What's Wrong?

My tutor Jinhwan

Hurt and confusion was one of the many things Jinhwan felt at the moment. He was hurt my Hanbin’s sharp words, calling him a midget. Well he was used to being called rude things, but it was his harsh way of speaking that really made Jinhwan hurt. Why though? They only hung out as a break today, there was nothing to be worried about, and why would he be worried? After seeing Hanbin today, how he was paying attention to his family story, Jinhwan thought they actually had a better chemistry than before, and could actually become friends. A sigh slipped from Jinhwan’s mouth as he realised that would probably never happen.

The confusion, on the other hand, came from the current situation he was in. How he had agreed to follow the tall black haired boy, he wouldn’t be sure. Even though he was probably the only help Jinhwan could get, he did still not trust him 100%. After all he was friends with B.I, and if Jinhwan knew them well enough, this was probably a ambush where Junhwe would probably lead him to a dark alley, were the rest of the gang is, and they’ll probably beat him up. Event thought that was a high possibility; Jinhwan wasn’t really afraid, and he was still following the taller.

Jinhwan sighed as he looked at the taller in front of him. He was resting his hands in his pockets and kept looking forwards. It was weird to see Junhwe outside school. Usually he would wear a the uniform shirt and pants, but now he was wearing a baseball jacket in black and skinny jeans, which was actually totally his style, after what impression Jinhwan had gotten from Junhwe. They had gone in a long silence, and not a comfortable one, which it had been with Hanbin. Quite the opposite actually. Jinhwan could feel the awkwardness eat him from the inside, but as Junhwe was his only help, he had no other options to but to bare with the awkwardness.

The chill wind in the air, tickled Jinhwan’s nose, as he dug his nose down in his scarf. Looking down on the ground, he let his thoughts take over. Why had Hanbin reacted the way he did? As far as Jinhwan knew, he hadn’t done anything wrong. Not at all. To be called a midget by the same person you open up a bit to really does feel horrible. The thought made a huge knot in his tiny stomach to appear, and Jinhwan didn’t dare to think further on. Thinking back to it; it all changed when Junhwe came. Was Hanbin afraid of something? Worse, was Hanbin ashamed to be seen out with Jinhwan? The knot became even bigger in his stomach. Jinhwan knew there was a certain difference between them, and he knew that there was a small chance for them to have a friendship, but still he felt that there was something different with Hanbin.

Usually when people break an awkward silence, it atmosphere becomes better, yet in this situation, it only became worse. “So why would a nerd like you, hang out with B.I?” Jinhwan suddenly heard as he looked up from the ground, noticing that Junhwe was looking at him over his shoulder. The awkwardness grew even wider by Junhwe’s question. Only this time: the cocky smirk Junhwe wore earlier, was gone, and was replaced by a worried, open mouth. Jinhwan was unsure what to answer. Did his friends know that Jinhwan was his tutor, or had he not enlightened them? If that’s the case, then maybe he shouldn’t bring that up.

“I-I was here, and randomly stumbled upon him,” Jinhwan said as he tried his best to sound convincing, but honestly speaking; that wouldn’t convince a living soul. Junhwe was definitely not convinced.

“Why the hell would you come here, if you can’t even find your way home?” the annoyance grew for each word he said, Jinhwan could tell. Yet he dared to try again.

“I-I was visiting a friend, then I couldn’t be there anymore and then had to go home,” Jinhwan gulped.

“And that’s why you randomly stumbled upon B.I and eats a ing ice cream with him?” Jinhwan could hear the annoyance in Junhwe’s voice, meaning: his lies couldn’t help him. Jinhwan, who was worried how to respond hadn’t noticed that Junhwe stopped, and walked right into him.

Looking around to identify where they were, he asked: “why did you stop?” At the same time as he noticed there was a buss sign, he heard Junhwe’s husky voice: “this is the bus stop” Jinhwan could hear the annoyance in his voice. Afraid Junhwe would keep talking about why Jinhwan was here, Jinhwan looked away, praying he was done. A sigh was heard as Junhwe leaned against the bus sign. “You should know, B.I, he can be quite…” Junhwe paused as he thought for the right words to say. “He’s quite the person,” he said as he looked at Jinhwan, who was more than confused.

“W-What do you mean?” Jinhwan said as he sat down on the bench, trying to make sense of Junhwe’s statement. Jinhwan knew that Hanbin was quite the confusing person, yet he didn’t think he was that bad. Then again, remembering how they had been sitting there, enjoying the ice cream, and then in a minute, he changes into an awful person again. Jinhwan was more than confused.

Junhwe sighed as he saw how the smaller was written with confusion all over his face. “Let me tell you this, is there one thing I know for sure, is that you can’t trust him. B.I is not the person you should trust.” He said as he stood up again, balancing the weight on both his feet and turned in front of Jinhwan. Words couldn’t describe how confused Jinhwan was. Jinhwan thought Junhwe was one of B.I’s closest friends, yet he stands here and tells this to him. How could he? He is the worst. Yet his words did make him shiver. Couldn’t he trust Hanbin? Hanbin may be a bad person, at least at school, but at home, he is a totally different person. Didn’t Junhwe know that side of Hanbin? Didn’t anyone in his gang know about it?

