Ch 18

She loved her music

"So Miss Solar. How does it feel having your very first solo debut song?"

"It's overwhelming!" Solar rubbed her hands together, frayed nerves making her tone jump higher than normal.

"That's normal at the very start." The mc interviewing Solar nodded her head, reassuring smile flashing across her face. "It's very different isn't it? Singing and performing alone on stage rather than with the rest of Mamamoo?"

"That's right. It's completely a different experience. Now I truly realize how important my members are to me, both physically and mentally. When they're there, it's a lot more relaxing, knowing I'm not alone and that they're there to back me up."

"You performed quite well tonight though, despite not having your members on stage with you. Your new song is receiving quite a lot of love. Could you please explain the song to us briefly?"

"Of course! My song is a ballad about the trials of love a girl goes through. Love doesn't always go the way you wish at the start. There may be heartbreak, there may be rejection. However, the girl eventually gets past all these complications and ends up with the one she loves." Solar drew a deep breath, smile unconsciously flitting across her face as she recalled Moonbyul's earnest face when she first explained it to her.

The mc noticed her expression and she shuffled her note cards, corners of lifting upwards. Several questions had been written down for her to gradually introduce to Solar during their interview. Now Solar had just perfectly set herself up for the real, juicier questions.

Clearing , the mc leaned forward, almost conspiratorially. "Miss Solar. It looks like this song resonates with you a deeper level. Actually, it says here-" she glanced down at her notecards, "-that the main producer for this song is Moon Byul Yi. The producer."

"A-Ah yes. Moonbyul and I produced this song together."

"Does this song hold a special meaning for you two then? You two have recently come out and acknowledged that you have been dating. Since the timeline fits, one would assume that you two worked on this song while you were together."

"There are some aspects of this song that do represent certain actual events." Solar, the terrible liar she was, bit her bottom lip as she vaguely phrased her response with the slightest figment of truth.

"Of course. Heartbreak and finding love are very common topics in music."

"Many artists do often write about that, yes."

"I'm sure many of our viewers agree along with me that when we saw you sing today, we were awed not only by your vocal prowess but also the feeling of the emotions you put into the song."

"Thank you for the praise-"

"Would you say that you were able to sing this song from the heart? When we see people sing with such passion as you have done today, it tends to be a fact that they are able to feel the music, the lyrics with their entire being."

"I put my utmost effort into every stage I perform."

The mc, however, did not give up. Solar grudgingly admired that persistence. "A beautiful effort indeed. To sing a love song made with a loved one. It almost feels as though you lay yourself bare before the world when you do so."

"I try to be honest on stage, but you sometimes can't just give away everything either."

Noticing Solar's faltering smile, the mc said, "Sorry, Miss Solar. It must be a little awkward for you. After all, it hasn't been long since the news came out."

A little awkward. Understatement of the century. What a meaningless apology. Solar inwardly scoffed. She had come to give an interview about her new song, but now it was degenerating into an interview about her "love life".

"I'm still a little uncomfortable about it, yes." Better try and stop her from asking more questions. "This is all new to me, so I'm not too sure how to respond to all this. There's just a lot for me to deal with; my solo debut, my group activities, and my relationships."

"A busy schedule indeed. Very well, before we end this interview, I would like to ask, are your group members here for you today? To support you and cheer you on for you solo stage?"

"Yep! I'm so glad they're schedules are free to come watch me! I believe they said they would go watch my performance not from the waiting room but from the audience, with Moonbyul..." Oh . Solar realized her slip of the tongue too late.

The mc pounced on her mistake like a tigress after her prey. "Moon Byul Yi is here too? Ah, of course, she would want to come celebrate the debut of her girlfriend. And there must be a certain charm listening to your loved one serenade you with a personal song you made. I guess we can see now how that beautiful performance today came to be." Giving her an exaggerated wink, she continued, "Let's end this interview with a video message shall we? To your members who have come to support you. And to Moonbyul."

Solar watched in panic as the big camera panned towards her and zoomed in. Mentally slapping herself on the forehead, she forced a smile as words whirled through her head, not quite forming theselves into coherent sentences.

"Hwasa and Wheein. I love you two like my own little sisters, and to be able to feel your love and support today while I performed alone up there gave me the strength to go put on a great stage."

Pausing, she saw the director hurriedly scribbling something onto a white board before flipping it around for her to see.

