Charger not included
The Wish of ExistenceMorning came again, with the same sounds; the sea and the winds, with the same sensations; the chilly morning and his warm duvet. Somehow he felt more uplifted. Regardless of the dire news their family received, Kyungsoo held onto hope, and anticipation: he was excited to see whether the wish application would truly grant his wishes. Would Luhan get his computer? Would his sister somehow manage to find compensation for the tragedy? How did the phone -
“Ah, !” Kyungsoo cursed, noting the red, depleted bar on the phone's screen “It's low on battery!” He then realised, Lay never gave him a charger, “what am I going to do...!?”
He readied himself in a hurry; air the futons, get dressed and get downstairs.
He pondered to the sound of the sizzling oil. Usually, it'd be accompanied by the sound of water boiling, but one of the things he decided to cut, due to the upcoming struggles, was the morning soup, instead choosing to save the ingredients and the satchels for dinner, therefor, the fried eggs would sing to a lone melody.
“Ah...” he sighed, panicking at the sight of the percentage of the battery lowering, “what can I do...?” He reached into his pockets and pulled out his wallet, “will 20,000 Won be enough for a charger?”
“Hm? What would enough for a charger?” asked a curious voice, bright but a bit sluggish.
“Ah! Soojung” Kyungsoo panicked, packing both his wallet and the phone on his trouser pockets, “I was just wondering, that's all.”
“Wondering what?” she asked, standing next to Kyungsoo, sliding two bread slices into the toaster.
Kyungsoo noted the fact that her sister put two slices, the usual she had “Ah, we have to have one toast each, you know...because of what happened yesterday.”
“I know,” she pouted “but don't dodge my question, what are you wondering?”
“What phone do you have, Soojung?”
“An iPhone.” She replied, pulling the device out and showing it to her brother.
“And how much does the charger cost?”
“Around 40,000 Won. Why?”
“Because of Luhan.” He reasoned.
Soojung conveyed a sense of disgust with a tense expression of disdain on her fresh face “Your obnoxious friend?”
“Yeah, you know him, clumsy and capricious.”
“Yeah, true, well, that's the price.” She shrugged, flashing the screen to her brother, showing the price of the charger on the website.
“Aren't there any cheaper ones?”
“Yeah, they have the other brands – it's the official ones that are expensive ones, the off-brands are cheaper, but more risky; they could have the wrong voltage, or they might break quickly.”
“Hmm...” Kyungsoo began to think. If he deprived himself of lunch a couple of weeks, he might able to afford a charger, but by then, the phone would be dead.
“He has a computer, doesn't he?”
“Who...? Luhan, yes, him. Er...Yeah?”
“Tell him to just plug his phone to the computer, they can be charged through them.”
“Really?” Kyungsoo asked excitedly, smiling at the possible alternative.
“Yeah, with the cable alone, he can do it.”
“And how much are those?”
“10 to 15,000 Won.”
“Okay!” he exclaimed, psyching himself up, “I mean...! Okay, I will tell Luhan to do that in the meantime.” Luhan meaning him, and ultimately, lying.
“Are you hiding something?” Soojung eyed her brother suspiciously, corking her left brow and narrowing her left eye at him.
“No.” Kyungsoo shook his head.
“Are you sure?”
“Of course I am!” Kyungsoo answered loudly, offended by the, truthful, insinuation, “anyway, don't forget to tell Henry that I am interested in the job.”
“Yeah, yeah, I will.”
“Good, now, help me set up the table, eggs are ready.”
At the table, the three siblings, as they did all mornings, discussed their plans for the day:
“I'll open the boutique early today, we'll need all the business we can get, and...” Sooyeon sighed, rubbing her forehead, unable to muster a plan “And guess, I'll open 'till late.”
“Being open more hours doesn't always mean more sales, unnie,” Soojung argued, concerned for her sister's state, “don't strain yourself. We've managed this far, we'll be fine.”
“She's right, and if I get the job, then we'll be breeze through this, I know it.”
“I'll put in a good word for you, Kyungsoo.”
“I should hope so!” Kyungsoo crossed his arms, “I've been managing the mornings for you two girls for a long time now! I think I can handle a shop.”
Sooyeon smiled warmly at the cheekiness of the boy, “Indeed, what would we do without you?”
As the pair of siblings walked down the hill from their house to the town, Soojung side-eyed her brother:
“Kyungsoo, what's wrong?”
“Hm...Soojung, if you had the power to wish for anything, what would you wish for?”
“Er...” the girl cutely pondered, placing her finger upon her lower lip “I guess... security.”
“Security? Like bodyguards?” Kyungsoo's mind immediately pictured suited men with black sunglasses tailing their every move.
“No, like, assurance, safety – I would want to be sure that we'll be fine, or that nothing horrible will happen ever again.”
“Why not...undo the bad, or wish away altogether?” It seemed as if Kyungsoo himself pondered on it; to undo the tragedy that made them fend for themselves and struggle.
“I guess, but I don't know...” the girl leant her head back, bobbing it backwar
