A Girl In His Life

My tutor Jinhwan

Jinhwan hadn’t felt this surprised in a long time, as after the incidence where B.I literally had made his two bully friends leave Jinhwan, because Jinhwan was with him. It seemed so unrealistic how he, the biggest bully, had saved him, the little nerd, from his own friends. Jinhwan honesty didn’t know if he should be afraid or relieved, after all, he was going to be B.I’s next tutor.

That thought scared the out of Jinhwan, as he now had time to think things over. What did it take to be a tutor? Okay first of all it was patience, if it was a normal person he was going to tutor, but now he was going to tutor his bully. He probably has to do anything that does not piss B.I off or else he would get bullied at his place as well as school. Oh wow this is getting better and better. Being sarcastic to oneself doesn’t help at all.

As B.I began to walk, Jinhwan followed him out of the schools ground. Out of reflex, Jinhwan looked behind him and were surprised when he noticed Bobby and Junhwe stood by the entrance door to the school, whispering to each other, confused. Jinhwan understood it though; it was not normal for literally anyone to see the schools biggest bully and nerd walk out of school, together. However, receiving these kinds of reactions from his friends, brought a satisfying feeling for Jinhwan, resulting with a small grin forming his lips, as Jinhwan had slipped out a small chuckle. Even though Jinhwan hadn’t notice the chuckle, it didn’t go unnoticed for B.I. Annoyed, the taller lad stopped up making the smaller boy, who were in his own thoughts, walk right into him.

“You little brat, what are you doing? Your chuckle annoys me, so shut up,” he said as he continued to walk. Jinhwan’s heart sank deep down at B.I’s words. He kept silent after B.I’s harsh words, wondering, what had he ever done? Yup Jinhwan shouldn’t piss him off. A though crossed his mined in that moment. If they are going home to his place, his parents are definitely going to be there, which means that B.I couldn’t do anything towards Jinhwan, right? On the other hand, Jinhwan had seen how he was towards the teachers, even a punch, which made a wrinkle of concern form in Jinhwan’s forehead.

Jinhwan looked up at the taller boys, who’s back were facing him. Could he really be bad at home as well? Does his parents know about his behaviour? How do they feel? Jinhwan wasn’t really sure how a parent should react, as his mom never was home to react at something. His sister would react at some time, but usually it was in that I’m-the-big-sister-mood where she acts as she can do and decide everything. Jinhwan sighted at the thought of his family and focused on B.I again. It was in this moment Jinhwan realised how tall B.I was.

Walking a few meters behind him and being able to study him, you will be able to notice new things. In Jinhwan’s case, he noticed how B.I would lean slighter more to the right side. Jinhwan noticed how his shirt wasn’t tucked down in his pants as the school rules says. He noticed how B.I’s uniform jacket was slug over his arms, and his hands rested in the pocket. He noticed the backpack that was slung over on one shoulder. Perhaps that’s the reason why he leans his body weight a bit more to the right side, because he always have the backpack over on that side? He looked up at the tallers head. For some reason, Jinhwan liked that B.I had kept his natural hair colour. There was this trend to colour their hair in different colours that didn’t quite catch Jinhwan. Donghyuk had even fall for the trend and had coloured his hair military green, and even though Jinhwan didn’t like it, he had to admit that he liked it on Donghyuk. Jinhwan smiled to himself as he realised he compared his best friend and the biggest bully he knew.

Somehow he enjoyed walking next to Hanbin, although he didn't dare to say a word, as he was afraid he would hit him or slung him into a bush or does something to hurt him, he still felt the silent walk was comfortable, like he was protected in some sort of way.

Suddenly a voice made Jinhwan startled for a second, ripping him out of his thoughts. “Are you going to follow up or what? If I’m late then you can do nothing but beg for a tomorrow,” he threatened. Jinhwan knew that his threats weren’t silent threats. He knew that there probably wouldn’t be a tomorrow for him if he didn’t obey.

When Jinhwan, who was walking some meters behind Hanbin, noticed the surroundings, it came to his biggest surprise where they were heading. Although he was confused as one possibly could be, he still kept silence; after all he was walking with Hanbin. He hadn’t been here in ages, and it somehow still looked the same. After they stood outside the kindergarten door, Hanbin turned around and looked at Jinhwan.

"You don't say a thing," Jinhwan gulped and nodded as response. Satisfied, Hanbin turned around and wakes in. Hanbin searched the room for a small figure.