(Make Moonbyul's message sweet and loving.)

Nearly grimacing at the expectant director standing with crossed arms, she swallowed and gazed back into the lens.

"Moonbyul. Thank you for coming as well today. I can't believe I actually got to perform this song we made together on such a big stage today, and I hope you listened well and took it to heart." At the director's urgent gestures for more, she continued, mouth twitching, "Let's make more songs together. And...I-I love you!"

"AND CUT!" The director waved his hands with a satisfied expression. "Good job there Solar. This interview turned out well, so it'll air tonight with minimal edits."

"No problem sir. Thank you all for the hard work! I'll be going now." Solar went over to her manager, following her outside and into their car.

Tonight. Great. Moonyul's coming to the dorm tonight.

----------

"I brought chicken!" Moonbyul fumbled around for the keys while she shouted through the dorm door, arms ladled with bags of steaming chicken and cold cans of beer.

Almost immediately, the door swung open to Hwasa's ecstatic expression of anticipation. Her arms shot out, relieving Moonbyul of her burden, before skipping towards the living room table.

"Wow," huffed Moonbyul. "Not even a hello?"

"Thanks for the snacks!" Hwasa blew her a kiss, one hand already wrapped lovingly around a drumstick.

"Tsk." Moonbyul rolled her eyes as she stepped forward, only to be tackled into a crushing hug. Stumbling, she righted herself against the door, head tilted downwards to see a head of black hair buried in her chest. "Aww baby, I missed you so much today!" She rubbed Wheein's back fondly, then gently cupped her face and lifted it up to kiss her first on the forehead and then on the lips.

"Moonbyul~" Wheein sighed in pleasure as she indulged in the the older girl's scent, body pressed tightly against hers.

"Guys. You literally saw each other this morning." Hwasa faked a gagging sound through her mouthful of chicken. "Come on over here and eat this chicken with me before you start eating each other out. Pls."

"HWASA!" Moonbyul gaped at Hwasa's blunt words before turning towards Wheein, whose blushing face hastily averted from view.

"What a conservative." Shrugging her shoulders, Hwasa popped open one of the beer cans, taking a swig and exhaling loudly in satisfaction. "Damn this is the good stuff. Chicken and beer on a Friday night."

"Hwasa's right. Let's go eat." Wheein tugged on Moonbyul's sleeve, leading her to the table. "Oh by the way, where's Solar unnie at?"

"I'm here." Solar stepped out of her room, hair in a mess as she yawned. "I was taking a nap, but woke up from all the noise-- Oh my god, is that chicken?" The sleep cleared from her eyes as she dashed towards the table, stomach growling in excitement.

"Long day huh? First solo performance and all?" Moonbyul chuckled as she sat herself down next to Wheein, taking one of the cans.

"The interview was exhausting. The mc literally steamrolled over me."

"Oh isn't it on tonight? Let's watch it first before we start a movie." Hwasa leaned over the table for the remote, turning on the TV.

Solar twitched in her seat, hand holding the chicken slowly moving from ."U-Uh just so you know, the interview was a little awkward. The mc...well...seemed to be very invested in my personal life. So she kind of asked about Moonbyul. And...uh...I was forced to say stuff. About us. And the director. He...um...was very insistent on playing this card too--"

"Calm down, jeez. There's no need to get so worried. We know you've got to keep it up out there." Wheein wiggled, settling herself into Moonbyul's lap with a soft thump.

"I..I just don't want you to get the wrong idea..."

"Let's just watch. It can't be that bad, can it?" Moonbyul nuzzled the top of Wheein's head, opening and begging Wheein for a bite of chicken.

"Yah Moonbyul feed yourself!" Hwasa pointed a drumstick sternly at the girl.

"My hands are full." Waggling her fingers that were wrapped around Wheein, Moonbyul smugly accepted the torn piece of chicken Wheein fed her. "Oh it's starting!"

The interview was a little more than any of them had expected.

Even Hwasa had dropped her chicken by the end of it, opting instead for antoher can of beer to wash down the disbelief.

"Wheein. Wheein-ah." Moonbyul's pouting voice bounced off her girlfriend who had slid off her lap midway during the interview, finally forcing her hands off and scooting away at Solar's final words. "Don't be mad. It's...it's not even my fault."

