Insecurity

My tutor Jinhwan

Tears? Yeah Jinhwan had cried, but what for? It was not like Hanbin was his. It was not like they were a thing. Yet still it hurts. Doesn’t it always hurt when you see the person you like, almost kiss someone else? Jinhwan couldn’t help but feel disappointed when the scene, where Hanbin leaned closer to the kid, kept repeating in his head. He wished more than anything that he never saw it, or that it never happened. Then his mind crossed over to somethign else and immediately Jinhwan felt bad. During the time he has had this drama he had completely forgotten his own best friend and hadn’t noticed that he had become sick. Though he couldn’t recall any scenes where Donghyuk could’ve caught a cold, still he understood it. After all, Donghyuk has a really bad immune system and he was always sick as a kid. Jinhwan chuckled at his own best friend’s bad immune system. That kid.

When finally arriving Donghyuk’s house, Jinhwan looked through his phone, before entering. No new messages or calls from a certain person. Jinhwan sighed in disappointment. However there was no reason for him to be disappointed. What had he actually expected? That Hanbin would call or text him? Jinhwan chuckled coldly at himself. There were no chance that he ever would get Hanbin to chase after him, besides, Jinhwan’s impression of Hanbin is that he likes girls, yes girls, who are tough, knows they way around and is badass. As for Jinhwan, he was non of the parts. He was not a girl, nor tough or badass, and he definitely didn’t know his way around. He sighed as he decided to knock on the door, and short time afterwards, a surprised Donghyuk appeared at the other side of the door. “Hyung?” he asked confused, and Jinhwan replied with a smile and a wave.

Donghyuk had made tea and placed a tray down beside them, as they sat in the living room. “Tell me, why are you here?” Jinhwan looked at Donghyuk in confusion. “Well since you usually have tutor lesson with B.I today right?” Jinhwan then mouthed an ‘ahh’. “Well he cancelled,” Jinhwan simply said, not wanting to bring up the subject. Jinhwan looked around, searching. “Your parents are at work?” Donghyuk noticed how Jinhwan badly wanted to change the subject, and didn’t want to push him more.

Donghyuk looked up at him and smiled. “Yeah, they’ll be back in another three hours,” he said as he sat down on the floor beside Jinhwan. Then he started to ramble about how his day at home had been – which was fairly boring – which had Jinhwan thinking: what was really wrong with him?

Jinhwan squinted his eyes as he studied his best friend. His voice was all fine, he wasn’t paler than usual, he walked and moved just fine, and over all he looked about normal to him. “You don’t seem to be that sick?” Jinhwan said as he took a sip from the tea, getting Donghyuk’s attention. Donghyuk looked over at Jinhwan, who was smirking at him, knowing his best friend was hiding something.

“I am much better now thank you,” Donghyuk said smiling as he took his cup of tea. Jinhwan knew that Donghyuk was on at something, but he didn’t feel like pushing him. When Donghyuk was ready, then Jinhwan was ready to listen. They sat in a long silence, Jinhwan, who was all clam and sat there just admiring how Mr. and Mrs. Kim had refurnished the living room into a more modern design, although Jinhwan personally liked the old style better. Donghyuk on the other hand was as nervous as one could get. His heart was nearly up in his throat and inside his stomach it was all hot. Donghyuk felt the sweat run down his back. Why was he so nervous all of sudden.

“Hyung?” Donghyuk said, making Jinhwan shift gaze from an old oicture of Donghyuk at his parents, to him.

“Hmmm,” Jinhwan answered as he took a sip from his tea.

Donghyuk was silent for a while, wondering how he should formulate his question, although his question is really simple. “What do you think about Yunhyeong, B.I’s friend,” Donghyuk asked, making Jinhwan a bit dumbfound. Of all things, Jinhwan hadn’t though Donghyuk would bring up Yunhyeong.

“Err… I guess his fine? He hasn’t been as bad as Hanbin’s friends, bobby and Junhwe, and he have stopped them some times, so I guess he’s fine yeah. Why you asking?” Jinhwan was obviously curious and Donghyuk had no lies to cover up so he went straight forward:

“I met up with him after school to discuss B.I’s behaviour towards you, and it was meant to be a confrontation, but then…” Donghyuk took a deep breath before hurriedly speaking the last words. “ThenhesuddenlyconfessedtomeandIhavenocluewhattodo” Jinhwan was taken aback by Donghyuk’s hurriedly confession of what happened and had to stop the latter from continuing.