"Hanbin oppa!!" Was suddenly heard throughout the whole room. Jinhwan was confused over the use of ‘Hanbin’ as he was used to hear B.I all the time. Hanbin bent down and picked up the little girl who just ran into his arms, with a huge grin plastered on his face. Jinhwan swore that this was the first time ever he had seen Hanbin smile so much, actually smiled in general! Jinhwan had been unsure if B.I knew how to smile, but found out today that he could. B.I picked the sparkle of sunshine up and spun her around some times, making the little girl laugh. Jinhwan, feeling dumfounded, only stood there with a smile crossing his lips as he saw how lovely B.I could be. Suddenly a young woman, probably in early 20ies, came walking towards B.I, which caught Jinhwan off guard.

"Ahh Hanbin-ah!" She smiled from ear to ear. "Hanbyul has been waiting all day, she was simply impossible today!" She let out a soft frustration and smiled in despair at Hanbyul, whom Jinhwan assumed was the small girl. Jinhwan couldn’t help but smile as he saw how B.I held Hanbyul in his arms and laughed at her behaviour. He didn’t know why, but he liked seeing him this way. B.I had actually a caring and brotherly side. However, what Jinhwan did not like was the way the day-care lady behaved around him. Jinhwan’s smile faded as the day-care lady suddenly said something that made both of them laugh, and she suddenly touched B.I’s arm. Jinhwan didn't know why, but the way the caretaker was smiling and touching him in that way made him uncomfortable. He just wanted to get out of there, but didn't dear, not knowing what B.I would do to him. Why would he feel this strange feeling? He couldn’t put a finger on what it was, but what he already knew was that he did not like the way the chemistry between B.I and the lady worked.

He just looked around, trying to focus on something else. He noticed on the wall, there were lots of colourful papers hanging. Curious he walked over to the wall and looked at the paintings the kids had painted. There were quite a lot of different paintings. Some were something that could resemble animals, some were nature, flower and trees, and some were stickmen. He had to admit, they were terrible, but that’s what made them so cute. He saw a pic of a tall stick man and a short stick (wo)man who held hands. Jinhwan chuckled when he saw the name “Hanbyul” scribbled on the bottom right of the picutre and assumed that it was she and Hanbin. Jinhwan was ripped out of his focus on the drawings, as a silhouette suddenly took place beside him. Without realising it, B.I – still holding Hanbyul – had bent down beside him. For no reason in practical, Jinhwan felt happy as he glanced at the lady, who watched them. “Jinhwan are you ready to go?” B.I said with such a sweet and loving voice, which totally caught Jinhwan off guard. Had B.I called him by his name? Surprised at one could get; Jinhwan nodded his head and stood up along with B.I.

B.I thanked the young lady – who Jinhwan really didn’t like now – and walked off to the gates, where Jinhwan was waiting. They walked out of the kindergarten area and headed to their house. Jinhwan walked behind the siblings. Hanbyul was sitting on B.I’s shoulders while her hand rested on his head. He constantly heard laughter from the young girl. B.I had asked what she had done today, and Hanbyul had tried to tell what she had been doing. She could talk, that was not the problem, but she still had bits of the baby language left. Jinhwan wasn’t quite sure how this worked, but somehow B.I was excellent with kids, which came as a huge surprise for Jinhwan who didn’t thought B.I knew how to treat other human beings.

Jinhwan saw Hanbyul turned around and looked at Jinhwan. Jinhwan smiled to the younger, however, all of sudden she started to kick B.I’s chest, wanting to come down. When she was on the ground, she ran towards Jinhwan and looked up at him curious. “Hi there,” Jinhwan smiled, making the young girl look away. Jinhwan wasn’t sure whether he scared her or what. Jinhwan’s head turned towards B.I as he spoke. “Hanbyul, I’ve never seen you this shy, what’s the matter?” he chuckled. B.I chuckled. And it was not an evil, sarcastic chuckle, but a real and a cute one. Hanbyul’s cheeks were all red and she looked away. Jinhwan couldn’t help but to laugh a little at her cuteness. B.I sighted walking towards her. “Come were soon home,” he said as he took her hand and began to walk. To both the guys surprise she stopped in her track and extended her hand towards Jinhwan as well. Jinhwan looked confused at B.I, only to receive a nod, and took the small hand in his. And like that, they three walked, Hanbyul in the middle, holding both the boys hands.

