonlight <3