“Wait, wait, wait, did you just say that Yunhyeong confessed to you?” Jinhwan said with wide eyes as surprise hit him hard. Donghyuk nodded shyly, yet relived as he finally had gotten that off his chest. Donghyuk had wanted to tell Jinhwan, to get some advice, but never had a chance at all, and the thoughts and feeling had been eating him alive. Donghyuk looked careful up at Jinhwan. To his surprise, Jinhwan was so shocked that he became speechless. Jinhwan had no words. Not in a bad way, but never had he ever imagined that Yunhyeong of all the people would have his eyes on Donghyuk. Yet again, Jinhwan could understand, Donghyuk was a good boy and good looking, so it wasn’t that much of a surprise. Still Jinhwan had hard to connect the reality.

Donghyuk looked at his best friend. Jinhwan had been silent for too long for Donghyuk’s liking. Even though Donghyuk had reviled it, he felt the nervousness came back as he watched Jinhwan’s thinking wrinkle became deeper and deeper in between his eyebrows. It wasn’t that bad, right? Yunhyeong wasn’t that bad right?

Jinhwan, still in his mind palace, glanced at Donghyuk and noticed how the kid was almost drowning in his own sweat of nervousness. Jinhwan, realising that he had made him this nervous, broke off the silence. “Then what do you feel about him?” He asked looking curious at him.

Donghyuk looked from Jinhwan to the floor. What did he really feel about Yunhyeong? Was he ready to jump into a relationship without even knowing the person? “Honestly I’m unsure about my feelings towards him, but I know there’s something there, but he seems rather nice?” Donghyuk smiled as he recalled the scene in the café, however a blush was quick to come as he remembered Yunhyeong’s confession. Jinhwan was quick to notice how embarrassed and shy he got and began to . “Ehhhh, ehhhhh,” he said cheekily as he poked Donghyuk’s cheek, that were even more red now than earlier. “Jinaaaaaan,” Donghyuk whined as Jinhwan kept teasing him while laugh over the youngers embarrassment. Donghyuk then gave in and began to laugh with him.

As Jinhwan heard Donghyuk’s laughter, Jinhwan settle down on his seat again. As the laugh faded, Jinhwan became serious and looked at Donghyuk who was still on the bright side, laughing. “Donghyuk-ah, I want you to follow your heart and don’t feel like your being pushed in either of the directions, but promise me to be careful, okay, after all he is with Hanbin’s gang,” Jinhwan said as his smile were all faded and replaced by a serious face. Donghyuk noticed the gloominess on the smaller.

“What happened?” Donghyuk asked as his laughter had died out and he was now fully paying attention. He knew this had something to do with B.I and Donghyuk didn’t like it at all. Jinhwan began explaining everything that happened from Hanbin getting a B+ on the test, how much of a surprise it had been to him, considering how bad he had done, to the amusement park and how much fun they had had together just the two of them, to the haunted house and how terrifying it had been to be lost there, but luckily Hanbin has saved him, and till the almost kiss, where he was cut off by a very surprised Donghyuk.

“He almost kissed you?” Donghyuk nearly shouted as Jinhwan felt like vanishing away from the earth’s surface.

“Y-yeah, but then,” Jinhwan trailed off, thinking of the bad sight. “I saw him kiss someone else, that Chanwoo kid, a new kid in school,” Jinhwan said as he felt tears stung up behind his eyes.

Donghyuk were dangerously silent for a while, and Jinhwan was terrified that Donghyuk perhaps planned a murder or something. Suddenly Donghyuk stood angry as never before. “So he’s freaking playing with you? Are you just a toy to him?!” Jinhwan could feel the anger in Donghyuk from far away. Somehow Jinhwan was reminded about what Junhwe had said to him that time at the bus stop, not to trust Hanbin. Was it this Junhwe had meant? That Hanbin plays around. Honestly Jinhwan hadn’t thought Hanbin was even interested in boys, but it seemed like he maybe could be. The thought brought happiness to his small body. If Hanbin could like guys, there would be a chance for him, but then again, he already kissed Chanwoo. Jinhwan felt frustration take over and didn’t know what do feel or do. Jinhwan looked carefully at Donghyuk, who seemed to still be angry. Donghyuk was almost red in his face of anger, and Jinhwan knew this was no good. Donghyuk stood up. “Jinhwan, I don’t want you to see him, or tutor him if he’s only going to play with you, because you obviously like him!” Donghyuk bluntly said, with a stern look on his face.