Junhwe knew the smaller was more than confused now, which satisfied him. As much as he loved B.I as his brother, he didn’t want him near Jinhwan, as he knew his own feelings for the smaller. Yes, he wasn’t gay, but still that er did something with him. The gang had a pact to never go for the same girl, but it never says anything about going on the same guy, does it? This was his shot.

Jinhwan was deep in his though when suddenly Junhwe leaned downwards, as their heads where at the same height. Jinhwan felt a huge discomfort cross his body, as Junhwe was this close. To be honest, the time when B.I forced him to be his tutor, how close he was in his face, was way more comfortable than Junhwe’s closeness was now.

“A person you can trust on the other hand, is me,” Junhwe’s husky voice filled Jinhwan ear, sending shivers down Jinhwan’s spine, in discomfort. This was way out of Jinhwan’s liking. And what would Hanbin think if he saw this? Wait, why would he even think of Hanbin in this situation? Jinhwan stood straight up and walked a few meters away from the taller. He noticed the bus, and waved like crazy, as the bus was his only escape at the moment. He nearly ran into the buss as sat down. He looked at Junhwe who only smirked at him, before leaving. As the buss began to roll, he realised: he forgot his stuff at Hanbin’s place.

Hanbin couldn’t help but become angry in these situations. Honestly he didn’t know why, but he couldn’t control his temper and become angry. He had a great time, and got to know Jinhwan better, but in the minute Junhwe appeared and it all turned out wrong. That ing bastard. He didn’t mean to become angry, but as Junhwe came, a knot were created in his stomach and he felt nothing but anger. B.I didn’t even know why he wanted to spend time with the midget, it’s not like he wants more to it than studying. This whole was a mess and he was tired of it. B.I was lying over his desk as he looked at the bag on the floor. A warm feeling rushed through his body, and he couldn’t help but smile. Jinhwan had forgotten his things at his place, and B.I had taken it with him today at school. Hanbin hid his face in his arms, as he remembers yesterday.

When he got home, he was still angry and slammed the door. To his surprise his father was at home and not with a happy face. His fathers’ strict face was glaring at him telling him not to slam the doors when his younger sister was sleeping. As proud as Hanbin was, there was still one person who could make him loose his confidence with only a glance: his father. Hanbin looked down at the floor apologising. “You should be apologising for that, but this,” he said as he showed him a piece of paper that showed his last grades. His grades had went form A’s and B’s to C’ and D’s, but Hanbin’s plan had all along been to hide the papers and let Jinhwan tutor him so he could lift those grades, and show his father that nothing had changed. However, that changed fast as his father had showed his grades in his face. Hanbin gulped as he was prepared for what was coming.

He closed his eyes. Silence filled the room, before a loud and clear slap was heard from every corner of the room. The blood pumped in his cheek and pain spread from where he had been hit, to across the side of his face. As much as Hanbin wanted to scream in pain, yell back, or let out a cry, he couldn’t. He was locked the position of being unable to do anything.

“Don’t you dare come into my house as if you own it, when your grades are this bad. My son is not going to have this bad grades, you bring shame to the family,” his harsh words cut like scars in Hanbin’s ears. He didn’t know whether the pain from the slap or his fathers’ words hurt the most, but surly they both did hurt him. “Go up to your room and study. Don’t you dare come out before you have learned the book you’ll have next year,” he said strictly.

“Yes father,” was all Hanbin managed to say, before his father his heels and walked into the office. As his father slammed the door, Hanbin ran upstairs as he felt tears gathered up in his eyes. He refused to cry though. His father hated him enough already; he didn’t need to show how weak he is and cry even more.

When Hanbin entered his room, he noticed how all of Jinhwan’s stuff was still there. He smiled to himself, remembering the conversation they had while eating ice cream. Then his smile faded. Jinhwan also had a bad condition at home, yet he smiled as if nothing. That annoyed Hanbin. He grabbed Jinhwan’s pen, which he always used, and played with it. It was a black pen, which had small Mickey Mouse ears on top of it. Hanbin couldn’t help but smile. After all, he loved Mickey Mouse. He packed Jinhwan’s stuff and sat them beside his bag. He wished Jinhwan were there to tutor him, to get his mind on something else. Maybe Jinhwan could understand him a bit and help him?

B.I sat up from his desk as he saw Jinhwan. Jinhwan smiled unsure at him as he approached him. “G-good morning.” Jinhwan’s stutter made Hanbin smile, as he saw how nervous Jinhwan seemed to be. But there were something different about him. He seemed unsure about something. Hanbin was about to ask, when Junhwe approached Jinhwan.

“Did you get home safely yesterday?” he asked as he winked at him. He winked at him. Hanbin could see the confusion in Jinhwan’s face as he Junhwe walked away, which pissed him off. Hanbin once again felt this knot being tied in his stomach and the small and confused Jinhwan didn’t help him at all.

