Clear the air
The Wish of Existence
Monday came rolling far to quickly for Kyungsoo's taste. Saturday was a flash to him, due to the fatigue from work, then Sunday was spent solely on his homework, studying and spending a bit of time with his sisters in front of the TV. He felt that either that he had to manage his time better or he was just not minding time as much as he thought he did.
Sitting in class, in the back, as always, found Kyungsoo and his never-failing friend, grades notwithstanding, Chanyeol staring dead-eyed to the front, unsure, to both, whether the words of the teacher in front were reaching them not by limitation of their place, but of the subject of the lesson itself.
The taller of the two nudge the other;
“Soo, are you getting any of it?” Chanyeol whispered to his friend, leaning towards him.
“Nuh-uh...” Kyungsoo shook his head dejectedly, feeling utterly bored, all apparent by his lids hooding his eyes and his struggle to hold his head up with his hand.
“If I'd known that we'd be tearfully bored, I'd skipped this lesson, cause you know I - ” Chanyeol halted, feeling the weight of gaze of someone, from far in the front, “Huh...” the goof of a boy noted to himself, pursing his lips into a line, rounding his cheeks.
“What?” Kyungsoo turned to his friend, noticing that he stopped mid-sentence, “what then?”
“Hey, Kyungsoo, has Jongin talked to you yet?”
“No,” Kyungsoo replied as if the answer was obvious to them both, “Even on Satuday afternoon, I saw him walk by the plaza and when I called to him, he pretended that he didn't hear me, much less know me.”
“Really?” Chanyeol eyed his friend suspiciously, not entirely believing him.
“Yeah, I told you why on Thursday, didn't I?”
“Still...” Chanyeol leans back into his chair, retreating from leaning into Kyungsoo “that doesn't explain why he keeps looking this way.”
“He what?” Kyungsoo asked, unsure if he heard right, or his friend was delirious. He himself stared at the front row, and unbelieveably to the fair student, he clashed eyes with a certain olive-skin striking individual. They soon diverted their gazes away from one another.
“He's been looking back every now and then, now that I notice.”
“Well...” Kyungsoo attempted to rationalise, ignoring the narrowing of his diaphragm “I did something quite gay to him... chances are he isn't over it. Not in a good way.”
“I don't think that's what it is. I mean, even if he was upset about it, he wouldn't hurt a fly.”
“I know he won't raise his fists, but his words can still carry a ton of power around here,” Kyungsoo sighed, holding his own head, “now I'm scared...” he said, chuckling emptily to himself, due to being unable to make light of the situation.
“Hey, don't be, I'm here,” Chanyeol assured his friend, pressing his hand onto his smaller friend's shoulder “now I wish I was gay, so that I could be your boyfriend and believe, for once, that I'd protect you.”
The smaller of the two retracted from the taller and eyed him up and down, judging his outward appearance “Ugh... no thanks, let me just get a beating.” Kyungsoo stated light-heartedly.
Chanyeol's mouth gaped in mock shock and addressed his friend in kind “Are you saying that after all we've been through, you wouldn't pick me to be your boyfriend, if you had the choice?”
“No...I like men, not boys, Park Chanyeol.”
“Shut up, I'm all man, from head to toes, specially my mid-section and below.”
“How exciting,” The fair student said flatly, “a beer belly and an untamed bush.”
“I am breaking up with you, Do Kyungsoo.” declared a pouty Chanyeol.
“My broken heart...” Kyungsoo uttered with a comical high-pitched voice, grasping his chest, “Now I won't be able to rest my head on your blubby tummy, Chanyeollie!”
Both friends burst into laughter as they jested with one another.
A loud, fake cough interrupted the guffawing pair.
“Mr. Park, Mr. Do, is there something funny you find about my lesson that you would care to explain to the rest of the class.”
“Er...” both boys felt at a loss for words, looking to each other for an explanation.
“I just...” Kyungsoo spoke up, standing up “Chanyeol was explaining to me how my blubber belly reminded him of the creature in the story.” His confession received positive chuckles from his fellow classmates.
“Hm...” The teacher leered at the fair student, who was slowly shrinking in place in embarrassment, due to the weight of the attention, “I am glad you are listening, but don't stray.”
“Yes, sir...” Kyungsoo lowered himself back into his seat slowly, “Phew...” he let out as the class resumed.
“Hey,” the goof boy nudged his friend once again “it was supposed to be me that had the blubby tummy, Kyungsoo. Don't steal my thunder.”
“Oh, Yeollie, you're such a jealous boyfriend.” grinned Kyungsoo to his friend.
Lunchtime finally came, after what seemed a crawl of multitude lessons. Unlike his usual schedule, today was one of the days Kyungsoo took off from his duty at the library, choosing to spend his time with his two friends. The trio of friends found themselves sitting outside, at a connecting corridor on the second floor that lead to another wing of the school. With their backs supported by the concrete fence, the three faced each other as they discussed their weekends and pooled their lunch treats in the middle of their circle.
“Did you tell Luhan?” Chanyeol asked with his mouth full of tuna sandwich.
Kyungsoo visibly recoiled at the state of his friend's eating mannerisms, “Uh... no...”
“Tell me what?” Luhan asked as he sat across from the two.
“The thing is...” Kyungsoo then went on to explain the terribly complex situation he found himself in; his infatuation for a certain handsome top-ranker and the manner in which he withdrew from the drama club.
“Wow...” Luhan replied, flabbergasted “I knew you had the hots for him, but that is daring, even for you.”
“I was acting!” Kyungsoo cried out in embarrassment, “now he hates me...”
“You don't know that...” Luhan said, in a comforting tone, “he's a nice guy after all.”
“But Yeollie said that he was glaring at us the entire first four periods.”
“No,” Chanyeol was swift to deny, this time, with an empty mouth, though not fully presentable; a piece of bread stuck to the side of his lip “I said he was staring, I didn't say glare.”
“But I'm sure he was.” Kyungsoo unenthusiastically insisted, burying his head in his hands.
“But he wasn't, Soo. He was staring, like he wanted to say something.”
Kyungsoo turned his head to his tall friend, glowering “You think that he'd say something that would be good?”
“I don't know, but Jongin's always been a cool person, he probably just wants to clear the air and you know...”