“W-What? I-I don’t l-like him!” Jinhwan tried to defend himself. his face was painted with a deep shade of redness and his heart skipped a beat as he registered what Donghyuk had said. Like him? Like B.I? Kim Hanbin? Did Jinhwan really like Hanbin? Well it would explain why he feels so happy each time Hanbin is around, and it would explain why it hurt so bad seeing him with someone else. But did he really like him?

“You my friend is also horrible at lying, just as you know,” Donghyuk chuckled and Jinhwan chuckled along. Donghyuk were the first one to turn serious as he looked at his best friend. “But seriously, I don’t want you to be with him if he is only playing around with you, he doesn’t seem to be a person you could trust at all,” Donghyuk said as he recalled all the times Hanbin, or rather said, B.I had been bullying him.

Jinhwan’s chuckle died really fast at Donghyuk’s words. He was right. He couldn’t be with a person who was bad for him, could he?

Jinhwan hadn’t been sleeping too much last night. Donghyuk’s disapproval had been the main issue, but then Hanbin and Chanwoo also slipped into his mind, even Hanbin himself, only him, had crossed his mind, but that was not a new thing. Jinhwan had been awake several nights thinking of Hanbin, but it hadn’t been a problem before these recent nights, with everything that have happened. Jinhwan smiled a bit to himself. At least he was going to be with Hanbin today, and then perhaps they could talk more. Jinhwan missed talking to Hanbin, even though it had only been two days without tutoring, it was still was two days without any talking with Hanbin, and Jinhwan didn’t like it. Upon entering class, Jinhwan noticed Hanbin sitting at his seat and staring out of the window. Jinhwan chuckled as he could see the reflection of Hanbin and how his nose was all squeezed by the hand which supported the resting head. Jinhwan sat down and looked out the window as well, curious about what Hanbin was looking at. Jinhwan’s heart sunk to the bottom of his stomach as he saw Chanwoo down in the schoolyard, right in the right position to be spotted by Hanbin. Jinhwan was quick to look away and swore that he would focus on class and not care about Hanbin, but both his heart and mind was already captured by Hanbin, even though it hurt, it still was with him.

As class ended Jinhwan got eye contact with Hanbin and smiled, but Hanbin seemed to be distant as he only plastered a faint smile on his face before walking out of the classroom. Could it perhaps be a mistake? Maybe Hanbin wasn’t bad? Maybe he just had a bad time? With that thought hanging, Jinhwan ran after Hanbin. “B.I!”

Hanbin heard his name being called by the wonderful voice that always echoed in his head when he tried to sleep. He turned a bit around as Jinhwan ran up beside him. Hanbin looked around quickly, to make sure there weren’t many people around. Then he nodded at Jinhwan. “B.I, I was wondering if you wanted to be at the library or at home today?” Jinhwan said, referring to the tutor lesson that was supposed to be tonight. Hanbin felt a shower of guilt run through his body, as he knew he had to cancel.

“Cause I thought maybe we could go to my house,”

Hanbin knew he was going to disappoint him.

“And it’ll be your first time at my house,”

How can he be this cruel?

“And perhaps my mother is at home and you co-“

He has to do it.

“Listen Jinhwan,” Hanbin cut him off. “I-I cant today either, I’m really sorry,” Hanbin said as he kept walking while Bobby came and slung an arm around him, muttering something rude about Jinhwan, leaving a sad and disappointed Jinhwan behind. Hanbin knew Jinhwan was sad. He knew he was disappointed. He knew that Jinhwan wanted to spend time with him as much as Hanbin wanted to spend time on Jinhwan as well, but his stupid father was good at being a distraction. Hanbin hated how his father set up plans for him without really telling him or making an agreement with him. All for the stupid companies to work great together. One thing was for sure, Jinhwan was not going to find out where they were going. Hanbin didn’t even want to be friend with Chanwoo. He was way too clingy for his liking, and he hadn’t that much charm, and he were too tall! Besides his cloths do fit him perfectly, whereas Hanbin preferred cloths that were a bit baggy. In a split second Hanbin realised: Hanbin’s ideal style wasn’t his style but someone else’s. Jinhwan. That’s why he didn’t come to like Chanwoo, because he simply wasn’t Jinhwan. Hanbin sighed as he tried to forget Jinhwan for now, and focused on the stupid friend of his, short time after, Yunhyeong came as well, making Hanbin forget Jinhwan, but still had him in the back of his mind.

