The New Kid

My tutor Jinhwan

Jinhwan could feel Hanbin’s lips touch his in a millisecond before a sudden buzz sound made them both jump away from each other. They looked at each other, panting, sweating and trying hard to catch their breaths, as if they had ran a whole mile. They both looked down at Hanbin’s pocket, as the sound came from there. Hanbin signalled that he had to get take that, and went off.

Hanbin felt horrible, leaving Jinhwan like this, yet he was happy about the distraction. They could’ve ended up kissing. Two guys. Jinhwan and him.

Jinhwan and him

The thought of them made Hanbin’s heart suddenly flutter. Did he really hate the thought of them together, or did he actually like it? And what would’ve happened if they had kiss. How would Jinhwan’s small lips feel towards his big ones? Would their noses fit? Would Jinhwan be satisfied with the kiss? Would Hanbin disappoint him? Hanbin felt butterflies tickle inside of his stomach by all of these thoughts, and one thing was clear: he regretted not kissing him. What if that would be the most memorable thing from the whole day? Hanbin internality cursed to himself as he studied the phone, ready to answer. He gulped at the caller ID. His father.

“H-hello,” Hanbin tried to hide the fact that he had absolutely no confidence when it came to his father, but his voice failed him miserably.

“Hanbin-ah.” Hanbin with an ‘ah’ at the end? This caught Hanbin off guard as his father had said his name in a nice way. “It has been a long time since we have gone out eating together, right? Why don’t we eat at a restaurant today?” Hanbin’s father said with a sweet voice, which made Hanbin startled. Yes, it had been a long time since they had gone out eating together, but why all of sudden? Why would his father all of sudden be nice?

“Today?” Hanbin repeated, remembering his wonderful time with Jinhwan.

“Today.” His father stated. “I have already reserved a table, and I have some exciting news to share with you as well,” his father even sounded a bit exciting, making Hanbin even more curious of what he possibly could want to share with him. The fact that he had already had reserved a table, and he seemed to have good new, made it hard for Hanbin to really deny his father. Besides, it wasn’t that often his father was in such good mood as today, and Hanbin didn’t want to make him angry, Hanbin knows better than that.

“Okay I’ll come,” Hanbin paused for a second. “When do you want me to come?” he added as he rested his eyes on the attraction that shot right up in the air and falling down with a high speed, making the people scream and laugh like crazy.

“In 20,” he simply said, making Hanbin’s eyes widen.

“In 20?” Hanbin almost shouted in frustration.

“is 20 minutes a problem?” his father asked with a more serious voice this time, making Hanbin rethink his reaction.

“No, no not at all!” he faked a smile, even though he father wouldn’t see it. What would Hanbin do now? He was already hanging out with Jinhwan, and he had a really great time. The least thing he wanted was to leave. Jinhwan would be really disappointed if he did eave, or would he? Had Jinhwan had a great time with him? After all, Hanbin had almost scared him to death, yet the almost kiss in the end must’ve meant something. Hanbin felt his stomach twisting at the thought of not being able to stay with Jinhwan, but when his father was like he was on the phone, Hanbin couldn’t reject him. Hanbin sighed lightly,  “I’ll be there in 20 minutes.”

“Good,” and with that his father hung up, making Hanbin regret even more picking up the phone. Hanbin turned around looking the way he came from. .

For each step came closer to Jinhwan, the more his heart sunk to his stomach, looking at the beautiful boy who was sitting on the bench, so peacefully and quite. Jinhwan looked like an angel, as a strike of sun hit his right cheek, making his heart shaped mole stick out even more beautifully. Hanbin sighed. What he really wanted was to grab Jinhwan’s hand and just run away with him, leaving this place, town maybe even country. When Hanbin was close enough, Jinhwan noticed him and turned with a smile on his face. “Hanbin-ah” Jinhwan said excited, but the smile fell as soon as he saw the pale face of the taller.