Jinhwan shifted gaze from Junhwe to Hanbin, who was glaring at him, like there was no tomorrow for him. “Sorry Han- B.I, I forgot my ba-“ before Jinhwan could even answer, Hanbin threw the bag at him, and stood up, walking with firm, yet chilled steps out of the classroom, making each person he passes, terrified. Unsure what just happened, Jinhwan followed Hanbin with his eyes. Was Hanbin still angry from yesterday? And why was he angry in the first place? Jinhwan was about to run after him, when suddenly an arm gripped around him. Jinhwan looked at the person who held him, and noticed Donghyuk. Jinhwan sighted as he was on the verge to cry. He looked at his best friend as Donghyuk nodded. Donghyuk had observed everything and was ready to get an explanation from Jinhwan.

After class, Jinhwan and Donghyuk went out on the roof, as they were to eat lunch. “I was tutoring B.I as usual, right? And things went fine, we decided to take a break and eat ice cream. We bought ice cream and talked about stuff, and my family.” Jinhwan explained. Yeah Jinhwan had also told it to Donghyuk, after all, Donghyuk was his best friend. A deep frown was formed in his best friend’s forehead as he took a bite of his food. Jinhwan sighed as he continued to explain Hanbin’s rage, and Junhwe who followed him to the buss, and what he told him. After he had explain everything, with hints of lies, Jinhwan let out a frustrated groan as he laid down on the ground.

“Hanbin suddenly became angry and raged? And Junhwe did that?” Donghyuk asked as a confirmation over all the information he had received. Jinhwan nodded silently and Donghyuk couldn’t help but sigh. Why did he treat him like that? What had Jinhwan ever done to B.I in the first place? Donghyuk looked down at the schoolyard, and looked at all the people. Suddenly he spotted B.I laughing, fair enough. However, he was laughing because he and his gang were over at one victim. As far from what Donghyuk saw, they had kicked the kid so he fell on the ground. Donghyuk sighed disappointed. These guys. He looked a further around and noticed the one boy he hadn’t hoped to see with them. Yunhyeong. Even though Yunhyeong was a part of the gang, he still hoped that he might have been a bit better than the others, but seeing that he is laughing along with the others, only made Donghyuk disappointed.

Yunhyeong didn’t know why, but he felt a sudden discomfort in standing there and laughing at the poor boy. It hadn’t been as fun as it usually was. It felt more or less like someone was watching him, someone who he didn’t want to se him.  Yunhyeong looked up at the sky, but was blinded by the sun that shone clear and bright on the blue sky. He used one hand to cast a shadow to his eyes. He looked up t the rooftop and noticed a familiar figure looking down at him. In the minute he realised it was Donghyuk, he smiled and waved.

“It looks like he’s waving at you,” Jinhwan said as he was chewing a mouthful of food. Donghyuk noticed it as well, but didn’t dare to look at him. However, Donghyuk knew he would. He needed to make someone stop them from bullying Jinhwan. If Donghyuk hadn’t been clear the last time he talked to Yunhyeong, he sure was going to make it clear this time.

“Jinan, I’ll go to the toilet, my stomach aches, so you can just leave,” he said as he petted his stomach, hoping Jinhwan would fall for his stupid lie. What if he didn’t though? He was easy to read, and they had been friends for such a long time, Jinhwan would probably be mad at him if he found out, beside Jinhwan never lied to him. But this was for him, so technically it wasn’t a bad lie is only he cou-

“Okay” Donghyuk was shot out of the train of thoughts. He looked at his hyung surprised over his answer. He took a moment to rethink it before he excused himself and ran as fast as he could.

The closer the clock was to ring in for a new class, the more nervousness filed Donghyuk’s heart as it beat way faster than it should. He looked nervously around, all the people passing, but not the one he was searching for. Then he saw him. He was walking with his gang as usual, laughing. Even though there was a glimpse of discomfort in his eyes. Had something happened? Donghyuk stood with Yunhyeong’s locker, in hope that he would stop by. Luck was at his side, as he saw Yunhyeong wave to the others, before he went to his locker. Donghyuk snuck towards him, hoping that the other people would pass by real quick, so they could talk alone. Yunhyeong was a bit startled when he closed his locker, only to find the same boy looking at him, with a serious face. He couldn’t help but chuckle before he turned serious again.

“I-I’ve already told you about this, but you need to stop B.I from being too harsh against Jinhwan, a-and please stop Junhwe as well,” Donghyuk said, stuttering worse than ever. Yunhyeong chuckled, and plastered a cocky smile across his face. “How come Jinhwan or B.I always be your topic when we talk together? Should we also be a topic?” Yunhyeong wiggled his eyebrows at Donghyuk. “Shouldn’t we take out time talking at a café maybe?” he asked all calm and serious, with a hint of a smirk in the corner of his lips.  Donghyuk on the other hand, he was about freak out, and was sure that his heart would beat out of his chest. Had Yunhyeong asked him out indirectly? Donghyuk didn’t know whether it was s good idea or not, but as long as he could talk sense in the others head, then he’ll be more than happy. If he said yes for Jinhwan or him self was an unanswered question.