Junhwe, who had just talked about his grade drops with a teacher, walked out from the classroom. As he scanned the corridor for his gang, he suddenly saw a sight that he wasn’t pleased with: a sad Jinhwan, as he heard Hanbin say that he couldn’t be with Jinhwan today. Junhwe straightened up as he made himself look presentable to approach Jinhwan. Junhwe has always been confident about himself, especially over all the girls he get, and even though Jinhwan doesn’t count as a girl, he still counted as someone who had caught Junhwe’s attention. However, as Junhwe got closer and closer, he felt his confidence decrease more and more, and unintentionally, Junhwe just came out horrible.

“Why so gloomy shorty?” Junhwe asked as he leaned against the lockers. Jinhwan heard a voice and noticed Junhwe who was now standing beside him, leaning against the locker. Jinhwan, who had almost shed tears looked first up so that the tear wouldn’t slip, and then shot a glare at Junhwe.

“That’s non of your business,” Jinhwan shot back with a stern look on his face, but as he shifted gaze towards Hanbin who was walking with Yunhyeong and Bobby, his look softened and turned into sorrow again.

“He is going to the amusement park,” Junhwe suddenly slipped out, making both him and Jinhwan surprised. Junhwe were told not to tell, but still slipped it out, for his own sake.

“Amusement park?” Jinhwan asked, this time fully listening to him.

“Yeah he is going to the amusement park, the one that recently opened, with that kid Chanwoo, who he seemed to be close with now recently,” Junhwe said as he followed Hanbin with his eyes.

Jinhwan was taken aback by what Junhwe had said. He was taking Chanwoo to the amusement park? And the new one which means the same as he took him with too? Jinhwan’s face fell. Does that mean our date at the amusement park was nothing special? It wasn’t special at all? It was only one of many he has with a lot of different people? So it must be true, Hanbin does play around.

Junhwe noticed how the smaller got serious and didn’t move. He was probably hurt by it. Junhwe knew he shouldn’t be happy about Jinhwan being sad, but still he couldn’t help but feel like he was a step closer to snatch him away from Hanbin. He didn’t feel like he had competition with Hanbin, because obviously he is ten times better looking than Hanbin, and besides, he had real feelings towards Jinhwan. As Junhwe noticed the gloomy atmosphere, he decided to light it up a bit.

“Funny to see you here” Junhwe said as he leaned closer to Jinhwan. Jinhwan, who was deep in his sorrowful thought looked up at Junhwe’s idiotic voice.

“Well I’m studying at this school as well?” Jinhwan shot back making Junhwe’s stomach turn bad, he didn’t intend to sound cocky, rather flirty, but it came out horrible wrong. While Junhwe though of how bad his appearance was, he slightly noticed that Jinhwan was about to leave. However, Junhwe was quick on his moves. He grabbed Jinhwan’s wrist, making Jinhwan look surprised at him. “I don’t want to talk to you” Jinhwan said as he tried to get out of Junhwe’s tight grip.

“Hey, I’m sorry if I seemed a bit… cocky last time, but I swear, I mean you no harm, rather I want to be friend with you,” he said as he had let his heart out, while Jinhwan looked at him confused. Honestly Jinhwan didn’t know what to do anymore as his mind only wandered to Hanbin, who clearly wasn’t his. June sighed as he saw the smaller, how lost he was, how sad, and how empty. “What I said earlier about B.I, I wasn’t lying. He isn’t a person to trust. In the minute he doesn’t need you, hell turn his back at you, and I don’t want that to happen to you, so I want you to leave him now, before you get hurt,” Junhwe said serous, with a soft voice. Jinhwan looked at him not knowing what to say. If what Junhwe had said, that Hanbin wasn’t a person to trust, then Jinhwan didn’t know what to do. Jinhwan loved spending time with Hanbin, but if it was only for Hanbin’s pleasure then Jinhwan felt used. Then again, Jinhwan is only his tutor, nothing more, nothing less, and that thought saddened him. Of course he can’t do anything or feel used when he never was an option.

Junhwe noticed how Jinhwan was overthinking, and decided to do something about it. “Jinhwan, let me walk you home after school.” Jinhwan looked at him sceptical. Jinhwan still couldn’t find himself trusting him, even thought it seems that he haven’t lied yet. “C’moooon, It’s not like I’m going to do anything,” Junhwe chuckled, making Jinhwan put on a faded smile. After thinking about it, Jinhwan eventually nodded in agreement, before heading off to next class. Jinhwan wasn’t really that interested, but little did he know that he had excited the other one to new levels.