“Jinhwan, I-I’m really sorry but I have to go,” he said, trying to sound strong but his voice failed. All Hanbin wanted, was to be with Jinhwan, but he had to go. Jinhwan smiled and nodded, breaking Hanbin’s heart. Hanbin could hear how disappointed Jinhwan was from his voice, and swore that he would never ever hear that disappointment from him again. Hanbin was going to make Jinhwan happy no matter what.

“It’s getting late, and I have to study anyways, but thank you for today,” Jinhwan said as he waved Hanbin off. Hanbin turned around several times during the leave, only to see Jinhwan sit there on the bench alone. Hanbin was filled with more than guilt, and several times he just wanted to turn around and run back to Jinhwan, but he couldn’t. As much as he wanted to be with Jinhwan, he didn’t want to be killed by his father. At last, Hanbin made it to the gates and looked once more behind him, only to see that Jinhwan was gone. He sighed and turned around, nothing had felt worse than leaving him like this.

Upon arrive home, Hanbin had run through the shower and changed from his school uniform to a formal suit. He looked through the mirror and combed his hair to one side. Finally satisfied with his look he got a cab and headed to the restaurant his father had texted him the name of. Manhattan Grill. That is one of the most expensive restaurants in Seoul. Hanbin gulped at how fancy the restaurant was and that his father must’ve want to spend a good time with him, if they were going to such a nice place. Even though Hanbin was excited that he and his father was heading out for dinner tighter, Hanbin still had this knot in his stomach. As the taxi driver pulled to the side, signalling that they were at the destination, Hanbin rushed to pay. In the minute he got out from the car, shivers ran down his spine as he looked up at the huge building. This was real deal.

As e got inside, Hanbin was blinded by the luxury. Hanbin was afraid to touch anything as how expensive it must’ve been. A waiter asked for his reservation, and Hanbin just said his father’s name, which indeed helped. The waiter led him into the restaurant and pointed the way where his father was sitting. Golden chandelier hug down covered in crystals. The chairs were in brown leather, and the tables were an expensive tree specie with a tablecloths which as probably as well rally expensive.

Hanbin noticed where his father sat and started to walk towards him. As Hanbin got closer and closer to his dads place, his heart pumps faster and faster out of nervousness. Isn’t it weird that Hanbin is this afraid to meet his father, even though he is going to a lovely dinner with him?

When Hanbin came closer, he noticed that there were four chairs, he frowned and then looked at his father. “Hanbin! So good to see you my dear son,” He said as he watched Hanbin sitting down, making Hanbin smile in nervousness. “How was school today?” he asked. Hanbin knew he tried to make a conversation. It was not like they used to talk about chill things in life.

“Fine, I guess,” Hanbin smiled unsure, letting out the part where he got a B+, knowing his father wouldn’t be impressed by it.

“That’s good,” he said as he took a sip from his wine that was there already when Hanbin came. He sat the wine glass down in excitement. “Over to the good news. You know how Sunghwa Pretech has always worked together with Shinan Financial Group? Well we are now discussing the cooperation contract, and it seems to go our way,” his father smiled. Hanbin couldn’t help but smile as well over his father who seemed to be happy about it. Being a CEO for Sunghwa Pretech, mustn’t be easy, and you have to go through a lot of paper work. Hanbin is amazed at his father when it comes to his work.

“That’s really great! How far have you come into the agreement?” he asked eagerly.

“Well they have come now, so I guess we’ll continue now,” his father said as he looked past Hanbin, making Hanbin turn to see a man in his forties, and a tall, yet baby-faced kid. Hanbin’s father stood up, greeting them. “Ahhh welcome Jung Yong-byoung! Its an honour to see you again,” He smiled as they shook hands. At first Hanbin was confused over  what just happened, but then he realised. Slowly, but steady Hanbin sank deep into his chair, realising everything. This wasn’t a dinner between his father and him. This was a business dinner, and Hanbin had to take a part in it. Why? He didn’t know yet.