"Damn. That interviewer really went all out. Solar, you're getting to be quite an actress aren't you?" Clicking off the TV, Hwasa snickered at Solar's flustered face.

"It...I'm sorry Wheein. I really had no choice."

After a pause, Wheein's voice echoed out into the room. "I know. I just...even though I know it's fake, it just still kind of hurts. Especially when they stuck that picture of our faces at the end. They even cropped me and Hwasa out! And Moonbyul, your face in that picture...don't you think you looked too happy--"

"It was an accidental coincidence. I swear." Moonbyul answered in a deadpan tone.

"Hmm."

"Wheein-ah, my sweetheart..."

"..."

"My beautiful, cute puppy."

"..."

"The love of my life--"

"GUYS. Get a ing room already! Shoo. Go. I don't think I'd be able to stand watching a movie with you two lovebirds." Rolling her eyes at her best friend who was shaking from laughter and from the effort to not turn around and jump into Moonbyul's arms, Hwasa motioned with her arms for them to leave. "Go to your room or something. You can watch a movie together then. Or cuddle. Or kiss. Or whatever else you guys might want to do. Solar unnie and I will just stay here and watch a movie ourselves."

"You're kicking us--"

Moonbyul's sentence got cut short as Wheein suddenly stood up and dragged her towards her room. The door slammed close behind them.

"You think they're fighting?" Solar darted a glance at the door, feeling slightly guilty at being the source of all the strife.

"Fighting? Well I'm pretty sure they'll be making up soon. They never stay mad at each other too long." Hwasa took another swig from her can. "Maybe let me sleep over in your room tonight."

"U-Uh right. S-Sure. You think.."

"They'll have to learn to be able to handle at least this much. The interview was pretty juicy, but it wasn't even that bad. You and Moonbyul haven't had to make any public appearances together yet anyways."

"You're right."

"It's good that Moonbyul has connections."

"I'm pretty surprised the reporters have actually been so tame and leaving us alone. There hasn't been another article yet."

"Well it's not like you two go out on your own. She always come here nowadays."

"Wheein's here."

"And we're being the third and fourth wheels in our own dorm. It's just great." Hwasa sighed dramatically. "I never pegged Wheein to be such a possessive type of girlfriend. To be upset at that little interview...Let's just be glad the press isn't forcing you and Moonbyul to go out together in public and act like a real couple. If that ever happens...well...I'd be scared if I were Moonbyul."

"If..."

"Whatever. Let's just get on with our movie. We should probably turn the volume up just a little. Just in case."

---------

"Wheein. Are you still mad?" Moonbyul nervously spoke up after being dragged into Wheein's room. She gingerly sat down onto Wheein's bed, watching as Wheein forcefully shut the door.

Her girlfriend slowly walked towards her, eyes solemn and unblinking as they stared at the fidgeting figure before her.

"Um. Wheein? I'm really sorry." Her pleading became more frantic as an ominous feeling settled over her. "I-I--" She hung her head low as Wheein approached.

Halting before her, Wheein's shoulders began to shake, corners of quirking upwards. "Oh my god. Moonbyul. Did you really think I was that mad?" Seeing the girl before her lift her head in amazement, Wheein chortled in laughter before launching herself onto her bed next to Moonbyul.

"So you weren't mad? You were joking?"

"I was mad. But I'm mature. I got over it quickly. You're the one who was overthinking it." Squeezing Moonbyul's cheeks, Wheein fell backwards into a lying position on her bed, tugging Moonbyul down with her.

"That was so mean! I was actually worried!"

"You're so cute when you're worried you know? And you're way too easy to trick. I couldn't help myself."

"Aish you're lucky I love you," grumbled Moonbyul, staring up at the wooden boards framing the upper bunk.

"Mmm I love you too. That's why I tease you." Wheein snuck Moonbyul's arm under her neck as she snuggled closer.

"You tease everyone though."

"Oh. I do."

"Guess I'm not special enough."

"Eyyyy don't be like that. You think I treat everyone I tease like this?" Wheein propped her head up, giving Moonbyul a quick peck on the lips.

"Like what?" Moonbyul asked innocently. "I couldn't really tell. Show me again?"

Laughing at her fake expression of confusion, Wheein said, "Oh my. You're becoming pretty daring, aren't you Moonbyul. Trying to tease me now? Alright if you insist--wah!"

