Severance
The Wish of Existence
As per decorum of their friendship tradition, plus the announcement made Chanyeol, the trio were having a sleepover, at Luhan's house, due to him being the one that was leaving the farthest.
Akin to some sinister dichotomy, the room didn't seem to reflect the seemingly lewd, blunt and ungovernable nature of its owner. It was an interior design's dream; a lavender colour scheme with a sleek and easy accessible storage, a walk-in closet, neat shelves filled with photography, digital art and other artist paraphernalia.
Whilst Chanyeol and Kyungsoo sat on their Chinese friend's king sized bed with the backs against the headboard, fiddling with their own phones, Luhan set up his computer to allow them to watch movies – configuring all three screen to allow for a widescreen experience.
“I forgot what a whooping piece of machine you have...” Chanyeol stared in awe at his friend's desktop.
“I got so lucky with this one,” Luhan said proudly, “it runs UHD so smoothly, it almost makes me sick.”
“What do you run on such high quality?” asked Kyungsoo, “I thought you mainly did photography and digital art pieces, and that doesn't need such an overly powerful machine.”
“I told you in our y private conversation, Kyungsoo: hardcore graphic .”
Chanyeol visibly turned to Kyungsoo with wide eyes and raised brows.
“Hmm...” visibly irritated, Kyungsoo replied, “I might not actually miss your shenanigans, you foul deviant.”
“You will...” smirked Luhan.
With the screens facing the bed, the bluetooth mouse and keyboard set up and the snacks on the way, courtesy to Luhan's mother, the three friends were ready for their marathon.
After they finished the first movie, with the steaming bucket of popcorn and nachos on their laps and the credits rolling, the looks on their faces remained stoned in apathy.
“What the hell did we just watch?” asked Chanyeol, his face twisting in disgust.
“I don't know, someone on my social media recommended it.”
“Figures...” Chanyeol mumbled, “only the people who follow you would like this stuff.”
“It was okay,” Kyungsoo shrugged, “it wasn't terribly acted.”
“Well, yeah, but the plot made no sense. I mean, the guy turns into a dragon, yet always ends up imprisoned by the enemy soldiers... what is the point of your sizeable power if you never use it when you need it?”
“Like looking into a mirror, huh, Yeollie?” chortled Luhan.
“Are you saying I'm huge? Lu, I never...” the taller of the friends waved his hand in embarrassment.
“I was talking about your latent intelligence, but whatever, boost your... er.. little ego.”
“Oh, you, you ain't much either.”
Sensing senseless bickering ahead, Kyungsoo held back the taller of the bickering two “Chanyeol, don't - “
“Oh, yeah?!” exclaimed a challenged Luhan, “well, look at this!”
Kyungsoo poignantly pointed at his friend and yelled, halting his friend's hands lowering his pyjama bottoms “Lu! Stop it!”
“What? Soo, you know I'm decently sized.”
Chanyeol looked to his friends in shock “what the hell do you two do when I'm not around?”
“Nothing, now, let me mediate between the two of you: you're both overestimating your 'ego' “
The sudden put down was enough to calm the two testosterone-filled boast match.
With a forced smile, Kyungsoo took hold of Luhan's wireless mouse and addressed the now pouting-and-silent duo “Comedy next, you two?”
Unlike most of their sleepovers, Kyungsoo was the last one standing, whilst his two fellows were snoring at his flanks. Luhan's computer had already gone to sleep and Kyungsoo was left trapped between the tall Chanyeol and the spread out Luhan, which left Kyungsoo with very little space. Nonetheless, he cherished their warmth, their sound and their carefreeness – the atmosphere of their gathering did not harness the depressing reality of their split. Reaching to his left, over the sleeping giant, Kyungsoo grabbed his phone from the nightstand and began to tap it.
He opened the internet app and looked through his history – he scrolled down from the numerous searches for kittens, puppies and baby seals, until a website, written in characters he was unfamiliar with was highlighted. He tapped onto the address and then Luhan's smug but “come-hither” face appeared in a square, with the background of one of his beautiful digital art pieces – a Koi fish swimming in a rapid of fire with Chinese lanterns swaying in the background. Beneath his picture were numerous post made; text, pictures and drawings.
He may not grasp what the text said but the contents of the page, in essence, carried the idea of what Luhan was, a fountain of artistry, inspiration and a little madness. He clicked the apps options and promptly bookmarked the page: he may not want, or have social media, but he will indeed keep up with his friend. He looked to his right, where Luhan curled up to Kyungsoo's side, opposite of laying splayed out like before. The