The meeting went on and the old men kept on talking, discussing, agreeing and making joked– probably making a joke over other companies –, and the little kid just sat there calm and awkward, Hanbin couldn’t pay attention. Not that he had much to say, but he should probably have paid attention a little, but his min kept wandering off to a certain small boy. Now, more than ever, Hanbin regretting leaving Jinhwan. He wondered what he was doing. Was he perhaps studying? Or maybe he was helping his sister? Hanbin missed Jinhwan. Recalling the kiss, Hanbin hid his face in his palm, blushing. He had never been closer to anyone, not even the girl he had been ‘dating’. Jinhwan was so small, and the heart shaped mole fit his face perfectly. The way Jinhwan talked was adorable, and how he had his small guests, which he might be embarrassed over, but Hanbin found oddly cute. Jinhwan was beautiful. It annoyed Hanbin how he never before have wanted to be with someone so bad as now. All thanks to Jinhwan. How can such a small person affect him so much? Is not that he wants to be together with him, but just to have him near him. Does that sound selfish? Hanbin didn’t quite understand it himself, but he knew that he did not want Jinhwan out of his life.

“That is correct Jeong Joo,” Hanbin was startled as heard them laugh together. Hearing his fathers name sounded weird, as he hadn’t heard it in ages. “Oh I’m so sorry! I forgot you,” said Yong-byoung, referring to the kid sitting next to him, and across of Hanbin. “Hanbin, I want you to meet my son, he should be about your age, perhaps a bit younger,” the Yong-byoung said. Hanbin then looked at the kid as he the CEO continued. “You may not know him that well now, but you’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other,” he said cheerful. “This is my son Jung Chanwoo,” he said as the kid, Chanwoo, sat up, ready to shake hands with him. Hanbin stood up as well, but surprise hit him fast. Hanbin was amazed over how tall he was, and he was younger than him? Well the baby fat reviled that he was still a kid.

“Chanwoo will take over Shinhan Financial Group after me, and as you know Hanbin, your father and I have a good relationship and therefor the companies work good together. Because of the success we achieve from our cooperation, we want you two to follow our footsteps and make a huge success after us,” he smiled warm at Hanbin. Hanbin was more than shocked over what he had just heard. This little kid? The fact that the boy was younger than him, and was going to take over a even bigger company than Hanbin himself, made him shocked.

“Chanwoo will change school, and begin at the same school as you, one class under you of course,” his father said, smiling at the Yong-byoung. Hanbin sat down again and looked at his father even more surprised. As Chanwoo and his father began talking about something, Hanbin’s father leaned closer to Hanbin, whispering in his ear, “You better take care of that kid, and don’t you dare try to screw things up.” They both leaned apart, leaving Hanbin terrified.

Jinhwan was dead tired as he arrived school. The almost-kiss had made him stay up all night, thinking about it. He fell into the chair as tired as he was. He rested his head on the table, realising, after he became Hanbin’s tutor, Jinhwan haven’t had much time to himself, nor his studies. Jinhwan has been on the go for 100%, meaning he didn’t have time to rest, expect the times he had to. And the almost-kiss didn’t help at all. Just the thought of it made Jinhwan blush a light shade of red. How close Hanbin had been. How gentle his eyes were. How really manly features he had, which makes him so handsome. Jinhwan’s light shade turned to a darker as more thought about Hanbin crossed his mind. Jinhwan’s head shot up as he heard the door slid open. A huge smile crossed his face in the minute he saw Hanbin entering the room, but it soon fell as soon as he saw a kid walking behind him. Jinhwan felt his stomach ace. Who was that? He had never seen him before? More importantly, why was he walking with Hanbin? Jinhwan watched them closely as he heard Hanbin telling him to go to class. Jinhwan felt as is he was hundred pounds easier as soon as the boy had left this classroom. This was probably just a junior who was confused, he calmed himself down. Nothing special at all.