Moonbyul twisted her body around, hovering over Wheein's, palms on either side of Wheein's head supporting her while her bent knees were on either side of Wheein's suddenly tensed legs.

"I can play games too." And then she bent forward, body heat melting into Wheein as their torsos came into contact. Closing her eyes as her elbows lowered to rest against the bed, she pressed her lips against Wheein, slowly, surely, passionately.

Wheein's lips parted, head tilting to meet Moonbyul's more comfortably, arms reaching up towards her head to bring the other girl closer to her. As their kiss deepened, Wheein couldn't help but let a little moan of pleasure leak out of her as she felt Moonbyul's body press even tighter against hers.

When they finally broke apart, Wheein's breath came out in little gasps as she struggled for air, eyes hazy and unfocused as they stared at Moonbyul.

"Moonbyul..."

"Shh." Moonbyul whispered into her ear, hot puff of air tingling on her bare skin.

Moonbyul began leaving feathery kisses over Wheein, lips trailing a path downwards. The stimulation was too much for Wheein, who would gasp and moan each time the combination of Moonbyul's wet lips, heated breath, and nip of teeth visited her skin.

Wheein closed her eyes, back arching as she felt Moonbyul's head buried into her neck as Moonbyul's fingers struggled to her blouse's buttons one by one. Her own hands slid under Moonbyul's shirt, deftly unclasping her bra, fingernails raking her back and whimpering as Moonbyul particularly hard on her neck.

"Wheein-ah don't be too loud. What if Hwasa and Solar hear us?" Moonbyul turned her head timidly towards the door through which they could hear the loud sounds of a movie playing.

"I'm sure they're occupied." Wheein slapped Moonbyul gently on her arm. "Damn it Moonbyul! What if you leave a visible mark? I have schedules."

"Oh , you're right. I'm sorry." Moonbyul looked down apologetically before a sly smile rose on her face. "I guess I'll just have to go for the less visible places then. Make you unable to wear that revealing clothing those stylists always try to stick on you."

She and bit her lips, giving Wheein a suggestive wink. However, as she lowered her head, her phone suddenly began vibrating.

"Damn it." Moonbyul gave her a phone a glare, contemplating whether she ought to pick it up or pretend it didn't exist.

"Just pick it up. What if it's important?" Wheein smiled, pushing Moonbyul playfully. "We can continue later."

"Alright. Don't forget." Rolling over off Wheein, she reached for her phone on the dresser. "Oh crap. It's my ceo." Hurriedly giving pressing the green receive button, she raised the phone to her ear. "Yes, boss?"

"Sorry for calling so late, Moonbyul."

"It's all right. What do you need? Is is another assignment?"

"Well, it's a bit different. You see, I got a call from a producer a few minutes ago. Apparently, he wants to film a short show about the process of creating music."

"Okay...do you mean you want me to help out?"

"He specially requested you."

"I'm surprised. I don't really have much public exposure when it comes to music production though, do I?"

"I think he's playing off the recent interest in you, to achieve good ratings for the show."

"You mean--"

"He requested that Mamamoo be the group you work with. But he called us first."

"Mamamoo?" Moonbyul saw Wheein's eyebrows raise quizzically at the mention of her group. "What about Red Velvet? They're always the one I mainly work with."

"But you don't have an ongoing relationship with someone from Red Velvet."

"Sir, I told you it was fake--"

"Regardless, media will play off of that. And to be honest, I believe this exposure can be good for SM, to showcase our production team's capabilities. It'll also be good for RBW, to boost their popularity."

"Are you telling me I have to do it?"

"I'm giving you an option. But I recommend that you do it."

Moonbyul ground her teeth together. "There's no real option there is it. I understand. I'll wait for more details from you soon then."

"Excellent. I'll go call Mamamoo's ceo in the morning. Good night, Moonbyul."

"Night, sir."

Moonbyul hung up tossing the phone back onto the dresser.

"What's wrong?" Wheein took Moonbyul's hands in hers, concern creasing her forehead as Moonbyul's thin lips curled downwards into a frown.

"It's something you probably won't like. Your ceo will probably call you about it in the morning after he's talked to my boss."

"But what is it?"

"Some producer wants me to film a show with you guys."

"Isn't that great?"

Moonbyul shook her head. "Not when they're deciding to base it around Solar's and my public relationship. I'm sorry, Wheein."
