Guess Who
The Wish of ExistenceUpon arriving at the town's plaza, the sibling's Kyungsoo and Soojung separated, one headed to the west of the town, for the Academy and the other to the East of the town for the Municipal School.
On his way to school, Kyungsoo checked the contents of his trouser pockets and pulled out a couple of bills; two brown five thousand Won bills, giving him ten thousand.
He stood before the bakery window display, eyeing the prices. If he bought something now, the amount would not last him for the whole week. He shook his head, he'd forego lunch today, or any snack, until dinner time.
He hated lying to his sisters, but he had to slash more than breakfast.
The walk from the town centre to the gates of the school took Kyungsoo about half an hour. That usually gave him 20 minutes to check his homework, having spent nearly 2 hours into the early morning doing it; variety shows are far too entertaining for their own good.
He traversed the gates and walked among people wearing the same uniform as he; in those moments, the tribulations he suffered didn't feel so lonely, taking the solace in knowing that he was not alone in having blues or troubles, but that were all just the same, aiming to get through the day and learn and make something of it.
Upon reaching his designated classroom, sat the cornermost desk at the last row, he set his books and notebooks upon his desk. On opening them, he absorbed himself in reading and skimming through the notes he wrote and the assignments he completed – or at least, attempted to. He was not a college student yet, drowsiness was not going to gear him into a adrenaline fuelled mindburn.
So absorbed was he that he did not feel the presence encroaching him from his behind, to his right.
Letters and numbers were vast in his sights, then suddenly, darkness.
“Guess who!” queried a bright and cheery voice behind Kyungsoo.
“Gah! You idiot!” he cursed, shaking the big hands away “Chanyeol, stop it! I'm trying to revise!”
Before him stood a towering young man, though encompassing elements that made him seem more puerile, regardless of his stature; his accentuated ears, his big eyes and curved lips that seem to always be ready for a smirk or a smile “Ha, is that all you do, nerd?” chortled his friend, sitting himself to the desk next to his.
Kyungsoo let out a puff of air in disagreement, “Yeah, right, if I was smart, I would be, I'm barely passing as it is.”
“You and me both...” Chanyeol agreed, nodding slowly, and disappointingly, to himself.
“Only because you spend your time on your computer, playing games, if you didn't you'd be in the top 10, easily.”
“Ugh...no thanks...just looking at the people who are top ten...I don't know.”
“They seem too perfect and attractively homogeneous?” Kyungsoo voiced, expressing what he felt when he saw the top ten students stand all together.
“Yeah!” the friend agreed loudly, “exactly, I am scared I'd morph into lizard people like them.”