Jinhwan noticed how Hanbin hadn’t talked to him at all. Not that it was normal, since they’re in school, yet it was odd. Hanbin would always make a sort of communication with him during classes, but now he was just lying down on the desk, sleeping. He must’ve been tired. Jinhwan sighed as he looked at him, smiling. He was adorable when he was tired. Turning his attention to black board, Jinhwan focused throughout the first class, letting Hanbin sleep.

As the bell rung and the first class was done, Jinhwan packed his stuff and waited for everyone to leave as he and Hanbin always did, so they could talk alone. “Hanbin I was wondering where we sho-“ Jinhwan was cut off by Hanbin’s sudden look towards the door. Jinhwan looked at where Hanbin was and saw that the kid once again stood by the door, waiting for Hanbin. “Who is that?” Jinhwan almost whispered to Hanbin.

“He’s an old friend,” Hanbin lied. Honestly, yesterday was the first day he had seen the kid, and he had actually not planned on being with the kid, but since his fathers threatening words are worse than his own selfish thoughts.

“Sorry Jinhwan, I have to go,” Hanbin said looking at the kid, leaving Jinhwan all by himself. Jinhwan felt the same knot tighten in his stomach, this time even harder. Hanbin had actually never walked away from him when they talked together, not like this. Jinhwan inhale and exhaled, this kid probably just needed help from him. Talking his bag, he walked an empty rode the to the next class.

The knot had turned to big and sore that Jinhwan didn’t know what to think anymore. For each three classes, the kid had been standing there waiting for Hanbin, making Jinhwan unable to talk to Hanbin. Jinhwan didn’t know why, but he felt anger. All he wanted was to talk to Hanbin, but it seemed like that wasn’t his destiny today. Lunch came around, and that’s when Jinhwan noticed: Donghyuk was gone. Jinhwan looked around and felt his heart turn empty, as there was no sight of Donghyuk. No he was definitely alone. Not that he had Hanbin to be with within school grounds, but still seeing how Hanbin always were together with that tall kid, and that Hanbin didn’t even steal a glance at him, as he usually did because Jinhwan had noticed by the times he had glanced at Hanbin, made Jinhwan feel like someone had thrown a brick in his stomach and the pain wouldn’t go away.

Jinhwan sighed, as he didn’t know whether or not he should talk to Hanbin about it. At least he had the tutor lesson; maybe he should talk to him at that time.  Jinhwan took his lunch with him and walked in the stairway. Looking at the ground, Jinhwan noticed a tall figure in front of him. He quickly looked up and noticed the face immediately. Yunhyeong, from his parallel class.

“Hey, Jinhwan right?” Yunhyeong said smiling. Jinhwan nodded, unsure why Yunhyeong wanted to talk to him. What purpose does he actually have with Jinhwan? Of the seven years they have gone to school together, Yunhyeong has always ignored Jinhwan. Whether it was because he didn’t like Jinhwan or because he avoided having a part in the bullying towards him, Jinhwan didn’t know, but he did know that if Yunhyeong was coming to him, there was definitely something he wanted out from him.

“Cool, uh you see, I was wondering why Donghyuk wasn’t at school today,” Yunhyeong mumbled, as he was afraid he didn’t had Jinhwan’s ‘approval’. Jinhwan was on full guard. Donghyuk? Yunhyeong came to him to ask about Donghyuk? Well it wasn’t weird that anyone would come to Jinhwan is it was something about Donghyuk; they were best friends after all. Yet, still it was weird that him of all would ask. What business could Yunhyeong possibly have with Donghyuk? Would Yunhyeong target Donghyuk by himself? But the weird thing is, he didn’t ask in a taunting or mean way, rather normal or perhaps a sweet way. Was he worried?