As they kept walking, Jinhwan couldn’t recognise the era anymore. Jinhwan had never been to this part of the city before, where there were trees with a fancy fence around each and every tree. He noticed how symmetrical, and satisfying it all looked. The houses came in different shapes and forms, but still there was pattern. You could easily see that this was a rich man’s street. Jinhwan felt the small girls hand slip as she ran in front of them. She ran into an. “Ah! Hanbyul be careful!” B.I shouted to her with concern in his voice. Jinhwan couldn’t help but giggle at the concerned brother. B.I looked over at him and slowed down. Out of reflex, Jinhwan slowed down as well. “When we get to my place you’ll call me Hanbin, no questions, just do it” He ordered "oh and don't even dare to tell anyone about this" he added. Confused Jinhwan looked at him and nodded. Somewhat he understood him. Hanbin had a 'reputation' of a bad boy. Having a baby sis that he cares so much for doesn't help at all. Their heads turned to the inpatient girl who was shouting for them to come. Jinhwan was shocked to see the house she stood in front of. She had never been to such a huge house before. Was this really his house?

When they got inside Hanbin used the first half an hour to get the little girl to eat and try to sleep, but being as hyper as she was, it wasn’t easy. After she was finally cooperating with him and fell asleep, Hanbin and Jinhwan went to Hanbin’s room ready for the study session. However, now Hanbin was the one who didn’t cooperate. “B.I- eh Hanbin I mean” Jinhwan changed the use of names as Hanbin glared at him. “I think you´re supposed to use subtraction here let me-“ Jinhwan was cut off by Hanbin who leaned towards his bed, sighting.

“Geez, why is math important anyway?” Jinhwan opened his mouth to answer but Hanbin shoot in “don’t answer, it’s a rhetorical question.” Jinhwan looked down at his hands. An awkward silence filled each corner of the room as none of the boys said a word. In that moment Jinhwan felt like he was right. He wasn’t a good tutor at all, and what could he teach this boy? If the teachers couldn’t, how could he? After sitting in silence for some minutes, Hanbin stood up. “I’m going to the toilet,” he said not looking at Jinhwan. In the meantime, Jinhwan could find a way do the tutoring easier, but how?

Jinhwan has to use another way to make it understandable for Hanbin, but what? What on earth could ever interest Hanbin, or B.I? Jinhwan’s head shoot up when the door opened and Hanbin came in with a tray of two cups and some pringles. Confusion hit Jinhwan hard. Was this really the same person as he went to school with? Or was this the kind twin brother? Jinhwan could never be sure, but one thing he knew for sure, Jinhwan wouldn’t let his guard down. Hanbin noticing the surprised look on Jinhwan sighted. “When I was younger, my mother would always bring me and my friends tea and pringles. I guess it just became a habit to do?” He scratched the back of his neck as he had already sat down the tray. Jinhwan smiled to himself.

Seeing Hanbin’s new side, Jinhwan felt happy and somewhat special. He couldn’t stop smiling at the thought and it seemed like Hanbyul liked Jinhwan, which made him even happier. He had always wished for a younger sibling he could protect, but he was the maknae in his family, which thinking back to now, Jinhwan wouldn’t change. Then slowly but steady, his smile fell. Did Hanbyul like Seojun as well? Maybe she even liked Seojun better than him. Why did Jinhwan suddenly feel a pain in his stomach? It was not like he could be jealous over a small girl liking someone else better? Or was it even the girl he felt it towards? Were it maybe her brother? No it couldn’t have been that. Jinhwan clutched to his cup of tea, as he felt the nervousness crept up on him. Whether or not Jinhwan should ask, he didn’t know, but his curiosity had other plans for him. Before Jinhwan could register what he was doing, his mouth opened and words came out. “S-so how did Seojun like it here? D-Did Hanbyul like him well?” Jinhwan stuttered, as he tried to stop himself to ask, but failed. His question earned a glace from Hanbin who slung his cap on the bed.  Frowning, Hanbin walked over to the floor table, and sat down across for Jinhwan.

“What do you mean? I never took him home. We would usually study at school or at Bobby or June’s place,” he said as he sipped from cup of tea.

“B-but why did you bring me h-home to y-you?” Jinhwan stuttered more than he usually would do, but for some reason, Jinhwan couldn’t be cool and collected as he usually would be. Was it because he was at Hanbin’s place for the first time, or because he was alone with Hanbin, he never knew, but still he was nervous and didn’t know what to think or say.

Hanbin shrugged with his shoulders and answered with a mischievous smile across his face “I don’t know, maybe because I like you?” Even though Hanbin only , Jinhwan’s heart skipped a beat at his answer. Never in his life had Jinhwan expected that, at least not from him.  Jinhwan tried to calm down his beating heart by thinking that he was only joking, which Hanbin was, but somehow, Jinhwan couldn’t be still about it. He didn’t know why, but it made his heart flutter, and that was something he didn’t like.
