UN-BETAED 

Jonghyun was leaning his on the edge of the dining table drinking his coffee, sipping on the hot liquid as he watched Onew run in every corner of his house.

“Hey! You!” onew stopped and answered “Yes Jonghyunnie?” then he ran in the most adorable way (according to Jonghyun) towards his owner.

He stopped in front of him and smiled “why? What’s wrong?”

“Where did you really come from?” Jonghyun asked before taking another sip of his coffee. “Why are you half human, half rabbit, I mean, tell me... why you’re like that.”

onew paused for a while, thinking if it’s a good idea to tell Jonghyun the truth, but since he trusted Jonghyun, it would be fine right?

“Well, I’m actually human once, was once” onew said before taking a seat next to where Jonghyun is.

“You are?”

“Yes~” onew answered  “The truth is, I was cursed”

“Cursed?”

 “Yes”

“Why?” Jonghyun asked again…

“When I was only 9, I didn’t really like animals, especially rabbits, I… I get irritated when I see a rabbit that I tend to kick them, throw them or hurt them… I hate them and I don’t know why... maybe it has something to do with the other kids at our place calling me tokki. I hated it... so I took my anger to every rabbit I see, ” he mused  “Then one day, I found a rabbit again, I picked it up, I was about to throw it, but then it bit me, that’s the last thing I remember, when I woke up, I was already a rabbit, I never found my way home, after that, I started to live my life as a rabbit.” Onew explained

Jonghyun felt like laughing “Wait, I think you missed the part where you start shooting spider webs out of your wrist, ” he laughed anyway, but stopped when he saw that onew was being serious “Yeah.. So uhm” he coughed awkwardly “You… you don’t like animals?”

“Yes, that’s what I remember, but that was before, now I finally know what it feels like to be like them, I mean I grew up being a rabbit, and lived like a rabbit for many years. Whenever I reflect on my actions back then, I feel bad, I really am sorry. I... I didn’t want this to happen, I just.. I was just ” onew covered his eyes with both his hands, then he started to let out sobs and cried. “You probably hate me now don’t you?” he asked without looking up.

Jonghyun shifted uncomfortably, startled by the sudden weeping “You… you’ve been a very bad kid, but,” a pause as he set his coffee down the table “but I don’t hate you, so… so don’t worry” unsure of what to do, Jonghyun kneeled and pulled the crying man into an awkward hug.

Onew who was still covering his eyes snuggled into Jonghyun’s embrace, and it softened the bartender “Onew, don’t cry now, you were just a kid back then. Hush, It’s ok.” Jonghyun comforted Onew until he stopped crying.

Jonghyun thought as he held the crying rabbit in his embrace that the man was harmless and was probably still a child at heart and in mind, he thought he wouldn’t mind having him as his pet, caring for him and treating him like he belong like he probably never felt in all the years he have spent being cursed. He did need someone to rent his room to fill up the emptiness he felt in his lonely home anyway.

They stayed like that for a couple of minutes until Onew finally stopped crying “so you think this is a curse given to you by that rabbit?” Jonghyun asked when it was finally ok to talk

“Yes?” the other answered, uncertain.

“So is there a way to turn you back into your old form? I mean... Your parents must be dying to see you again after so many, many year”

“I don’t think there is a way Jonghyunnie, but its ok, I don’t have parents anyway,” he smiled sadly

“What?” Jonghyun asked, not prying any further, worried that it might make the other cry again.

“I.. I never met them actually, I lived 9 years of my human life as an orphan, at least that’s what I remember,” Onew said, forcing a smile on his face

Jonghyun felt like bursting into tears, ‘this guy’ he thought has lived a much sadder life than he did. He had been alone from the very start of his life. Unlike him, he don't really see his family often but he does have a family. He thought his life was too boring and useless for them, they cared more about my sister amber, and he was always left behind, always left alone and he didn’t want to feel like he didn’t exist anymore, that was why he left home and lived alone

“Oh... I am so sorry”

Onew smiled again “why are you saying sorry? Did you do anything wrong jonghyunnie?” Jonghyun smiled at his cuteness “It’s nothing” he said

Onew was sitting adorably on the couch hugging both his leg as he rested his jaw on his knees, making him pout, he was waiting for jonghyun to come out of his room,

Onew smiled when he heard the sound of the door opening then closing again, he turned around and saw jonghyun who was wearing a white shirt and black pants fixing his black tie.

“jonghyunnie~~ you look good”

“Really? You think so?” jonghyun smiled back, still fixing his tie

“Yes, are you going somewhere?” onew asked

“uh hm, I have to go to work” Jonghyun answered

“Work?”

Finally jonghyun finished fixing his tie, he snatched his wallet, putting it into his back pocket and walked towards onew

“Yes, work, I have work onew, And that means I have to leave you alone here...”

“EHHH??!! You’re going to leave me? But I thought you were going to be here with me the whole day,” onew said as he lower his head in despair.

“I have to work, or we won’t have any food to eat, ah! Speaking of food, you do know how to eat right? Just do whatever you do and eat whatever you want, but not everything, I have to hurry or I’ll be late” jonghyun said and onew agreed with a nod

He patted onew’s head 3 times with a speed that almost felt like he did nothing then headed to the door, and turned his head back to onew again.

“onew” jonghyun called out.

“Yes?”

“Do not burn the house” then the door slammed close, Jonghyun finally left.

Onew was left on the couch burying his face into the hollow part of his joined knees.