“So would you like to share with me?” Yunhyeong asked, as Jinhwan was snapped out of his train of thoughts. Jinhwan had been deep in his mind palace, and hadn’t realised they had stood there in a long silence.

“Uh, Donghyuk he called off sick today,” Jinhwan said looking curious as Yunhyeong. For a second Jinhwan could swear he saw worry in the eye of the taller boy. The worry shifted fast to a smile, even though it didn’t reach out to his eyes.

“Ah okay, thank you. Tell him I said hi if you will see him.” And with that Yunhyeong walked away, with hands in his pocket, leaving Jinhwan following him with his eyes in wonder. What had just happened? Come to think of it, Jinhwan should visit Donghyuk to see if he’s all good, and not dead yet. He had a lot to tell him. Surly Jinhwan didn’t know Donghyuk had things to tell him as well.

Walking into the fourth and last class Jinhwan was once again prepared for not being able to talk to Hanbin. Throughout the class, he stole glances at Hanbin and noticed that his thinking face was on. What could possible worry him? Did that kid do anything to him? Jinhwan had to know what was going on. After class Jinhwan got he contact with Hanbin, and he smiled at him, making Jinhwan blush. This was the first time Hanbin had smiled at him today.

“Hanbin! I was going to talk to you,” Jinhwan said waking up towards him, making Hanbin smile. Oh how he had missed Jinhwan. Hanbin had been stressed all day trying not to scare the kid so he would talk to his father about it, which would be the end of the deal and the death of Hanbin.

“Ah walk with me, I have bad time,” Hanbin answered as he nodded his head in the doors direction. Jinhwan was relived not seeing the kid standing there. They began to walk outside as Jinhwan began, “B.I I was wond-“ Jinhwan was stopped in his track when he saw a tall boy, suddenly grip around Hanbin’s arm. “-dering about the lesson…” he trailed off. Hanbin looked confused at the kid then at Jinhwan.

“Jinhwan I’m so sorry, but I have to cancel it today, I have other plans,” and with that Hanbin left. Jinhwan watched the two of them walking together, the kid liking arms with Hanbin. Jinhwan felt the anger bubble inside of him. Did Hanbin cancel the tutor lesson to be with a kid? Jinhwan couldn’t help but almost wanting to cry. Jinhwan could hear Hanbin talk to the kid. Unconsciously, Jinhwan decided to follow them.

He couldn’t hear what they were saying but Jinhwan saw that Hanbin was leaning closer to the kid, whispering something, which made Jinhwan’s heart ache. Was he close like this to everyone? Was Jinhwan nothing special to Hanbin? What is it with this kid? He suddenly just showed up from nowhere and taking Hanbin away. Away. Hanbin was never his, but still it felt like someone just stole him. With that he felt a tear roll down his cheek as he headed to Donghyuk.

Hanbin dragged Chanwoo with him to under the staircase. And pushed him into the wall. Hanbin was angry. Why the hell would Chanwoo be so clingy to him? It made Hanbin uncomfortable? And worst of all, it sent wrong messages to Jinhwan. What if Jinhwan thought they were a thing now? What if Jinhwan didn’t want to see him, because the pays too much attention to Chanwoo? No. Hanbin didn’t want that. He could still take care of this kid, but he didn’t want him to be clingy.

“Listen,” Hanbin leaned closer, not wanting people to hear, even thought they were in a quite isolated place. “I want you to stop being clingy. I don’t like it, and straight honest, it feels a bit uncomfortable. Do you understand?” Hanbin said, with a sharp yet soft voice. After all, he didn’t want to scare him away. Chanwoo tilted his head.

“But hyung, it’s a scary school, and you’re the only one I know!” Chanwoo pouted. What the hell is wrong with this kid? Hanbin mentally cursed.

“I understand. Just don’t be too clingy, okay?” he said rolling his eyes as he took a step away, sighing. Chanwoo only nodded, but Hanbin didn’t notice the smirk across his lips.