School came to an end and Hanbin again walked immediately to Chanwoo, making Jinhwan’s chest tighten. He looked away quickly trying to distract himself, as he then remembered that he was walking home with Junhwe. Jinhwan walked outside to find Junhwe waiting for him. Unlike Hanbin, Junhwe wasn’t afraid to be seen by others, which actually made Jinhwan happy. As they kept on walking, Jinhwan didn’t noticed he was walking a few meters ahead of Junhwe – who was observing him, as he had lost is thoughts to Hanbin. The almost kiss scene replayed in his mind, sending butterflies to his stomach, but soon felt like rocks as the scene where he assumedly kissed Chanwoo were as well playing in his mind. Jinhwan felt urge to cry, yet at the same time scream on top of his lungs. Jinhwan felt sad, frustrated, angry, happy and warm. All at the same time which felt like it every emotion was just put into hi stomach and stirred up into a huge mess. He looked to the side, to find the beautiful Han River. Jinhwan sighed not knowing what to do anymore.

Suddenly a faint wind passed Jinhwan as Junhwe suddenly ran past him and stands near the railing. Jinhwan looked surprised around as if he had forgotten Junhwe was with him, and wondered where he came from.

“I HATE MATH! I HATE MR CHOI! I HATE SCHOOL!” Junhwe shouted on the top of his lungs out to the beautiful water of the Han River, making Jinhwan even more surprised and a bit embarrassed.

Jinhwan looked around before he waked closer to Junhwe. “Idiot what are you doing?” he asked, hoping that a few amount of people saw them.

Junhwe looked at Jinhwan and began to chuckle as the smaller was clearly embarrassed, but Junhwe didn’t care. He wanted to give Jinhwan another impression of himself. A better one. “You know to let out all of your frustration, it can help, and I have to admit that I, myself, go there to revile stress and relax, often” Junhwe said shyly as a blush crept upon his cheeks. Jinhwan was surprised that Junhwe had done such a thing, and couldn’t help but laugh. Junhwe felt embarrassed as the smaller began to laugh. “Y-yah! Don’t laugh!” he said, as the blush was even more visible now. Was it stupid? Did Jinhwan think he was a stupid kid? Or perhaps he liked it? Who knew? But one thing was for sure: only Kim Jinhwan could make him blush like that.

Though it was really amusing in general and Jinhwan couldn’t hold in his laughter. Junhwe, who was about to shout again, looked at Jinhwan in confusion. “What’s so funny?” he asked unsure if he was the laughing matter or what. Jinhwan laughed and shook his head.

He then walked up beside Junhwe and looked down at the water. “No it’s funny that you actually do it! But it sounds really refreshing, let me try,” Jinhwan said as he cleared his voice. “I’M TIRED OF OVERWORK! I’M TIRED OF NOT RECEIVING ANYTHING!” he shouted. It felt good reviling it. He had felt for a long time that he had been doing too much without receiving anything back. Parts of it were from Hanbin, but parts of it were also from school as well. Jinhwan had been tired for too long

Junhwe looked at him in a judging matter. “Jinhwan please, that’s not funny! Say something funny,” he encouraged him.

Jinhwan thought for a while before just letting it go. “KIM HANBIN YOUR NOSE IS TOO BIG!”

Junhwe was silent for a while before he bursted out laughing, before adding “KIM HANBIN YOU ALWAYS LOOKS SO ANGRY!” Jinhwan looked at him and began to laugh as well, even though he didn’t agree at all. They kept on shouting things about Hanbin, were they were agreeing on some and not agreeing on most of them, but what mattered was that they had fun and Jinhwan let out awful lot of stress. How reliving it was to shout out something, but what scared him a bit, was that his mind still wandered to Hanbin.

After laughing for a good 10 minutes, they settled things and clamed down. Junhwe looked at Jinhwan and smiled at the laughing boy. This is the first time he has seen him laugh and he loved it. Junhwe wanted to see that smile and hear that laugh more, the only question was how? Then suddenly an idea through his mind.

Recalling from what his teacher and him had been talking about when it was about his grade drop, Junhwe turned to Jinhwan, asking: “Jinhwan, you know I’ve been troubled in school, with both my attitude and grades?” Jinhwan looked at him confused, but didn’t want to interrupt him. It wasn’t like he was going to say anything that would shock him, cause after all Junhwe was easy to read, well at least he thought so, but Junhwe’s question shocked Jinhwan more than it should.

“Do you want to be my tutor?”
