Distant
I'd like that. The following week, I noticed that my dad didn’t go into work. He told me that he was going to be working from home for the next couple days, which is rare. I noticed that he had aged quite a bit these past couple months and I could tell that whatever danger we were in was taking a big toll on him emotionally and physically. I wondered when things would settle and that brought my thoughts to thinking that Jung would one day not be working for my dad and he wouldn’t be here. I shook my head trying not to think about it. I couldn’t bear to think about it.
I decided I wanted to go to Renaissance with Jung and I send him a text message.
‘Hey, let’s go to Renaissance?’
5 minutes passed and there was no response. This was odd. It usually took seconds for Jung to respond especially since he was always on-call. I decided to go downstairs to see what he was doing. I walked past my dad’s office, when I heard my dad talking to someone through the door. I stopped to listen and suddenly heard Jung’s voice.
“Yes, I understand, sir.”
A few seconds later, Jung walked out of my dad’s office. He looked startled when he saw me. I grabbed his wrist and went downstairs to go to his room. I wanted to know what my dad had to say to him, but Jung stopped me in front of the wine cellar. He grabbed my hand and removed it from his wrist.
“What did my dad want?” I looked at Jung, but he wasn’t looking at me.
“Nothing, Seol. He was just checking in. Wanted to make sure I was doing my job.” He still wasn’t looking at me and although he was standing right in front of me, it felt like he was in another world.
I had a bad feeling. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Don’t worry about it.”
“….Ok.” I sounded shaky and tried to recover. “I just texted you… Do you want
